Well you already know most of what I did today. Only things I can add are that I won three pinball games (fifty million or more points scored, one went over one hundred million) and I won another game of Starfleet1.

Weathers gonna be good tonight and tomorrow. Low 40's and clear tonight. Upper 60's and partly cloudy tomorrow. However it'll start raining again tomorrow night and it looks like it's going to rain all weekend and into Monday. YUCK!

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, a cup of hot decaf coffee would be great right now.

Galaxy, great to hear your cat is OK.

I have been working on a King Post Wood bridge that will be right next to the Blacksmiths shop.  The bridge will be a singe lane bridge going over gthe RR tracks.  Want to get that finished and installed ASAP and get the scenery done around the shnop.  Then get some photos of the final area.  I still have to make the signage for the shop, but that shouldn't be too difficult.

Have to drive to Canandaigua every day for the next two weeks to feed the cats.  That will cut into hobby time a bit.  I also have to get things together for the Division Meet on the 22nd. of the month.  Still have a lot to get done.

I think I m going to call it a night folks...  Prayers for all in need!

BEWARE THE IDES OF MARCH!*

*The soothsayer's warning to Julius Caesar, "Beware the Ides of March," has forever imbued that date with a sense of foreboding. But in Roman times the expression "Ides of March" did not necessarily evoke a dark mood—it was simply the standard way of saying "March 15." Surely such a fanciful expression must signify something more than merely another day of the year? Not so. Even in Shakespeare'stime, sixteen centuries later, audiences attending his play Julius Caesar wouldn't have blinked twice upon hearing the date called the Ides.

The term Ides comes from the earliest Roman calendar, which is said to have been devised by Romulus, the mythical founder of Rome. Whether it was Romulus or not, the inventor of this calendar had a penchant for complexity. The Roman calendar organized its months around three days, each of which served as a reference point for counting the other days:

  • Kalends (1st day of the month)
  • Nones (the 7th day in March, May, July, and October; the 5th in the other months)
  • Ides (the 15th day in March, May, July, and October; the 13th in the other months)

The remaining, unnamed days of the month were identified by counting backwards from the Kalends, Nones, or the Ides. For example, March 3 would be V Nones—5 days before the Nones (the Roman method of counting days was inclusive; in other words, the Nones would be counted as one of the 5 days).

Days in March

March 1: Kalends;
March 2: VI Nones;
March 3: V Nones;
March 4: IV Nones;
March 5: III Nones;
March 6: Pridie Nones (Latin for "on the day before");
March 7: Nones;
March 15: Ides

Used in the first Roman calendar as well as in the Julian calendar (established by Julius Caesar in 45 B.C.E.) the confusing system of Kalends, Nones, and Ides continued to be used to varying degrees throughout the Middle Ages and into the Renaissance.

So, the Ides of March is just one of a dozen Ides that occur every month of the year. Kalends, the word from which calendar is derived, is another exotic-sounding term with a mundane meaning. Kalendrium means account book in Latin: Kalend, the first of the month, was in Roman times as it is now, the date on which bills are due.

Good morning. It's 40° with 97° humidity. The high will be 65° with some clouds.

As I said it's 40° according to the weather service. One of my neighbors has already told me it got much colder than that on the lake side of her home, it was 31°. I believe that as there's ice on my vans windshield.

Today I feel like crap! My blood sugar last night was 135 so I took my usual 100 unit injection to get it down. Haven't had anything to eat since yesterday afternoon after I got home or drink with the exception of water. Blood sugar should have been down this morning. Wrong! Checked it this morning and it's 296! WTH! Also my temp is up. 100.6 when I checked it a little while ago. My concentration is off and I'm having trouble focusing on any one thing. Just getting this post written is taking a long time. I'm keeping spell check very busy! I think I'll go back to bed. First a shot to try getting this level down.

Fri. 77 Sat. 85 Sun. 90
I have more dental problems and expense. 2 1/4 hours in the dentist chair today and $650 on top of previous $500 on the same tooth plus  another $350 recently. And another tooth also needs a bunch of expensive work.

Going to the dentist never ends with me.

I can sympathize, empathize and commiserate with you!

I have an upper partial, a lower partial, and every other natural tooth left has had dental work on it.

If it weren't for the insurance, {which has now changed so may costs us more} I'd not have any of it and would be a half toothless man!

No matter how good I take care of them, they deteriorate, just like my mother's and her mother's.

ANd I had braces when I was a teen to be sure they were straight, I;d take some crookedness instead if I could have great teeth!

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and the breakfast pile please. Thanks.

Mostly sunny, with a high near 61.

Space aliens took the plane? Hm. Whadda ya know.

Mr B- I’m not following the Malaysian plane story because of the very same reasons I don’t watch the news anymore. The news media. Their job is to report the news, not make it. In their rush to be the first and most reliable, they end up confusing everything with speculation and basically guesses. All just so they can say, hopefully, that's what we thought. That's what we said earlier. You heard it here first. I don’t want to sit there for  2 hours listening to “Breaking News” only to listen to (insert name of reporter here) and some expert try and figure out what is that fuzzy dot and what just may have happened based on something in the past. I can listen to that from guys at the bar. Sometimes I wish I had a direct line to the reporter. I’d ask “do you know what that is for sure? Has anyone in the know said what it is for sure?....No? Then shut up.”

Embarrassed Ooops. Sorry. Off the SoapBox now.

Not sure what all today will bring othern w*rk tonight of course. I do have to take the Easter Bunny costume into the dry cleaners for the Foundation. Kinda looking forward to that. When I drop it off I’m gonna say when you’re done (and in a cheap Nicholas Cage effort at a southern drawl) “could you please put the bunny back in the box.”  Laugh

Yuck, dental work.  The last 2 "big" tooth things have been extractions, lower jaw teeth way to the back.  Both had crowns, but the teeth cracked and could not be saved.  As Dentist Diane told me, I don't even miss them.

Cold last night, hopefully the last single-digit night of the season.  This will be another ski weekend, so I've got my bag in the car and will drive directly to Sunday River after work.  It's "our" week at the mountain, so Penny is staying up most of the week, hence we need to take 2 separate cars.  Believe me, there is nothing about downhill skiing that's cheap.

I love skiing, but it's hard to get anything done on the trains when I spend all weekend sliding down a mountain.  I've got a lot of pent-up modeling desire right now.

Good morning, Diners! ......

Who has model railroading plans for the weekend? I still have several more freight cars to weather. I would like to do more work on the layout extension I began last year. I have a Tsusami decoder at the manufacturer for repair because it has a short circuit. It's time for more wheel cleaning. Much to do!

Perhaps some of you will start a new model railroad project this weekend, and let us know about it later.

Regarding dentists. I sympathize with Mr. B, V8 Dennis, and others here. I went to the dentist yesterday to have a problem tooth looked at. I will be getting another crown. I wonder if I will have any real teeth left.

Todd and Mr. B .... Regarding the "News" media and other sourcse of "information". It pays to be a skeptic because if it is reported in the "news" it must be erroneous. I won't give any examples so Vinnie is not upset if I get into a hot button, off limits topic. Suffice it to say, anybody who cares to know my personal views on off limits topics can contact me directly.

Regarding the missing 777, I am once again reminded I dislike flying. I was awkened by an explosion when I was in high school. It was an airliner crashing, and all people on board were killed. For the rest of my life, I think of what I saw, each time I fly. So, I just do not care to fly.

That said, we will be flying to AZ at the end of next month. I'll bite my finger nails all the way.

Happy Model Railroading!

The vet called, the cat "is ready to come home"...to put it lightly. Hiss snarl snarl hiss... We have to wait for MOH to get out of work though, as MOH has the credit card to pay the vet, mine are hot right now. I told the vet I could pick the cat up and MOh stop by to pay later, but he was having none of that, so he will have to put up with the cat from hell, hiss snarl snarl hiss, until we get there then! Then once home, I am sure the cat will hide and shun us for taking him there!

DId the banking/credit unioning today already. that about it for me, and NOH will be hoem aroudn noon 1 pm then we gfo to teh vets.

SO I will have find some trouble to get into in the meantime.

I heard on the radio that California is the only state in the nation that has over $4. a gallon gasoline.

Oh really? since when did Hawaii get below $4/gal??

I just am mentioning what I pay, and that Hawaii is usually higher than California. Hawaii's gas has to be "boated in to the islands", it is not shipped in pipelines. It was over $4 years ago when I was there too, usually about a whole $1.00 more than the mainland's hihgest prices {usually in California}.

Google earth and you will see {if you find gas stations} the prices are {maybe were} well over $4.

California may be the only "lower 48" to be over $4/gal, and here in NY we are at about $3.65 and rising. SOon to be rising "as they change over to summer blends" which will be "more expensive" as the "demand will rise".

Gee, and I buy my gas at Kwik and Full {Kwikfill}, where it is "all North American Crude oil -gas made in America" At that $3.65 price.{I think that is what I last paid}.

This could be a "flame war topic", so we'd best watch it!

harumph!

Make it a great day!

Good Afternoon!

Our weather is back to normal. No more sunshine, a drizzle of rain and temps at 5°C. Tomorrow will see a further drop in temperature, a lot of r*in heading towards us - remnants of that blizzard in the Northeast?

Went to the local DIY place to have a check on some of the materials I need to get started on the benchwork. Well, I was in for a big and unpleasant surprise! The plywood I usually work with has gone up in price by 60%, which means the cost for my benchwork jumped up to $ 200! No way, I am going to pay that! I´ll be using MDF instead and actually save money over my initial calculation!

Good news of the day is that the bloke finally paid the money he owed me. I will send out my order of track tomorrow!

Galaxy - I wish I could by gas for the price they charge you on the islands! Make it a little more than double that to get the German price. It´s gone up again, as those (expletive, deleted) speculators are expecting a "shortage" following the ongoing Crimean crisis. No more to that, I see Vinnie getting his baseball bat...

Have a splendid day!

Mornin' everyone,

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of buttermilk pancakes with real NYS maple syrup, a couple sausage links, and lots of Seneca Roast Dark roast Coffee in my R&GV RR Mug.

Speaking of the R&GV RR, I just signed up a couple days ago for this years Rules Class.  I may attened the Brake class i the afternoon as well just for the heck of it.  I don't hear well enough to do anything more than  be car host and possibly brakeman, but I would get a bit more knowledge of the Westinghouse Brakes on our old equipment.  Might be fun.

Today is listed as "much warmer than yesterday" by thw eather channel... Laugh  Yep, currently 30°F with an afternoon high around 48°F.  Nope, not Spring just yet as the themps will go back dow to single digits at least once more according to the forecast for the next few days.  Probably a good thing as we really don't need all the sn*w we got melting all at once....

I have a meeting at lunch time with the other commissioner for Pack/Troop1 (Handicaped units) and the District Executive to discuss a long list of items that concern the units.  All but one is a positive discussion.....  The other is about the "Nastygram" their treasurer recieved from a Field Director about an unpaid bill.  After the meeting I will be heading to Canandaigua to feed and take care of my sister's cats.  Then I need to spend some $$$ at the grocery store as I am out of a lot of necessaties...

I'm going to disappear into the basement for a while and get a bit more done on my projects.

Later!

As for dentsts, I am amazed at the technology that is available.  I needed a crown so I went to the dentist last Monday.  The whole thing, start to finish, took less than two hours.  After grinding the existing tooth down, he used a camera to film the inside of my mouth.  The computer then created a 3-D model of the stub and the surounding teeth, and a model of the crown.  He used the CAD software to fine tune the crown, put a small block of porcelean in the machine, and 13 minutes later my crown was ready.  A little more fine tuning, a little polishing, some adhesive, and blam, it's all done and I am on my way home.  Amazing.

I got some sleep and I feel a bit better. However my blood sugar has only gone down to 204. Seems my insulin resistance is really being resistant! Fever is still low grade.

Blood sugar is down to 186. Still high but a lot better than 296. I'm feeling somewhat better.

Got a package from Germany today. Inside were two fifty foot Accurail boxcars. One is a Missouri Pacific with subtle weathering. It's not shiny gloss but it doesn't have much rust either. The other is a Rail-box boxcar with a medium weathering job. Plenty of dirt and surface rust without being a rust bucket.

Well

We brought home the puddy. He is SO happy to be home! He is sticking tgo us like glue, and is acting like "whatever I did for you to put me there, I won't do it again!"

He ravished a 1/4 can of SHeba Pate. I gave him half a can with a pain pil in it and he ravished half the plate. SInce I mashed the pill into it, it seems he should have had some of it anyway.

He also got up on the back of the recliner, which he hasn't done in 2 weeks! Now if he will snuggle again on the bed...the very last time he tried he got caught adn could not "make it".

He is half shaved, all the Knots were shaved off, but not the rest of his furs. Maybre the best as it is still cold.

Speaking of cold, the forecast for April  here in the NE of the USA is to be about 10-20 Degrees cooler than "normal historical average". Even the last week, when in the Historical average of the "early to mid 60's" normally, will only be about 50s!!

SO a chilly start to the year. They also say that this summer could be drier and hotter "than normal".

Bummer.

Dinner was Beef Teri-yucky, corn and cheesy hashbrowns.

Well, MOH needs the computer tto do "homework on".

RideOnRoad I am getting a crown too, but the old way where they take impressions. Cost 500 for root canal and 650 for the crown and prepration. How much was yours with the new way?

I have pretty decent dental insurance fom work, the dentist is a friend of a friend, so my out-of-pocket for the crown (no root canal this time) was only $325.

Gidday Chloe, a corn beef and mustard pickle sandwich with a large cold Beer please. Well I’m currently w**king away from home, my only access to the computer being for work purposes only, so have lost track of the goings on here in the Diner, so instead of waiting for the sign off  I’ll get in early......
Thoughts and Best Wishes to All that need them.
I’ve been w**king down at Napier in the Hawke’s Bay,
the port is busy mainly loading out logs which are delivered direct by logging trucks from the surrounding forests but there is generally some switching action going on but unfortunately when I’m earning my keep,  so no photos, sorry.
The other evening when I got back to my lodgings there was a cruise liner just leaving port, sort of dwarves even the big freighters. Hawke’s Bay is also New Zealand’s oldest wine growing area with some internationally recognised wines,
and along with Napier’s Art Deco architecture, because the 1931 earthquake, seems to attract the cruise ships.
My contract ............................
........has been extended for another 2 weeks, and although I have spent quite a bit of the time over the years away from home, with my daughter just starting university, it’s the first time in 21 years that my wife has been at home on her own, so it is good to get home on the weekends.Big Smile
Currently Tropical Cyclone Luci is giving the northern part of the North Island a bit of a bashing, power cuts etc,  though much to the weather guessers disgust not as bad as they had predicted, though here at home we are currently getting some much needed light steady rain, and 66F.
Time to stop wittering on,
Cheers, the Bear.

BEWARE THE IDES OF MARCH!

The Ides of March (Latin:Idus Martii or Idus Martiae) is a day on the Roman Calendar that corresponds to 15 March. It was marked by several Religious observances, and became notorious as the date of the assassination of Julius Caesar in 44 BC. The death of Caesar made the Ides of March a turning point in Roman history, as one of the events that marked the transition from the historical period known as the Roman Republic to the Roman Empire.

Although March{Martius} was the third month of the Julian calendar, in the oldest Roman calendar it was the first month of the year. The holidays observed by the Romans from the first through the Ides often reflect their origin as new year celebrations.

My crown was to cost around $650-700 {the old fashioned way}, but my then insurance covered it all, I don't know what the new insurance covers YET, if like the other health insuarnce MOH has {I am spousal on  the dental}, then we may have a HUGE deductible!.

I also belong to a clinic that happens to be an off shoot of the hospital.

Check your area for clinics that may reduce the cost for you, if need be.

Also check for "free dental days" at local dentists...they may not do a crown though...It is usually in and out in rapid succession. They usually only do restorations.

Somone, supposedly  in my area, is advertising dentures in one day for  and crowns "complete" for about $300-$500. but I have only seen/heard the commercial once. THEY might use the computer/camera method.

I am going to ask about the camera system for the clinic next time.....They did upgrade to the digital/computerized xrays.

Have a great day...

Good Morning!

A miserable day - at least when it comes to the weather outside. Lots of Umbrella and Storm.

I nam all itchy to get started on that layout, but no helping hand around. The benchwork requires a considerable amount of sawing, which I just can´t do at home, if I want to stay on friendly terms with Petra. Do I miss a workshop! Well, I have waited that long, so a few more days or even weeks don´t matter much. I will send out my order of track today, which will also take two weeks until it arrives.

Jeff - good to see that the package finally has arrived. I was worried that it may have gotten lost somewhere over the Big Pond. Took quite some time to reach your place, although it hit Ft. Worth/Dallas airport only two days after I posted it. It took two weeks to clear customs...

Well, I better get started with my day. There is only a short HD list to work down, but as there is a bit of a mess coming up when I start construction of my layout, I´d better start to please Petra.

Prayers for Johnboy, Flip and all others requiring our thoughts and best wishes!

Have a good one!

Edit: Egad, I got TOPS! Janie, put everything on my tab, even those Barry-sized meals!

Good Morning!!!

Coffe and an order of Biscuits and gravy with a couple scrambled eggs tossed on top please. Oh and scrambled soft. What? Yes, use milk please. That’s the way I make them. Seems like more egg and adds a texture I like. Just like Momma used to make. Thanks.

Well Garry, do I have plans for trains today? I’m reeeally wanting to get in that trainroom in spite of the weather being such I reeeeally should be doing the Spring cleanup outside. First thing is take down the Christmas lights outsideWhistling. But…alas, I have to lay the new floor up to the elevator. Brenda ripped up the old tile that was coming up and bought laminated flooring so…that’s my weekend. Have to do it then cause she needs to be up and running computer-wise Monday. Bright side is, I’ll be about 100 yards from the UP main. Bad news is…the bins are in the way. Kinda like looking at something through a very large picket fence.

Been seeing a couple old beat up Cotton belt Geeps (you know me and loco models, but if I were to say, I’d guess they’d be maybe 40 somethings). First saw them I thought they were being taken somewhere but I’ve seen them, or at least I assume it’s the same two, several times now over a month or so. Nope, not all going the same direction. Sometimes north, sometimes south. I figure they were recently dug out and haven’t been painted yet (you’d think after all this time…I guess even the big guys have “round to it’s”). From the distance I see them when I do, I can’t tell if any patching or UP letters anywhere. Just the big ol’ faded Cotton Belt, though I’m sure they do.

Anyway, I figure this about THAT. See I’ve been rethinking my “theme” if you will in Toddland (of which I’m king) for a while now. The T&P is just not cutting it for various reasons, but I have enough T&P things the "corporation" (my wallet) really doesn’t want to change for financial reasons. Maybe that’s some of the reason for the big slowdown on construction tooHmm. HOWEveeeer. The St Louis Southwestern could solve all those problems……I think those two old Geeps are a sign.

Welp, best get going.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Must have been taking extra time to make sure the metal wheels didn't constitute a threat of some kind. I tell you, some of these Homeland Security rules that are in place can drive you to drink. In fact I think I'll have a stiff drink now. One Tobasco lemonade please and don't spare the Tobasco.

Good morning. It's 58° with 96% humidity. The high will be 70°. It will be cloudy with rain.

Blood sugar is down this morning. It's reading at 69. Gotta get that up. Fever is down to 99.

The fastener tape I ordered from Scotch came in yesterday. I've already tested it. They lock together just like headlock fasteners and should keep the computers cover on quite nicely. Velcro wishes it could hold as much as this stuff does. I'll be putting it on the computer today.

Other than that I have nothing planned except to get some rest. I'm still feeling a bit punchy from yesterday. At least I can think straight today.

Me again,

I feel a little sleepy after that lunch we had. Petra´s interpretation of a German hotdog - bratwurst in a roll! Spiced it up with hot mustard and salsa sauce - yummy!

Jeff - you are right, it must have been the extra metal wheelsets I included without declaring them. After all, the customs people probably have never seen such a URO - that´s an unidentified Railroad object - in their lives before Smile, Wink & Grin

Kind of reminds me of an incident I experienced about 35 years ago, during my student days. While on a field trip to Switzerland, my buddies and I went to a hobby shop in Switzerland and bought a few hard to get items, just a couple of HOn3 switches and a few lengths of flex track, plus a Lima loco. All of these items were not available in Germany in those days. As we left Switzerland by train, the customs inspector asked as whether we had anything to declare. As the total amount exceeded the limit of free import, we rightfully answered, telling him what we had bought. OK, we did not mention it was HOn3 stuff, but seeing his face was worth a lot! He thought we took the mickey out of him and let us pass without paying the charges Laugh

My order of track has been sent out - I am beyond the point of return with that layout now. Feels good!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have the #2 special, eggs over easy, bacon, homefries, and a double order of sour dough toast with real butter to go along with some Seneca Lake dark roast coffee, please.

Overcast and gloomy this morning in the Finger Lakes.  have a had the sun pop thrtough 2 or three times, but it doesn'r stay long.  The sn*w has finally melted off the roof from the warm temps out there for the lasy 24 hours.  yep has stayed above freezing for an entire day....  I did clear the solar panels of the foot of sn*w they had built up during the day yesterday so it was only covered in places I couldn't reach with the roof rake.  Made all of .7 kWh yesterday even in bright sunshine...  That is better than Wednesday and Thursday which amounted to nothing at all. Whistling

I need to head out to the store as my sister left me about 1/4 small bag of kittie litter for her cats.......  Speaking of cats... Galaxy, glad to hear your kittie is OK.

I just checked out a news release from a TV Station in Rochester...  Big, big news flash!  There is a police car on East Ave. in the town of Pittsford this morning stopped behind a car!!!  Someone may have done something to someone and it may involve driving a car under the influence of something or maybe something else!!!  We have a news crew on the scene and will bring you more information as soon as it becomes available!!!  But, remember, you heard it first here at NEWS ----  It gets stupider and stupider. SighBang Head

Later!

Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO

We'll get there sooner or later!

As much as I spent in Germany? That was nine years I believe.

Well I got the new Scotch fasteners in the computer case and they work fine. The gap between the case and the lid was too big for the tape to be laid flat. So I put down a small piece (about 5/16") then put a 2.5" piece over that. The tapes adhesive is very good but I've never been one to trust any adhesive long term with the humidity we have here. So I put two 4/40 screws in each of the long pieces. The photos below will give you a better idea of what I'm talking about.

Some day I'm going to type up my entire loco and rolling stock roster on one of these antiques. If I can find a compatible printer I could print it as well.
