Happy Memorial Day!! Yes, it's that time again to remember those who fought before us,,but I have a question.....isn't it supposed to be warm out?? Brrrrrrrr!!! Very breezy and chilly here, even with bright sunshine! Went to the local VFD's carnival last night,with son #2 and his fiancee,,in jeans and a jacket! Brrrr!!

Memorial Day weekend here is more like Thanksgiving Week here with the weather!!! Yesterday only reached 43F, and The high today is only supposed to be 50s. I actually ran the heat yesterday and today! Tomorrow 60s for a high, hopefully Sunny too tomorrow! The old North Wind is a blowin'!
Snow was recorded on Thursday I guess it was, and that set a new record for the latest day in the calendar year for snow to fall here!!!
Had my father for Memorial Day dinner. Liver, onions and bacon. {I know some of you are going "ew". but we love it} He said about 2 months ago that he was looking for a good liver dinner..I told him the one diner that makes good liver, but marked in my memory that he was after a good liver dinner. Since MOH likes my liver too, I knew it was gonna be a hit! So that is what we had last night.
Was gonna plan the merry golds but not today's cold! will wait til tomorrow.if they didn't freeze last night and the night before...forgot to cover them! Both nights!

Morning All,
Currently 44 with an expected high of 72 under sunny and breezy skies.
Typical Sunday shift today 10 to 6, which is an opener and closer. The store was busy yesterday, a lot of foot traffic, but not much buying in the hunting firearms section, where I spend most of the time, as I am not a fisherman or into archery.
After gluing down some WS track bed and laying some track on the inner loop, noticed a VERY uneven joint where if I back up my Daylight passenger train, it derails. So I have to tear up that track and smoothe out that area. I thought I had it smoothe enough, guess I was wrong.
Jeff - Glad you got your stuff back and not too much damage to your other engine. I hope Wayne learned his lesson.

Good morning. It's 74° with 95% humidity. The high will be 85°.Despite all the excitement yesterday I did have some relaxation time. My niece and her husband were having a family get-together at their home yesterday with plenty of barbeque. It was very good. Today I'll be working on the F unit trio. I just have to put them back together and it should be running again by noon. I don't have any plans for anything else.

I can't understand what the appeal of them would be. They're just rebuilt junkers. They have some hand crafted parts but nothing that can't be easily reproduced by someone with the know-how to do it, which he clearly appeared not to have. These took me quite a while to build so I'm not giving them up. Perhaps he was thinking if I can't have them you can't have them either. Just because you can't make something doesn't mean you can't wreck it. It's easier to destroy something than it is to create something.

Ken, I have a friend(TA462) who buys and restores old muscle cars. I know he is looking for a few Mopars to add to his collection. If your serious about selling it let me know. $6000 seems kind of low if those pictures are of the car. He just came back from Kentucky with a 69 Charger.

Jim- Rural/small town folks are generally easier to befriend quickly. They're more wary and are a bit more stand-offish at first, but succumb more quickly to a friendly demeaner and a smile. Bigger city folks are less likely to let someone they don’t know in their house due to the crime they have, whereas like here in Williamsville we have very little crime if any other than your penny-ante stuff, like some kids bike's missing or some other kids car was broke into by more than likely one of his acquaintances from Springfield liked his stereo and then....came.....over late....one...... kind like Jeff's deal. Sorta. Anyway, so we just don’t think about it. Now that’s not necessarily true here any more (the not think of crime part. The low crime part is still true) due to our closing proximity to Springfield we are a bit more guarded than we used to be when I was a kid. Could be that you take a bigger chance among rural folk that you’ll be dealing with the end of a firearm that will hurt you too. Just throwin that out as a possibility.
Well it’s raining again and according to the forecast,it won’t dry enough between rains to mow until Tuesday, or “Tooze-day” as the Cherokee say when asked “how do you say Tuesday.”
Don’t know what I’ll do today to keep me from the choo choo room. Brenda has that evil eye going on like she’s waiting for me to start to do something I want to do so she can inflict another well aimed lobbing of a leisure time ending chore. Kinda like a wolf maintaining supremacy in the pack.
Didn’t dig any berries yesterday either cause well….I just didn’t feel like it. Rainy gloomy days do that to me. But talked to my little friend last night and she said she was fine with that, anytime will be ok and she’ll take as many as I give her as often as I want. I said good how about later this week. She said perfect, bring ‘em to w**k with you Friday, and I said ok. She replied……., I won’t hold my breath. I wonder what thaaaaaat meant?

It looks like I'll have the F unit trio back in operation tomorrow. The super glue never really adhered to the parts in the trucks. Most of it came out in chunks and the rest was easily pried out with a small screwdriver. Thank the slick plastic and the ATF oil for that. I broke a couple of side frames on the second unit but I have spares and they were easily replaced. Getting the glue out of the gear teeth was the hardest part but that too is done. The trio should be running again by noon.It's been a hectic day for me and it's past time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow which hopefully will be a normal day.

JaBear - yep, I might qualify as a 'modified' optimist (Lessee - how was it Reagan said? "Trust & verify?" or something like that...) (AKA there are no perfect people - on this earth, anyway). After you mentioned the Lone Star place south of Cape, I looked at it and was surprised to see the quarry with the conveyor across/over the street from the part I've been by (which I think is more of an office where I would pick up outgoing packages years ago when I w**ked for Airborne Express - now DHL - as a driver one summer). That is way bigger than I realized. Oh, the word in this part of the USA around Todd we might call "prairie" (as in "Plywood Prairie," a term which you may have heard in MRR circles...)

Ken, you reminded me - I wasn't sure if I had mentioned that I did (finally...) see my Missouri tax refund arrive in the credit union account. (I owed on the federal income tax this year (due to not having enough taxes taken out of my Soc.Sec. checks - ah, well...) But have adjusted that for this year and the 2013 return. And as for E.T. (Tyler, that is, not the funny-looking one that phones home...), I think ET's head has more derailments and messed-up-ness than the BNSF-UP wreck that we had south of here recently. (Saw about that, that it was the third derailment this year - okay, this last one was actually a wreck; somebody did not check the turnouts before proceeding, I suspect)

Daughter & SIL got back tonight; I had replaced a burned out flood lamp in one of 2 kitchen ceiling sockets for them, and picked up another box of Joey (their dog)'s moist dogfood (so they wouldn't have to go to the store for it). Have been 'dog-sitting sorta, while they were on vacation to Florida (beach trip, rather than Disney World, to which I think they have gone earlier).
About time for me to head back for bedtime, so I'll catch up the rest of the way tomorrow, I hope.

Aaaaaahhhhhhh! Feels good to sit down and relax for a bit. Janie just a cup of decaf for me tonight!
Spent most of the day over at my son's house today, or at least with them. Went over early this morning to follow them over to see the girls march in the Pee-raid. By the the time we got got there the Village of Waterloo, NY was already full and there weren't any parking places left. The girls and mom got to the where the Girl Scout troop was forming up and my son and I left to get a parking spaces within an easy walking distance. He managed to get the last parking spot downtown and I parked about half a mile down the street and had to walk back up to the center of town.
Waterloo, being the birthplace of Memorial Day goes all out for the weekend! Today was the main (several mile long) parade with most everything you would expect: Horses, Bands, old cars, fife and drum corp, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, about a dozen or so old John Deere tractors of the two cylinder type (local Club) fire engines, Motorcycles, Ambulances. They had floats for every branch of the armed services and something for every war we have ever been in as a country except the War of 1812, and nobody ever celebrates THAT one! There was the Revolutionary War, the Civil War complete with freed slaves, the first World war, the second World War, a large contingent of Veterans from the Korean Conflict, many still able to walk while the others rode on a flatbed truck. Then came the Vietnam war, the war in Iraq (both of them), Afghanistan, and some ones we haven't been in yet (as the guys holding the rifles were between the age of 6 and 10 I think)..... This was followed by my running into and shaking hands with a state politician who had marched in the parade and was now running up and down the street shaking everyone's hand in hopes of going back to Albany for his 20th or so term.... On a serious note the group that was the most thought provoking and got a huge ovation as they passed by was the veterans that are wheelchair bound from the Veterans Hospital in Canandaigua, NY. There were a lot of them... Keeps us mindful of the cost.......
All this was followed by reuniting with DIL and the Granddaughters whereupon we had lunch at the Rotarian Booth. My son and I took off for his house in my car and DIL and the girls decided to stay for a bit longer. I then went home to mow the lawn as is proper protocol for Memorial Day weekend around these parts. Then I headed back over to son's house for supper! Have to be at the Museum tomorrow so I will be heading to catch some shortly.
Family was going over for the Fireworks display tonight. Actually the events there started yesterday and will continue with everything from the above to the firing of a Black Powder Cannon several times each day, a 5K run, Civil War Church Service, Classic and Antique Car show, Horse and Wagon Rides, Concerts, Boat tours, Wine Tastings, and a Veterans Biker Rally on Monday to name just a few of the over 50 different events. Did I mention they go all out for this weekend?

Well I have my stuff back. Here's the apparent item of the guys desires. I guess I can't blame him. It is somewhat unique in that there's not another one like it. He had wrapped it in some paper towels so he was trying to protect it.

Been outside shaping the loads for my 20 Thrall gons. The Athearn RTR one I got arrived yesterday and the coal load that came with it looks like mine anyways, so it stays. Tomorrow I'll see about getting a large can of flat black paint. I'd use up like 3 of the tubes of cheap dolllar store craft paint for them all. And I still have to make the 13 loads for my Walther's cars coming in, and do some of the MDC 3-bays I have.
Jeff, That's kinda weird someone would do that, but at least you're getting your stuff back. I still have no idea on who stole the horns off of my F45 and SD45...
I now have 2 C30-7s and an ATSF SD40-2 there. The GEs have horns with a long tab that is bent over inside the shells and CA'd in place. The SD40-2 has a small pin pin going through the horn peg on the inside. They aren't coming off without taking them apart...

My Day, well I was off so that part was good. Cashed the Tax Refund Check and scored $310.50 in half dollars! Have yet to go through all of them, so far only $60.00 or so. I wounder if I will ever finishes my Kennedy Half Dollar collection? Stopped by a local Pawn Shop today and found out silver prices had dropped. Was able to pick up a 1965,1966, 1967 and 1968D Kennedy half's for $4.00 each! Couple years ago I had to sale the same Pawn shop the same dates and got $5.50 each so in a way I made a profit.
Train Front Got the PK2 B&O GP 30 speed matched to the B&O PK2 SD 7 and 9 today. The GP 30 still moans, guess I will live with it. I wounder if the other B&O GP 30's will moan as well? I sure hope not.
Selling My 68 Road Runner? Not sure beyond a doubt yet, but I think it is time. Kind of a earth shattering event to me. Mom and Dad bought the car new and I was 12 then, I got it when I was 17. Young guy named Gino left a note asking me if it was for sale. We have talked a few times on the phone. He is 28 years old and not super car smart but not stupid. He told me to throw out the first number and I did at $6,000.00. He wants to meet me Monday and is bring cash. Will see how much cash, right now I am not hurting for money.
We will see, I have not been trying to sale the car, but I finally realizes I will never work on her again. I have told him if he uses anything bigger than 15 inch wheels on the car I will hunt him down and hurt him! Is it time to let go? Not sure yet.

I've been working on the trucks and I got lucky. They're very slick plastic and there's enough lube that the glue couldn't stick real good. I'm able to easily pry most of it loose and it's coming off of the gears real good. If this keeps up I'll have the trio back in operation by Monday. The Kato/Stewart trucks are being a bit of a problem as the glue set around the anchor points on the side frames. If I have to break one or two off that's OK as I have a few replacements. I'm told I should have my stuff back in a couple of hours. From now on nobody visits without being invited and they're going to be watched every second. No more open house.

Jeff, I sure hope they (so to speak, not advocating any vigilante justice, deserved as it may be at times...) that they - police, preferably, catch him. So the jerk can get a record, to follow him if he moves elsewhere and tries to pull that kind of stunt again. Then when the police go checking on him in the new locale, they'll have even more ammunition to put him away on charges for a longer time...
And that about the glue in the gearing? That's just plain stupid, mean and spiteful (fits in with your impression of him as a newbie who doesn't know much at all about MRR'ing). Appears he either didn't have somebody to teach him very well (or that he didn't listen, if they did).
