Good morning. It's 78° with 95% humidity. Outside it feels like 88°. The high will be 98° but will feel like 106°. Somebody must have ordered sunshine because we're getting a lot of it this week.

No plans for today but I'm reasonably certain something will present itself.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, yep, I'm up early this morning, had to take Manét to the Vet for his annual check up and vaccination.  I'll have a short stack of blueberry pancakes with maple syrup, and a pot of dark roast coffee to get me awake.

Last night I got out the cat carrier to take Manét this morning.  Both cats promptly disappeared for a while.  Didn't get ant sleep last night as I had a complete blood work up done on Manét so he needed a 12 hour fast.  Both cats can be very insistent on keeping me awake when they are hungry!  Vet spent quite a bit of time listening to Manét's lungs.  I was starting to panic when she took so long....  She says, "normally cats make very little sound when breathing", now I'm really panicked!  Then she adds he is making no sound sound so I think he is fine!  Whew!!!  She thinks the coughing may well have been an allergy to mold and mildew....  Guess I have to get to work on the basement.  I'll know the results of his blood work in a few days.

Galaxy, I always liked Col. Potter's phrase in MASH, "Horse Hockey!"  "Whatever it is, I'm against it!"

I need to get some house cleaning done...  Way behind schedule, and it needs it!  Catch you all later.

 Morning All,

Currently it is 65 with an expected high of 94.

My back is feeling better, and it is a good thing as I w**k today and then a meeting afterward.

Hot August Nights starts in full swing today, so the store should be busy, but not a lot of buying I don't think. Most of these folks are interested in cars, and noy so much shooting and hunting. Hot August Nights is an automobile event, lots of old cars and trucks, with show and shine's, cruises'  live music with some well known bands, the Beach Boys have made several appearances over the years.

   Prayers to all in need.

Been a busy day around here so far. I woke up a little before 7:00 this morning when the temperature was around 60°. So I figured I would get an early start with the 5 loads of laundry that needed done. In between loads I managed to get the front and back yards mowed and edged. Also trimmed up some hedges that were getting a little wild. It's around 75° now, bright and sunny. I'm thinking a nice cold shower will feel pretty good right about now.

Thinking about driving up to North East, PA some morning this week. It's outside of Erie and there's a nice little rail museum there. It's a good spot to watch CSX as well. They recently had an engine donated to them by Norfolk Southern, so there would be something new to see as well. Not sure about this little jaunt, we will have to see.

Hope everybody has a good day...

Evening gang!

Flo, can you just pour that coffee right into my eyes please? Sleep

Was a nice , cool, abit  a little wet today. Who am I kidding, pavement  went from dry, to monsoon conditions, then back to dry as I was out and about today. Needed some detail parts,,,had to drive 100 miles and 2 stores to get em, and I still need ashpans for the one steamer I am building.  I guess you will have this if you want more than RTR stuff!Sigh

Ray, Midnight is such a bad traveler that SWMBO now does his diabetes monitoring every 3 months at home. She has to take blood from his ear every 2 hours for 12 hours, test him with a human meter, and record the readings. Normal blood sugar for cats is 150-200. Thankfully he was right there last weekend, no change in his medication. Now though we have a mobile vet in the area. We may give them a call next time he needs to see a doctor!

Inch Angel prayers for your Stepdad.

Swmbo is ringing the dinner bell, catch y'all later!Cowboy

Packer: When I get my kills stolen from me, I just look at it like "Well, there's nothing I can do about it. Moving on to the next guy." In fur balls, I just fight like that. So while I might not get, say, 3 or 4 victories, I still get about 1 or 2, which is better than nothing in my opinion. Also, the "experts" seem to get shot down WAY before I do. I've often been the last guy standing quite a bit now, mainly now that I have some experience up my sleeve. I have developed a Claire Chennault type strategy now actually. Dive. Attack fast. Climb. Repeat.

Gary: If you have an account on World of Warplanes, I would like to form a flight with you, especially if you have Tier 5 craft, mainly sense this is what I have been using lately.

Hey there guys.

Tonight on the game, I had a hard time getting started. Wasn't even hitting people for a little while, and this was unfortunately with people who claim to be "experts". Those people who blame others for rammings and such. Got off, cooled down, worked out some tactics, and, while I still lost one battle, I was able to claim a few victories for myself with my Wildcat and P-40.

Nothing special today other than I adjusted the Quentin disk drive. It was off on it's read/write speed by 52.8 milliseconds. I got it down to +/- 4.5 milliseconds of baseline. Can't get it any lower without an oscilloscope provided I knew how to use one. I made do using the recommended settings in a maintenance manual. It's for an Apple drive but I figure an Apple compatible should be pretty much the same.

Have to talk with my father tomorrow about some things he wants to discuss about the upcoming operation. He tried telling me what they are today from work but the phone connection was so bad I couldn't understand him. That's OK. He'll be home tomorrow.

It's still 89 here. Supposed to be a low of 75 tonight. Well it's time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a cup of decaf for me again tonight.

Ah, shark week on the Discovery Channel....  If I had cable, I might actually turn it on for a few minutes.  My son will be sitting glued to the box until the better half comes and changes the channel on him.....  They been having Shark Week for a good many years now as I can remember it and I haven't watched TV much in over a decade now.

The good Rev. who is President of our local MLK Committee stopped by tonight with a couple requests for payment of the first installment of this years scholarships.  Neither one was complete as we now have to have more information to process the money from the account for them.  I should have the info in a couple days.  Got a lot more done on the items I have to do for the reunion.  Thursday evening we are planning a Laminating party to put the name tags together at one of the committee peoples house.  That way i don't have to try to make this dump presentable...  Even got a few more parts installed on the little Packard truck I am assembling down stairs.  This is one of those Tomar kits where you get to use a lot of those words...  You know the ones your mom was going to wash your mouth out with soap for using.  Lots of fun!

Tomorrow i have a dental appt. to get my teeth cleaned.  While I am there I'm hoping the Dentist will be able to sand down a sharp ridge between two teeth where food gets lodged and won't easily come out.  Drives my nuts!

I'm having trouble keeping my eyes open so I guess i will call it a day.  Prayers for all in need!

GOOD WEDNESDAY MORNING!!

Today is Wednesday, July 7th, 2013!!!

MAKE it a GREAT day!

Note to Garry: he mentions our areas in his thread as the "whole picture" but is modeling only a part that is unnown to me, so I would not be of help and most likely not interested other than he is attempting to model something!

I broke a tooth with a crown on it, Darn it! ANd now without dental insurance, It will cost me dearly to have it pulled and a tooth added to my partial.

Well, if 'horse feathers' doesn't work, tell them to 'tell it to the marines'!!!, SO:

Meaning:

A scornful response to a tall and unbelieved story

origin:

The short version:

When someone tries to tell you a far fetched tale that you are not going to fall for, you can tell them to "Go tell it to the Marines."  Why?  The origin goes back to 1800's when British professional sailors thought the marines were 'greenhorns'.  Apparently, if the British sailors were told some outlandish tale, they'd tell the person to go 'tell it to the marines', who were very gullible. It has nothing directly to do with the U.S. Marine Corp., it has to do with sailors attitudes.

The longer version:

The US Marine Corps are probably the best-known marines these days and this American-sounding phrase is often thought to refer to them. This isn't an American phrase, though, and, although it has been known in the USA since the 1830s, it originated in the UK and the marines in question were the Royal Marines.

The first marines in an English-speaking country were The Duke of York and Albany's Maritime Regiment of Foot, formed in 1664, in the reign of Charles II. Charles I of Spain had established a similar marine corps - the Infantería de Armada (Navy Infantry) in 1537 but, being from a non English-speaking country, that corps are hardly likely to be the source of the phrase. The Duke of York's men were soldiers who had been enlisted and trained to serve on-board ships. The recruits were considered green and not on a par with hardened sailors, hence the implication that marines were naive enough to believe ridiculous tales, but that sailors weren't. Such a tall tale is often quoted as the source of this phrase. It is said King Charles II made a remark to Samuel Pepys in which he mocked the marines' credulity in their belief in flying fishes. That's a nice story, but it has been shown to be a hoax that was perpetrated in the 1900s by the novelist W. P. Drury - a retired Lieutenant Colonel of the Royal Marines.

Most of the early citations give a fuller version of the phrase - "You may tell that to the marines, but the sailors will not believe it". This earliest reference to be found that uses the short version that is used today comes from the transcription of a journal that was written by John Marshall Deane, a private in the Foot Guards. His journal was written in 1708 and was transcribed and printed in 1846, under the title of A Journal of the Campaign in Flanders. The preface, which was the work of the transcriber rather than Deane and so must be dated as 1846 rather than 1708, includes this:

[The commanding officer] if a soldier complained to him of hardships which he could not comprehend, would be very likely to recommend him to "tell it to the marines"!

The longer version of the phrase is found earlier, in John Davis's The Post-Captain, or, The wooden walls well manned comprehending a view of naval society and manners, 1804:

"He may tell that to the marines, but the sailors will not believe him"

Good Morning!!!

Coffee aaaaand…Hmm…..a couple three scramb….no make that eggs Benedict please, thanks.

A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 1pm. Patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 88.

Inch- Got your Step Dad in my thoughts and prayers.

I don’t play those online games, or for that matter, pretty much any video games anymore. But I am very familiar with the “experts”. They are in most everything you do from games to sports to shopping at Walmart. I didn’t like playing with them then and I wouldn’t play with them now. They take all the fun out of it and if their whole claim to anything of worth is playing a game, and that’s what makes them feel better than someone else so they can be proud of something and feel like they’re better than someone else…..well then I’m happy for them.  When I hear them talk about how great they are at some game and what an idiot the person they were playing was and how they just annihilated them, I just smile and say “wow, really.” Of course I’m not talking about the average person who just talks about a game they are playing like goes on in here and many places all over. Sure sometimes we all get excited about winning or about a particularly exciting game. That's normal. I’m talking about the “experts”. The ones who play the game design staff online and beat them soundly because they are so good and the designers are so surprisingly stupid at the game doing all sorts of dumb thingsConfused. We all probably know at least one.

I used to watch Shark Week every time it was onYes. Loved it. Probably haven’t seen it in 15 years or better though. Funny thing. I used to get stuff done AND watch that show for well, a week plus others. Now, I rarely watch TV except very hap hazardly and get nothing done. HmmMaybe I should start watching more TV.

Welp, got chores to do myself so…Confused. Start with some laundry and I need pretty much every one of my hairs cut. Maybe today, maybe not.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Gary: Should let you know that the game is in Open Beta Test mode right now. When it is officially released, everyone's account will be reset. This is so everyone will be on the same playing field at release, and, thankfully, except for  a few people, everyone seems to understand this. So if you do download the game, provide feedback to the developer, because the "experts" will get on you for even not providing "sufficient" feedback.  I haven't experienced this problem yet, but I'm waiting for the day I do have it, because when there are people like this around, people like those of us here can't seem to catch a break.

It's back to work for me today after a nice extra long weekend.  Spent some time building some kits I ordered for the layout, had a little barbecue with family and friends and had to chance to drive my car around Mosport Race Track.  Driving around a real race track is a lot of fun.  I went for a ride in my friend Dave's new Porsche 911 Turbo and was terrified.  We got the car up to around 300 KMS per hour and I honestly thought that if we crashed we would die.  Terrified and fun all at the same time.  I plan on going to the CARM convention this weekend.  It should be fun meeting fellow Canadian modellers from all over Canada.

Good morning, and another fine one it is here in New England.  It's supposed to cloud up and rain later, but we need the rain.

Galaxy, I just had a tooth pulled.  Same thing - an old crown, and the tooth split in two.  A couple of years back, the same thing happened to the other side.  Both of these were the far back teeth, and my dentist told me I probably wouldn't mss them.  She was right.  So, I had the tooth removed and didn't bother with trying to replace it.  Worked for me.  And I do have insurance, so that wasn't the issue.

Lee, congratulations.

Well, it looks like I'll need a new microwave.  The old one failed, and the part is a dollar more than a whole new unit.  Hopefully, since this is the upgrade of the same model, it will just mount in the same spot and be an easy replacement.

This is "no sales tax" weekend in Massachusetts.  The usual 6.25% levy is suspended on stuff under $2500.  The government always brags about what a great thing this is for consumers and local businesses.  One is tempted to say, "If this is such a good thing, why not do it all year?"  Anyway, I'll save some money on buying my microwave locally.  I've also got a U28B on order at my LHS, and I will arrange to pay for it on Saturday.  The locomotive costs more than the microwave, by the way.  Of course, based on past performance, the locomotive will also last a lot longer than the microwave.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Lee -  Congratulations to you both. Here's hoping you both have many years of happiness and fun together.

I also have a question for you about the bridge I was talking about. You mentioned it was a "cantilever bump" bridge. I didn't see that term when looking it up on the internet. Does your term refer to the "truss bridge" that's attached at the north end? I may have to start looking at the other railroad bridges in our area more. There are a lot of them and they are all impressive when paid attention to.

Morning guys

BLI NW2 update: turns out the board in one is bad. When trying to write the version 7 update, it would give an error. Turns out it's the one that dies on direction change. So I need to get some other decoder for it, probably a TCS or a Lenz. I could get a loksound for my SW10, then take the TCS out of it and rewire the NW2 for it. For the one that retains the QSI board, I'll stick a 2-function function only decoder in it for the headlight and beacon... There may be a blessing in disguise in having one board bad. without the clunky SQI electronics or a speaker, there is a BUNCH of room on the inside of the loco. More weight will be fitted (any they are pretty good pullers normally too)

Lee, congrats

Jake, maybe I could try it. Are joysticks supported? I'd much rather have a joystick, but my brother has it.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

 Morning All,

Currently it is 69 with an expected high of 89.

Day off for me, so laundry time and a good cleaning of the house is in order.

Finally got Adobe Flash Player to work. The only way I could do it was to install Firefox as my web browser, and install it from there.

Experts, there are lots of them in the hunting and shooting sports. They come into the store and start espousing all their knowledge about a particular firearm or ammunition, most have no idea of what they are talking about. Gets old real fast at times. But remember the old adage, "The customer is always right." Well we let them think they are right, most of the time. The really arrogant ones we tend to set straight.

    Prayers to all in need.

     Paul

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of Vanilla Almond Granola with some blueberries on top and a pot of dark roast coffee please.

Lee, congratulations to both you and Dorothy.  May you have many, many happy years together!

Hazy and very humid outside here in the Finger lakes.  I haven't turned on the Air Conditioner yet, but it is 73°F outside and 77°F in the house.  Feels like it is going to rain here in the dining room, so.........

I have a dentist appointment early this afternoon, and after that is done with I will decide what else needs my attention for the day....

Later!

Went to my fathers place for lunch today. Sausage and pepperoni pizza. Pear preserves on toast afterward. We did some some on a plywood sliding panel that'll be put at the end of the hall where the hall opens onto his and my step-mothers room so I can have some degree of privacy while I'm living there. My room opens onto the hall between their room and the great room. The bathroom is right across the hall from my room. I'll probably be there from six to twelve weeks after my recovery from the surgery.

The 80 column/64k memory expander card I've been waiting on came today. It's a five chip model that came out in the late 80's (two chips for RAM, two for text/graphics and one control). It's about the size of a credit card. It's now installed in my enhanced Apple IIe. The older card I had in there previously, a ten chip model from the early 80's (eight for RAM, two for text/graphics, one for control) has been installed in a IIe that was rescued from a school. I still need a drive controller, CP/M card and a standard keyboard for that one.

Hi all

LEE- FIRST, lemme ask you the the "big Q" {no,not THAT "big Q"- I assume you already asked THAT one}  that was asked of me and my other half when we went to get our marriage license. So, we were asked, and I ask you, "ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO DO THAT???" In unison, we said "yes'. Then later we found out just how much a "penalty" the marriage cost us in the long run..BUT, I digress...Congrats to you both {I think}.

MR. B-I only have now 4 natural teeth on the top, and this one was a 'middle grinder" tooth.I have very few teeth to grind and nash with now. I HAVE to have it added to my partial! COst aside! It will be the LAST ditch effort to keep a partial on the top instead of a full false plate there. On the bottom. I go friday to get the insert of my new partial for those teeth..agian the grinders in the middle. The far back teeth are gone long ago and I don't need fake ones there as they make me gag. Tomorrow I get teh tooth pulled, Fird insert of partial..seems as I "gain teeth", I loose them..they just break off! I was eating Macaroni salad, then was floss picking my teeth and it jsut broke off. *sigh*

Well, got the free bread today, that about it. HTe phone rang all day so I played secretary.

GOt the extenders belts for my KILT, so now to test it out.

Saturday is the long day of waling, kilt attired, to the festival in SYracuse. Will test my hip to the limit!!!

Well, bes ttry on the kilt agian.

Dinner is roast of dead  beast, rotten potatoes, and split green beans...

Have a good evening...
