GOOD TUESDAY MORNING!!!

Today is the first Tuesday of October,

Tuesday, October 1, 2013!!!

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!!

Today's fun limmericks:

An artistic young man called Bo,
To an art class decided to go.

The teacher said, "Not right
Your canvas is all white!"

Said Bo, "T'is a polar bear in snow."

There once was a old man from Norway -
who cussed as he sat in a doorway-
the door smacked him flat-
and he yelled "what was that"?
then the old man died in a poor way!

Oh, BTW, before the cold really sets in, and while there are still a leaf or two to to "peep", we will visit MAINE.

The State of MAINE that is.

The MAINE State in the NorthEast, New England States of the USA!

Our journey will venture us into the lower parts on the "DOwneaster" Amtrak train:

In Colonial times, Maine shipbuilders created some of the finest sailing vessels ever built, and called them "Downeasters." The sleek and sophisticated service offered by the Downeaster takes you on a magical journey along the New England shoreline between Boston and Portland and on to Freeport and Brunswick. Now you can Experience More Maine.

Brunswick Station and Visitor Center is located within walking distance of shops, restaurants, hotels and the Bowdoin College Campus. It also serves as the gateway to Maine's beautiful Midcoast region.

The Freeport train platform is just steps away from hundreds of national retailers, name-brand outlets and locally owned boutiques all set in a 19th century Maine Village. A variety of restaurants and the LL Bean Flagship Store are also within walking distance.

Traveling to Freeport and Brunswick from Boston along the Downeaster's route, you'll find additional historic colonial cities offering beautiful beaches, a thriving arts and entertainment scene, world-class shopping – and the best seafood in the world.

Downeaster trains arrive and depart from Boston North Station

All other Amtrak services in Boston depart from South Station and Back Bay Station. Passengers transferring between the Downeaster and other Amtrak services must make their own arrangements for the transfer between stations in Boston. When transferring by taxi it is suggested that passengers connect to their continuing Amtrak train at South Station. Transfer by taxi is recommended for passengers traveling with significant amounts of luggage or young children. We suggest that passengers transferring to Back Bay Station use the Orange Line.

Hello?

Hello?

Am I all alone in here? Its early, I know, but not as early as It was when I opened the diner!!!

Well, The Affordable Care Act {commonly referred to as "Obamacare"} Is here now.

I've been looking so we can get care for MOH, who is now insurance-less. I HAVE been checking the gov't health care sites and checking the info. Now that it is officialy "open", I cna see the rates , but that is ALL.

I can not find our Dr. OR even our Hospital as one "in the network", even though they are choices!!! It comes up "not found"< SO either he is NOT in the network {possible} AND/OR our local Major Hospital center is NOt in the "network" but is listed as a choice?

Also, MOH's income fluctuates, and a severe penalty can ensue if you fail to accurately state that for the subsidy for low income earners, which BTW, includes those up to 400% above poverty or about $46K/yr for a single!

It was supposed to be "easy to understand", but I am confused as ever!!!

Gov't stuff .....

Sigh

Good morning. It's 72° with 100% humidity. The high will be 85° and will feel like 96°.

A very wet day yesterday. My father ended up having to reschedule his appointment as he found out there was no way he would be finished before noon. So we got some things done here during the morning then set off for Oakdale at 11am. It was a real workout getting out to the garage, even worse once out there because the ground is rough. I had to be extremely careful. My father wasn't up to driving so he rested in the back seat while my step mother did the driving. It was darkness, heavy clouds and rain the whole way. We finally got there still a half hour early. The doc was very pleased with the excellent healing on the knee and said that it's ready to have a shaper applied to it and in fact was surprised that the doctor in charge of that hadn't contacted me about it. A prescription had been issued to them but they have no record of it. So now everybody is running around trying to find this prescription but nobody knows where it is. They said they'd call me when they find out but so far there's been no word. Things went well on the way back home. However in the garage area I hit a patch of ground that had a hole big enough for one of the walkers legs to slide off into and I went halfway to my knees cussing a blue streak all the way. I did manage to keep from falling but just barely. The rest of the trip to the house was made without incident. By that time I was worn out. If you think two hundred feet with a walker and one leg to stand on is easy you need to try it sometime. Great upper body workout! Get the coordination right and you can actually outrun someone whose moving at a normal walking pace. By that time it was late afternoon and the last thing I felt like doing was getting online. So I spent the rest of the day resting and watching a couple of shows. Watched Extreme Trains 'Freight Train' then watched Robocop. Got something to eat then watched a couple of CSI shows then called it a night.

Nothing planned for today. I think I pulled a muscle in my left shoulder yesterday as it's really letting me know about it this morning.

Morning all!

Just a coffee please...

Well, it's my Sons Birthday today. He turns the big 0-5...yep five years young today. My how time flies. He's a chip off the old block in that he loves trains. He has been asking for "Whittle Wood" trains for the last few months so my wife and I bought him a truckload of them over the span of that time! He will be opening up a CP trainset (locomotive and five pieces of rolling stock), CN trainset (locomotive and five pieces of rolling stock), Soo Line boxcars (2), Government of Canada grain hoppers (2), as well as some Thomas the Tank pieces and track. If you haven't seen the Whittle Wood wooden trains before and have kids or grand kids that like trains, check them out! Hand made right here in the USA and they look great, compatable with Thomas and Brio but they are perfect for older kids or those who collect wooden trains.

Well, I plan on working on his N scale layout this afternoon before the festivities kick off. Track plan is transcribed onto the 4X8 sheet of extruded foam...I need to figure out the reverse loop section when the time comes (working with DC again after operating DCC for so long)...ready to start laying the cork roadbed either today or within the next couple of days. It's been fun working with N scale (I am an HO guy) and watching him get excited as his new layout comes together.

Have a great day all!

Don.

Got word a little while ago that the missing prescription was found late yesterday and faxed to the clinic in DeRidder. I called them and they have it. An appointment has been set for 9am Thursday.

Morning All,

Currently it is 48 with an expected high of 72 under mostly sunny skies.

Today will be a long busy day. I have an eye doc appointment this morning, and will do some shopping at Costco before that appointment. Then w**k and a meeting afterwards. Should be real tired tonight.

Chris, I forgot to mention nice work on that converted round house, looks great.

Prayers to all in need, especially Tom with his back, and Jeff.

Afternoon folks...  Downeast, huh?

Well then Chloe, I'll have a bowl of the New England Clam Chowder, a Maine Lobster Roll, and a Dr. Pepper for lunch.

I returned the sleep monstrosity this morning and then made a bank run to deposit a check for the MLK Committee.  Got home and went right back out to do some grocery shopping.  Didn't need a whole lot but bought some stuff i didn't need to get a 20¢ off on the next tank of dinosaur dung to fill the other tank on the PiP.  That will be later this week since I am burning some gunk to go to my sister's house every day.  Whistling  I have a lot of things to get done and print out for the NMRA Division Meet this coming Saturday.

Nice time of year to be Downeast, BTW.  Fall foliage is already in full color they say!  Will be another couple weeks away for us here in the Finger Lakes.

Later!

Is this a train room with other rooms attached, a train room with a house on top, a train room on top of a house, or a train room separate from the house?

Glad to be back, and will be visiting more regularly from here on!

thanks of or the congrats on the house!  It is a train room with other rooms attached.  Negotiations were successful in procuring the space for the purpose of running trains on my off days!

the house is located in a small development outside of Fredericksburg.  Just a few miles from my sign up location!

(edit)  it is a 5 bedroom, 3 bath home.  Perfect for growing into, whether it means the train room expands like the blob or we wind up starting a family, only He knows...  But I am very thankful to have a place that I can call my own.

Chloe, may I have an outer cup of coffee with a slice of pie to escort it to my tummy? Thank you!

Good evening.  A bit later than usual today.  We've actually been busy at work, and I've had little time to slack off.

Galaxy, glad to see that you are seeing the great state of Maine.  Portland is a fine walking city, and well stocked with excellent restaurants with indoor and outdoor seating.  We discover a new treasure every time.  I'm not much of a Freeport fan, myself.  LL Bean is interesting, but everything else is just one women's clothing or shoe store after another.

Buy your tickets ahead of time for the Downeaster.  There is a significant senior discount, but you can't get it on the train, so plan ahead.  You can do it online.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Well today I paid for an anniversary boxcar I won in an auction last month, bought an Athearn UP GP50, a Silver Streak DVD (1934 version) and I bought another A2M0003 Disk II disk drive for the Apple IIe. If this one works as good as advertised I'll use it. If not I'll strip it for parts to use repair a couple of other A2M0003 drives I have. I also paid my bills and had my father drop a payment at the loan company so they'll be happy for another month.

The weather here isn't looking all that great. We got a bunch of stuff moving north and a lot more coming in off the gulf. It's quiet right now but thunder-boomers have been moving through most of the day and it doesn't look like they'll be stopping before morning. So with that I'll be calling it a night.

Evening guys

Well the government shut down may have an effect on my job too. Most of the customers are government works courtesy of 2 air force bases within 10 miles. Last week I got 32 hours, this week, 19.5. To make matters worse, my GM hired 4 new people and cut the hours of people who had been working there for a while (me included). Even better, all but one of my shifts this week are under 5 hours. and I have 4 days... I'm pretty fed up with the 3-hour shifts... Looking through job sites at the moment. Still nothing for my degree field.

Train front; I changed up my train I keep at the club. I took off a CNW covered hopper and an N&W 85' boxcar, and replaced them with 2 UP centerbeams and a GTW autorack. Although in the processes I noted the horn on my ATSF SD40-2 down there is missing... It wouldn't be a big deal, if this horn wasn't on a stand (why I don't know, but the prototype has it's horn on a stand). I wonder if it has anything to do with the missing horn from my F45 and SD45 from earlier... Huh?. Luckily even I can't get the horn off of my BLI C30-7s. The mounting pin for them is so long, that it's bent under the shell and CA-d that way... Only if I could find a 3rd one without sound. I also stuck my rapido baggage car into my Amtrak train. Worked fine after I loosened the trucks a little.

Sam, Good to see you

Chris, the roundhouse looks good.

Garry, Mine is a Rivarossi/AHM. I'm redoing the shell with a detail kit from kaslo shops. All the radiators will be see-through and the drive system will be redone. This is my 3rd attempt. After botching 2 others (got impatient and ended up cracking the shells) and I'm taking my time. This one is painted in CB&Q, but it'll probably become an ex-NP unit as the gyralight is molded in too. The chassis is going to be from an Athearn Trainmaster, but using trucks from a Bacmann E33 and a kato motor. I just have to figure out the driveshafts, but I think the ones from an Atlas/Kato C424/425 would work.

I'm off for the next 2 days. I might hack into my Rivarossi U25C some more to get the Kaslo kit on it.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Hey fella's ain't been up to much just school and tinkering with trains, since the Layout plan is far off, I decided I'll build my railroad one module at a time. May I present module 1

So above looking down we see the double track mainline with a passing siding on the right, and a track headed to the station which will be double track. there will be a curved turnout which will lead into a coach yard which will have a coach shop(2 track) and 3-4 storage tracks. the coaches will be moved around the layout in a constant interchanging cycle between the "Burlington Northern" I've removed set time limit and era so I've freed myself from many restrictions, I decided it'd be much better if I ran all my stuff together rather than era seperate. But anywho the coaches will often be stored while and maintained when another train is in the running rotation. there will be plenty of trains so excess coaches will be plentiful especially when I can get my hands on more CB&Q, NP, GN, BN, and SP&S coaches. the SP will run a through Daylight passenger train, the BN executive train will host shipper specials taking sidings for passing freights and passengers. UP will also have a through train, as will the MILW road. the "BN's" freight locomotives, and MILW freights will share the trackage, occasionally freight loco's may serve as stand ins or do "commuter cannonballs."

apologies for the mess, sharing a room with my brother makes the space a bit cramped.

morning coffee in the diner..

GOOD WEDNESDAY MORNING!!!

Today is Wednesday, October 2nd, 2013!!!

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!!!

Today's Fun Limmericks:

I'm papering walls in the loo
And quite frankly I haven't a clue;

For the pattern's all wrong
(Or the paper's too long)

And I'm stuck to the throne with glue.

There once was a kid named Darren
Who's room was surprisingly barren
He had no toys
Like normal boys
But he did believe in sharin'.

Word of the day:

Druthers - {DRUTH-uhrz} noun, One own way, one's preference

Etymology:   Plural of druther, contraction of ’d rather, as in "I/he/etc. would rather ..." Earliest documented use: 1895

Olde Tyme words:

Weird Words
"A" IS FOR "ANGLEWITCH": an anglewitch is an obsolete word meaning a worm that is used as a lure or bait to catch a fish

Pyknic -  (p k n k) Means a person who is stocky with a rounded body and head, thick trunk and a tendency to be fatHaving a short stocky physique.[From Greek puknoscompact.]

I am proud {I think? maybe not} To be a Pyknic!!!! At least I are one!

Good mornin all!

Hiya Flo! Can I get a Diablo sandwich and a Dr. Pepper?

Spent a few hours yesterday at the Counties job center, re-writing resumes, and searching the job boards there, Got home and had a message posted through LinkedIn from a local boneyard owner. He had interviewed me over 2 years ago for a position there running his ebay department, but passed me over. While on their website last week I noticed their ebay link was dead, so I shot him a note letting him know. In his note yesterday he briefly explained that he was aware of the link, and he wanted to meet with me later this week.Hmm  Hmmmm, maybe a second chance?

As of yesterday I have an Athearn GP50 making it's way here through the postal system. That'll give me something new to work on. I have some passenger cars I can work on but I want to wait until I can get the proper parts for them. I've done about as much as I can with the F3's short of painting and converting to DCC.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a cup of dark raost coffee and a couple of the sour cream glazed donuts to start the day, please.

Dark and Gloomy outside here in the Finger Lakes today.  Thanks Barry!  He keeps sending his weather my way you know...Whistling  At the moments it is 68°F with a high in the mid 70's later this afternoon.

I have a busy day planned for today.  I have to stop at the vets to get food for the boys and a couple bags of Pill Pockets for Blackie's meds.  Drive to Canandaigua to feed her cats and then take the PiP in to the dealer for its 10,000 mile oil change and check up.  Then back home, recharge the car and go to Boy Scout Roundtable and Commissioner's Meeting tonight.  If time permits I will stop at the hobby shop and see if they have any Boxcar Red or Oxide Red paint in stock.  Need to add a couple drops of one or the other to the paint mix for the Blacksmith's Shop.

Catch up with you later tonight (I hope).

 Afternoon All,

Currently it is 42 with an expected high of 70 with winds to 30 mph in the afternoon.

Eye doc says there may be some clouding behind the lens in my right eye, so an evaluation is scheduled for  lat November. If it does not clear up, a quick zap with a laser, should take care of it. Otherwise the cataract surgery is doing what it was supposed to do. I can now get by with 1.75 reading glasses, bought a 3 pack at Costco yesterday.

Today looks like a  laundry day, one load is drying and another will go in soon, then a bit of grocery shopping, bill paying, and some modeling (I hope).

   Prayers to all in need.

Paul,

The same thing happened to my wife after her cataracs were removed. It took just a minute with a laser and problem gone. They told her this happens often. They weren't kidding you when they said a "quick zap", as that's all it is. Good luck...
