Hopefullty it will pass with flying colors..having just bought new tires {another $600} and the breaks now, I know 2 items that will pass with flying colors!
I`ve had my truck in the shop since this past Thursday........new license plate light harness, inside driver side door handle broke, fuel pump, catalytic converters ( my truck takes 2 ), and new valve lifters......hopefuly I get it back tomorrow.

Today I tore down my two Apple IIe's that I had for parts and combined them to build one. I put it through a tough battery of tests to check it out and it passed every test. Then the power supply went up like a grass fire! Changed it out and ran the tests again. No surprises this time.

Mr. B, A happy birthday to you sir! You are now as old as I am... In numbers anyway. Hope you had a great day!
Made a trip to the LHS this afternoon and picked up a large box of Balsa wood. I will be ripping it to size to make the very large timberts I need for the King Post Bridge I am now building for the road by the Blacksmiths shop. I should have everytyhing else I need to make it. Looks I should get a couple good days to work on the projects. The decal paper also arrived from Micro-Mark today. Also bought a small electric screwdriver they had on sale and a cutting board for protecting the table I have been cutting stuff on. My workbench I have an old 2 x 12 hunk of pine I use. gthat is getting pretty weel marked up. ned to sand it down again....
The Finger Lakes Region is under a Winter Storm Warning for Wednesday until 5AM on Thursday. Talking 10 to 14 inches of the white stuff and high winds..... could be a fine mess. Not only that, I have to take my sister to the airport on Thursday Morning! I need to at her house by 9 AM to give us some extra time to get to the airport... I will be watching her flight number on Wednesday to make sure it doesn't get delayed or cancelled. Called her tonight and she was quite agitated and insisted that we are not going to get much if anything here. I read her the warning.... Didn't help!
Hope you all stay out of harm's way and warm! Prayers for all in need!

Hi everybody!
I don't post here too often but I had this urgent need to vent my spleen about some comments made on one of my recent threads. I had all sorts of nasty things to say to my detractors but when I read my comments I realized that they were just as petty as their posts were.
So, I'll take the high road here and just ask everyone to think a while before you hit the 'submit' button. Like Bambi's mom said.....

Lunchtime!
I was about to turn in my order for the On30 track I need, but something kept me from doing it. So I went to the bank to check my account, only to find out that the bloke to whom I sold my old MRR stuff has not yet transfered the money. He should have done it by Friday last week, so I send him a not so friendly reminder. My order of track has to wait for a few more days
Dave - I saw your post. A quick web search revealed, that you were absolutely right - your K4 is one out of the first batch of Bachmann´s K4´s, which did not look as good as the newer releases. Bob could have done that as well, before posting such a derogatory answer. As a former moderator to this forum, I feel there is a certain decline in ethics lately.

Well, thank you all for the nice birthday greetings. Help yourself to the chocolate-on-chocolate layer cake, and have some ice cream, too, if you'd like. Please don't bother with presents - I've got enough stuff already, but buy yourselves something for your layouts instead.
Let's see, mid 50s today, then a touch of.....snow. It looks like the bulk of it will be up north in ski country, which is great because we'll be driving up after the storm for the weekend.
I feel there is a certain decline in ethics lately.
We are required to take 3 ethics courses as part of our annual "learning plan" at work. It used to be that these were mostly just reminders to "do the right thing," not something that most engineers have to be reminded of. In fact, most of the little videos used to illustrate the point were about managers pressuring the engineers to fudge results or skip steps to meet a deadline. Now, though, the message is "don't expose the company to legal liability." It's not about ethics anymore. Following our corporate ethics guidelines won't get you a meeting with St. Peter, although you will be in full compliance with Import/Export regulations. That's what happens when you put ethics training under the control of the Legal Department, I guess. Something about foxes and henhouses comes to mind.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Good Morning All,
Back in Ct, back in the shop, back in the cold. 34F just now with a high in the 50's same as neighbor Beasley there. Catching up paperw..k before picking up tools plus PT this morning so I'm a bit sore (obviously didn't exercize as much as I thought on my trip). I'll just have a coffee to go please Zoe.
A belated Happy Birthday Mr Beasley. Why would anyone put lawyers in charge of ethics? Really. I agree with Ulrich though the tne on the forum has turned a bit harsh again. As my wise old grandad used to say if you can't say something nice.......
Jeff That's what's meant by a smoke test eh? Sounds like you need to Swiss cheese all those power converter boxes. It would be unfun to have one go up when you're not right there to catch it.
Ray - we're due the same storm a bit later. Hope your sister checks her flight for cancellation before you schlep all the way there. Jet Blue actually called us last time the night before to annnounce they had scrubbed the flight one of our guys was on. Weather this year has been crazy so far.
If I don't get busy shuffling papers I won't get into the shop so I'll catch y'all later. Cheers, J.R.
Jet Blue actually called us last time the night before to annnounce they had scrubbed the flight one of our guys was on.
That reminds me of a warning I'll pass on to all of you. We were in a similar situation back in January. We were flying on United, but we had booked our flights on Expedia. Fortunately, a friend who was on the same ski excursion had booked directly with United. He was notified of the cancellation, while we were not. Thanks to his timely warning, we were able to go directly to United and re-book. Expedia didn't contact me, and when I finally got a hold of them they were still unaware of the cancellation, and by that time it would have been too late to rebook. So, next time I'll do my search with Expedia, but I'll buy my tickets directly from the airline.
People grumble a lot about the airlines, particularly when the weather messes things up, but I was very happy with the way United took care of us. I even went to their web site and wrote them a thank-you comment.

Good morning. It's 58° with 99% humidity. The high will be 75°, cloudy with some rain. with No plans for today other than to take it easy.
Well, I have certainly been aroudn town this morning already.
Went to: Wally world, grocery store, CU, Post OFfice, Dollar Tree and Barnes & Noble, then to the liquor store only to get a lottery ticket. Apparently it is "up there" MOH says, so i amuse MOH and buy one ticket.
Lets see is that it? Yep I think so.
Now I also have a load of laundry in and did the remaining dishes.
I have been a busy beaver!
Now to review the budget for the spending I did and then to fisnish of fthe luandry.
It is a *balmy* 45F out there! I actuall took off my light weight Witner coat in favor just my long sleeve shirt over T shirt!
But not tonight/tomorrow with that blasted storm coming! Hopefully it is THE last "hurrah" for winter..then comes spring??!
Well, best get at my chores..
Last weekend saw the famous ONTRAXS model railroad show in Utrecht/The Netherlands. Each year, they exhibit some of the finest pieces of European model railroading art - right in the Nederlands Spoorweg Museum/The Dutch Raileay Museum. What a setting!
Here is a link to a little video, showing some fine modeling.

Good morning, campers. Ham and cheese omelet with extra onions, please. Getting up to 82 degrees today so my wife and I are having a date afternoon and heading off to the St. Louis Zoo. Tired of job hunting and not feeling well so some time out will be good for both of us. Back on the radio again on Thursday morning, broadcasting USA Today for the visually impaired. Found plans for a cool little switching layout that might fit my limited space quite well. Still assessing what I need to build it, but I do have much of the track, lumber and some of the structures. Just the thing for my growing collection of small switchers and transition era rolling stock.
Have a splendid day.

For the moment the siun is out there shining and making me some electricity. Not supposed to last as by afternoon the cloiuds will take over. Right now it is a pleasent 45°F near the high of 46°F predicted. By this evening it will be back down to 32°F and the white stuff will start to fall. Storm totals by Thursday Morning will be between 10" and 18" with around 1/10th inch of ice as well.... "Oh Joy, Oh Rapture..."
Mr. B. and J. R., actually from the point of view of a business the legal dept. is the perfect one to teach "Ethics...". I say that for a couple of reasons. When I first filed my DBA for my Music Business, my CPA informed me that the "Purpose of a business is to make money". Nothing more, nothing less. I had 5 years to show a profit. If I didn't Uncle Sam would stop by and inform me I was running a hobby not a business and take back any savings I had accrued from the business. So by the 4th. year of my Business I started to show some profit from it. Never made a whole lot, but none the less a profit. Ethics is not part of that equation as the purpose of a business is to make money. Now I consider myself to be an ethical and moral person and did my best to always run my business from that standpoint. If I couldn't consider what I was doing to be moral and ethical I didn't do it. There were a good number of popular songs I would not play, particularly at teenage dances. On the other hand if I played those songs there, I would not be hired back. That would cause me to lose business and therefore profit. I could have made that up by playing other gigs, but I wouldn't have done that for, ah, ethical reasons.... I also hired high school kids to work for me at gigs. Most of them were Eagle Scouts. Main reason I looked for Eagle Scouts to work for me, I knew that their ethics amd morals were pretty close to mine and therefore promoted the business model I adopted. I also knew that they would look out for my interests when it came to handling my equipment.
However.... The big reason for many companies to have "ethics" policies is to support the Definition of a business. Good ethics in some areas helps the bottom line. In other areas it can hurt the bottom line.... I am of the opinion that the larger the business the less important ethics becomes except as it helps profit. Ethics becomes important only when not having ethics results in lawsuits and/or fines that hurt the profit.... Therefore the legal dept. has a direct stake in what the company considers to be "important" to the success of the business.... I tend to buy from small companies and stores and businesses where I know the people and what they consider to be ethical and moral. Those that are only there to make money for the wealthy, I avoid! Just examine the history of the railroads over the years, think of the sweatshops a hundred years ago that hired 6 year old kids at very low wages, just because they could. Take a good look at some recent disasters caused by a complete lack of Business Ethics (Oxymoron for sure) and its effect on thousands and thousands of people and how the business tries to say they aren't really responsible for it... I beter quit now!
Have a great day!
I completely agree with you, Ray. I don't mind playing by their rules when I'm in their rink. My only objection is that their "business rules of conduct" are referred to as "ethics." The two of them are not the same, and to claim that they are is, uh, kind of unethical.
Well,
the Vet has a cat appt. on THursday. But the cat seems to be "recovering"? He actually jumped up on the back of MOH's recliner, which for a week hasn't been able to do.
I got my laundry all done.
I is a *balmy* 56F near to 60F out there! NEAR to 60! It was nice to talk to the neighbor outside when I went to get the mail. I HOPE the storm adn the whole *28F* we are to get get tomorrow is the last of ITS kind. Hopefully.
I should get onto dinner now, though MOH does not have a particular time to be home tonight.
Dunno what to have: veal, stuffed peppers, beef, the lamb, or what?
Why do I get stupid emails about the "collapse of your US money/finances" That want like a gazillion of your $$ to buy a book to tell you so? I signed up for coupons, not that garbage! And don't tell me to "unsubscribe' it tells them someone is there and will sand you other things to buy! GRR
That is like the "rebate" to get on our NYSEG bill PHONE CALLS.."just give me XX information off your NYSEG BILL to get your "rebate"! CAN you say SCAM!! THEy want you to sign up for their supplier of Electicity/gas THEN you get a reabate, but with the info they want off your bill, They can "steal you away" from NYSEG. GRR
Well, best start some dinner I can always reheat for MOH.

Today I took apart an old Apple DuoDisk floppy drive. As the name implies it's two disk drives in one housing. These things were never great sellers as they were notorious for having problems. Mine is no exception. Sometimes it would work, sometimes it didn't. I examined it closely and found that most of the problems stemmed from corrosion. A major cleanup ensued. Now it worked right most of the time. After tightening some connections and making a few adjustments I got it working properly ... for now. I've never been a fan of the DuoDisk drive or the UniDisk drive. The shells break easily, eject mechanisms jam, they're noisy and in my opinion the plugs on them are clumsy and clunky and in the case of the DuoDisk break down easily.
Good Evening...

Barry! Good to see you. Hope you guys miss most of the stuff heading here to the Finger Lakes! Oh, Janie, put Bary's Prime rib diner on my tab will ya...
Current temperature here in the Finger Lakes is 43°F. Got all the way up to 52 by mid afternoon. Sun was out most of day and I got 19.75 kWh of electric from the roof. That is a good day for March. However.... in 24 hours it will be 19°F and there may be a foot or more of the heavy wet white STUFF on the ground. In 36 hours the temperature they say will be all of 8°F. That is when I have to drive my sister to the airport.... She sure knows how to pick 'em! Last night she asked me to call her at 8AM on Thursday to make sure she is up and at 'em and to see about her flight.
Got some foam cut, shaped, and glued in place on the area where the Blacksmith's Shop will be today. Also cut more 12" x 12" stock from the Balsa I bought yesterday. Cut the base lumber to size for the Trestle supports for the King Post bridge over the RR as well. Tomorrow I should have most of the day to hang out down there and get quite a bit done. I hope by tomorrow night to have the plaster cloth cut and put down over the foam. If it dries before I shut down for the night I may even get the first coat of dilute plaster added to the plaster cloth. I need to get going on the signage for the shop as well. Hopefully will have that complete before the weekend.
Hope you all have a great night. Prayers for all in need!

{groan} Yes, it is still 47F here, too! The "official High" was 53 at the airport high on the hill. SO we will go from that to a mere high of 17 on Thursday! We will have a few nights when we run H2O at the taps to prevent freezing again.
Did you hear, RAY? NYSEG is asking us to CONSERVE resources? "don't set your thermostat for any higher than 70F" they say..heck ours never goes above 65*!!! And turn your thermostat down to 66-67F when not home or at night? Ours goes down to 61F Then! I think we are already conserving, but we will conserve further, as we don't wnat to "run out" of "Natural gas"...HA!
Speaking of NYSeg, Oh sorry, Imentioend the SCAM phone calls we are getting! Once had a guy came around door to door "i just need to see your NYSEG bill to verify you have the right code!" BOGUS. AN ID {probably fake} from ANOTHER Elecetric Company{maybe Trying to steal us away?} I refused. I said "I don;t know you from Adam,a dn I am NOT goingt o show you anything form NYSEG.
Unfortuantely as customers of NYSEG we can get theses calls and doorbusters, I guess cause "they allow it" as they {NYSEG} have been "broken up" and any company can supply our electricity/ nat gas. Problem is, It is STILL about $65 per service month to HAVE NYSEG do the "delivery" of the stuff, and I think it is $55 for "delivery" of Nat gas! Plus what $15 just to have the service to the house??? I think if you are buying from them, they should throw those in for free! ah well,,
I am up a bit late, I know, but now I think I head off to bed after my emails...
By The Way.....what quiet life
Well I'm here looking through an old picture frameJust waiting for the perfect viewI hope something special will step in to my lifeAnother fine edition of youA pin-up done in shades of blueSometimes you find a yearning for the quiet lifeThe country air and all its joysBut badgers couldn't compensate at twice the priceFor just another night with the boys oh yeahAnd boys will be boys, will be boysThey say love's a gamble, hard to win, easy loseAnd while sun shines you'd better make haySo if life is your table and fate is the wheelThen let the chips fall where they mayIn modern times the modern wayAnd as I was drifting past the LoreleiI heard those slinky sirens wail - whoooSo look out sailor when you hear them croonYou'll never been the same again oh noTheir crazy music drives you insane - this waySo love, leave me. do what you will-Who knows what tomorrow might bring?Learn from your mistakes is my only adviceAnd stay cool is still the main ruleDon't play yourself for a foolToo much cheesecake too soonOld money's better than newNo mention in the latest TribuneAnd don't let this happen to you

Evenin' once again...
Janie... yep, need a refill for the decaf.
Tomorrow has been officially cancelled! There is good news and bad news..... The good news is the National Weather service has cancelled the Winter Storm Warning for this area. Yippy!!! The BAD news is they have now upgraded the warning to a full Blizzard Warning. Therefore, we are officially closed. Stay off the roads. Period! Most every school in central and western NY is closed tomorrow. I sure hope my son and DIL will not have to drive into work in this. Calling for a storm total of 10 to 19" with winds at 25 to 35mph and gusts over 50mph! I shall personally spent tomorrow in the train room ignoring the storm as much as possible!
Galaxy, my thermostat has been set to 70° all winter, but the thermometer often says 72 to 75°. And, I still have about a face cord of wood left so I am not worried about NYSEG! They are just trying to promote Fracking around here. Remember the discusion earlier about "Ethics"? My electric is not only from my own roof, but 100% of the amount I buy from NYSEG Solutions is from Wind, Solar, and non-invasive water power...
Batton down the hatches.... Here she come!
Nothing much went on today. I spent part of the day ironing the bugs out of an old Apple DuoDisk disk drive then later I made inventory tags for each of my operational Apple systems. I know you can't make heads or tails of it so I'll read it off.128k = Amount of memory.G65SC02 = Processor.X104 X3 = three 650-X104 drive controllers.CP/m = CP/m Coprocessor.J = 16-pin external joystick port.Disk ][ X5 = Five Disk II type disk drives.SD1 = One SD card reader/disk drive emulator.Well that's it for today. Hi Guys,
Well it looks like we are back to another snow storm here today and tonight. Its calm out now but you can see a bit of snow starting to fall, and too think it warmed up to 10c the last two days. Im sure by tonight or in the morning there will be a bit to shovel. Not too much railroading the last few weeks. Kind of ran out of steam when I worked on the railroad all December,January abd February.
Good morning. It's 52° with 81% humidity. The high will be 65° with a few clouds. A wind advisory is in effect until 7pm. 20mph sustained with gusts in excess of 30mph.Nothing on the schedule today. No telling what may come up though.
