 Evening Dinners

Flo Beer Pleases.

Just want to stop by and let you folks know I am still alive. While I am working some decent hours at the St Charlies Mo store, the 1 hour drive each way is kicking my caboose!

Still daydreaming about getting my Road Runner running again. So I have been on the Mopar site a lot of late. I am off Saturday so I hope to stop by for a proper post. I still skim the dinner but I am sure I have missed some Happy B-Day and prayers for people in need.

Trains are running well and the PK 2 B&O GP 30 is starting to get quieter

 See you all later, Ken

Duke

You are welcome! I didn't think anyone had noticed. Smile, Wink & Grin

Bill .... You even awakened Duke! Amazing accomplishment! .... Remarkable..... and you also got Flp's attention! ... Keep on posting!

Ulrich ....... I saw your scratch building thread. I did more of that in younger years while modeling the 1900 era. I still have some of the buildings from then. Now, many of my buildings are kitbashed..... One more thing...... I ran my fingernails up the side of a building. .. It was a "scratch building" .... Whistling .... Oh never mind!

Rob .... Don't work too hard. Find a little MRR time for sanity breaks.

Jerry ... I've not seen you in a few days, and hope hope you are okay. We care about you.

Cheers, everybody.

Evenin' folks!

Janie can I get a very hot cup of decaf?  Still clod around these parts!

High today was 58°F...  Whooppie!!!  Not even a glimpse of the sun either.  As Barry would say dark and dull.  Very, very, dark and exceptionally dull out there.  Want to know how bad it was here today?  Let me explain.  Two days ago the PV panels on my roof cranked out 30.06 kWh of power.  Today all she wrote was 2.32 kWh.  That doesn't even cover charging the PiP once, and and some days I charge it twice or more...  Dark, very dark!  We did get about 1.18" of rain though today.  Still coming down at the moment and will continue for most of tomorrow.

I actually did some hobby stuff for a bit tonight.  Created a sign for the power plant on Bare Mountain.  I would like to have it be a "painted" sign right on the side of the building, but it may have to be a wooden sign hung from the side of the building.  Not done yet, so I shall see.

See you all tomorrow "God willing and the creek don't rise".  Prayers for all in need!

Well the storm blew through and dumped a lot of rain and made a bunch of lightning strikes before it was finished. I went to my fathers place for pizza just after I shut down earlier. It was while I was there that the brunt of the storm hit. I waited it out then returned home. There's a dirt road between here and there and it was a mess! Even with a bunch of gravel and Arkansas blue stone pushed into it. There are plans to blacktop it but the needed grant hasn't come through. Fortunately I only have to drive over a short stretch of it. Got back here about 8:30. Power went out about 9:15. Came back on around an hour later. I tell you what, it's like a blackout in a coal mine in here when the power goes out at night. I have several electric lanterns here and I keep a good supply of batteries on hand for them for just such occasions. I also have a couple of LED headlights I can wear if I need or want to work on something. Well now that I've used up some of your time it's time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

For those who may sometimes wonder, my paint supply. It's latex and satin house paint mis-tinted samples that I get for 50¢ to $1 each. I filter it to remove the chunks and grains. That reduces the volume by 1/4 but I can thin it for use in my single action airbrush if I should desire to do so. Not as good as model paints but they work for me.

Morning coffee in the diner...

GOOD FRIDAY MORNING!!!!

Today is Friday, June 7th, 2013!!!

I wil light the prayer candles at 20 AM for those in need...

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!!

RODEO:

In 1882 in Pecos, Texas, a rancher offered $100 prizes each for bronco riding, bulldogging and roping. These were simply called  'cowboy competitions' or 'cowboy tournaments'.  A promoter in 1916 then decided to use the Spanish term for 'roundup'-'rodeo' { Rodeo is a form of the verb 'rodear'}- to sell tickets to the competitions. As the popularity grew, so have the prize monies, the gambling and the crowds

ro·de·o

[roh-dee-oh, roh-dey-oh] Show IPA noun, plural ro·de·os, verb, ro·de·oed, ro·de·o·ing.

noun
1.
a public exhibition of cowboy skills, as bronco riding and calf roping.
2.
a roundup of cattle.
3.
Informal. any contest offering prizes in various events: a bicycle rodeo for kids under twelve.
4.
( initial capital letter, italics  ) a ballet (1942) choreographed by Agnes de Mille, with musical score by Aaron Copland.
verb (used without object)
5.
to participate or compete in a rodeo or rodeos: He's been rodeoing since he was twelve

WRONG SIDE of the BED:
Let's face it, We live in  a right-handed world.   In the ancient world, the left-side of the body or anything "left" was considered sinister, mysterious, dangerous or evil.   {There are many similar expressions that begin t'he wrong side of ...', of which the original seems to be wrong side of the blanket for a child born illegitimately.} So, innkeepers pushed the left sides of the bed against the walls so that a guest HAD to get up on the right side.  Today, with queen and king sized beds situated in the center of a wall or room, most people get up on either side and don't think to much about it.  But the term today of "getting up on the wrong side of the bed" refers to someone who is grumpy, unsociable, irritable or clumsy, particularly in the morning, but can refer to all day long as well.

Our first tropical storm of the season is on its way to New England.  It's going to rain, but that's about all we'll see.  The lawn should like it.  But, good morning and happy Friday anyway.

Tomorrow is our first lobster dinner of the year.  Daughter Annie is coming home.  She has a summer job at college after graduating, and has her first apartment by herself.  She wants to pick up some things for it.

I picked up a pair of Tichy boxcar kits yesterday.  My plan is to use them for "Hides Only" service between the slaughterhouse and the tannery.  It was common practice to use an end-of-the-line boxcar for this sort of thing, as nobody else wanted to use a boxcar once fresh hides had been shipped in it.  Phew!

Nope, she needs the cord. Kinda like that Olympic sport where they had that iron ball at the end of a chain and swung it around their head then let'er fly. Pretty effective.Laugh

(This is in reference to the iron posts from yesterday. Seems when I quoted the last, it displayed them (the letters) vertically, instead of the traditional horizontal way we are used to reading therefore making it one of the longest by physical length posts I've seen. So, I just edited the stuff out, until it would post. I guess you can only quote so much before it whacks out on you.)

Good morning. It's 67° with 100% humidity. The high will be 88°.

We got plenty more rain last night and two more power outages between midnight and 3am. Today I'll work on the layout a little more. There's still plenty to clean up and put away.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of Vanilla Walnut Granola Cereal with fresh Blueberries, and several cups of dark roastr coffee in my R&GV RR mug, please and thank you!

Hmmm.  The sun was trying to peak through when I got up a couple hours ago, but has finally given up for the day I think.  Currently a dull 63°F outside with lots of clouds and some showers predicted.  I am waiting for the tree guy to come by and give an estimate on removing the Hemlock Hedge that has gotten way out of hand and is now blocking my path to get around the shed...  Hemlock was popular to use as a hedge for a few years back in the 1950s, about the time the house was built, so I figure it came with the house right from the beginning.  I plan to put up a 4' high fence in its place.  The neighbors agree it the best thing to do.  She will get more room to plant posies and I will likely put in some hostas and other shade loving stuff that won't take much care.

Flip, you are in my prayers for an easy time with the test and a good outcome!

I guess Galaxy got up on the Right side of the bed this morning as did Bill!

Barry, glad to hear you are on the mend!

Mr. Beasley, I'm hoping to be too far to the West to have to see much of Andrea! Smile, Wink & Grin

I will be heading out to Boy Scout camp this afternoon to do a sound check on a few mics with the new equipment.

Catch you all later!

The F unit quad has been weighed. I was surprised as it's heavier than I thought. The four units together weigh in at a whopping six pounds (96oz divided by 4 units = 24oz (1.5lb) per unit). No wonder it creates such a rumble when it goes by.

Well at least it does something for somebody besides me. That makes it worth having gone to the trouble of building it. I can remember seeing many of them in action when I was a kid. I'm already making plans to round up the parts to build another all-metal F3B and I'll be having an eye open for a good metal body for the lead unit. Right now it has a plastic shell. It gets it's weight from a massive lead super weight.

Good Morning!

... and it is a good morning! We are still enjoying beautiful Spring weather - not a cloud in sight, a mild breeze keeping the temperature at an enjoyable 22° C during the day. Not for me to enjoy though, I have to chair a party board meeting today Grumpy

I spent the last two days out on the streets in my hometown, collecting support in my constituency. We need 2,000 signatures to be able to participate in the general election in September - I got only 15 in those two days Crying. I hope my colleagues are doing better. Like in all democracies, most people seem to be uninformed and not really interested, yet complain about the bad guys "up there". Things must probably turn a lot worse than they are now, before the start to move their backsides for a change.

Flip - keeping my fingers crossed for your cardiac tests! Angel

Morning coffee in the diner...

GOOD SATURDY MORNING!!!

Today is Saturday, June 8th, 2013!!!

I will light the prayer candles at 10 AM for those in need...

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!!!

PASS THE BUCK:

Anyone who avoids making decisions or accepting responsibility is said to 'pass the buck'. This started in the 'old days' during card playing. A load of buckshot, or conversely, a BUCK knife- a knife with a buckhorn handle during the American Frontier time, is placed before someone who has to deal the cards.  The dealer has a lot of responsibility on determining the game's style. If a cautious player doesn't want this responsibility, he's allowed to "pass the buck" to the next player who will be the dealer.

Definition:

pass the buck:

to blame someone or to make them responsible for a problem that you should deal with yourself
Usage notes: In the card game poker, the buck is an object passed to the person who wins in order to remind them that they must be the first person to give money for the prize in the next game.

Bushed:

When you are totally exhausted you are often  said to be "bushed."  The term, first used int eh 14th century,  came from the Dutch settlers for the 'wilderness', but modified in English to "bush."  Clearing away forests was hard work and they often proclaimed after carving out a trail that they were bushed (exhausted).  Today the word means to be exhausted from anything that makes one extremely tired

Definition:

1. bushed

1. tired
2. tired of and baffled by trying to understand why George W. Bush is in the White House.
1. I got so bushed while shopping with my grandma for antiques.
2. These Diebold machines have bushed the nation.

Not to be confused with:

BEAT AROUND THE BUSH:

This comes from the old days of boar hunting in which the noblemen hired workers to walk through the woods beating the branches and making noises to get the animals to run towards the hunters.  Boars were dangerous animals with razor-sharp teeth . So the unarmed workers workers avoided the dense undergrowth where the boar might be and beat around the bushes, rather than going into them.  Thus, this evasive technique was coined "beating around the bush" and today represents anyone who avoids approaching anything directly or who avoids answering a direct question, to stall, or to waste time

Not to be confused with:

 BUSHWHACKED:

Definition of BUSHWHACK

transitive verb

: ambush; broadly   : to attack suddenly : assault

intransitive verb

: to clear a path through thick woods especially by chopping down bushes and low branches

bush·whack·er  noun

Examples of BUSHWHACK

  1. The group bushwhacked through the jungle.
  2. They used the controversy as an opportunity to bushwhack their political opponents.

Origin of BUSHWHACK

back-formation from bushwhacker
First Known Use: 1866

Good morning. It's 69° with 98% humidity. The high will be 88°.

The main item on my schedule today is to mow the grass. It's grown up pretty thick so it may take a while. If I feel like it later I'll work on the layout some more.

Good morning ....

I'll have coffee and a Barry sized carmel pecan roll please.

Barry ..... Perhaps your forgot to remember to think of what to remember not to forget. Whistling

Ulrich ..... Good luck with the signatures. I grew up near Chicago, and in that city you had to have the right connections. Then you just tell them how many signatures you need and magically the signatures are there for you. ... Perhaps, we should send Vinnie to Germany, and he could make arrangements. Smile, Wink & Grin

Galaxy .... Interesting phrases for us today. .... Who me? Beat around the bush? .... Nah....

I'll be making sawdust today for my layout extension. Also, I'm hoping some more decoders will arrive in the mail today.
