Another day, more games played on the //e and a movie watched along with an episode of 'The Bionic Woman' and a couple of episodes of 'The Six Million Dollar Man'. A friend came over and had some fun playing games on the //e as well. He really got locked in on 'Defender'. After you fly around shooting at aliens for a while daily life can seem sorta dull.

As I said this morning, I won't be here tomorrow morning as I have a doc appointment in Oakdale. Nothing major. He's just gonna cut away some thickened skin around the edge of the wound. It's slowing the healing so it has to go. One nice thing about it, I won't feel a thing while he's doing it. Yeah, neuropathic nerve damage can get that bad. In my case it's more or less permanent and effects my hands and arms as well. I should be back home by mid afternoon.

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all sometime tomorrow.

morning coffee...

GOOD FRIDAY MORNING!

Today is Friday,

June 20th, 2014!

Healing energies, thoughts

and prayers for

those in need

Rob, an odd fellow, designs
Poems of equal length lines
And he limericks with flair
As his forethought and care
Ensure a word count of 3 9s
(each line is 27 characters long, and the limerick is 27 words long)

No woodsman would cut a wood, would he
If woods would be woodless – nor should he.
Yet no woodcutter would
Cut a woody-wood wood
If no woodsmen cut woody woods, would he?

Well I'm up earlier than the planned 6am wake-up. The wound vac dressing started fouling up last night. About 2:15 the vac unit started sounding off various alarms. I'd reset it and it'd just sound off again five to ten minutes later. I even resorted to cutting the film away from the dressing and re-sheeting it. No joy there. So it must be a blockage where the suction head picks up from the filter. Only way to correct that is to remove everything and go all new. Can't do it as I don't have any of the supplies here. All that stuff is kept at my fathers place as that's where the nurse changes the dressing.

Now that I'm up it's not sounding off so much but if I lay back down it'll go crazy. Not my first rodeo with these things. Tired as I am I couldn't get back to sleep no matter how badly I want too. So might as well do my morning post.

Good morning. It's 73° with 96% humidity. Looks like it'll be somewhat cloudy with a high of 92°.

Just waiting for the alarm to go off. It's set for 6:00. That'll give me two hours to prepare for the trip to Oakdale. Glad I won't be driving. The doc I'll be seeing is a good one and he doesn't give me a prescription for anything unless I absolutely need it. So many others try to load their patients up with stuff they don't need. I've had a few of those and I always changed to another doc at the earliest opportunity. One of the things I look for is can I understand the doc. Accent is a big factor. The way my hearing works is that everything I hear is just jumbled up noise that I have to translate into something that sounds like normal speech.  Lip reading goes into that a bit too. Between what I can decode of the speech and what I can see I usually get it right. Talking to someone on the phone I get about seventy-five percent of it if it's clear. If the person has a heavy accent forget it. I'll get about four words in ten. This makes learning another language hard but not impossible. I've done it several times.

Well, time to get on with the day.

Morning all, just a bowl of Cheerios and Crystal lite.

Jeff, I hope the wound decides to stay unfouled, and you have a good trip

Work's been okay, but I have been getting a few "You're doing great" from the higher ups, so I guess someone is noticing my effort.  I may spend today doing a marathon watch of "Hell On Wheels"-the AMC series about the transcontinental railroad, and a few other created storylines, considering it is too foggy to go anywhere, and that is of course if I do not get a call about a Wheeling &Lake Erie train coming my way.

Have a good day everyone.

(My Model Railroad, My Rules)

These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway.  As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).

Just got back from the doc appointment in Oakdale a little while ago and put in a call to Home Health to send a nurse out tomorrow to put a wound vac dressing on my foot. The doc removed the old dressing, did what he needed to do then did an overall inspection of the foot. He likes what he sees and said to call in and schedule an appointment when I think it's needed.

We stopped at B.J.'s Diner in town on the way back home and had the lunch special. Pork roast, black-eye peas, cabbage, mashed potatoes and a rather large roll.

I'm at my father's place at the moment but will be returning home within the hour.

I was wrong about the bills...got yet another one for the "interpretation of the MRI" Doctor for MOH to find out about the bone disease!

I am not at liberty to say much, but I can say I have had contact with Ulrich. He will be in the Diner as soon as he is able. That's about all I can say.

Lets keep Ulrich, along with Barry, Flip, Johnboy and Jeffrey in our healing energies!

Hi all,,,Flo,,can I just get some Jello?

Yes, the mouth is still sore, and already the stitches feel looser than they did yesterday. I had Ibuprophen and anitbiotics today at work, but as I walked my aching head in the house after work I had 2 requests for SWMBO....Speghetto O's and percocet for dinner....feeling better now.

I'm going to be skipping the Timonium show this weekend. A) its the smaller summer show, B) I'll be working tomorrow anyways, and c) there is an estate auction Sunday not too far from here with HO and N scale trains. I'd rather take my chances at finding a bargain there.

Evenin' Folks!

Janie, just a decaf to sooth me tonight.

Karl, hope the pain subsides quickly....  Dental stuff is never fun!

I drove to Penn Yan this morning and picked up my sister's repaired lawn mower...  Dropped it off at her house this afternoon.  That took care of most of the day today....  Luckily my sister was in a hurry so I was able to get away from her after about an hour and a half....Whistling

Been trying to put together a meeting of the committee for the new Cub Pack here in town to put together a plan for the meeting on Wednesday.  So far it may be the District Executive and I, who hopefully has some materials as the committee chair will not be around all of next week and she has the copies of the materials!  Of course the District Executive has a District Committee Meetting at the same time the Pack is meeting...  Fun and games, tag I'm it!  Not even sure I will be able to get into the church where the Pack Meeting will be held....  On top of that, they may need a train crew at the museum for this coming Sunday...  They are supposed to running Track Cars, but 2 of the 3 track cars are out of service right now.  Won't know if I am on Crew Call until tomorrow night.  Tomorrow I will be working out at Boy Scout Camp all day.

Layout?  Work on the Layout?  Don't I wish!

Galaxy, do hope tha Ulrich is OK!  Thanks for bgettimng in touch with him.  Will be keeping all those listed and more in the evening prayers!

Oh, got a letter in the mail today from the Roto-Rooter place (Gastroenterology).  They were informing me it's my turn again for a Colonoscopy.  Ain't I lucky!

Have a good one!

Prayers For Herr Ulrich!Angel Hope he returns soon and still has a layout.

Work Front If You Want To call It That! Got a call from Paul this morning before I left for work. Told me I could go in later, seems only 25% the building had power. I was under the impression that te Electrican had found the part, and was on his way back with the needed part. I was wrong! Bang Head They had lost power yesterday at 6:00 PM and while the Electrian knew what part he needed had never came out to the store. Whistling Finally at 1:30 the store manager started calling other Electrican and by 2:00 PM the where there and by 2:30 PM we had power! Hmm

Speaking Of The Store Manager, heared him make a Caboose Comment about how "I sit on my butt all day!" I don't think Kameron knows I had and could get another Diabetic Foot Ulcer if I am on my feet to much. Think I will do a on line search and print out something for him to read. While the Ulcer is healed I was told in the first 6 months it would be easy for it to return!

 See you all later, Ken

Good evening. It's 81° with a small chance of showers and thunderstorms.

The visit to the doc in Oakdale went very well. Even so it was a miserable day for me for the most part. The wound vac was really cutting up bad last night and as a result I didn't get much sleep. When we set out this morning I was very tired and my eyes hurt badly if bright light hit them. I've never been one that was able to sleep in a moving vehicle bot this morning I was so exhausted I did. I got about an hours worth of sleep going to Oakdale so when we got there I at least didn't look like I going to fall over. Sure felt like it though. The doc removed the wound vac dressing, examined the wound, liked what he saw the trimmed up the edges a bit then applied a wet to dry dressing and wrapped it up. On the way back to Leesville I got a bit more sleep. Tells you how tired I was. We stopped at BJ's Diner in Leesville for lunch then headed home. I called Home Health from my fathers place and arranged for a nurse to come out tomorrow and apply a new wound vac dressing. Then I went home and slept a few more hours. Now I feel better and my eyes don't hurt anymore despite being in a brightly lit room.

Tomorrow is laundry day so that'll serve two purposes. Getting the foot seen to and getting laundry done. All I've done today besides what's above is watch part of a James Bond movie. 'Goldfinger'.

Time for me to call it a night. Despite the sleep earlier I'm still quite tired. See y'all tomorrow.

Wow, nobody in for hours...wonder if the diner is being boycotted against?

Went to the Phone class last night. The first part was review, but the second part was new nitty-gritty. Still not sure  on that newer stuff.

DRug {actually I think it's "dragged" for correctness} MOH with me, as MOH really wnated the smart phones! Was tired, but I declared "you ARE going, you wanted the smart phones, NOW you will attend class to learn how to use them!"

Guess what I picked for the wallpaper background to the home screen???  A RR Crossing sign! Natch! It is a plain white sign, so no "markings on it" but it is clearly a RR crossbuck!!

Well, today I will do some cooking. I think MOH is going over to the FILs to help him.

Cooking:

Parmasean encrusted chicken filets topped with melted Ceddar cheese

Boeufs {beefs {or more correctly "Beeves" {look it up!}}}

Crock pot lasagna

sausage and peppers/onions

Ranch style mac. salad

ANother thing or two

I'll see what else I can rustle up! maybe ill go get more grape tomatoes for tomato/basil/mozzarella salad.

Then I won't have to cook for a few days! Just heat n eat.

well, then I will see what else I can get into..

OH QUESTION: Do any of you/have any of you used the "electric rodent repellant" devices? They are supposed to be quiet adnd emitt a high frequency noise that humans and non-rodent pets can't hear. Well, they DO make an easily audible Buzzing noise, quie, but audible. MOH can hear it too. Now, My QUESTION is: can any of you HEAR The high pitched noise too? I ma super sensitive to high pitched noises, and I do declare, I can hear the "resonance after effect  of the noise". so to speak. You know how you hear the high pitched squeal of a microphone, and the "sound of it diminishing" as it goes away after the squeal? It isn't hte exact high pitrhced squeal itself, it is theAFTER EFECT taht can be just as defening. THAT is what I hear. Or like being in an airplane, and the highpitch "after effect" of the noise of the jet engines. I feel like "airplane head" when I am around the emitters. They SEEM to be working at keeping the resident rodents at bay, So I think it is great, but I am wondering if I can suffer damage due to the noise i "hear" from them.

Just wondering..We have three of them in the house...I was thinking of getting another 3 pack. for the other rooms.{we have 6 rooms total}.

well, I think a nap is in order as I have been up since 2:15.

later guys

Still not feeling good today. I'm waiting on the Home Health nurse to call then I'll head over to my fathers place with a couple of bags of laundry. At least I'll get something accomplished today. I don't feel like doing anything else.

Good Morning All! Not much to report from the land of Buckeyes other then we had our first open house yesterday and once we stomped the start up gremlins things smoothed out. I had 2 derailments in the first 15 minutes the oddest was a truck failure on a Roundhouse FMC 50' boxcar.-the screw dropped from the truck with the expected results.. After that 8 hours and 45 minutes of derailment free operation.
The mystery question is how did I overlooked a lose truck screw when I inspected the cars I was going to use last Sunday?

One thing I gotta share by 4 o'clock I was pretty wore down and I found coffee is indeed the nectar of the Gods.A follow club member bought a cup of coffee for us and that perked me up and I was good to go until closing.

Have a good'un! :tada:

Whistling

Gd'Morning Gang,

Chloe, when you get a moment, I'll have a cinnamon raisen Bagel and a HC.  (wishful thinking)

I had hospital appointments yesterday that didn't go as good as I had wanted.  I did get a new stomach feeding tube put in as the old one was almost seven months old and getting a little grundgy, so that was good.  But then I was to have and esophigelscope (spelling) where they go down your throat with a light and scope to check for any other problems I might have.. WELL the Dr. found them real quick... Spent about 8 minutes trying to get the adult scope down , to no avail. Then another five minutes trying to get an infant scope down, to no avail, then stated " I guess we have found the real reason that you can't swallow,  there is no opening into your throat, the radiation must have sealed it right off.  Now he is as old a Gentleman as I am and he said in his career he has only seen one other one like this throat of mine.  So now I guess surgery is the order of the day. There was going to be a little surgery anyway to sew the two valves (flaps) at the back of your throat together as mine arn't playing well together, so the Plastic Surgeon can do both those jobs while he is in there.

Railroad scene update, I have finally committed to finishing the mountain and river section on the north side of the layout.  I had originally wanted that done for Christmas two years ago, but life got in the way.  New Grandson and then this darn Cancer.  But I am on a bit of a roll now.. Must start taking some pictures too,  how often have I said that???

Sure would like to hear from some of the ol' boys,  IS Jerry, Cajun Chef Ryan, Tom White, Terry in Wisconsin, Texas Chuck and others and of course Ulrich.  Also, it's been a while since Rob off the georgia ranch has had much to say.

Hope everyone has a great week-end with good weather.

Wishing you all prayers of safty and health and healing for those with that need.

Will try to get back sooner but I know that is why our count is down here as well, it is all the summer chores that must get done in a short period of time and in between rain storms.

Johnboy out..................................and back to work for 6 hours today.

Here it is the first day of summer and what's it doing outside.... raining, cloudy and of course windy. Yesterday was beautiful. Glad I took advantage of it and went on a photography jaunt. Even say a beautiful buck deer but didn't get a picture as I don't have a mega lens (yet).

Fire Bird front... It's at the body shop but just as I suspectecd, the $2000 dollar repair bill turned into a $4000 repair bill when they did the tear down and could see the real damage. Frame is bent, side rear 1/4 panel has a slight wrinkle and the exhaust system is bent and can't be straightened out. The insurance company grudgingly approved the extra $2000 only because it's a vintage car.

A friend of mine tells me there is a company that specializes in vintage car insurance. You get the vehicle apprased for actual value, and insure with them. Limited of 5000 K a year but that is no big deal as I drive it only from May to the end of September. I'm going to look into it because regular insurance just want to write older vehicles off at 1/2 the book value.

Been building some structures for the Railroad the last week when it was raining. Not my favorite job but what can you do. I have one of those computer programs that lets you design buildings and print them on photo paper. Then you glue the photo on cardstock and cut them out and build them. I have a number of background buildings designed but my printer won't print right now. Print heads are clogged. Have to call Epson to find the solution if there is one otherwise it's go buy another printer. Junk Junk Junk.

Just about finished the meds for the Diverticulitus. Maybe then I won't be spending all my time in the bathroom. Feeling not too bad other than that. If it isn't one thing it's another.

Oh ya, gas prices just jumpted 20 cents to $1.45 per l. Multiply that by 4 to get a US gallon. Sure glad I bought the gas mizer car.

Cheers

Dennis

JOHNBOY! Good to see you sir!

SOrry to hear of your failed esophagial testing. I had some such testing done, but in my case they could fix the problem. It was NOTHING like yours! I had to have surgery on my stomach and esophagus to keep from involuntarily vomiting all the time. They took part of my stomach and sewed it up around the base of the esophagus and anchored it there to make it so the food doesn't reflux easily.

In order to be approved for the surgery, I had to pass a test by failing it miserably. They stuck a metering device up my nose down my thoat and into the stomach {you do feel it}. Then, while laying down, they have you eat/drink water and it registers the function of the LES muscle between the stomach/esophgus. The nurse, well, I told her to get a bucket ready when they wanted me to drink water while lying down, i said "it WILL come back up".   SHe INSISTED "no it won't". SO I did not feel bad when I projectiled all over her!!! Three times, no less! Tehy got the reading instead of functioning at 100% like is supposed to, functioned only at  a miserable 3%, so I failed the test and passed to get the corrective surgery!

well,

3 kinds of boeufs in the oven, when done chix will go in too. Made macaroni salad {I limit my eating of it but MOH doesn't have to and LOVES it} Eggs boiling for egg salada.

weill check in later...

V8Vega ranted, with just cause:

I'm done buying printers until they get them a whole lot more reliable than they are now, and the ink not so redicously expensive.

We bought a Canon printer a couple of years ago, as the ink for my old HP 722C was getting hard to find, and sometimes even Staples didn't have it.  I must say, I like the Canon better, and it does a much better job on my home-made decals.

The ink for the Canon, though, is a budget buster.  You can see why the printers are so cheap - they make their money on the stupid ink.  It's up to about $75 for a complete set of cartridges.  I was buying stuff on Amazon, so I got a set of cartridges from some off-brand for about $6.  Well worth it, but only because it taught me not to believe user feedback.  I'd imagine the same guy who was selling the ink posted feedback about how good it was.  Complete junk.

The Pearl Drops experiment is under way.  I've got an old Athearn Baldwin S-12 switcher I bought at a train show for $15.  It runs very well, but like many Athearns of that vintage, it's noisy.  So, I took it apart, cleaned out the gears and put in Pearl Drops abrasive tooth polish.  Then I gave it about a 2-hour run, in both directions, to polish the gears.  Right now, it's on my workbench with the moving parts soaking in alcohol, prior to reassemby and application of some fresh Labelle grease.  If it's quiet enough, it gets a sound system.  If not, its own noise will be its sound system.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Went down to my fathers place to meet the nurse and get my foot tended to. Took two bags of laundry with me and got that going before she arrived. She was there and gone before the wash was done. Another hour and it was all dried. Spent some time talking with my step mother then headed home. So far that's been my day.

Hey Johnboy, sorry to learn about your problem . I have no problem swallowing, its keeping things down as the check valve is GONE . Can't sleep laying flat, have to be in a recliening position else bile comes up.

Hi Guys

Spent the morning outside before noticing that I was starting to get a little pink. The sun today is very strong, its one of those days where there is a beautiful breeze and dont notice that you might be geting burned before its too late. I am glad I came in when I did or I would be a lobster right now, and in pain. Im just watching the ball agme right now and flipping through a bike magazine. I might try to get a ride in early tomorrow before having to cut a few peoples grass. I have a job interview on Tuesday afternoon so wish me luck.

Johnboy:  Glad your surgery went well.  I hope that smug nurse learned her lesson to listen to the patient and not assume she knows better.  So many medical people just don't listen to their patients and assume they know better.  Sure, they have the training, but the patient knows his/her own body best.  How on earth do you drink something lying down?  I can't drink anything unless I'm vertical.

I can relate to your problem.  Our grandson, now 9 y.o., was born with some birth defects:  cleft palate, underdeveloped lower jaw, and the muscle that keeps food from coming up not functioning.  He spent the first 7 months in hospital and had a number of surgeries to correct his problems.  He had to be fed mush through a tube in the stomach through the abdomen until he was almost 2 y.o.  He refers to the scar as his "second belly button."  He is  normal now and not a fussy eater and loves sweet stuff.

V8Vegas:  I used to own HP printers and I used refilled ink cartridges on them.  Not a good move.  They weren't as good as the originals and jammed up the print heads.  I may be wrong but I have heard that some Epson printers use an external nozzle and I'm pretty sure the ones I had were like this.  HP uses a piezoelectric crystal to aqueeze the ink out instead of a heating element to make it easier to squirt.  Some believe this gives better results.

The printer I have now, and have had for quite a few years, is a Canon Pixma iP4300.  It uses 5 separate cartridges, cyan, magenta, yellow and black with a double size black cartridge for text printing.  It always annoyed me that the Epson's all-in-one cartridges had to be discarded when one ink ran out even if there was plenty of the other colours.  Yes, the cartridges are fairly expensive.  I pay about $20 at Staples.  I don't know the exact price of a package of 4 cartridges, but I believe it's in the $60 range.  I have used nothing but Canon cartridges in this printer and never had an ink problem for all the years I've owned it, so I consider that worth the little extra cost.  I'm very happy with my Canon.  BTW, the reason i bought this model is that it will print directly onto blank CDs and DVDs.

I do good to find new 21/22 print cartridge two packs for my old HP 3930 for under $50. There're remanufactured 21/22 two packs for under $30 but I don't like using those as they're inconsistant. I have a newer HP F4100 series but that's no help as it also uses the 21/22 cartridges. I don't use it for printing anyway. I bought it solely for the flatbed scanner.

FLIP: read my story above! Get referred to and GO see your gastroenterologist PRONTO! and insist you may be a strong candidate for a Nissan Fudoplycation! {Nissan rhymes like "missin", Fun-doh-ply-cation{that is the corrective surgery they did on my stomach/esophagus!}

I, too, could not sleep lying down, and can't sleep sitting up,so had to compromise and sleep on a bank of about 6 pillows! If I slept on my Left side, I MIGHT have kept the contents of my stomach in place, If I rolled over on my right side, everything was GUARANTEED TO COME UP..I kept a bucket bedside for such.

{{I knew MOH loved me when I rolloed over onto my right side {facing MOH} the first night together and I automatically vomited. MOH got up, said not a word, changed clothes,changed the bed clothes and put them in the laundry, remade the bed and crawled back in beside me, I knew it was LOVE.....!!!}}

I also involuntarily vomited even while upright, I either carried a basin with me, as well as had a garbage bucket in every room to vomit into involuntarily. frequently this would happen.

FLIP: DO NOT WAIT! WHy? a LOT oF DAMAGE has been done to my lungs by stomach acids and bile refluxing up my esophagus and draining into my lungs! If you experience the same, you could have troubles breathing too later on, if not already!

SO please look into it!

Seamonster: I think you meant that top comment about my ordeal, not Johnboy's! Mine was nothing compared to what Johnboy has been thourgh with his cancer!

I was relating the tale of the pre-surgery testing and drinking lying down...you CAN do it, and for a "normal person" it should NOT come back up! My system was NOT normal and after years of involuntarily vomitingand/or having eveything come up while lying down, I knew what was going to happen!

I am not sure if she was actually "sure it wouldn't come up" or if she was trying to Psych me into NOT having it come up!!!

Either way, it did not matter...She got it ALL OVER her more than once!!!

I was vindicated!

ANd NO, they NEVER  listen to the patient! Took em 5 years adnd several ER visits to decide my gallbladder should Come out! {seperate story}

Your grandson's ordeal may be closer to Johnboy's!
SOrry to hear his young life started out so crappy!

I didn't have those probelms, but as a full term and actually overdue baby, I came out like a premie, and spent more time in the hospital and incubator for awhile after my mother left it, when I was born- to "come to mature more". It wasn't until I was nearly 6 months old that I made any type of sound! and even then, I wasn't much of a crier, they say. The Q abotu me always was : is he still alive?

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a tall glass of iced tea for me while I peruse the menu to see what appeals to me tonight....

Phew, man am I tired tonight.  Spent the day out at Boy Scout Camp for our Raccoon work weekend (the Raccoon is the "Mascot" for the camp).  Of the 5 units of Boy Scouts and ventures that I am connected with (Commissioner or Chartered Partner Rep.) 4 of them were there camping for the weekend and doing major service projects today.  My work for the day was to get started trimming the grass and weeds around tents prior to camp opening.  I got two large tent sites finished as well as Staff area and a few tents in a third very large campsite.  Got all that done on the 7 batteries I now have for the equipment.  I do like the B&D Battery powered string trimmer as it is very light and easy to use.  Under most circumstamnces a fully charged battery will give about 15 minutes of run time.  In some of the sites i can get closer to 20 minutes of run time as the weeds and grass is fairly light next to the tents.  I also took out my little chain saw which uses the sme batteries and did use it in several places in the Staff area.  Usually I don't get ointo Staff as it is Staff Training week before I start the project so there are (were) several trees starting to gorw up where they shouldn't be near the tents.

One "fun" little incident today was at lunch.  I sat with the Handiocapped Troop I am Commissioner for at lunch and the Crew I am commissioner for was at the table right behind me.  I didn't notice they were there until about half way through lunch when the leader came over to chat with me.  I got up and went over to say hi to the whole Crew, and one of the "kids" (19 or 20 years old) in the Crew got very excited when I spoke....  He looked at me and said, "Oh my God!  Mr. Howard!"  Then turned to the others and said, "He was my Music Teacher!!!"  Must have been in first or second grade back then....  I've been retired for 14 years now.  Did my heart good to have him get all grins about it...

Printers....  I have owned many over the years.  First color printer which I bought for the business was a HP 1220c.  It was the only one I bought an extended warrenty for.  Turned out I made a good choice as after about 3 years it wore out.  Took it to the store where I got it.  They checked their records and brought out a brand new one and gave it to me.  No charge.  That one was still doing service when I closed the business a few years ago.  I gave it to one of the Black Churches here in town and AFAIK they are still using it.  When I started producing over a couple thousand CDs a year I bought a Samsung Color Laser printer.  It was a good deal as I got it on sale and the toner was considerably less expensive to use than the HP ink.  About the time I closed the business I was at the point where I was going to have to do major replacement of some parts on it, and since I no longer was printing thousands of documents every month, I sent it to the recycler.  I decided for my personal printing to go with a Canon iP series printer.  The old HP was a wide carriage printer and could print 13" x 19" documents but had a 1/4 inch margin border which it could not print.  After about a year I found myself needing to do some larger prints, so on sale I picked up an Epson Workforce 1100 color photographic printer.  The original Canon printer wore out after a couple years so I now use as my workhorse a Canon iP4820.  I have never really had much problem with any of the printers but I think it is because of how I used them.  So, some observations on Inkjet Printers.

1.  Use them!  Many problems are from them sitting for months on end never being used...

2. Learn how to clean the heads...  The process may have to be repeated several times to get old ink to work...  Even then I end up replacing the cartridge as often as not.

3.  Remanufactured or 3rd. party cartridges.  There are some good ones out there, but many are of low quality and the print is not as good as OEM supplies and the amount of ink is often half or less than the orginal.  The one exception I have found is a place called Ink Technologies.  Their products have given me excellent service at a fraction of the cost of OEM.  Buying in bulk from them a set, of cartriges (6 - Two of the large Black and the CYMK ones) for the Canon will run about $21 compared to $78 from Staples...  I find no difference in the quality of print, but the cartridges hold about 20% less ink than the OEM.  (Disclaimer, I have nothing to do with the company, I am just a satisfied customer...)  They don't make a working cartridge for the Epson I have so those I buy at Staples.

Catch you all later!

Not much going on here today. As said previous I got the foot taken of and got some laundry done. I've used most of the time since then watching TV. Finished watching 'Goldfinger' from last night then started in on watching some original series Star Trek episodes. I have all three seasons. Currently watching an episode called 'Mudd's Women' starring Roger C. Carmel (9/27/1932 - 11/11/1986). He was in another original series Star Trek episode called 'I, Mudd'. He was also in one episode of 'Star Trek: The Animated Series' of which I also have the complete set. Other than that I took some time to change out a disk drive on the //e. Now that I know the modified A9M0107 Platinum drives will operate with new problem I switched one of the out with a Mitac Disk II clone that I modified with a toggle switch to turn the write protect function on and off as needed.

My father just brought me five fried catfish filets so there's no question of what's for dinner.

That's all for now. Be back later.
