Jimmy - Have you tried ordering from Walthers through your LHS?  I do that all the time.  I send him an e-mail, he orders through them, he gives me either his store discount (10-15%) or the Walthers sale price (usually 10%) whichever is cheaper.  I pay sales tax, but no shipping.  The sales tax is usually cheaper than the shipping.  He does a big Walthers order every week, so it's no problem to add even something very small.

I did not even think about that.  Thanks for the advice.  Same fo the door, I have actually looked at some online at Lowes-20-30 bucks, plus a sheet of the foam for the scencery, I would be off to a decent start for having a portable layout for my club's trainshow.  Granted I will have to measure the door to cut it short enough to fit into my car with the seats down (Cobalt, and yes I have hauled doors in it before.

These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway.  As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).

Extra strong coffee in a SOGGY & SOUTHERN mug, please.

***Dennis, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY"

Anyone have any experience with either Ventrac or Steiner tractors/mowers? Looking at one of these for handling the hillsides around the ol' farm here. Would be better than using weedkillers.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Gidday All, have got back home for the weekend, good to see her-in –doors, and have just quickly peered thru the goings on in the Diner. To Heartland Garryand Galaxy a big well done from me for keeping us informed, and the prayer candles burning.
Well the nights are quickly drawing in here, when I started working away I was getting home still in daylight but now it’s getting dark about half way home, (the clocks go back an hour tonight), still warm during the day though , high 70s, and we could do with some rain.
Keeping the “in the backyard theme”, while this is about two and a half hours drive away which would mean I’ve got a huge backyard, here’s a clip showing a place and a locomotive that JR will recognise..........
This second video shows some day to day workings......

Thoughts and Best Wishes to All that need them.
Cheers, the Bear.

Galaxy .... Did you get my reply to the PM?

Ulrich .... I tried to send two PM's. Did you receive?

Flip .... Good o see you. Hope you are continuing to improve with your health. Where is Curt?

Again, contact me if you want to know how to reach Jeff at the rehab hospital.

News from JohnBoy .... " I am feeling better overall and my spirits are fairly high. I am still discouraged about not being able to swallow and get back to regular eating, but my wife reminds me that the Doctors didn't want to see me until six weeks after my final treatment as I wouldn't be healed enough and that appointment is next thursday, so possibliy things will start to improve more in that area shortly.  I am currently seeing a Speach Therapist who is helping me with some swallowing exercises,  which I can do, "

Everybody.... have a nice evening

Garry- Thanks for the up date on JohnBoy.

I have Jeffs home address and his 'E' address. Anyone needs either, just ask.

Me, I'm slowly improving. What ever I do, be it walk, eat ,etc., ten minutes later, I need to sit down. No strength and hard to breathe. Just going to take time.  Hey, not bad for an old fa-geezer of 77 years.

I enjoy seeing your posts with the others from the Diner in WPF.

Prayers for all.

Good Evening or Good Morning for those east of CDT,

Garry, thanks for the up-dates on Jeff and Johnboy. Glad to hear both are on the mend. I do wonder how Jeff will handle his trailer as I think it is very tight in there.

It was officially announced today that we have had the coldest winter since 1898. It is supposed to get up to about 50F by Sunday. I try to post in farenheit as I know most of you are more familiar with that measurement. I was raised with all the English measurements as we didn't go metric here until 1978 or so. I must admit I still use feet and inches plus pounds for weight but now I think in metric for temperature and distance. I have to calculate gallon conversion though as I was brought up using Imperial gallons which are 20% larger than U.S. gallons. I just can't get used to thinking in U.S. gallons. Enough rambling on a topic I'm sure doesn't interest you at all but it is 11:30 and past my bed time.

I did run my B-Man light mountain today. I like that loco perhaps because it was the second one I bought in 2006 after I got back into model railroading.

I did some dusting today and our dog then led me to the cupboard where we keep the vacuum cleaner-- 'that's next Dad' but he was wrong. He hates the vacuum and we can't even use that word or he runs to the cupboard. Same reaction now to 'Hoover' so we just call it the sucking machine. Spelling vacuum doesn't work either now as he knows that means vaccuum.  He knows well over 200 words. Never had a dog like him.  In fact sometimes it isn't like having a dog at all. If you ask him if he wants to play he'll run into the living room where we have some of his toys. If you ask him 'What do you want to play with?', he runs into the kitchen and jumps up and down in front of the counter where we keep his favourite toy, 'bouncy ball'.  He knows the names of over 100 toys and if you don't name it correctly he won't play with it. We keep a list as we forget.

Jimmy, be careful about cutting a hollow core door as there isn't much solid wood around the edges, only a couple of inches.  I used one for my N scale layout and find it worked just fine. I put a 1" layer of foam on top.

Well, time to say, Good Night, so Good Night.

Hi everybody,

I ma plannign on calling Jeffrey later today.

Those who wish to have wishes passed on verbally ot Jeffrey, PM Me!

A few already have...so I will do so!

Get your PM in early!

I know he will appreciate "all the fuss" over his getting better, as much as he appreciated what all we did when I started in the "help Jeffrey fund"!

There is an old quote, that I think of often when I think of Jeffrey's current situation:

"I cried because I had no shoes, untill I met a man who had no feet"

{the basic Idea here  is to feel blessed for what you DO have, as others may not have even that}

May Jeffrey {and Johnboy} be Rident - Laughing or cheerful, today.

Good Morning!

A dull day - quite normal for us in this time of the year. I have a mile long HD list to work down this morning, starting out with some banking issues, the usual weekend grocery run, a little this and that in our household. When that is finished, I will get back to my translation job, but may go to our local building center to grab some materials for my layout. I have decided against using the rail-and-bracket system in favor of heavy duty steel supports. Those segments appear to be to heavy. No further plans for the rest of the day.

Those who wish to have wishes passed on verbally ot Jeffrey, PM Me!

Galaxy - please tell Jeff that he is in our thoughts (Petra even sends him a little kiss - now should that make me jealous?).

I have pretty much covered my immediate backyard, so there is very little left to tell you about. There is a shortline connecting my hometown with the mainline between Bremen and Bremerhaven, but currently there is no train running on it. Plans to dismantle it, however, were given up, so the line is still maintained in working condition. Two years ago, the line opened up temporarily, while a gas pipleline was built in our area, but that´s history again. Of course, these trains ran at nighttime, so I only once had a chance to see one.

CU later & make it a great day!

Sir Madog

, so there is very little left to tell you about. There is a shortline connecting my hometown with the mainline between Bremen and Bremerhaven, but currently there is no train running on it. Two years ago, the line opened up temporarily, while a gas pipleline was built in our area, but that´s history again. Of course, these trains ran at nighttime, so I only once had a chance to see one.

I have already covered what is in my immediate backyard. The Binghamton and Conklin yards are there, and the "largest area MRR" at Roberson Museum layout.

Steamtown, being a little more than an hour form us is "in my back yard".

Now I'll pass on what is "CLOSE to my backyard":

The Strasburg RR and the Pennsylvania RR Museum are "close", as in a 4.5 hour drive one way{could be done in a LONG day trip, but we like to stay overnight}.

The Strasburg runs tourist lines to Paradise PA.

They have a HUGE LHS and they DO do work for other steam tourist RRs.

They are profitable {sorry family owned}.

They even have a real life steamer Thomas the Tank Engine with changing and talking "faces"!

Here is their GENERAL website:

http://www.strasburgrailroad.com/

Here is  some  videos of Thomas at work in Strasburg:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ccWyLO7va0

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifzWLDxbbk8

Strasburg has two main steam runners: #475

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaW8blyYum8

And MY personal favorite: #90:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SqZop8cZrQ

**Here is a day in the life of Strasburg with Thomas:**:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcdQxwbyUYc

They have a variety of Passes {tickets}: from just a short run, to WIne and Cheese dining and whole dinner dining:

http://www.strasburgrailroad.com/on-the-train/passes-tours/

http://www.strasburgrailroad.com/on-the-train/dining-on-the-train/

Yummy and tastey! They range form just dinner aboard, to Murder Mystery and train robbery to festive ocassions!

Don't forget the NOON SHOP TOUR! WELL worth the extra cost! {some packages include it}.

The RR Museum of PA is right across the street from Strasburg RR and packages to see both can be purchased at Strasburg. It has aHUGE indoor displays of all things Trains.  RR Museum's Main webpage:

http://www.rrmuseumpa.org/

If you wish to suppot, the Royal Blue member support for seniors and the Black Diamond Support group for other Adults is only $40/year.

here is  video of RRMPA:

SO Check out BOTH sites, and peruse!

Here is whole page of Youtube topic videos for the Museum:

Peruse at your liesure!

have a GREAT time imagining being there! OR plan a trip!

Hi Guys

Well, i am up to my usual chores..finished off the leftover dishes, did 3 loads laundry, and so forth.

My back is bothersome as the rain/weather does that to me.

Ok, I plan to call Jeffrey around 12noon my time, which should be 11AM his time, after any morning therapies and before lunch. If not, I will try around 5 pm time {4 his} after any afternoon therapies, but before his dinner.

At least that is the plan.

He may have NOTHING going on as it is a weekend, and hospitals don;t do much. But I am sure he needs to learn how to walk, so I am fairly sure they will have him at least up and moving.

I have recieved some messages to give him in PMs and will pass them along to him.

i am sure he will be most appreciative to know that so many care about him!

Hurry Up if and PM me if you want me to pass along a message!

later!

Good Morning All,

Garry thanks for the continued updates on Jeffery and JohnBoy they are much appreciated. Galaxy when you do speak with Jeff please tell him he's in our thoughts and prayers and we wish him a full recovery with no further complications.

Another day at the shop fixing this and that. Need to find an air leak in the suspension of one of the trailers if it dries up enough plus w..k on a broken roof hatch on the toter home. Oh joy. At least it is outside stuff and i get out of the shop for a bit. Pocono next weekend - hope the warming trend continues. It is brutal in the cold and wind as it's all open space.

Bear - thanks for the links. We stayed at Pukekohe so I've been to the station there as well as Glenbrooks Victoria Station in Waiuku. The video must have been shot from the highway overpass just north of the station though it doesn't really show the grade they are climbing at that point. When we showed up for Victoria Day 2013 they had just completed the second steam engine after a fairly long rebuild and the trip we took was its' first real test with a full consist.

These are not the best focused shots s I was riding on the plate between cab and tender and it's pretty bumpy there. I'm not complainiong though it was a thrill to be there. All the volunteers were so professional and nice.

Time to get back to it. Our thoughts and prayers for those ailing and I look forward to more of the missing checking in.      Cheers, J.R.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of hot oatmeal with brown sugar and a cup of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast Coffee in a n R&GV RR mug please.

I got up early to ghive Blackie his pill.  Tomorrow I will be leaving home before 7AM to drive to Batavia for the Train Show.  It is about an hour and 20 munite drive from here by Thruway.  I tried to get the Pet Sitter to come over but she can't tomorrow, so I have been moving his pill time up about 20 minut6es each time for the last day and a half.  I have been sitting at the kitvhen table watching about 50 starlings half as dozen robins, and a pair of cardinals feeding in thye Flowering Quince in my front yard.  The cardinals are absolutely a beautiful pair.  Hope they are nesting nearby and I will get to watch them all summer...

Galaxy, I will be getting a card for Jeffrey today and will wait to see how long he figures to be in rehab before I send it out to him.

Currently 39°F outside here in the Finger Lakes with a mix of rain and little white thingies coming down and a 20 to 30mph wind blowing.  What a beautiful day to work in an unheated caboose (Hoping against hope the stove lights....) on track being used for the first time this season with 20 boy scouts on board....  We will likely make a test run before we have the Scouts board for their trip, but still the first run each year always is a careful and nervouse one watching the track and everything else.  I will be riding outside on C-254 looking for any problems on the test trip rather than being inside the caboose out of the wind and enjoying the heat (if it lights).

Need to get a few things done here before I leave, so I will catch you all this evening...

Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO

We'll get there sooner or later!

Good morning .... Coffee and a doughnut please.

Evidently, the forum messaging (private messages) is working. I have communicated with both Ulrich and Galaxy.

How long will Jeffery be in the Rehab Hospital ? ..... I can not answer and Galaxy really can not answer at this time. .... It will be for an indefinitite period. ... It will be quite a while.

So, please send get well cards now to the rehab hospital. Don't wait. Galaxy has the address and I have the address.

I do not know if mail sent to his regular mail address wil be delivered to him in the hopsital.  Galaxy, you may ask Jeff if it will. I certainly enjoyed my phone conversation with Jeff.

I want to thank Galaxy for his willingness to pitch in here and help with communications regarding Jeffery. Jeff, by the way, also uses his Native American name, Running Bear.

Zstripe ... Thanks for relaying the news to other forums. ... I am communicating in 2 of them about Running Bear  but not all of them. ....

Happy Model Railroading !

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and the three piece fried chicken dinner please. Thanks.

Sunny, with a high near 54.

Wow, running late. Ray beat me inSurprise.

Happy B-Day yesterday Dennis!

Jimmy- Ditto what J.R. says about the door. And good luck on Monday. Oh wait, if you’re gonna use foam on top, then I wouldn’t think the hollow core would make much of a difference.  And ditto what Charlie said too. You’ll only get to cut less than about ¾ of an inch off the top and bottom of the doors before you open it up to the hollow. THAT, I wouldn’t recommend. But, you could save the cuts and stick them back in the ends.

That’s what I have to do at my buddy’s house yet. I needed to cut 13/16 in off top and bottom of the door to fit the opening. That was enough to cut the framing off the top and bottom so I’m cutting two strips to put back in so the door has support on the ends.

Flip- So glad you’re doing better.

I can hardly wait until Johnboy shows back up and starts telling us how he’s doing much better as well.

Galaxy- Pass on my best wishes to Jeff.

Jeffrey’s a tuff old bird. I sure hope he gets his hot sauce while he’s in there. I pity the folks if he don’t.

This is going to be a good weekend to be doing outdoor yardw*rk. Let the dog out this morning and almost didn’t come back in. I just looked at all the stuff that needs done. Then, I came back in, paid some bills and stopped in here.

Welp, got TOP so order up!

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

I'm a small town boy. A product of two people from even smaller towns. I don’t talk on topic….. I just talk. Laugh

I was figuring for my door when I get it, to get them one at a time, and keep a modular design to them.  Keep the Coal Mine/empties yard as one for switching and as a portable layout.  So hypothetically, I could cut the bottom off, save it, and place it farther up in the cut door to use that as support?

These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway.  As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).

Hi Guys,

Ok, I spoke to Jeffrey,

He seems in good spirits, but does say it will be awhile before he will be back home and on the 'puter.

They want to be sure his foot heals well, so Does Jeffrey!

I passed along all your well wishes {I think I named you all who sent them to me}, and said I'd keep him on the prayer list, and he said good.

In therapy they kick around a ball, and he said he kicked it so hard with his left foot {the one operated on} he hit the therapist's forehead! I'll bet it gave the therapist a headache!

SO it MUST be doing OK.

If you want to send cards, he says send them to his home c/o his father.

Mike GTW: the answer to your question is NO, not available there, but thanks anyway.

Have a great afternoon y'all.
