Howdy ...

Thankfully, the storm has not affected our power (so far). We have thick ice covered with a few inches of snow. Nobody at all has been driving on our road today. The big hill at the begining of our road is not drivable today. Good day to work on the model railroad inside.

JR .... Thanks for telling about your racing weekend. Sounds like you did very well.

Karl .... I recall you posted photos of the 2-bay hppper.a feww weks ago.  It looks great.

Jeff ...  David is a great person based on what you say.

Vincent.... Please don't get discouraged about job hunting. You wil get what you want eventually. Meanwhile, model railorading is good for keeping sanity.

well

what an exhausting day. I went with MOH to the Dr, {hip issues form falling out of bed} They did Xrays and the dr gave us 2 scripts one for me, one for MOH. Problem is, he wrote oen for MOH that they no longer make/fill. Mine was a renewal/upgrade in strength for mine. Priobelm IS, he wrote it for generic adn no generic exists!

Jeff ... David is a great person based on what you say.

That he is. I could pay him for what he's doing but I know he wouldn't accept it.

*

Good afternoon. It's 31° with 100% humidity. Wind chill is 25°. The high is where it's at right now. Freezing rain and sleet expected tonight with low of 28°.

Slept in until 11am then spent a couple of hours looking through the closet for my weathering powders. Found them in a box under a stack of Apple clone disk drives. I'm going to need the powders soon. I have two new Bachmann locos coming and something shiny and new would look totally out of place on my layout and that I can't have. I have the decoders ready and waiting for them. Plug and play so no waiting or wiring.

Also did some work on my //e. Nothing major. Just notching the back of the cover so a joystick cord can pass through when I have one to plug into it.

Afternoon guys

Taking my little break between work and class. Figure I'd stop in here after finishing those cars. I would take pictures of them, but i don't have any batteries that will work with my camera and my cellphone's camera sucks.

Ulrich, I think it's kind of weird too. I waited a week after submitting my resume and then I called and got told I didn't make the interview process. Then a week later they call me for one... Then they don't call me to tell me wheter I got it or not.

My father works for the company too, and he said he talked with the lady who did the interview. The lack of job related experience was the first thing she mentioned, then she mentioned that I was looking all over the place during the interview (I'm autisic and pretty much switch back and forth from OCD to ADHD regularly, and I was pretty nervous the whole time) and she said I kind of "threw my current co-workers under the bus."

The latter is kinda true, but they did ask what I think of my co-workers and I told them the truth. As I've mentioned before, most of them are more worried about smoking or chatting than working... There are a few exceptions, and for a company whose motto is "our customers should pay for results, not attempts" I figured my similar ethic would help (I'm paid to work, not to stand around and smoke or chat)

As for the caboose, I'll pretty echo what Curt said. Except I use cheap pastel sticks and grind them up for powders.

Garry, I was a little discouraged, not as much now. I did apply for a similar job with another company (also on base) and hopefully I hear back from them. If I don't, several of the car dealers around here are hiring and I have some sales experience (I think, lol). The only issue with the car salesmen is I'm a Ford Guy, not a Chevy, Honda, Kia, Volkswagen, or Dodge guy.

Galaxy, My co-workers would say I'm pretty reliable and punctual. Not sure what you mean by "buck the system" though. According to my instructor and classamates I have the stuff for that job down pact. I mean I have repeatedly done work that the instructor gives out that probably takes most poeple a few hours and have it finished within a few minutes.

Karl, the shortening of the hopper looks nice good.

JR, Playing Forza I've always hated that aspect of Sebring. the rough concrete.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Still 33° but feels like 25°. It's been like that all day. Probably doesn't feel too bad in town but out here with the wind coming off the lake it's almost unbearable. Tonight will be 27° with a wind chill of 10°. I'm not going out there.

Didn't do much today. Still to cold and windy out there for me and I didn't feel like doing anything inside. So I surfed around on the net, played some pinball then wasted some time on the //e playing Lode Runner with keyboard controls. That was fun.

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Yes,you have to be VERY careful about slamming your coworkers or bosses, or whomever! Even on Social media!

I spent 2 months in college management class on how to: detail a poor workers experience and even fired people's files on how/why they were fired. YOU have to be VERY carefull as a Manager, as well as you found out," in life!"

What that type of statement shows {as far as they are concerned} is that "he thinks he is better than everyone else" that "no one can do it better than he" {whether they are truely lazy bums or not} . THAT is NOT what I assume you were trying to put out there! Find positives to say about anybody, and focus MORe often on YOUR abilities and obstacles you have overcome! DOn't avod their question, but a simple well placed "when the call arises, all my coworkers pull together as a team to get teh job done" {which should be true if/when you get busy.} It also says he MAY be a "complainer" about things. Again not what you wanted to point out.

Also: When asked about adversity you have turned positive, don't be afraid to point out the daily struggles you have as a "highly functioning autistic person". AGain, be CAREFUL how you "put that out there".. it must a be turned into a positive for you to have overcome a struggle of being "different", maybe. Not a whine about your "lot in life' as an autistic person, but proof postive you can take adversity and turn it around to a postive light. OR THEN is when you point out how hard working you are..{Taking care NOT mentioning lazy coworkers}.

Job interviews are tricky things. You may encounter more in your lifetime than you will like!

GOod/Best of luck for your next one!

Tomorrow morning could be interesting.  I'm going to an interview & audition for a volunteer position doing radio broadcasting for the visually impaired.  Might be good preparation for more mainstream voiceover work.  And there might be some railfanning to do on the way there and on the way home.  Later, gents.

Vincent. For a better experience try driving Sebring on Forza with someone kicking the chair hard as they can from behind.

Karl - that's a powerful lot of overhang on that loco. I recommend motion sickness pills when you operateIck!.

Alfa - should be better than the time we played a gig for the school for the deaf. If it leads to more work even better.

Time to get some shuteye. Day off tomorrow and junior wants to go see the Mets in Port St. Lucie.   Cheers, J.R.

Happy Soldiers Day! ...... March forth. .... MischiefSmile, Wink & GrinWhistling

Good luck to Alfadawg.

Looks like Jeff's Sundown Shops has some competition regarding creative locomotive kit-bashing after seeing Karl's photo.

Not one vehicle has been on our road since the winter storm that started on Sunday. Hopefully, the county highway crews can open it up today.

I'm glad we have power, and I'll be working on the model railroad.

Cheers

Flo, I'll have the egg mcmuffin and a large coffee, black as usual.

Well it's the last day for Mardi Gras, thank you lord! What a mess with all the traffic and crowds.

It's 36 and raining here in New Orleans.

Jeff - A big hug for Dave. It's nice to have someone close by to help out.

Alfadawg - Good luck on your interview, looking at your avatar looks like you play music also. I have three children and all play music. Oldest is at Tulane about to graduate, her major music composition and wants to compose and teach music. Middle daughter plays trumpet fo LA Tech., youngest plays clarinet and sax  in 6th grade.

To all I pray for winter to be over! I was in shorts Sunday with highs in the 70's yesterday and today 40 and belowBang Head.

Have a great day,

Jerry

Good morning. It's 26° with 97% humidity. Wind chill is 19°, maybe a bit lower here by the lake. The high will be 35°. Freezing rain and sleet likely this morning then rain and maybe a small chance of freezing rain this afternoon.

No sleep last night due to my back and right knee cutting up. Maybe I can get some sleep sometime today. Being it's cold and wet there's little point in going outside. The layout is a disaster but will have to wait. I see no reason to work on it at this time. I don't even want to work on the computers today so that should give you an idea of how I'm feeling.

Good Afternoon!

Yet another gray day, with nothing really meaningful to do, other than wait for the money to find the way to my bank account. Petra and I are on a diet right now, living of whatever we find in the refrigerator. Ain´t much in there, I tell you!

I am battling a big headache, got a sore neck, so I can hardly turn my head. If I do, there seem to be shots of lightning through it Sigh

Jeff I hope you´ll be soon feeling better!

Have a rewarding day, folks!

Mornin' folks!

Well, Zoe, I see that today is National Pancake Day...  Free, you say!  Well, I'll have a full stack of buttermilk pancakes, bacon, and.....  What?  That's fine, I can pay for the other stuff,  yes I know that only the pancakes are free....  Oh, and don't forget my dark roast coffee in my R&GV RR Mug, Please.  Yes, I'll pay for that as well......  (Sheesh!)

Ulrich, gray appears to be the color all over.  Thick, dark, clouds here in Finger Lakes this morning.  It is what we used to call a "Sn*w Sky".  In fact we will get a bit, about an inch they say.  Current temperature is 10°F with a high around 23°F.  Wow!  (Looks at calendar) Hmmmm.  Yep March 4!  I'm ready for the temp to get above freezing for a change.  In the last Month it has been above freezing here all of 6 days.  Hope the bank gets some of the $$$ you need soon.

Alphdawg, first off, good luck with the interview!  You will find quite a few Musicians around these parts.  There are a lot of us in the hobby.  Music and Model Railroading seem to go together I guess.  I was a Professional Musician (Singer) for 48 years and a k-12 Vocal/General Music Teacher for 32 years.  I also owned a small Live sound, Recording, and DJ business for 17 years.  Loss of hearing made me give it all up.  The Live Sound finished it off...  I grew up on a farm and spent my youth driving trucks and tractors all the time.  None of them had mufflers except the new tractor which my Dad drove more than me...  I graduated from Eastman School back in '68.  I loved hearing the National Anthem that started the Super Bowl this year as she and I had the same Artist Teacher!  Done brought tears to this old guys eyes, it did!

I got a little more done on the foundation for the Blacksmith's shop last night.  I will need to put in a stone wall and a road bridge over the tracks near the shop so I did some research and figuring in my head of how this will go together....  All part of the process, But I really, really need to get this done.  I am 6 months over on when I was supposed to have it done already!

Need to print a bunch of Scholarship forms for the MLK Committee today and get them over to the High School.  I have a long list of other stuff as well.  Best get myself moving...

Morning all from the frozen -25 C degree north. Still winter to say the least.

Drove the 100 miles north yesterday to visit the MIL. She is NOT a happy camper to say the least. I don't think she had any idea of what living with a Colostomy would be like. Given that she's pretty much blind, she can't change her bag herself and the nurses keep telling her she has to learn to do it by feel. Give me a break. MIL is 92 years old, has arthritis and can't see.

Hopefully when she goes home to the seniors lodge she live at the Home Health care will be able to do it for her. Of course, there is a whole change in diet as well which she didn't expect as well so not happy about that either. Right now, I get the impression that if she had any real understanding of what living with a Colostomy would entail, she would have not bothered and let the cards fall as they may.

It may sound unloving on my part but hopefully, the cancer will do it's work quickly and she will not have to suffer with all this for too long. Sad way to go. I feel so sorry for her and so helpless to help.

Nothing scheduled on the RR front today as we have some running around to do which will take up the better part of the day. Life goes on.

Good karma to all in need

Cheers

Dennis

Good afternoon.

I just heard from JohnBoy. He has just completed his chemo and radiattion treatments. The affects are still very much with him, and he is feeling miserable. Prayers continue for him.

CDN Dennis ... I'm sad to hear about your MIL suffering like that. Prayers for her.

V8 Dennis ... Regarding income taxes, they are a pain to work on every year. We use our computer and tax preparation software for that. We file on line too. It's not hard as long as you have your tax information organized beforehand.

Whew1

what a day!

I won't even go into the nitty-gritty dirty details of my day, but not quite the day form hell, but close...

The script situation is still under "duress" or maybe "distress" is more like it, but it leaves me without a med for pain for a few days! Argh! the injections DO help, but i need a "breakthough" pain med as my Dr. calls it so that I am nto in stabbing  pain from, say, bending over the washer.

I started a whole long post yesterday and *PooF* it vanished! That is part of the reason i don;t wnat to start one today!

Well, dinner will be somehting..probably pig.

EDIT: werll, MOH is having a worse day. i wasn't expecitng MOH hone this afternoon, but and so I checked the calendar {too late} amd MOH had an appt. to be at! SO now MOH is late and is a work appt.! Hope MOH doesn't get a write up. TOmorow is the late day for the appt. not today!

Good to hear from Johnboy. As phil/flip says he is often weak form his ordeal,  I am so sure Johnboy is.

Keep us posted and I have Johnboy on the prayer list everyday! You may tell him so! I got a votive candle for him hat lasts longer than taper candles for his prayer candle!

I have Dennis's MIL on too, and NO, AS I know it, colostomy bags are NO FUN. I feel for her, and would not doubt she is getting more distressed over it.

I even keep Ulrich on the list as with his ups and downs, I don't know. But he shall survive with our prayers.

Later all,

Never did get any sleep today. I just haven't felt like sleeping. But I did get something accomplished today. Got the grocery shopping done and didn't have to drive there and back. I simply asked my father when he was going to do his. Well he wasn't going to do any but he and his wife wanted to go to Lowe's to check out some showers. Seems he's going to have the tub ripped out and a walk-in shower installed. In this town Wal-Mart and Lowe's are next to each other. I got enough to fill up the cabinets and the fridge. Stuff in the fridge/freezer is heavy on sandwich supplies (bread, salami, ham, olive loaf, mayo, ketchup, mustard, cheese), chicken (fried of course), Cajun sausage and chimichangas. There's plenty of chili in the kitchen cabinet along with rice and pasta dinners. Plenty of raw rice in the rice box/dispenser on the bookshelf in my room. Also picked up a bunch of cans of my favorite snack. Vienna sausages, in several flavors of course, the spicier the better. Made sure to top up the hot sauce supply too. I get several really hot types and mix up my own. My father has asked me on occasion why I need a soldering gun. All I gotta do is breath on the stuff and it'll melt. I just tell him I don't like showing off. :)) Also picked up several cans of starter fluid for the van. In cold weather like we've been having it really likes that stuff.

Well hey y'all!  its been a couple months since I've managed to make it in.  On January 24th we welcomed Harmony Louise into the world.  All 9lbs, 3oz and 19.5in of her.  Thankfully, her siblings are all getting along with her just fine.  W**k has been going well, other family life has also been going well.  I just haven't had any time to get onto the computer to check up on anything.  I'm woefully behind to say the least.

We've gotten our taxes done and already gotten the return back.  Alas no MRR supplies, but I was able to get something I've wanted.  I purchased a motorcycle (which helps with my 70mi round-trip commute to work).  I bought a 2003 Suzuki Volusia (predecessor to the Boulevard C50).  Bike had just over 10k on it and I was able to buy it for about a grand less than the "average" price for comparable bikes.

On the MRR side of things, I have bought a couple Blue Box covered hoppers.  I've assembled them, just waiting on the temps to come up and make it easier to get CSX hopper tan put on them.  Other than that, I've done nothing MRR related for over a month.

Welp, that's it for me, I'm going to hang out here at the RC and see what comes along.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, a hot cup cup of decaf would hit the spot right now...

I think I am finally getting tired of Winter....  Currently 15°F outside here in the Finger Lakes.  Got all the way up to 23° earlier this afternoon.

Bama!  Congrates on the little one!  Harmony, huh.  Nice musical name.  I like!

I finally got some stuff done on the scenery portion of the Blacksmith's Shop today.  Doesn't look like much and I have a lot more to figure out and do still, but a start.  The building will cover up a Tortoise Machine at the top of Bare Mountain.  In order for there to be enough room to put a driveway all around the shop I had to use a stone wall so there is no hillside.  Supposedly the RR came through years after the Blacksmith's shop was bult (1832) so the RR put in a stone wall in order to be able to put the rails where they needed...  That's my story and I'm stickin' with it! GrumpyLaugh

And with the building where it will finally rest:

The building will remain removable so I can get to the Tortoise machine if I need to. There will also so be a one lane old style bridge over the tracks going from the left side of the wall.  I have to see how much I have left of the wall pieces to see how much more wall I will have in gthe place.  i want to square off the wall on the left side with stgone going into the hillside on the other side of where the bridge will be, and have some angled into the hillside over on the right side...  This one of gthe priojects where it will get figured out as I go along.  Whistling

Have to get up early tomorrow, so I'm gonna call it a night very soon.

Prayers for everyone on the list and several others as well!

Good Morning!

Boy, is there a thick fog outside! Visibility is less than 50 yards, and temperatures are at 5°C. We are back to normal waether for this time of the year. February has been way too warm - 5°C above the 100 year average.

Today THAT letter arrived from THAT office, but the money was not yet in our account. I´ll check that tomorrow. Providing that the funds will have been transfered tomorrow, there are only two things left to complete my happiness - my April MR in my mailbox and the shipment from the US arriving!

Bama - good to see you again! I have lost count, is Harmony child #4 or #5? Btw, congrats, Sir. Harmony is a sweet name!

Has anyone heard a word from Chris? He has been missing for quite some time now.

Have a good one!
