Hello all!
Nice digs,,,,,I take it we are not in How-are-ya anymore, but where we going??
Flo, got any oatmeal hot, with cinnimon? Got a scratchy throat, maybe the warmth will help.
Waiting under gray skies for the next round of snow, starting tonight and thru tomorrow, the guessers are saying 6-12 inches for us I'm really getting tired of this!
Kalmbach did just pay me for an article they purchased,,,,,maybe I'll deposit that at the ATM and go to the LHS. Or I could work on several "visiting" projects I have here, Or I could work on some of my own, Or I could just enjoy the warmth of the woodstove & watch TV (Nascar later today). Decisions decisions, what to do. Oh No! I hear the vaccum running upstairs, SWMBO is in a cleaning mood, better get busy doing something!!
Gotta roll, prayers for the sick, whirled peas, and have a nice day!

Curt - I know how you feel. When I first went on the job, I didn't want to take pass days or vacation. But about 5 or 6 years before I retired, I let my certifications expire and got off the amulance and back onto the trucks. Just got really tired of dealing with people and as you stated, all their drama.
We went railfanning yesterday, and had a busy and interesting time. Caught 11 trains in 2 hours. 4 intermodals, 4 mixed freight and 2 crude oil unit trains. One had a power move with 10 engines. It included this one with a spray can patch and number boards.
I've never had any problems while railfanning, although I suppose its bound to happen sooner or later. In fact, I've met some nice people, some who were railfanning and others who weren't. Yesterday while I was taking photos of the power move, a trailer truck came down the road, but the driver must have seen me and stopped his rig short so as not to block my view. He sat there for 3 or 4 minutes. This is about the 3rd or 4th time this has happened, but it's been people in cars before. You can't convince me there aren't any nice people left out there.
It's been snowing all morning here. Suppose to get 4 to 6 inches by Monday. I'll wait until it accumulates more before getting the snow blower out. It's been a back saver this year. This stuff has just been relentless. Couple of inches, melt, couple more inches, and so on. Cutting the grass will seem like a snap, unless it keeps snowing right thru until next winter.

OK, Vinnie, hold it - I was not going to ... BANG ... ouch
Good morning, all,
Ham and cheese omelet sounds good right about now.
Church got cancelled due to sleet and freezing rain overnight and inadaquate road clearing, so I get to put the keyboard rig away without using it this week. Now it's starting to snow, 6" by morning. I'm finally recovering from two weeks of a cold and sinus infection, ready to do something productive tomorrow. Got an interview & audition for a volunteer radio job this week...reading to the visually impaired on the air.
Have a splendid week!

Good morning. It's a balmy 65° with 100% humidity and patchy fog. Very cloudy today with a small chance of rain and a high of 75°. with a .Not much on the schedule today. I might do a bit of work on the layout or at least on the small part that I can see.I'm pretty tired today. Between my back and the burglar alarm the neighbors call their dog I got between two and three hours of sleep.Looks like it's gonna be on the wet side tonight. Weather guessers are hootin' and hollerin' about a big front coming from the west.

Good Morning Gang!
Pretty quiet at my house today. The wife is still sleeping?? So my dog and I are hiding out in my office/project room. I decided to take a break from my buddys Sunday morning layout visit, also have not been upstairs to my layout but I have been working on a Kato SD90/43 MAC that I bought myself for Christmas... I have a few Kato loco's and I really like them but putting all the detail parts on is a real challange for me. I really admire those of you who can make or rebuild or scratch build this stuff. Most people have no idea how many skills this Hobby of ours takes.

Jeffrey: I could handle the warmth you guys have, but the humidity...WHEW! My damaged asthmatic lungs cannot breathe in and sort out moisture from the air! It is one reason I'm not liking Florida! {Oh and the cehwing gum reference: you give someone gum and tell them is most important part to chew it thouroughly so they stay out of your way while you fix/repair something, Now Chew good and thorough!}
Frank with the Stripes: Yeah, we gotta watch WHAT parts of a persons MRRing we like....can't say we like his caboose here!, Nor can we say here in the dienr that we like waitstaff Daisy's or Chloe's, or Zoe's, they'll slap us!!!!

Been thinking about how to weather my caboose (). I still have a set of owdered pigment colors which I could use for that. If I "rub" the sides with a whitish pigments, it would not only take the gloss away, but also "bleach" the oxide red color, making the sides look as if they had been subjected to sun. A light dusting with a darker color would highlight all the creaks and crevices, making them look as if a lot of ra*n did work on them. The trucks could do with some rust, as well as the brake detail and the truss rods. But how about the roof and the underbody? I would like to "lighten" the dark black of the roof, but a a streak down the middle of it, simulating soot and cinders doing a job. The underbody could use some mud and grime.
Will that work? I might give it a try. If I fail, I can still wash it down...
Afternoon All,
Taking a break from working on the layout.
I recieved a email from Lee about 2months ago (I believe). He has had some house issues and his computer for some reason will not connect to this site. Because of other issues nothing new has happened on his layout.
Just talked to Phil and he is doing a little better but still has little energy.
Ulrich- What I do is mask off the windows and spray the car with Valspar Flat Clear finish. After it is dry, I use AIM powders for weathering. After that another flat finish spray for the car to lock on the powders.
Karl- Congrats on the article.
Hope everyone has a good week and prayers for those in need.

whew! my "ugly chore" is done..sorta. Washed the rugs in the bath, scrubbed the floor on my hands and knees, mopped it up, scrubbee the litter box, the everthing, garbage cans and all, then put everything back. Polished like new. New if the floor doesn't come up.
I have Appalachian hillbilly roots, so i used duct tape {the cheap imitation} to seal down the vinyl that is coming up for now. Just like a good redneck hillbilly would. It needs to be replaced {the flooring that is}, but the wood floor under it is arched up, cracked and split too. there is a crown in the floor and it causes the tiles to crack {the vinyl kind, the ceramics would not last either, at least the vinyl ones have some flex to them}. Maybe the crown woll go waway when the trailer is re-leveled again?
I pooped or petered out when it came to doing the counters, to srub them clean. That i'll do tomorow Scrubbed by hand on hands and knees, is the only way I know they are clean. The swiffer is a quick lick-and-a-promise do-er, but it doesn't clean in the crevices well, and leaves streaks. SO on my hands and knees I do it periodically like once a month. I want it CLEAN when I am done.
Then I washed hte washing machine, that stuff really does the trick, but STINKS up the house doing it!
Now if I could train the cat to not track litter everywhere!
I ma getting to the point I think of hiring a maid once a month maybe. SHe/he can do the hard stuff for a day's work. WISH we had the $$!!!
Well,I go off to cook and slave over dinner... no rest for the weary!
Dinner will be Beeves {plural fo beef for 2 of them}, and smashed taters or noodles, and broccoli.
Afternoon folks!
Chloe, just a ciup of hot choclate to tide me over to dinner time. Thank you Ma'am.
Been a long day here. Church was packed this morning as the congregation was hearing and then discussing and finally voting on calling a new pastor for the church. I got down to church at my usual time and instead of there being 4 or 5 cars in the overflow parking where I park, I managed to get thee last open spot! I sat with my DIL and grandkids. Part way through the service the guy running sound came running over too me to get my help. The new CD recorder crapped out and did the exact same thing the old one was doing. Threw an error and stopped recording.... So, Now at least we know it wasn't the CD burner but something else, to be determined. After the service was a meeting of the congregation to ask questions and comment on the candidate. One item was a question on a "Hot topic" so I will not discuss the topic here, The question had not been asked of the candidate during interviews so the interm pastor went out and asked him. His answer resulted in 1/3rd of the congregation voting against "Calling" him to be our pastor. Since the vote was still enough "Yes" to have the congregation call him he was asked if he wanted to accept or decline the call. He declined. I think he made the right decision both for himself and our church. So the search committee was thanked for their work and a new search committee will be formed. We are now back at square 1....
I got home half way through the afternoon and got the wood stove fired up and have been busying myself with odds and ends of things that I should have finished last week or earlier. I may actually make it down to the train room later, after dinner.
Galaxy, you have been a ball of fire getting all the laborious w*rk done around your place!!! I agree that releveling your trailer may well fix the floor problem for you. I would get that done and then see what needs to be done after that.
It was a fitting gray, cloudy, cold day today here in the Finger Lakes..... Temperature got all the way up to 23°F, is now 15°F, and is on its way down to 6°F tonight. Today has been warmer than tomorrow will be.
Catch you all later!

Evening guys
Been busy the past week and haven't been able to stop in.
I did get some work done on some trains. I got 2 GP9s together, one has a Tsunami with a sort-of haribrained install. The other with a DH163L0. I got the Tsunami equipped one to crawl at speed step 1, but couldn't figure out how to do it with a DH163L0. I dd get them speed matched, but sacrified the Tsunami's crawl for it. Both GP9s have working beacons now, I had issues on the DH163 one because my usual 1k resistors wouldn't light the bulbs I pulled out of my SD40-2s. I tried 820 and it was really dim. 540 was bright, but they burned out afer about 20 minutes. I eventually just pulled the ones out of my RS3 and used them cause they worked well with a 1k reistor. I'll put LEDs in that RS3 and add a beacon when I get some more.
As for that job, I didn't get it cause of "lack of experience". However the interview people said they liked me and wished I could have gotten the job.
Vincent
Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
Today I changed out the couplers on one of the GP7's. They were both bent/twisted when the tree hit my trailer. Getting old Kadee #5's off was easy. Putting the new Kadee #118's, that was a bit harder. Nothing to do with the couplers at all. It's was the confounding small screws Bachmann uses. With their small size and next to no feeling in my hands a ten minute job took almost forty-five minutes. But I finally got it done. Want to know what a fun thought I had was? I have two new Bachmann geeps on the way here. A GP7 and a GP9, and they'll both need Kadee couplers. Oh joy.Well there was some outdoors work done today. David and I got some work done on the inside of the wall. Rather he did most of it. I held the outer wall back and handed him tools and hardware. He put in a few metal braces that are anchored to the studs and the inside wall. It took longer than I thought it would but it would've taken much longer if I was doing it. No roof work yet. the weather started turning nasty so we had to call it a day.Speaking of the weather it's still nasty as I's typing this. I can hear the rain pouring down on the roof. Good news is I haven't spotted any leaks. But the nights young. No computer news today. It's there sitting idle and that's all I'll say about that.Well I can hear another nasty thunder boomer coming from the west so it's time I call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
Good Morning!
Today is the day! Showdown at the OK Corral! We´ll be heading to THAT office in a few moments and demand our rights! LAst chance for them! If they fail, I´ll have a meeting with a lawyer set up later in the day!
Vincent - lack of experience? Sounds like a bad excuse to me. They knew you are a young fellow, why did they set up the interview first place?
Well, I must be getting ready - CU all later!
Have a good one!
Packer As for that job, I didn't get it cause of "lack of experience". However the interview people said they liked me and wished I could have gotten the job.
Welcome to the REAL world! Being young and starting out, You have just encountered the most lame excuse for not giving a job to someone who might deserve it: the "'no experience' job clause".
They will use it again, when you are 55 y/o and looking for a second career change, because you have "met your limit" at your first career {age, or 25 years working history}. Only at 55, it will be because you are "old", too.
I always wondered WHAt "experience" Qualified someone to "insert tab A into slot B or nut A onto bolt 2" repetitively for 25 years of life in the manufacturing field, for instance???
ah, well, something will hopefully turn up for you!! Its just that your first job may not be your "dream job".
Here is the main thing: they want to see you are REALIABLE, show up repeatedly for work ON TIME, that you know what you are doing and are good at it, don't give any lip, and don't "buck the system" as a young'un! A "previous experience" job will tell them that.
SOunds pessimistic for me who usually is optimistic? well, it wears you down after awhile-that is a lifetime of seeing it... and is soooo truthfull.
Here is the optimist: you WILL get a job that will make you "pay your dues", THEN, after some experince, you will get a "dream job", you just have to keep at it!
How about interning? can you? That may help, seek out summer internships or whatever your "gofer" job may be in your field. {you "go fer" this, "go fer" that} Or the "clean up jobs".

Changed the bank checking account to the "over 50 group" with interest. easy as pie. Done. now to earn a few pennies literally a month! Wne to the CU too. had to,.
BOY! there was a "Run at the back/cu!" People were taking money out in fistfulls, I hope it is just "emeregency" money and not some run I don't know about. Busy they were,!
Got other stuff financial wise done. I love it. GOtta love it. MOH is the tpe who wants to "know the bills are paid" and that "something went to savings if we can" and thats it, so I have the saddled responsibility to do it. No biggy I like it, jsut wish we had more finances to deal with!
Good Afternoon!
Here is the news about the visit to THAT office: Paperwork supposedly completed, funds transfered as per today. Seeing is believing - I will check my account on Wednesday latest. Should the money be in, fine, no harm done, as my landlord agreed to give me an extra 14 days for the rent. If the money is not on my account, well, then it´ll be "cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war"!
TMarshWell, unlike Ulrich, I look for ways to keep my caboose clean ...
I decided to keep my caboose clean - for the time being. All weathering will be done when building the layout is on its way.
I am dang tired today, although I took a nap. Need more rest!
Good Morning All,
Ulrich, I would keep Your End of Train device on wheels, void of weathering also. Maybe a dull coat. But that's me.
I won't go into the cleaning part, don't want to get banned from the Diner.

Good day all!
Soup & grilled cheese looks good today!
5 1/2 inches of the white fluffy stuff to deal with today, then single digit temps tonight,,,,brrr. Driveway is clear now, soon I'll be off at the Post Office to drop off packages going out to lucky eBay winners. Gotta take em myself though. Thanks guys for the congrats on the article! Hope to see it in print soon myself. Even though its my 9th article (3rd for MR, plus 5 for RMC and 1 for Scale Rails), I still have trouble waiting !!
Here's a sneak peek,,,,this used to be a 3 bay Genesis hopper!

Zoe, I'll have the #2 special this morning, over easy on the eggs, bacon, home fries (yes, bring the hot sauce and the ketchup) and double order of the sourdought toast. Will also need a constant supply of Seneca Lake Dark Roast Organic, Fair Traded Coffee to keep my R&GV RR mug filled. Thank You Ma'am!
Sun is trying to peek out from behind the clouds that will haunt the Finger Lakes ll day today. Hopefully it will melt off the dusting of white stuff that fell on the solar panels last night and clean then off so i can make a few kWh of electric today. Currently 8°F outside the door. Brrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! High today could get all the way up to 15°F. Whoopie! Low tonight will be 0°F once again. Glad I still ahve about 1.5 face cord of wood for the stove...
I need to get some documents done for the NMRA Meet for our newsletter, Go down to the Organic Food Store for more "Seneca Lake Dark Roast" coffee and a couple other things I buy there, go to the grocery store to spend some $$$ and pick up needed supplies. One of these days I need to actually clean house. The place is giving me the creepy crawlies and that means it is filthy around here. haven't run the vacume in over a month.... that should tell you something.
Todd, yes, it was for the good of the church that he didn't accept the call. Actually almost all the congregation would be opposed to his take on THAT issue... I'll just say that we are a very liberal church and leave it at that. Sad thing is I know of a couple that wants to be married by our former pastor and have it be done in our church (one is a member and the other is not). The girl from our church is marrying the grandson of one of my best friends who is a member of the MLK committee. She stopped over yesterday to pick up a form to proof for the committee and was very saddened when I told what happened at my church yesterday. Our former pastor can't do anything in the church (building) until we have a new pastor (Presbyterian Rules). Then he has been given permission to assume the title of Pastor Emeritus that will give him permission to attend and do services on occasion in the building and for our congregation. That in itself is a rarity in the denomination. OK, 'nuff said about the subject!
I better get myself moving!
I took another baby step on my first non-Unitrack layout--I laid the roadbed. It may not seem like much, but it is for a novice like me.
On a separate topic, I think I may be done with Firefox. For the last week or so it has been crashing a couple times a day. Trying Chrome now.

Richard - looks like an excellent start to me!
Happy March, everyone. Pretty spiffy new place, I must say. We were skiing in Maine over the weekend, so it's my first time here.
Yes. It was cold. It was right at the edge of being too cold to ski, but we did it anyway. Sitting on the lift, one little girl was asked how she was. "Quietly cold" was her reply. The ski helmet is one of the better inventions. Not only does it keep your head a bit safer, it also keeps it a lot warmer. I would say it lets me ski in relative comfort 10 degrees F colder than I could with a wool hat. The snow, incidentally, was very good and the temperatures kept the crowds to a minimum on the slopes. But, it was hard to find a seat in the lodge.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Here is the end goal.
Good afternoon all,
71F with a nice breeze here in Sebring. Galaxy at the shop they call the spilling the coffee trail and use it to track me down.
Race weekend went well after a rocky start. Took all day Thursday to get the motor changed in the 23 after the spare arrived late Weds from Ct. on our truck. Looked ok after practice though we only got two laps in. Coil wire fell off and stopped the car on track in first Qualification but I fixed that for Saturday. In the mean time the normally bulletproof Audi R-8 LMP1 broke a spindle (Sebring is an old air corp training facility and all really old rough concrete). The spares were still out getting rebuilt (long story there) so we were able to borrow one from another car that is kept in Vero Beach. Got it out for the night enduro and finished 2nd so not too bad.
Saturday went better. We qualified 2nd in class 4th overall with the Lotus23 and 3rd with the Audi. Our other car a Pescarolo LMP1 was on pole in the same group as the Audi but that is a whole seperate crew (the one my son works with). We finished on the podium in our sprint race with the 23 and (3rd) and 2nd in our 1 hour race after being hit in the rear by the eventual winner (not his fault it was an accordian thing started by a lapped car in front of the 23). So thiings were improving.
Sunday was the second sprint race for the 23 and we came 2nd again. The long race (hour and a half) for the Pescarolo and Audi ended with the Audi 1st after the Pescarolo broke a wishbone while in the lead (see Sebring is a bumpy track).
Off to Homestead next. Prayers for those in need and I hope Ulrich they finally have your stuff straightened out. Most inefficient for Germans I think....... Cheers, J.R.
