Probly does not fit your decor.

The missus may have objections ...

Just out of frustration, I drew up the engine house:

Heartland Division CB&Q

Karl ... Is that NCE deal available to anybody? ... If so, do they care about the condition of the decoders you trade in?

Also, Karl .... Any chance you can work less hours? Your frequency of posting has decreased in recent weeks .

See the very bottom of this page for details,

http://ncedcc.com/customer-care.html

Hopefully the hours will decrease soon (I was supposed to be off today) but as they say, stuff happens! Huh?

Karl

NCE über alles! Thumbs Up

Mornin'....  Well!  I guess it is afternoon already.

Janie, just a cup of dark roast coffee right now, I guess.

Ulrich, I love the designs you create!  Don't forget to do a detailed interior for that engine house...  Something like this might be good:

I have, as always, a list of items to get done for a few of the organizations I am part of.  Just about on my way dowbn to chruch to make a bunch of copies of the recomendations written for our MLK Scholarship Applicants.  Then I have to stop over to the Insurance office to pick up a Canadian In surance Card for the PiP.  Wnat to legal when I go to the Region Convention the first weekend in May.

There will be a household auction over accross the street in the house where the lady passed away several months ago.  the p[roperty is being purchased by a gentleman who is a train nut.  He was a lighting contractor for theater productions during his carreer so we have a bit in common.  He should be a great neighbor.  Also is interested in doing operations on the SLOW when I get to that point as well.

Best get myself moving and getting the list of items shortened down!

Later!

Ray - I was afraid you might say something like that Smile, Wink & Grin

Why, of course, the interior will be detailed. I will build this one using scale lumber instead of cardboard & paper. Speaking of lumber, I just ordered all the lumber I need to build the piers. I found a source where I have to pay about 40% of what it would cost to get that stuff from my local store, including p&p!

Chamomile tea, please.

***Ray, what an awesome new neighbor to have moving in.

Very long and exhausting day here. New worker is worth every penny. I'll have to help him some tomorrow, but after that he is on his own. He catches on quickly.

Good night!

Evenin' Folks!

Janie, a cup of decaf would be great right now...

Aaaahhhhhhh....  Long day here!  I went down to church early this afternoon and ran off copies of the letters of revomendation from the candiates for the MLK Scholarships, redid the listing of qualification we do of eacdh candiate for comparison as the one done by our president didn't translate from his program into a PDF or Word document well (stuff didn't line up the way it should), ran off all the materials and now have it all colated and ready to hand out to the committee on Friday when we do the interviews.  We will be interviewing one kid tomorrow who has a track meet on Friday.  That kid is a Scholar Athlete with a 90+ ave. and appears to really have his head on straight!  One of the people he has a recomendation from is the Police Officer who has worked at the Middle and High School over the years!  Glowing recomendation, BTW.  All but one of the applicants this year is absolutely what we are looking for to get a scholarship!  Great bunch of kids from what I see on their applications.   We will find out more about them from their Guidance councilors tomorrow.  Most of the interviews are on Friday.

I did several more signs for the turnout swicthes on the fascia of the layout today.  I still have to print some different ones to get it all finished.

Lit a fire in the wood stove about an hour ago.  Going down to 32°F tonight....  This could be the last night for the wood stove this season though.  Don't fire it up unless it is down in the 30's outside.  House is 72°F here where I am typing and the stove is shut way down.

Rob glad you have found a good worker for the farm.

Just about time to turn in for the night.  Prayers for all in need!

 Evening Dinners!

Flo Beer Pleases and a Roast Beef Sandwich with chips.

Really a dull day at work, if you can call it work. Mainly sit on my caboose and read. I have been there for 37 weeks and have read 37 books. Now while that does not sound impressive I have read serval that where 700 to 850 pages. Book about Dwright D Eisenhower called The Supreme Commander was the hardest read. 850 Pages, small font and a real hard read, but I made it. Just finshed The Patton Papers about General George S Patton. Very well written and while 855 pages was a easy read.

Well that tells you how boring of a day I have had, telling you about books I have read! Confused

So Todd, do you still watch NCIS? Whistling

Healing prayers for Galaxy and all others in need!

Good Morning!

A rather dull day here, overcast, windy - just uncomfortable. Better to stay inside.

No progress planned on the layout. I have to wait for material to arrive, which makes me a little itchy to spend some of that translation money on maybe another loco or rolling stock. So far I have "only" the Forney and that caboose/combine thing. I need a couple of box cars, a flat car and a passenger car, but that would be too big a drain on the budget. I´d like to keep some of those funds for rainy days, of which we have had plenty in the recent past.

Ray, Garry -- I had a look at Ray´s tutorial. Those clouds look fantastic, but I don´t get those stencils here. I may try the sponge technique I have seen in that video. Need to get the boards, first.

Blessings to all!

Good morning!  It's nice out, but chilly, only in the 40s on the way in.  We had a "wind event" in the middle of the night, and no, it wasn't me eating chili again.

Ulrich, I was giving some thought to your backdrop.  The coast of Maine is noted for fog, which might help simplify your job.  You could, with perfectly good modeling fidelity, simply paint the back wall gray.  If it were me, I would get some photos of coastal towns viewed from the water, and then convert them to gray scale.  Next, I would play with them on the computer to "de-focus" the pictures and make them a bit blurry.  Print them out full size and put them up, in particular paying attention to the roads in the picture and how you can attach them to the roads on your layout.  Assemble the pictures on the computer the same way they are on the layout, into one long picture.  Here, we can go to an office-supply place like Staples and have them printed on a single long sheet of paper.

I found this picture of Damariscotta, a picturesque town.

If you cut out the sky and the water, you'd have a pretty nice scene.  It's even got clouds if you'd prefer a blue sky.  This wouldn't be long enough for your whole layout, but with a few more pasted together you could have a very nice background at a fraction of the cost of a store-bought one.

Finally, here is Gigi, my new GG-1:

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Good morning

Shelley thanks everyone for the birthday greetings, We had a good celebration with neighbors.

Karl ... Thanks for info. I'll gather up some bad decoders to send to NCE.

Ray ... Good to see the engine house again. Interior is fabulous.

Ulrich.   I had good luck with Ray's method when I tried it. I made my own stencils. Take sheets of newpaper and tear the edges into shapes like edges of clouds. This works well and it is cheap. ... I still like your idea of having Petra do it too.... If you are going to do it, practice on old cardboard pieces that you can throw away when done.

Ken .... Have you become a book worm?

Galaxy ... Get well soon.

Mr B.... I like the GG1. I recall riding on Pennsy trains behind them.

Happy Model Railroading

Good morning. It's 67° with 97% humidity and dense fog. The high will be 85° and cloudy.
Morning: Afternoon:

Power went out just after noon yesterday and came back on about two and a half hours later. Our planned lunch became a late lunch/early dinner. I wasn't really all that hungry as I could feel a gallbladder attack coming on. So I had one serving of red beans and rice and cornbread then went home. I was down most of the rest of the day with only a little time spent online.

Found an HO Scale Big Boy in my mail yesterday. It'll never run though. It's a Revell model kit. Eventually I'll get around to putting it together. Right now I have no room for it.

Today I'm expecting to receive an AE 128k memory card I won in an auction. It's one of those hard to find things you don't expect to find. Got it at a great price but it still wiped out my fun money. Also expecting a 'Runaway Train' DVD I got for next to nothing considering it had free shipping.

No telling what's going on today so wait and see I guess.

Pretty quiet round the diner this morning. Hmm wonder why? Well, today I go pick up the new SUV at 11. MOH is still under the weather with her cold/flu/sinus thing and can't come along. Kind of too bad because she is soooo excited about the new vehicle. Oh well, she can look out the window when I get home.

After yesterdays pouring rain and 60 km winds, today is beautiful and sunny. Only going to +9 C which is 7 degrees below normal but no wind is a blessing as far as I'm concerned. I hate wind... makes me all antsy and whatnot.

Bout it for now folks

Regards

Ahem....,  Afternoon folks!

Chloe I'll have a cup of hot chjocolate for now, thanks...

The sun has been shining so far today here in the Finger Lakes today.  Current temperature is 43°F with a high of 53°F sometime later this afternoon they say.  Low tonight is predicted to be 35°F...  Probably won't light the wood stove unless the low arrives before I go to bed tonight.

Some trees are showing signs of life and are busy turning green.  Others are still waiting for Spring to arrive...  I went over to the Vets office this morning to pick up a case of canned food for the boys and then did some grocery shopping.  They had some cat litter on sale, two containers for $10 and then you get 20 points toward the gas discount they do (10¢ off per gallon for every 100 points you collect).  Of course I get to that aisle and there is only one jug of the cat litter on sale left...  So I corner one of the managers and ask if they have any more out back.  He goes to check, come back and says "nope", but he will give the larger size in direct replacement for the smaller one.  So I used the discount, got the gas points and considerably more cat litter for $10.

I have to be at the High School by 2:30 to help interview one of the applicants for the MLK Scholarship award.  Then we will hear from the Guidance Councilors about each of the candidates...  Tomorrow we interview the rest of them.

Jeffrey, all that and gallbladder problems too?  If it weren't for bad luck you'd have no luck at all!

Later!

Good Morning!!!

Double slawburger with cheese and an order of onion rings please. And a Sprite. Thank you

Suppose to rain this afternoon so…. Like Ken, I have a few years of accumulation to remove so the cleanup is long.

Ken- I jump on the wagon that says Sparkie is adorable. Nope….haven’t watched NCIS since Ziva leftCrying. I would say I’m teaching her/them a lesson, but seeing as how they don’t seem to have suffered in the ratingsLaugh, it just gives me more time to do stuff.

Welp, stopped in for lunch and to get caught up so…back to w*rk before it rains and w*rk tonight.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Went to my fathers place for beans, rice and cornbread again. No power failure this time. Memory card and DVD arrived OK. The card seems to work well. Now I need to find software for it.

Picked up the new wheels today, but by the time I got home, I was starting to feel kind of yucky and I can now confirm the I've caught MOH's cold/sinus/flu.

Exploration of the new wheels will have to wait till I'm feeling better. ARRRRGGG I HATE FEELING like this.

Evening guys

I was down with the crud for the past week and a half (the longest I've ever been sick). But I feel better now.

I'm off tomorrow too, so I may work on some kits I got in the mail recently. If I find my #80 drill bits (I have 3 tubes of them) I may work on the 2 ex-CB&Q wood cabeese... I have an airlslide and an NP caboose to assemble/finish...

Jeff, what's weird is 3 of the 4 digitrax decoder failures have been the same engine... I'm wondering if the loco has a current draw issue (I forgot how to check) that is doing that. First one just died, second started working in one direction only, third causes a short...

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Sure sounds like that could be the issue. I believe CudaKen has or had one that was doing the same thing. It loved decoders. For breakfast, lunch and dinner!

If it was that ATSF SD40-2 of Ken's, I have it now. It's not fried a decoder since I swapped the motor out with one I got from you, lol... Mine is another athearn RTR SD40-2

How does one check current draw? I have a multimeter that reads amps, but I forgot what I'm supposed to hook up...

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Pleases.

 The Battle Goes on!

Got another Fed-X letter from Bank Of Stupid! They are saying I have not sent all the needed documents yet again! This has been going on now for 2 plus years! Heck it could be 3 years by now! I hired the attorney in Nov of 2013 to handle this mess and Caitlin faxes and mails them everything they have asked for! I was at her offices two weeks ago and she had everything they wanted and sent it. (I will add this is the fourth time) But yet again, they say they are missing stuff, who the heck is in charge of that places!   Bang Head

Ray I still marvel every time I see that photo of the engine house! Are trees and grass are starting to come to life as well. Not that I am happy about it! I hate cutting grass! Now with Sparkie being a small dog, I am going to be cutting it a lot! With a Wolfhound, well it takes a while for it to be to tall for them.

Gary, I have all wise enjoyed reading, just not much time to do till now. That is one of the things I enjoy about being back in the mattress business. Main reason I took the job was so my foot would heal which it sort of has. On a busy day, out of 10 hours I am on my feet maybe 3 hours if that.

Todd, so you watched NCIS only for Ziva? I still love the show plus I still think Abby is hot! Stick out tongueAngel

Dennis and Galaxy, hope you both feel better real soon!

Vincent, real reason you got the SD 40-2 was because I was tired of messing with the darn lights! It has been a while, so it may have ate some decoders. The real decoder eater is the Athearn Southern Pacific SD 50! I think that darn engine ate around 5 decoders and I replaced the motor twice!

Hum, speaking of Decoder problems I wonder is Shaky will run now that it sat for 7 months? Whistling I will take the time Friday to post on how to test amp’s being pulled, do you have a DC power pack?

By the way Vince, did you see the video of my Road Runner running?

 See you all Friday

Ken: BoS wouldn't be able to find all the documents even if they were stapled together, locked in a protective case and carefully numbered with a big red crayon.

*

Watched an old movie today. At least I think 1985 is old for a movie. For those who have seen it these few captured scenes should bring the title to mind.

Boy did those guys pick the wrong train.

Home Health nurse comes tomorrow to to put a new dressing on my foot. I've been teaching her how to build it up properly and it looks like she's learning. The last one lasted more than a day more it had a blowout and needed to be patched. The first one she did for me lasted a whole eight hours.

The only work I did today was an old Apple //e add-on card. It needed some chips replaced so I sorted through my good ones and was able to replace every one of them. It's amazing how small the components have become. My //e's processor is slightly bigger than two postage stamps. If I were to shrink it down in comparison with today's components it would be smaller than a grain of sand. A ten megabyte hard drive back in 1983 was about the size of a large cereal box. Today I have a one terabyte hard drive that's only slightly bigger than one of my old 64k RAM cards (3" x 5.5"). Isn't technology grand?

That's it for today. See y'all tomorrow.

Whistling

GOOD MORNING ALL,

Seeing Galaxy and Tipton Bill arn't around I'll start the day for them.

HOT chocolate and Bagels (cinnamon) for everyone and put it on my tab.

It is April 25th 2014, T.G.I.F.   Yes it is Friday once again, another week has flown by.

I'm on here as I woke at 4:50 and couldn't get back to sleep, so I thought I would check the Diner for action overnight, and found nothing since Jeff over seven hours ago.

I will burn out my eyes here for a bit and try to sleep some more.

Spring has finally come here, the snow is all gone. Had a good day of rain on Wednesday but it will be cool for the week end.

Still unable to swallow which is very annoying to me, but doing all the exercises that the Therapist has given me. Other than that I feel pretty good although quite weak most of the time. I am walking about nine blocks when the weather is good, so that is going to help.

Have a funeral to go to on Saturday as my BIL passed on Sunday evening.  He was 75, just two years my senior.  He was a great Guy, loved his family and his horses and had friends everywhere.  He will truly be missed.  RIP George.

ULRICH, very nice work going on in your train room. The bench work is immaculate. It is going to be a winner.

C.C. Willie, hope you both are feeling better and get out to play with that new set of wheels.

Healing thoughts and prayers for all in need, and in particular, our Galaxy..........

Well, I'm going to try to get some more shut eye for a while, will check back later.

Ya all have a good un,  as Jerry would say.   I wonder how he is doing, not seen him in quite a spell.

Johnboy out........................and close to being about, but not yet.....Sad

Good Morning!!!

Coffee, 2 eggs over medium, hash browns, 2 strips thick cut bacon and a waffle with maple syrup please. What’s that? Bagels….ok, I’ll have one of those too. Thank you.

Sunny, with a high near 73.

Garry- Happy belated birthday to Shelly!!Happy B-Day

Ken-  No I didn’t just for Ziva, but I say so. Actually, I’ve watched it for so long and so often what with the USA network and their reruns I just needed a reason to tear myself away. I used Ziva’s leaving as a reason to get off my rump and do something else much the same way I used Brenda’s heart attack to quit smoking. HmmNot the best comparison, but you get the idea.

Jeffrey- Sounds like your starting to get the nurses trained well. Funny. You’re paying to train them……only in the U.S. You know, consultants get paid more than trainers. Maybe you just want to consult them. Then turn in a bill. See what they say.

Johnboy- Sorry about your BIL, prayers for the family.

Korean Ginseng. On my first of many trips over there (S. Korea) I got the sniffles. I was told by a local to take Korean Ginseng, they just called it Ginseng, every day and I will not get sick much at all and if I do, it will be very mild. So far (knocks on wood) she was right. That’s been what, 15 years ago? Wow! Can’t believe it’s been that long. Time sure flies. Anyway, I have not been sick other than my sinus issues since. I’ve had that since I was a kid WHICH are probably an allergy to something as of yet unnamed. One pill a day and poof! Healthy as a ho (cough cough)… horse.Yes

Gotta be in Sherman at 9:30 to help unload some furniture for a buddy of mine so I’m not getting started on anything until I get back. May not do much around here today because I’ll be halfway to Springfield and may run a couple errands there since this weekend we’ll be going in the opposite direction to Lincoln for dinner and groceries instead. Hey, $25 gift card for Cracker Barrel makes it a no brainer!

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!  You too G! Hope you feelin better quick!
