blownout cylinder

Good Evening

I just spent most of my day in emerg here...my CHF was acting up...again

So, most of the day was pooched...now I'm back on-line....   thanks to our wonderful doctors...

Very low salt, low cholesterol, low fat, etc, etc, so on and so forth...although I can has lots of spicey stuff...heeheehee

glad you're back!

On another note: my father has been on a mission for about 10 years to "low sodium" "no salt" diet...GUESS where that ended him up for 3 days? IN the hospital for TOO LOW SODIUM! They prescribed salt tabs for him to boost it.

Sodium adn Potassium are needed for the cells to do their things!

I am always low on potassium every time they took blood and put me on supplements so Potassium supplement has been added to my diet.

My Cardiologist wants me on low salt, too, but when I am low on sodium, I can taste it on my lips signalling I need more sodium intake. I used to just mix salt water and drink til I couldn't stand it anymore and that was that. Now I add a little Pacific Ocean salt to my diet to boost it as I, too, was registering  too low on sodium for too long a periods. But I can just add a little salt to my diet, not needing a script for it, yet.

I am SOOO Not convinced that a low fat, no fat, no salt, low salt, "healthy cooking" diet is good for you. MY Grandmother, {b. 1899} bless her soul, came from the Appalachian hills..as in "Hillbilly"...deep in the "holler'...and lived the first oh, 40 years of life  on: bacon fat, Lard {pigs fat too}, salted meats for preservation, Salted brined veggie preserves{- home canned stuff in brines}, etc, before moving bmore "urban" and buying food stuff grocery store offerings, and she lived to a ripe old age of 94...and would never take a pill a day in her life, even when prescribed! Her  sister, born in 1890, lived to a ripe old age of 92 and lived in the hills til 1978, then moved more "urban". Her brother {1894} was a ripe old age of 88 when he died..

Well, I am Off, by one bubble to the left...but it hardly shows.

Have a great night...

afternoon guys

Been chipping away at that U25C. I got the radiators removed to put see-through stuff in. I also started shaving off the ridges on the walkways as I have etched brass walkway tread for it (really need to get a #17 blade for this one). I haven't cut into the area behind the cab for whatever goes back there yet. I'll probably do that tomorrow after work. The unit will hopefully look like this when done:

http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1539298

The only things I really need to complete the detailing on the shell is a cab. The old one was super glued on and broke on removal. Hi-tech details makes a cab for a U25B which would work. Although the cab I have from an Atlas U33C may also work (for when they added the 2-piece windshield to some units).

I'll be by the RC munching on a meatball sub.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Well here's yet another example of why. Even with all the "safety features" and "passwords" we have, the other day AOL asked if we had accessed our account from a computer other than this one two days earlier? NO we said. CHange passwords then, it said. SO we did {both MOH and I got these messages separately onour separate screen names}. SO then this AM I was on one Screenname and went to switch to the other, and BAM!! LOCKED OUT! So I tried 3 times, and it wanted me to change passwords, but I tried back to the one I was just on, and BAM! LOCKED OUT again! SO I asked MOH to try and BAM! LOCKED OUT!!! ACCOUNT COMPROMISED AGAIN!!!

WE called AOL promptly and they said another "user was accessing the account from a different computer right then", so they "dissconnected the other user and shut off our account" while

got changed.

Galaxy, this used to happen frequently when we were with AOsmell. The worst part is even if you get rid of AOsmell, it has now propagated itself and wrapped itself into so many of your other programs that getting rid of it will be like trying to get rid of Ivy.Bang Head

The last computer I had that had AOL on it went to its grave with fragments of the program still in it.

AOL. "youve got mail, and so do you, and you, and you too" !Confused

BUT KEY POINT: THIS is NOT THE FIRST TIME. THIS is why I won't change {until forced to} to electronic bill paying or anything!!! Then we will get another {laptop} computer to use ONLY for financial stuff! Don't know what "protection systems" w e will choose then....

This is exactly why I don't sign up for electronic bill paying online. I either contact the person/place using a phone number I know to be theirs or speak to them in person and have the signup done from their end with no exchange of card or account numbers being done online.

Well

I went to the first part of the AARP Safe Driver class. I go every 3 years, whether I need it or not. Ha Ha.

What is NOT SO HA HA, is this: you all who use your computers for electronic banking/billpaying wonder why we don't?? Well here's yet another example of why. Even with all the "safety features" and "passwords" we have, the other day AOL asked if we had accessed our account from a computer other than this one two days earlier? NO we said. Doesn't matter what programs we use as "safety features"..this happens periodically!

To those who say "must do", I say "PFfff-tt"! I won't.

Made it to my appointment this morning and got a prosthetic sock that will shrink the stump down to an acceptable size. I go back to see them again on the 31st. I told the nurse I'll have to remember to bring my mask and bag. It took her a few seconds but she got it. Halloween. Everything went well this morning until we got back home. By that time I was very tired. Not much sleep last night and using that walker gives a heck of an upper body workout. The last hurdle before getting into the house was the step at the door. It's only three or four inches high but that was high enough for me to trip on when I tried hopping up it. I hung onto the walker and used it for support so I didn't fall over but that didn't prevent me from going to my knees. From there it was a short trip on my hands and knees to my power chair. From there it was an easy matter to get up onto the seat. If that's the worst my day gets I'll be happy.

We scored another mouse! That's five for the snap traps, two for the cat and zero for the sticky traps.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, coffee, dark roast, to go and a couple Bavarian creme filled donuts too.

Busier than a cat covering poop on a marble floor today...  Have 3 ladies from my class coming to the house to finalize the booklet we are doing (I hope!).  Then up to Canandaigua to feed my sister's cats, then back home to have supper and go to a Sout Troop meeting.  It is rechartering time so I have to sit down with the committee chair and secretary to make sure they know how to do it.  Most of it has to be done online these days.

Have about 3 days of stuff to get done before Saturday for the Division meets as well...

Hopefully next week I can get back to a more sane schedule and do some stuff with the trains!

later!

Jeffrey  It's a Dx 5200 with two lenses. One 15mm to 75mm and another 75mm to 300mm, both good Nikon glass in them and G5 ability. I almost went for the 7200 but it was another 200 bucks so decided I could use that 200 toward the aforementioned flash.

  Morning All,

Currently it is 38 with an expected high of 61 with breezy conditions this afternoon.

I was able to get a little modeling done yesterday. Got the road bed and track glued down for the last two industrial spurs, and put a little ground cover between some tracks. I don't know if this happens to you folks, but I start on one project, then get side tracked by doing something else, and do not seem to get as much completed as I would like. I should make a list, but I probably would not follow it any way.Whistling

Need to go to Lowe's this morning before heading to w**k for some Velcro for holding throttles to the fascia, and package of furnace filters.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and biscuits and gravy with a couple three scrambled eggs on top please. Thanks.

Well I didn’t cry until KARL posted that picture. Where’s the Kleenex's. (sniff)

Another day of staying off the hoof today I think. Don’t mean to whine about this cause compared to what others have this is like crying about a broke fingernail WHICH, I might add is painful as heck and nothing to be ignoredWhistling. But I’ve had this, what I thought was a stone bruise on my heel for about a month now. Hurts the most when I walk after I’ve been off it for the night, and the more I walk it in the less it hurts, but only so much..., then it just hurts. Hard to explain. Might be one of them there pressure bruises too. Don’t think it’s cracked or nothing like that cause the pain center if you will, moves around. Sometimes center, sometimes left side, sometimes more to the right. Now the side of my foot is also getting sore as I’ve been favoring the heel and sacrificing the outstep of my foot. It was getting better it seemed until last night when I went in to wo*k to help because they got hammered with the parade and I stepped down hard off the step into the kitchen.

I do have to get Missy’s food today because, well, I didn’t get into town yesterday and she ate the last bowl of it. So it must be today or the fat dog will starve pert near to death.

Phone just rang andBrenda forgot her morning meds. Off to the elevator I go with an illegal transportation of prescription drugs violation looking me in the face. I hope I won't have to walk the steps to the courthouse what with my heel and all.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

GOOD THURSDAY MORNING!!!

Today is Thursday, October 3rd, 2013!!!

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!

Today's fun limmericks:

The shoes of old Eskimo Joe
Fell apart as he walked in the snow.

"Have you needle and thread?"

I enquired, but he said,

"No, i glue them not sew them, you know."

There once was a guy named Matt
Who had an overly large cat
When it chased a mouse
It shook the whole house
So Matt got rid of that!

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a decaf for me please...

Been a long and busy day for me today.  Drove down to the hobby shop to get a bottle of "Boxcar Red" and lo and behold they had 3 different tints in stock.  I bought the darkest one to mix with the bottle of mix I want to use on the Blacksmiths Shop.  Then after lunch drove to Canandaigua to take care of the sister's cats.  Claude her indoor kittie is a sweetheart.  After charging the car a bit I headed up North of town to get the PiP's oil changed (10,000 miles on it already).  I asked them to top off the battery so I could get farther home without burning gasoline.  They did at no cost so the 10,000 mile service came to $0.  On the way home I was able to drive the first part of the way home on EV, to the farm where I grew up and down the next hill before I kicked it over into HV Mode (Hybred Vehicle).  Drove about 6 miles that way until I got to the top of a hill outside of Seneca Castle.  I still had 5.1 miles of battery left so I put it back in EV mode.  Not only made it all the rest of the way home (a little over 6 miles) but still had 1.9 miles of EV left when I pulled in the driveway.  My MPG going to Canandaigua was 119.  Coming home it was 221 mpg!  It is about 18 miles from the dealer to my house....  Had 11.9 miles of EV showing when I drove out of the dealer's parking lot. Smile, Wink & Grin

Tonight I had to drive to Waterloo, NY for a Scout Roundtable and Commissioners Meeting.  Did that after I recharged the PiP!

Tomorrow I will be having 3 ladies from my High School Class over to hopefully finish the booklet we will be mailing to everyone who came to the reunion.  Then I have to bget everything done and packed for the Meet on Saturday.  Never a dull moment around here!

Prayers for all in need!

Well we've snagged two more mice with the snap traps and the cat nailed another one for three. So that's cat 2, snap traps 4, glue traps 0.

Didn't get anything done trainwise today. I have an appointment in the morning at the prosthetic clinic in DeRidder to see about getting the whatever it is that's supposed to reshape the stump of my leg so that it's more prosthesis friendly. That should just about do away with the morning.

I want to get some TV time in tonight so I'm calling it a night. See y'all sometime tomorrow.

Hi Guys

Not much going on here guys. I'm taking 15 old PS3 game tomorrow to trade in towards the new madden 25. worst part is I will still have to pay cash to get the new game, Video games do not hold value for a long time.

But I get the clutter out of the way and walk out with a new game. I also have F1 2013 coming next week so have alot of gaming for the winter

Only other game on my list to get is the new Call of Duty in November. and maybe Gran Turismo in December

Be back later guys.

Hmmm, bought a really nice high end Nikon camera this summer and have been really enjoying it. Still need to get a flash for it at $500 bucks but when I do it should be fun on the layout.

What model Nikon is it? Mine's just an old Coolpix L20, refurbished at that. I picked it up online a couple years ago I think for around $65 from a Big Lots or OfficeMax after I dropped and wrecked my L18. It's point and shoot but takes decent photos, up to ten megapixels but I keep it locked down to five.

Howdy ...

I hope the haz mat teem cleaned up the tank car derailment in Jeff's picture.

CDN Dennis .... Looks like you will have some time for the layout and already have a project for it (fascia). Enjoy the Nikon. Does that mean we will be seeing layout photos?

Paul ,,, I have known people who needed laser for the eye as you need. It always went well for those I know.

I need to do more on the layout, but I have used my limited model railroading time to run trains.

Some of you mentioned the shut down. Our property is next to Uncle Sam's Land Between the Lakes. The park is closed for now..  Won't be able to see the buffalo. As far as I know the highway is open to the other side..... At least, the government may be balancing the budget for a while.

Hi all

MIL-update..she has her good days and bad days. Today was a better day. Continued prayers and thoughts her way would be greatly appreciated!

While I was at the hospital I went for blood work. I have had so much blood work aand so many IVs that my veins are fussy and non-compliant to say the least. I told the vampire best to try with a butterfly in my hand than in hte elbow. Did she listen NO.SHe swore {like many others do} that she had "been doing this a long time, could get it right off", etc etc. So I said "try it then, but if you start stabbing at me I will complain loudly" {I wanted to use another word that I can't even print here}. SO she did the elbow, and stabbed around for about 2 minutes trying to get a vein to cooperate. NIL. NIL and NIl. She did ask it she was hurting me, and I said "NO". SHe confessed I was "right" and went for the butterfly nad the hand. SHe elevated teh chair adn I siad "oh, this adventure comes with a ride?" she said well of course. She went fo the hand and was stabbing around in there not finding one there to cooperate either. Again, after 1 minute she asked if she was hurting me. Isaid "No, Oddly enough, maybe I am dead?" She laughed and dropped a quarter.**

So the groceries are done and MOH off to work.

Free bread day came with a cake  with which we willl celebrate my big FIve-Oh birthday from last week as we didn't have a  cake then to celebrate with!

** a pyschologist on PBS once remarked how some people are so uptight they "clench their cheeks so tight and could hold a roll of quarters between them. If you could get them to lighten up, such as to laugh, they might go "tee hee" and actually drop a quarter" {out of the roll they are "holding"}. So hte vampire dropped a quarter.

have a great night!

Hello all.... well, it looks like fall is truly here in Alberta. Wet, cloudy, and a high of 35 F today with a nice little wind just to add to the chill. Forecast calling for rain/snow mix tonight. Yayyyyy.

Picked up the Masonite to do the fascia on the old RR the other day.  With the weather turning I've got 99 percent of the yard w**k done except for putting the metal fences around 3 shrubs to keep the jack rabbits from eating them this winter and wrapping the cedars in burlap to protect them from sun scald during the snow months. Oh right, I still have to put the convertable to bed for the winter and take the water pumps out of the ponds so they don't freeze up. Then I can get back to the RR. One of these days I need to come up with a name for it Confused

Lets see, what else have I been doing??? Oh yes, got my wife all set up for a trip to Vegas towards the end of the month with her sister. She wanted me to come along but I'd have been like a 3rd wheel so I said no, you girls go and I'll cat sit. Frankly I can use a few days to myself right about now. Even though I try and stay out from under foot, I need some ME time for a few days now and then.

Been watching the stuff going on with your government and have be shaking my head about it all but who am I to say.Hmm  Nuf said, none of my business.

Hmmm, bought a really nice high end Nikon camera this summer and have been really enjoying it. Still need to get a flash for it at $500 bucks but when I do it should be fun on the layout.

Take care one and all

Later...

Good afternoon friends!

Just a quick stop in before going back on duty for the go home train.

I'll be at the RC on my laptop checking VRE's website to be sure I'm still working tomorrow...

with the goverment shutdown, we have lost approximately 50-85% of our rider ships, so they monitor the passenger counts and "call the ball" for what schedule we will run the next day.  So far my trains have had near the same numbers.  Hopefully the "group of baboons" on the Hill get things figured out. (BTW, a group of baboons is known as a Congress, so I used the definition correctly! Lol) not getting political.

Thanks for the welcome back!  Almost felt like the prodigal son... :0)

Packer - Good luck on the work front.  I'm certain something is in the pipeline for you soon!

KBK - hopefully it is a second look!

Jeff - I enjoyed the derailment scene!  Tabasco peach mango lemonade?!  Sounds delicious!  Do you have a recipe you can share?

Ohhh, I have long missed the Diablo!  Chloe, may I please have one?  Thank you!

Well, I'll be perusing the VRE.org website for service info...

Paul,

The same thing happened to my wife after her cataracs were removed. It took just a minute with a laser and problem gone. They told her this happens often. They weren't kidding you when they said a "quick zap", as that's all it is. Good luck...

 Afternoon All,

Currently it is 42 with an expected high of 70 with winds to 30 mph in the afternoon.

Eye doc says there may be some clouding behind the lens in my right eye, so an evaluation is scheduled for  lat November. If it does not clear up, a quick zap with a laser, should take care of it. Otherwise the cataract surgery is doing what it was supposed to do. I can now get by with 1.75 reading glasses, bought a 3 pack at Costco yesterday.

Today looks like a  laundry day, one load is drying and another will go in soon, then a bit of grocery shopping, bill paying, and some modeling (I hope).

   Prayers to all in need.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a cup of dark raost coffee and a couple of the sour cream glazed donuts to start the day, please.

Dark and Gloomy outside here in the Finger Lakes today.  Thanks Barry!  He keeps sending his weather my way you know...Whistling  At the moments it is 68°F with a high in the mid 70's later this afternoon.

I have a busy day planned for today.  I have to stop at the vets to get food for the boys and a couple bags of Pill Pockets for Blackie's meds.  Drive to Canandaigua to feed her cats and then take the PiP in to the dealer for its 10,000 mile oil change and check up.  Then back home, recharge the car and go to Boy Scout Roundtable and Commissioner's Meeting tonight.  If time permits I will stop at the hobby shop and see if they have any Boxcar Red or Oxide Red paint in stock.  Need to add a couple drops of one or the other to the paint mix for the Blacksmith's Shop.

Catch up with you later tonight (I hope).

A diablo sandwich, hot fries and a Tabasco peach mango lemonade.

Good morning. It's 71° with 100% humidity. The high will be 88° and will feel like 95°.

As of yesterday I have an Athearn GP50 making it's way here through the postal system. That'll give me something new to work on. I have some passenger cars I can work on but I want to wait until I can get the proper parts for them. I've done about as much as I can with the F3's short of painting and converting to DCC.
