You know, this all has me wondering - since there is now a Lion on Broadway, I'm guessing the lamb doesn't lie down there anymore...

Thanks Chad, all...

Here is a snip from a larger and un remarkable snap shot of a train departing Botanic Garden for Dyckman Street, It was not a good quality photo to begin with, and so I played around with it a bid, and this is what happened...

In one of the tunnels, perhaps it is 23rd Street, the local takes the curve at speed. Missing are the express tracks, these were installed later. On the back bench work is a 50 conductor cable and a pin board where it can be accessed by devices (switches and signals) in this area. LION uses 25 pair Cat-3 conductors for most of his device wiring distribution from the control console. The cable shown here is a much older cable with 20ga stranded conductors. It was the first cable that I bought after entering the monastery. Previous cables that came with me were 22ga/25 conductor stranded cables, which of course are still in use. Cables do not "wear out" unless of course you are Con Edison. The smaller panel to the right hosts 14ga cables for track power.

A picture from an older time on my layout. This entire area (NYP) has been torn out and a new 34th Street Subway station built in its place. Besides seeing a subway train and an LIRR commuter train on adjacent tracks would have been a bit unusual.

As a note to those who like to PLAN their railroads, it is only by using the layout as I built it that I discovered how it really should have been built. LION is not opposed to tearing out a whole section of the railroad and starting over if that it what is required.

Now where is Wildebeest?

LION does not have a lamb. Would you settle for a Llama.

A one "L" lama is a priest

A two "L" llama is a beast

and I do not want to meet a three "L" LLLAMA.

The sisters at a near by monastery raise llamas. I put a stuffed doll on the fence post and called it the Llama's Dolly.

Anyway, for (ahem) what ever reason, that LLAMA is no longer on Broadway.

Gidday Randy, I had picked up your reference Big Smile but looking at all the tiled floors realised that there were obviously no Carpet Crawlers in The Waiting Room Back in N.Y.C.

Lion I am thoroughly enjoying this thread for its gentle humour, which in  no way detracts from your unique layout.Bow

Cheers,the Bear.

BTW,,,,Did anyone catch the news in the Chicago area,,,where the Ghost subway train ran into one sitting in the station?? No one killed,,but about 35 injured...They are still trying to figure out, how it got there, with no operator, without shutting down, out of the three systems, that they have, that are supposed to do that...Runaway Subway train, but outside..

LION knows of the Chicago thing. There are indeed problems with it. Clearly the escapee broke through switches since the revenue train would not have been aligned for the yard. The escapee did NOT roll down hill, it ran up hill at one point. THEY say no one was on the train, but this hardly seems to be possible, although it was very likely that it was operated from a different position on the train: the middle cabs or even the rear cab could have done this. Apparently CTA does have safety overrides for emergency use. These could have been set for yard movements since the pair in question was being prepped for dead movement to Skokie. Details at the other end of the cat.

My trains are run by LPP motorpeeps, and depend upon signals to advance the consist over the railroad. (This train set was being operated "as delivered" and had to be painted on the inside to prevent the car body from glowing the the dark. LION does not really run nuclear powered trains. (yet)

Guard rails. Those are easy. LION makes lots of things from them. Him uses this plastic stuff that the women folk use for stitching or something. I cut them to whatever shape I require. Here is the same material cut into a different sort of fence.

The "keys" are not all that secret or secure. The older NYCT equipment had no keys, (The reverser and the cutting tool are called "keys" but they look like wrenches.) you need the reverser and the brake handle.

LION *has* reverser and brake handle.

Newer cars have keys. They look more like a pencil with a wart and a handle, but the LION has this and the Vapor key as well.

ERGO, while you need these keys, they do not secure the train. Locomotives do not have "keys" either, at least not in the sense that your car has keys.

You want secure: Build equipment that requires a bio-metric ID card. Otherwise...

HOLD MY BEER AND WATCH THIS!
