Ulrich: Nice

"Keg" harbor..is that as in a "keg" of beer???Beer  ???

that would be right up Ken's alley!

I think the weathered barn red is a great choice, glad it recieves so many "seconds, thirds, and maybe a fourth"! a littel color in our life is not bad! The color "grimy black and sooty' is so common with steam railroads gets stale after awhile!. Around these here parts, the older 1800's RR stations, unless built of brick, the wooden ones were painted  a kinda "bright" solid  green. And the barns were red, of course.

Took the vest to the Post office and mailed out 3 4 bills today...3 regular monthlies and one medical bill payment on a plan for MOH's finding out about the PAGET's BONE DISEASE MOH is saddled with well over $700, and we don't have that lying around. Made arrangements for 3 payments, the first a little larger than the other two. That is over  half MOH's income for the month. No way we could pay that all at once. Since I wasn't budgeted for it, it will still be a hardship. We were expecting a bill, but about half that. And Near as we can tell, the insurancce company LISTS it as a service redered {though they don't pay on it yet}, BUT fail to take it off towards MOH's $2600 DEDUCTIBLE! We have to call them tomorrow and find out WHY and take up the cause to get them to include it off the deductible. We are ready to argue if naught else.

I did not get to Best Buy, forgot all about it, but my back is screaming form the injections, so REST is BEST.

well, we are not amused!

I will be resting most of the day!

Afternoon all, I hope all is well for everyone, and prayers/thoughts to those who need it.

Well, I work at 3 today, so I am making some more money today.  I also took a trip to the local walmart and noticed...Their "hobby" section is garbage...One damaged can of flat black spray, and several bottles of testors paint that looks like it already hardened in the bottle.  Anyway, I forgot to get the spray paint when I placed my walthers order-so beggers cannot be choosers huh?

I also decided I am officially switching to Wheeling and Lake Erie/fictional Austinville and Dynamite City railroad for my future modeling interest.  I am keeping all my Pennsy stuff and creating a railroad museum to display it on the layout.  I am also planning to have the option to do railfan excursions with my Pennsy steamers.  Not many people model the Wheeling, so it's a perfect niche for me to do.

Galaxy, I'm still loyal to my LHS and buy most of my train stuff there, but I've got no loyalty to Best Buy or other big chains.  Some time ago, I had a problem with something I'd bought there, so I took it to their service counter.  "Service" consisted of giving me the address of the manufacturer and telling me "It's not our problem."

So, buy that wireless router from Amazon.  I just bought my new camera that way.  The router is so cheap that you may need to spend more to get over the "free shipping" level.  May I recommend the Kalmbach book, "Historic Guide to American Railroads."

Mr. B.: Dunno, if i run into trouble, then Amazon.com is of no help in setting it up. Maybe Best Buy is= with the geek squad. I will be sure to ask about "help" and "returns" and "failed products". Unfortuantely, many manufacturers now Require that all failed merchandise or missing parts be proceesed through them. SO, in the spirit of the Best Buy's answer to you, that may, indeed, be the manufacturer's problem. That is so manufacturers can study the faults and correct them in hte manufacturing process, or remanufacture the {returned} products where you will later see them at a place like BIG LOTS, Ollies wholesale {junk house}, etc in plain boxes that do state "remanufactured", IF you look carefully for the fine print. Now, getting ahold of the manufacture MAY prove to be a moot case, if they have: gone out of business, have moved or changed phone numbers!.

I also don't buy extra things just to get "free shipping". I can spend too much doing that!

Jimmy BrauM: have you checked out the "rattle can"{paint seciton} or "craft paint" {crafts dept} depts at Wally world? or for that matter at Michaels, AC Moore, or JoAnn fabric and crafts? Many on here use those paints for various MRRing projects! If you go to the M, ACM, or JA, be sure to look online or in sunday papers for a {typically} 40% off one item coupons! just a thought! Usually just as good latex paints, or spray paints as the tiny expensive bottles for the LHS, too {unfortunately for the LHS}

Well, resting is boring. But I musn't work myself in to a frenzie!

Dinner will be a treat: NY strip steaks! broiled to perfection as I cannot get to the gas grill let allone clean it and see if it will last another year yet.

Two days in a row, Sunday was the Firebird debacle which is ongoing by the way then I ended up going to the Emergency Dept at the hospital at 1:30 this am by ambulance. Turns out I have something called Divictorlitus (sp). Ended up with 2 different kinds of antibiotics, 2 stool softners and a mega pain killer. When I went to the pharmacy, I plugged the meter but it took longer than usual, ended up getting a parking ticket $20 bucks. Sheesh.

Murphy lives here right now apparently.

Time to lay down...

Cheers

I have that myself. Causes me some discomfort now and then. Most people who have it have it on one side or the other, (left or right) of the colon, I'm one of the unfortunate few who have it on both sides. Lucky me. I had to modify my diet a little to make it easier to live, but as I told my doctor I'm not giving up rice and popcorn. It wants to hurt, I let it hurt. For me it's not debilitating,  just another ache to live with. It causes me much less pain than my gall stones do.

I checked the walmart-The only paint they had was "Watercolor kids stuff", the rattle can, and the solidified Testors paint.  They didn't even have any regular paint.  I would have gone to the local hobby shop, but it doesn't open until 1 on weekdays, So I wasn't able to go to that one. I'll check out a couple other craft stores in the area in the future.  Thanks for the tip!

 Good Evening Fellow Dinners

 Flo, Beer Pleases

Today was a fair day at the very best, this is till I got home! Then it became a suckie day! BoS is up to there dirty tricks again! SoapBox When I got the new loan, it clearly stated that I had till July 1st to get them the signed loan! Today I got a Fed X letter that states Pleases sign and return your documemts immediately or you may no longer be eligible to receive a permanent loan modification!

What the Cabosses is there problem! Hmm I got the loan papers around, the 3rd and this letter is dated June 7th? I tell you, again I am just about done!

My only hope is if I can keep the house a year I might get my local bank to write me a new Mortgage. Other wise I will have to deal with theses idiots till I am Dead! Dead

Good evening. It's a pleasant 73 here but at 75% the humidity is murder. No rain tonight. In fact no more rain until maybe Thursday.

The nurse arrived a little before noon today. She did a good job on the dressing. I think she'll be coming again on Thursday unless something comes up.

Other than that there hasn't been much going on here. We had a little rain, just enough to get my windshield wet. The internet service was up and down several times. Apparently they were working on the cable somewhere near here. I just laid back and watched a few movies. One of them was about an elderly ex-cat burglar who programmed his health care robot to help him pull off heists. That was sweet!

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

I feel for you guys, I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I take a med twice a day to help ease the discomfort of it's spacicity and twissting and cramping etc. It helps sometimes others I am sitting on the throne begging whoever is up there for easing the pain and discomfort!

Jeffrey, I am surprised they don't take out your gallbladder! Of course it took them 5 years and many many visits to teh ER before they did take out mine! I never had stones, just "sludge" and incessant bile production/regurgitation, which apparently they did not deem necessary to take it out as IT WASN'T STONES! It was to the point I showed up every other month in the ER with major compliants, could not keep anything down after 7 days it was time to seek help yet again...and wondered WHERE all that nasty tasting bile was coming from when I was dehydrated? The month before they decided to take it out the Dr said I had pancreatitis, which may be where the hypoglycemia came from, as the gallbladder can have a nasty side effect of aggrivating other nearby organs! The month they took it out, I went in at 6 am, told the DR. "I wnat you to find the problem adn solve it". After the usual blood work etc, he came in and asked if I still had my gallblader, I said yes, so he sent me down to the CT scan and when the results later showed up, they said it was "mishapen, distended and {something else}", so he called in a consult specialist surgeon who said based on my story "I can solve your 95% problems by taking it out". Thusly he did, and It did! but it still left me hypoglycemic!

Frank with the Stripes: I like that engine house too, is that one yours on your layout? or is it someone elses?

Jimmy Braum: Sorry to hear your Wally world is so insufficient. I have a "super center" near to me {wiht a full grocery store in it too}. So they have all kinds of interior and exterior paints, and a whole aisle of spray rattle cans too.

BARRY! GOOD to see you sir! expet fot eh "a" key, hows things going health wise? We have quite a few on the "healing list", you included! can i safely take yiou off, or do I keep you on for good measure???

KEN: MAKE COPIES OF EVERYTHING YOU GOT FORM THEM, and send in PRONTO. WHy? because you may get it into them by the 18th, but they may not get to processing until the 30th of June OR after!! ALso PAY THE FEES and send "return reciept requested"and "insure it,even"!!!!! THAT WAY you have PROOF of WHEN they got it! SO get your caboose in gear, and get it in! You don't want to lose out on a technicallity do you? I am SURE yours is not the only one they have to process!

V8Vega Dennis: many cities are that way, te cops around here are out in force. Due to the Natural gas fracking deal going on across the border in PA winding down, the county is SHORT major bucks on tax revenue they were getting! They are "Stunned" now and looking for blood to make up the shortfall. US who are against Fracking here in NY, have been pointing out "after a BOOM, comes a terrible BUST"....now the county is seeing it wihtout even having it here{we provide support services, waste water processing and of course have frackers shopping here}  and why the govenor has it on hold. WIlll it mater, probably not. Not a rant..just sayin'.

Well, I will go grocery shopping this morning and pick up a script. That and a few dishes are it for me today.

They figure as long as it's not causing major problems they can just leave it alone. So does the ins company.

Good morning. It's 65°F with 97% humidity. The high will be 92°F.

It was a quiet night here for a change. No rain, no thunder, no party down the road. I actually got six hours of sleep.

No plans for today. I'm pretty sure something will come along.

Good morning.  Hump Day makes me wish for some excuse to put camels on my layout.  I find camels and llamas to be great fun to look at.  At least I've got moose.

I'm starting to feel like an old car myself.  This is my third pill I have to take every morning, and this one's got to be taken again at night, too.  Supposedly, the side effects diminish once my system gets used to them.  We'll see.  There's a part of me that would rather have a short, happy life than a long, drawn-out death.  Does anyone have any experience with Metformin?  I've found that I've got to be my own advocate on these meds, and make sure I insist on changing them if the side effects seem as bad as the problem that's being treated.

I take it if my blood sugar is getting out of hand. It has a bad habit of reacting with other diabetes medications I take so I only use it when I need to get a really high level down fast.

Good Afternoon!

A wet and gray day, but no more thunderboomers - at least for the moment. Parts of Germany look like right after an air raid - never before has a thinderstorm done that much damage.

Started construction of the engine house today. If all goes well, I may be able to post a picture of a nearly done wall. Right now I am taking a break while waiting for the boards to dry after weathering. I took a piece of veneer and first gave it a wash with my black secret mixture, let it dry a bit and then a wash with a mixture of red and a touch of brown. It looks like a well seasoned barn red to me.

Well, CU later...

Have a good one!

Morning all.  It's supposed to rain today, and pretty good/powerful thunderstorms here.  I have to finda new railfanning spot now.  The city had to put up this UGLY,BLACK,Chainlink fence with metal poles on top where I would usually pull off to set up a shot.  It's because idiots keep walking onto the tracks from that spot, and the city is holding concerts there and does not want to run the risk of an illbehaved person walking onto the tracks. Thanks tressapassers, you ruined it for everyone!

Dennis - You must have really ticked off the powers to be. If it was me, I'd go to bed & stay there till Mr. Misfortune left town. Hope they can get your diverticulitis under control quickly. When I was working, one of the guys at the fire station had it, & it flared up on him from time to time. But then, he would have been the first to admit that he didn't always do what the Doctor told him, & didn't watch his diet like he was suppose to.

Jimmy - Glad you mentioned the fence. I was thinking about taking a ride to check that spot out. You had mentioned it before. By the way, did you catch the Interstate. It's been an elusive one for me. I either find out about it after it has passed, or it goes through in the middle of the night.

I was busy here at home yesterday. Started off doing a couple of loads of laundry, then I washed the car, then waxed it. Also got the interior cleaned, except for the windows. If it doesn't rain today, I might try to get that done as well. Not much else going on, so stay safe & enjoy the day...

Yeah, I got the interstate awhile back with the FECX locomotive leading.  It was absolutely filthy. There still is another spot in the area that is open-It is the parking strip next to the NS office building (Former PRR baggage office).  As long as you do not park about 3 or so spots next to the building, the employee in there doesn't care.  To get to it- You drive to Monongahela, and get on railroad street.  Driving down past the aquatorium, you then come to a stop sign.  Keep going straight for about 10 feet, square building on your left next to the tracks is the NS building.  You then see a strip of parking...that is the other spot to photograph trains coming from/going to Shire Oaks.  There is also "Tubby Hall" in New Eagle, a pull off spot in Courtney PA, and a couple other spots.  Plus I suggested to the aquatorium to consider putting in a railfan platform for photography down there when they asked for suggestions, so who knows.  Bottom line is, The park portion is at least temorarly destroyed, but the strip of parking is fine.  Then again, the fence stops at the crossings, so you could probably still shoot at the crossings-just stay off the road, and off the rails.

I am currently waiting to hear my scanner call out "N22 Northbound" it has the NKP unit leading, and one of the 3 I still need to have seen all 20 of them(16 in the same area-I caught the PRR up at the Galitizin tunnels with the 765, but that is another story)

Oh yeah, Here is an example of the kind of shot you can get from the parking strip-It's actually part of the original platform from the station that was torn down/burned down (I forget what happened to it).

These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway.  As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).

But then, he would have been the first to admit that he didn't always do what the Doctor told him, & didn't watch his diet like he was suppose to.

Diet????? What diet.... they didn't day anything about diet. Have an appointment with my GP on Tuesday so I'd best ask him about what diet I'm supposed to be on.

Still getting the run around on the car insurance issue. Now I can't get ahold of the adjuster. Indifferent

Cheers

Whistling

Hi Gang,  and you too Galaxy,

I've been checking in daily but have not been posting as you were mentioning.

I have returnewd to work (part time) . I started on June 01 (Sunday), then Wed. then Fri, Sat, Sun, and Monday.  All 4 1/2 hour shifts from 12:45 till 5:15 pm and although by Monday I was quite tired I think I have done OK.

I am very thankful to you all for keeping me in your thoughts.  It truly has been an uplift to my spirit.  I have remained quite positive through this all and have not considered myself sick but only having to overcome a problem and I think that has helped as well.

I am off to see the hearing specialist in an hour and then tomorrow I see all the Medical Team to see where I stand now. I still can't swallow although I can do all the exercises, my mouth and throat feel disgusting, lots of gooey phelm that it doesn't matter how much mouthwash I use I cannot get a clean feeling palet.  Can't chew gum as I have no bottom teeth with only a plate for the top.  Oh well, I am still on top of the grass and much better off than a lot of folks, so I might not be real happy but I am content.

Layout wise, I am doing quite a bit of wiring putting it into a more complete block system as it was getting a bit confusing with some areas being controlled by Peco insufrogs and some by blocks. This is going to be better, the insulfrogs will still be used for spurs.

Hope you all have a great week and get your phones and cable all sorted out.

Sorry about your misfortune Choo Choo (Dennis)  Hope you get that all sorted out quickly.

Must go time is getting short for that hearing appointment.  One of my hearing aids has never been right and they sent it back to the factory for realignment and now it is ready, but they want to do some more tests as well.

See you soon

Mornin' everyone!

Janie, Ill have a short stack of blueberry pancakes with butter and real NYS Maple Syrup...  A coupl sausage patties to go along with it would be great.  Oh My coffee...  I'll have my usual Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast again today, please.

Mr. Beasley, I have been taking Metformin for several years now.  At the moment I take a combination pill of 50mg Januvia and 1000mg Metforming twice a day (Janumet).  So far the combination is working great, hence the 5.8 A1c level.  I have not noticed any bad side effects from the medicine.  There are a couple which can be serious, so discus with your Dr. and your pharmacist what to do if you experience any of them side.  Chances are you will be fine on the drug.

A dark and gloomy day here in the Finger Lakes Region today.  No shadows out there at all and the lights are on in the house.  Currently 72°F outside with thunderboomers expected later this afternoon...

I have some banking and check writing to get done for the MLK committee today, and then a "Sign Up" event for the new Cub Scout Pack here in town.  The local paper did get an announcment in and we had flyers available at e big festival down at the lake last weekend, so we hope a few families will show up.  Would love to see the pack be successful (I have a lot of energy expended in helping them so far...).  I also need to continue cleaning the house...  Complete pig pen and I am embarased when people drop by for various reasons.

Catch you later!

well

Johnboy! good to hear form you, too sir! I was wondering if work tired you out extroadinarily, or if you could funtion through it. Good to hear it sounds liek doin OK. Half my teeth are fake and come out too, so they aren't the greatest either, both top and bottoms have plates, just partials, but they are better than nothing. At least I am able to swallow, though.

Barry: was hoping to hear more about you too! Well??

Jeffrey: I think the ins {medicaid only at the time} thought mine should stay in longer too. Amazing they will continue to pay for lots of things to dance around not paying for the one thing that can solve a medical problem! like the ins stopped paying for the iritable bowel med, cheap compared to sending me BACK to the gastroenterologist to seek an alternative med, which they would not cover eiither!

Mr. B: THIRD pill? Third pill ONLY? Gee, I take 26, some up to three times a day! Shesh, comnpared to you I am a walking pharmacy! most of them I have been taking so long that I can do it in my sleep{I have one to help put me to sleep too!}. I cannot do without one of them. when I don't take the asthma meds, for example, i can't breathe so well, if I forget the heart meds, my heart will start jumping all over the place and I will be lucky not to pass out. I will be in severe internal distress if I don't don't take the gastro-meds. I get very mentally unstable {more so than I already am} f I don't take my psychotropics. Oh, two of those scripts include machines: Cpap for sleep apnea so I don't die while I sleep adn Oxygen machine as I don't brethe so well even with the CPAP machine. its akin to being hooked up to a respirator. NAd NO, I don't take metformin! Not yet anyway!

Jimmy Braum: welcome to real life! the few always ruin things for the many!

Well, I went to the grocery store. $135 in damage. The specials add up, I guess. BUT, we wILl be having spagehtti squash and t-bone steaks {in sale and marked down} tonight! If they had not been on sale/markdown, NOT! Makes it aobut $250/lb!!! and MOH has been asking for "pasketti squash" for awhile, and doesn't really like squash like I do, so i'd beter take it whilest I can. Since we never eat out {well MOH gets to witth clients but gets reimbursed} So I like a special dinner once in a while. I just wish I didn't always have to cook it!!!

well, the phone rang so I better answer it!

Good Evening!

Chloe, make that a Beer for me, please! I think I deserve it!

Johnboy - good to see you! Continuing prayers for you! I hope that swallowing will come back soon!

As the trackwork seems to be fine now and both the 4-4-0 and the Forney have a smooth ride over it, I started out on the building of the engine house. Here comes the result of today´s activity:

 P1080001_zps52177705.jpg

The frame is made of 4 x 4mm stripwood, the windows are industrial windows from Addie Modellbau/Germany, made a touch smaller.

P1080003_zps4642383e.jpg

The frame was treated with my secret mixture to give it an aged look.

For the planking, I used .5mm Afara veneer. I gave it also a treatment with my secret mixture, followed by a red wash to give it a faded "barn-red" look.

... and finished ( almost )

 P1080006_zps78b2efdc.jpg

The wall will see some more subtle weathering with pigment powders to represent decay and some "growth", ie. moss etc.
