 Evening Dinners!

 Flo, Beer pleases.

Work Front Zzz That cover that!

Ulrich Front Boy I hope he got to keep the layout! It would be a real shame for him not to have anything to look forward to! One of the reasons we here at the dinner helped him to get back into the hobby a few years back!Person needs a reason to get out of bed other than laying on the couch and watching TV! Sigh

Amen! Been there and done that. If I hadn't had my computers and some locos and cars to work on I would have gone nuts at my fathers place.

Good evening. Didn't do much today. Nurse didn't show up until after noon so wound vac dressing got changed about 1:45. Changed out a coupler on an FP7. Did a little work on a disk drive. Watched a few movies.

That's it.

Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Ulrich!

First of all, if this is the first time in 30 years that you have had words then I would say the two of you have done pretty well. However, you are obviously going through a very tough time.

If I can ask a somewhat personal question, is this normal behaviour for Petra or is it unusual? If it is totally out of character then I would suggest a trip to the doctor for her. There are many things that can trigger abnormal behaviour. Things as simple as a UTI (Urinary Tract Infection) can cause all sorts of mental upset. I am not a doctor, but my wife is the Administrator for a Long Term Care residence (caring for seniors who need significant assistance) and UTIs are a regular source of upset. I am NOT suggesting that Petra is ready for Long Term Care - far from it, but her behaviour may be being influenced by things beyond her control. Its worth looking into. Unfortunately if there is a UTI it can also cause the person to deny there is a problem, so getting her to a doctor may take some convincing.

Sorry if this is too personal, but I also suffer from severe depression. Removing my model railroad stuff would bring on some pretty unpleasant results as I suspect it might for you.

I wish you and Petra all the best. Hang in there!

Dave

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

morning coffee in the diner...

Good Sunday Morning!

Today is Sunday,

FATHER'S DAY.

June 15th, 2014!

Healing Energies, thoughts,

and prayers for those

in need.

We were painting the church steeple gray.
When the wind blew our brushes away.
We said to the pastor.
"Oh what a disaster!"
But he simply replied, "Let us... spray!"

She smiled the day that I met her

and had eyes that said 'love' with four letters

and she carried the day

as I thought of the way

I'd done worse but I've never had better .

Good morning. It's 73° with 100% humidity. The high will be 90° with some clouds and a small chance of rain.

Today I'll be working on another loco. Haven't chosen it yet. I'll also watch some movies and play some 80's vintage computer games. I have nothing else planned but something will probably come up.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and the Sunday Breakfast buffet please. What?? Oh...(takes off sound deadening ear muffs) Thanks.

Showers and thunderstorms likely after 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 88.

Happy Fathers Day to those who are. Myself……Huh?, well it looks like there is now a baby in the house that doesn’t belong here. Yup, in order for the son to enjoy his Fathers day at the Cardinal game in St Louis, we are baby sitting a noisy lip buzzing screaming baby granddaughter who apparently zips around the house in one of those wheeled pastic bumper cars that make said baby feel like they are walking. Plastic wheels on wood floor….looking forward to THATTongue Tied. Now, as you can see by the weather report, there is no place for me to go to get away from the noiseSigh.  Going down to w*rk on the layout is not an option because my wife, who insists these things will not affect me, constantly calls on me for assistance not unlike when she wants to paint, but can't reach most placesConfused. The dog has retired to the bedroom, and is wearingherself out but jumping down, going down the hall, looking in the living room to investigate the new noise the baby makes, turns around, returns to bed only to get up a few minutes later to do the same thing for another LOUD noise. I guess I’ll look for a new cooler on the internet. She loaned them oursSigh. Usually that means I have to replace whatever she loans out as it comes back either broken or not at allBang Head. Great Fathers Day….potential cash outlay. HEY!! At least I don’t have to pay for diner for 12! Got THAT going for meYes Cool.

Welp, it's quiet now so.......nope. There's the noise again....and here comes the dog.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Howdy ...

Happy Fathers Day to all you Dads!

Todd ... Enjoy your granddaughter's visit with you!

Ulrich ... I suspect we might not hear much from you if at all for a while as you focus on other priorities. Please know we care for you. (and Petra, too!)

Today and tomorrow are busy days. We leave for southern CA Tuesday for a week. The wedding is Friday in Orange County. Before then is family stuff. After then Shelley and I will relax in San Diego. Actually, She will pick out stuff she likes to do, and I'll act like I'm interested in that stuff. Then, she'll tag along as we do stuff I pick out and act like she is interested. We do have fun even if bored with the other's stuff.

Don't worry if you don't hear from me.

Happy Model Railroading.

Worked on two locos this morning.

My Athearn SW1500 KCS 4331 needed a sideframe reattached as well as a ditch light put back in place.

And an Atlas FP7 that has an Atlas/Athearn hybrid drive. Athearn BB motor and shafts, Atlas trucks. Just a cleaning and inspection.

Computer-wise I copied all my SDFloppy II SD cards onto a DVD in 'Live File' format so I go back and change it later. It's labeled as 'SD Card Backup' and is stored away in one of the floppy disk storage boxes.

Good evening. It's 81°. There's a 20% chance of showers tonight.

To recap the days activities. I worked on two locos and made a backup DVD of my SDFloppy II SD cards. Other than that I watched some movies.

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

This just about wraps up another week. So is everyone ready to start the new one. This past week has had a couple of highs, & a couple of lows. Nothing major, just some minor disappointments. Thursday evening I attended a workshop for the ICloud on my IPhone. This one wasn't as good as the 1st workshop I attended. It wasn't a total bust, but I didn't get a lot of the information I was hoping for. I did pick up some things which might point me in the right direction, We will see.

Did get in 3 hours of railfanning on Saturday. Caught a total of 10 trains during that time. 3 intermodals, 5 mixed freights, 1 coal train, & 1 train of 70 empty gons. I've seen that string of empty gondolas a couple of times now, but haven't been able to find out anything about it yet. Like where does it originate, or where does it terminate. Had a couple of meets take place right in front of us. In fact, at one point we had trains on all 3 tracks. That's always kind of neat to watch.

This afternoon we went to the Civic Light Opera for a performance of "Legally Blond". Sorry to say it was not that good. A lot of talented performers, but they really didn't have much to work with. No music that you would want to whistle on the way home, & if you have seen the movie, not much of a story either. At least in my opinion. We did however, have an excellent dinner on the way home at a local Italian retaurant. So all was not lost.

Tomorrow we will start by stopping for breakfast, then grocery shopping and another full day of errands. I don't understand how just 2 people can have all these places to go every week. I think my wife spends the other 6 days dreaming up places to go on the 7th one.

Todd - Really enjoyed your story about the grand daughter & the dog.

Here's hoping you all have a great week, & stay safe...

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a refill for my decaf please....

Been a long and busy Fathers Day here in these parts.  Spent most of the day doing car host detail on the train.  I have an almost permanent assingment to the old Erie Caboose C-254 these days.  Had a good crowd for Fathers Day about 200 people came to the museums for the day.  We ended one run short of our normal day's work and so tied up a few minutes early.  On our last trip South, since we were deadheading, I locked all the wndows, oput everything back in place, and had already locked up the caboose before we coupled onto the old RS-1 in the yadr to keep everything tied down un til next Thursday.  I stayed on board just long enough to ste the hand brakes before the 80- Tonner was moved to the next track for the week.  i was off train, signed out, and on the road by 5PM.  Decided I would go directly out to my son's house in Watherloo.  Glad I did.  They seemed to be promoting that I should stop by as soon as I got back in town and since it was before 6PM when I got home, I went over without stopping at my house.  It seemed they had a Lobster dinner waiting for me to arrive.  Nice!!!  It was good to sit and unwind for a while too.  Later my son hooked onto my little trailer to bring it and a table they borrowed several months ago back over to my house.  He is picking up his new (to him) boat tomorrow.  I also found him a 2" ball for his drawbar and reciever in his wife's car.

I too am now starting to worry about Ulrich.....  Been a few days and no word from him. Sigh  Do hope all is well!

I best be heading out to bed soon.  I am exhausted....

Prayers for all in need, and a Happy Father's Day to all Fathers out there!

Regarding Ulrich:

Guys!:

I, too, hope he is well!

But:

I think in order to save any kind of peace, he really DOES have to take down the layout! HE Said so here when it first happened! No matter how we all encourage him to 'fight it out", those of us with spouses know, often we HAVE to do something we abhorre and detest just to make some semblance of peace in daily life! That part about a "woman scorned" is TRUE of most spouses! {and we all know how stubborn we can be, but who has to give in most often? WE do!}.

Remember WAAAAAYYYY back when he started it he said here on the forum "I will really have to negotiate with Petra to get the space in the spare room I need for the layout that she will approve of..." SO, it was a major issue BEFORE he even started to build!

SO, he also said somewhere on here in his last post something about  that he wouldn't be visiting too much here now, as it reminds him to painfully of what he is missing!

So while we are concerned he may be hospitallized, we can more  safely assume he's just got us on "ignore" for a while!

We can be supportive, but must remain "out of the loop" on this one, I think!

Good morning!  Lovely day here - low 60s right now, going to 80.  But, it's relatively dry air, so we've got warm comfortable days and cool nights.  To me, that's ideal summer weather.

I did get my passenger cars all back in service on the cloudy, drizzly Saturday, but I've got to work on a the interior lights on two of them.  One went out entirely, and the other is flickering.  For now, though, I'm happy just to run them all around.  Sunday I had a couple of bad boards on the deck to replace.  While at Home Depot, I picked up the lumber for Phase 3A of layout expansion.  Time marches on.

gonna be a "hot one" here today, comparatively...83*F.

Comparatively becasue I don't think we got over 70 last week at all!

Been to the CU, paid extra on the loan to reduce the length, and to the PO to mail out R.R.R. CERt. mail That costs $6 per envelope now!!! WOW!

and then dropped by the pharmacy just to bright the ladies's day! {and get a script or two}

Finally got my vest to go with the kilt outfit, in the proper size. and the proper belt. Now need a shirt, but ill do with a matching color tshirt, and sweat it out! That is coming up a week form Friday!

BAsed on his GENERAOUS OFFER in the thread entitled "Need to share rather large model railroad in Maryland"

We are going to try to visit Howard Zane's MRR while down south PA..he is about 1.5 hours away form there, and we think we can squeeze it in, if not this trip, maybe later in the summer if we got to the B&O museum IF he still so generous!

we will see!

Afternoon all, A pepperoni roll for lunch would be great.

Didn't do too much today, started with a train symbol list for my future layout, started listing out potential industries, and decided on locomotive rosters.  I am thinking about designing it so 4-6 people can comfortably run it (Two coal trains, a Steam excursion train,a local, an Austinville and Dynamite city train or two, and a possible through coke train), and one person to dispatch.  I also programmed the locomotive for the chip today, and it runs like a beauty-I had it going a scale 5mph steady.

(My Model Railroad, My Rules)

These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway.  As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).

Afternoon Folks!

Chloe, just a refill for my decaf right at the moment...

Had an early lunch today with an old high School friend of mine who is the treasurer of a Boy Scout Troop over the other side of the Council I am in.  His son (an Eagle Scout) is the Advancement Chair for the troop so it was the three of us meeting.  We put together plans for the troop to do the Railroading Merit Badge next Fall.  They will most likely camp over at the Museum where we can complete everything in a day.

It is a hot, muggy day here in the Finger Lakes.  Currently 81°F with a high in the mid 80's and some thunderboomers hanging around for the afternoon.  So far the sun has been out every now and again, but that will soon turn to dark clouds...

I have to get the car set up to carry my small sound system over to use at the church's Strawberry Festival on Wednesday.  Tomorrow I am atteneding an operating session in Rochester.  One of my members is just getting started in operations, so it should be a fun day as there will be a mix of well seasoned experts and those of us who have done operations but still have a lot to learn.  If I ever get caught up with the gardening around here I will get back to w*rk on my layout so I too can start doing operating sessions.

I need to go get some actual stuff done....  later!

We got a big rain storm here. Looking out the door I can barely see the neighbors trailer and it's only forty some feet away.

The nurse showed up at 1:10. She did a good job of replacing the wound vac dressing. I almost didn't make it there as the van wouldn't start. Ended up taking the cables loose from the positive clamp and cleaning all that up then put it back together. After that it started fine.

This morning I was working on a disk drive. This required that the ribbon cable be disconnected from it. I pulled on the crimp connector on the end of the cable and it came apart with the end result of the plug and cable parting company. I crimped them back together and reattached it to the drive and tested it. It worked, so I carefully detached it from the drive and super glued the connector and cable together like they should have been originally.

 Evening Folks

Flo, do you sale Beer by the case? I will take one!

Work Front Boy I am starting to hate it when I work St Charles! Our St Charles store used to be a Ice Scaking Rink / Roller Skating Rink. Problem is they only installed A/C in the roller rink, with the other half having a ice rink there was no need for A/C! There is now! Sigh It was only around 89 today, but it was every bit of that in the store!

Besides the heat, Paul was a total Caboose today!Whistling Guess I should getting use to that by now! When I started he told me no lower than 20% off the tag prices. OK, got that! Few months later he said "Onces you get a feel for the discounts I will approve you don't have to call every time!" OK, I understand that has well. I had a few deals aprroved on bedroom sets for 25% and 30% off.  So I stopped calling every time and was never called on the carpet so that must be OK! Yes

Today? Thumbs Down Got a deal where I went 25% off tag for around a $1,000.00. Boy Did I Get A Load Of Poop over it! He said "You Sales People Are Alwise Stabbing Me In The Back !" He all so said I was trying to play him? I just don't get it, plus he has away of making a person feel like a total Dunce

I used to have a manager who was just like Paul. He'd build up the sales agents confidence then blame everything that went wrong on them so he'd look good. After catching him in the act twice I fired him.

Good evening. Not a whole lot happened today.

As said earlier I had a disk drive cable come apart. It was easily repaired. Being reluctant to depend on the crimp connector to hold together by friction (it apparently hadn't before) I super-glued it together. It shouldn't fall apart now.

I took another look at the DVD backup I made of the SD cards yesterday. Just as I suspected. The entries had been saved as shortcuts. Not what I wanted. I deleted all that, set up new folders then dragged and dropped all the information I needed to their respective folders. Now it's all saved as files as I'd intended, not shortcuts. I had enough space left so I dragged over the directory with all my Car Talk podcasts. That took up a little over four gigs of space. No, I don't have an iPod. The podcasts play just as well on my PC's Mediaplayer.

Nothing much else other than watching a couple of movies. At the moment I'm watching called 'Knight and Day'. A woman unwittingly becomes ensnared in a deadly global adventure when she becomes the reluctant partner of a fugitive spy. I'm not a Tom Cruise fan but it's been pretty good so far.

Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

There was a young man from Quebec,
Who was buried in snow to his neck ;
When asked, " Are you friz ?"
He replied, " Yes, I is —
But this is not cold for Quebec."

But he failed at his sport

Yeah, me too.  Gonna be a hot one, the first of the season.  Fortunately, I've got hockey tonight so I get to enjoy a couple of hours of winter.  Laugh

I started the Great Pearl Drops Experiment on my Athearn Baldwin Switcher last night.  It's a growler, so I'm going to use this abrasive tooth polish on the gears.  (How abrasive?  Not sure, but I ordered the stuff from Amazon and it was shipped from England.  Maybe not made in the US anymore?)  The first step is to remove the trucks and clean the gear train thoroughly.  That job is half done.

I miss Ulrich.  He was a happier man here when he had a layout to work on.
