GMTRacingGood Luck and happy hunting. J.R.
Thanks for the info J.R. I found a good video on YouTube that explains it very well. I really don't know why I want one except MOH and I rode one back and forth to her folks when we were first married. Good memories I suppose

***Ulrich, that looks like a very nice facility. Hope it all works out for them and they grow content with the change.
I used the sports car (mini excavator) to dig out the broken and rusting barn gate today. Hired hand got the new cattle gate in place, along with many other jobs which needed doing. He'll be back tomorrow to work on other repairs and return to building more perimeter fence. Good worker!
Hope everyone is doing well.
Cheers! Rob
Evening All,
Had a pork chop for supper tonight. MOH won't be home until late same as tomorrow.
I will probably head up to the hobby shop tomorrow. Phil left me some cars that I need to pick up. Went to Wally World today to pick up a few things. When I got home I scratch built 2 platforms for the private coal trestle (have wanted to for awhile). I think it is my first complete scratch built project.
Ulrich- The facility looks nice. I assume the playground is for grandchildren visits. Hopefully you and Petra can now rest for awhile.
Ray- Hope the dentist visit went well.
Rob- I'm glad you are getting good help around your place.
Ken- I'm sorry about your trials with BOS. Years ago I banked with them but left quickly because of lack of customer service.

Hi Fellas,
Curt : that trestle does look good.
Well, I had my first day today at the new place and loved it ( well as much as you can love a job I guess ). There is as much overtime as I want to. We had to have a meeting today and it was in a meeting room. About half way through I had to stand as I couldn't sit anymore. When I was a kid I hurt my tailbone while tobogganing down a hill, I hit it with a GT racer and went flying landing right down on top of the steering wheel. Whatever I did has caused me pain ever since when sitting in those plastic chairs you would find in a lunch room or break room. Anyways, I'm sure they were wondering " Why is this guy just standing",lol. I figure if they were to ask me I would just tell them that those chairs and my butt don't agree, lol. Like I was saying this morning I was up at 2am as I couldn't sleep. So hopefully I crash tonight.
Take care and see you all tomorrow.
Thank you everyone.

BoS and Green Path Confreres Call. Well it was stupid but it was with BoS so what can you except? Really the only thing Green Path and I got out of the call was my house has not been flagged to be foreclosed on yet. Plus the Modification has never been sent to a underwriter to be rejected yet! Reason you ask? Because they want statements from Sues SSI payments , but Illinois does not give you a statement, just a letter of entitlement which they all ready have!

Well my joints have been burning all day. The Aleve I took eased it somewhat but it's finally worn me down. I did some work on one of the FP7's earlier today, trying to work out some of the motor noise. I haven't tested it yet. I also worked on the primer gray FP7 filling in the gaps in the drill holes where the grabs and rails were put in. Modeling clay has so many uses.Tomorrow I'm going to take my modem to the Suddenlink office in town and exchange it for a new one and see if that puts an end to the problem I'm having with my IP dropping out.Well, it's time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Been a long day around here. Had the dentist appointment, and now have one more (temporary) crown and a hole filled. I am also about $1,500 poorer.... After I got home, I grabbed a couple items and headed down to church with a receipt for the microphone I just donated to them. The sound man is also the financial officer there , he said the mic worked beautifully last Sunday. Then headed over and got my allergy shot, then to the Natural Food store to get coffee, chocolate bars, and bag of dried fruit so I spent enough to get a 10% discount. The kid checking me out at the cash register asked me my name and got the file for free coffee when you have bought x number of pounds and asked me my name. He got my file out and the light bulb went on. Came back to the register grinning and asked me if I was still teaching Music. I asked him what building he was in when I taught him and said, "One of my fourth graders, huh?" he grinned and said, "yep!" He is the son of the owner of the store.... I told him they let me out 12 years ago for good behavior... He started to laugh and told me I hadn't changed a bit.
Tonight I finished and filed my taxes. Turbo Tax finally got the form for the rebate on the car updated so I could finish and file them. I shall be getting a nice bunch of $$$ back due to the car and the stuff on the roof. Will lessen what I owe the Credit Union a bit. Remember I was the guy jumping up and down celebrating being completely debt free a couple years ago.... Oh well!
Tomorrow I will be printing out the MLK Scholarship forms and taking them over to the High School. Saturday I have a mandatory training class (if I want to work train crew again this summer), and Sunday I should pout in an appearance at church. No time to play with trains this last week, but I have gotten a lot accomplished I think.
Ulrich, the new place for your parents looks and sounds great. I hope they end up loving the place! I hope you and Petra can have some peace and quiet soon as well.

Hey y'all. Finally getting to stop in here, and its flipping March already! Sheesh, seems like just last week was the middle of January and I was in here more regularly. Ok, enough of that.
Things have been well here, now that everyone is finally over the varying stages and iterations of Martian Death Flu (or whatever's been going around down here). Haven't been able to do a doggone thing with my MRR projects, but that's all right for now as I am going to be making time for it here in a week or so. I have, however, been able to put together a good list of the things I need for various MRR projects involving the cars and locomotives I have...
On my work front, things have been going excellently, and I'm still loving it, so much so that my boss still tells me that he's going to be sending me for a drug test because he thinks I'm on something (just naturally cheerful when I'm at work).
Welp, that's about it for me, I'll try to get in here tomorrow morning after I put Heather (the 6 year old) on the big cheese wagon to go to school tomorrow.
BTW, Ulrich, so is the playground for visiting children, or for the adults to play on? Either way, it looks like fun!
Hey gang, how is going! got off work, probably gonna stay up a bit longer. Jeff those FP7's must be the workhorses of the "fleet." Ken, Nice warbonnets! Curt, nice scratchbuild I'm gearing up to finish that rotary plow that I've been working on and off on.

Good morning. Whoa boy do I feel off today. I'm just not feeling like myself for some reason. Not sick, nothing hurts,.........
Good Morning!!!
Coffee and a ham and pineapple sandwich please. Thanks. What? I don’t know why I didn’t have one in Hawaii. Didn’t think of it until this morning I guess.
Sunny, with a high near 45.
Ulrich- The parents place looks nice. Especially the slide. I bet on nice days there’s a line for that one. I know it’s hard, and it hurts, but understand it’s the mental issues that make them say the things they do.
Bama- Tell me about it. Winter was supposed to be MRing time. Didn’t happen and I don’t know where “winter time” went.
Best get my taxes started or I’ll run out of time with that.
Hey, got one wall cut for the building. Oh, I replaced the station and started with Uptown, or downtown number one or two. Can’t remember. It’s the one with the restaurant on the corner. Ray has it. Hopefully I’ll cut the floor today and maybe get some paint on the floor tiles. Much of my paint dried up too. Guess I didn’t have that great of a seal on them. Oh well.
Don’t know what today will bring. Yesterday was pretty uneventful and I’m hoping today will be as well.
Best throw a load of laundry in.
Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Lunchtime!
We just enjoyed a nice lunch at our favorite Chinese restaurant - for the price of two burgers & fries. This was my birthday present to Petra, as both of us were ill at her birthday last month.
Todd & all others - the place my parents stay in is run by the German Red Cross. There are many different facilities in that building, which is much larger than shown on the picture. Aside from a nursing home and assisted living, there is a kindergarten, a day care center and a vocational school for handicapped persons. Their concept of taking care of our elders differs a lot from the usual places - they believe in integration instead of segregation. They offer a lot of activities to keep the old folks busy and happy. Works nicely.
I took my parents´ TV set to them, so they now can enjoy some entertainment. My parents´ car has another flat tire, so I was glad to get my friend Lothar´s car for that trip. I hate it, but I will have to order two new winter tires for a car I don´t want to have...
Have to talk my Dad into selling this one and get a decent one... There is a Volkswagen Polo I have set my eyes on. The Polo is not (yet) sold in the US. It is only slightly smaller than the Golf, but a lot cheaper - suits me fine!
Have a good one!

Good morning. It's 39° with 95% humidity. The high will be 70. It's looking like it will be a warm but cloudy day and we may have rain this weekend. Well yesterday I worked on one of the 70's era FP7's in an attempt to quiet down the motor noise coming from it and it most definitely is the motor making it. It runs good and pulls well. It's quiet enough running by itself but put a load on it and it develops a load hum. This one may become a parts source for others needing repair or it may be fodder for a future project. If I get a wild urge to remotor something it may get picked. I have an Athearn motor from an SD45 that I could shoehorn in. I put an Athearn blue box motor into an Atlas FP7 last year and that loco runs very well now. As I remember I had to cobble together the drive shafts for it from Athearn and Life-Like parts. Sometime this morning I'll be taking my modem to the Suddenlink office and exchange it for a new one. Hopefully that'll stop the dropout problems I've been having. That's so irritating to have the IP signal just vanish and have to power down and restart the modem to get it going again. My joint pain is still with me, mostly in my arms, ribs, neck and back. It doesn't feel like a pinched nerve. This has a different feel to it, like my joints are on fire. The docs don't seem to know what it is and I don't think they want to know. All they do is throw pills at it and suggest things that don't work. Right now Aleve is my best friend.
Good Morning All,
30F and s**wing on and off. Not much sleep last night with the security system in the shop giving false alarms repeatedly. Have a service call in with the provider so we'll hope it's easy. I didn't see any physical issues when I inspected the system other than a bad battery in one of the motion/ir dectectors.
We were supposed to get 1-4" of the fluffly white stuff last night as well but I noticed it was coming down pretty heavily later in the evening (morning?) We got up to find 10" - 12" on the ground this morning and oh did I mention I left my high top boots in the Kenworth down in Fla. No fun shovelling in low cut w..k shoes. Still no progress on the layout this week but I'm hopeful for a couple of hours this weekend.
Bama - good to see you back in and hopefully over the creeping crud or martian death flu or what ever has been going around. I was lucky not to catch the Austrailian version I guess as none of the shots seem to affect it.
Jeff - is that the former RI rocket in primer?
Ulrich - I haven't caught up posts but assume you finally got through to your parents about the assisted living thing? The new place looks nice. Unfortunately you have lots of whinging to look forward to from dear old Mom as she will be opposed to her new situation until she realizes it's for the better and gets used to it. My grandmother broke out repeatedly from the facilities my aunt and uncle placed her in until they found one that wasn't near a bus line LOL. We Hungarians are a stubborn lot (would you attack tanks with rocks?) and Granny remained defiant until they found a competent home where she was comfy. Anyway our prayers for you and may you and Petra stay strong through it.
Time to get some tools in hand and accomplish something. Catch y'all later, J.R.

Morning All,
Currently 31 with an expected high of 43 with a slight chance of percipitation.
I have an opening shift today so maybe get a little w**k on the layout this evening. This is my weekend off, snd I made no plans with anyone, so I may really get some layout w**k in. Been working on the small 3 track yard and runaround. Maybe even take some pics.
Ulrich - Nice loking place for your parents. I know it is is hard to listen to your mom gripe, even knowing that it is not really her talking. We went through that with my m-i-l

Sitting here watching a old movie. I was planning on running up to the LHS but Jon isn't answering his phone. It's about a 70-80 minute round trip so I never go until I call, since he also works building layouts and Jon does not open the shop when he does this.
I am on my own for supper again tonight. MOH is going to a home purse show? I think I see waffles in my future.
Ulrich- That is a nice looking car.
Ray- Ouch! That is part of the reason I hate going to the dentist.
Hope everyone has a good day and prayers for those in need.
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, just another cup of dark roast coffee, please.
Been busier than a cat covering poop on a marble floor this morning... Got Scholarship applications and the poster about same printed and have them ready to go out this afternoon, did a load of wash (I am completely out of clean clothes so it had to be a priority), and have cleaned up several piles of cat vomit on the dining room floor. Sorry about that, but that is what I did. Not sure which cat left them for me, but I think it was Manét. They will be both getting the hairball remedy at lunch time. Blackie came out and climbed up on the play house I built for them to enjoy some sunshine this morning. He appears to be feeling good at the moment.
Checked the solar panel output when I was down cellar for the wash. It was putting out 3900+ watts of power! The little wheel on the meter is turning very fats, it is. Since the system is rated at 4200 watts, that is very good production. Oh yeh, the mostly cloudy predicted for this morning wasn't! It has been bright outside so far. Nice to see every once in a while.
Hope all of you are having a great day!
Later!

Went to the Suddenlink office and got my new modem. From there I went to Lowe's to get a couple of packs of small brass wood screws (2x3/8 slotted). Spent a whopping $2.76 on those. They're the closest thing to 2/56 screws I can find here and are dirt cheap. Well, upon getting home I opened the box from Suddenlink and found a modem, power cord and LAN cable. Not an instruction sheet in sight! My last modem was USB. It used an A/B USB cable. I looked at the USB port on this new modem, it's an A port meaning I needed an A/A cable. Guess what I don't seem to have a spare of? I had no intention of making a run back to town to get a that I can't afford in the first place. So I looked at the modems LAN port. Hah! There are FOUR of them! Obviously it has a built-in router as well. So I connect the LAN cable to port #1 as that seems the obvious thing to do then connected the other end to my computers LAN port. I pulled up the Network Connections page and attempted to make a new connection. LAN PORT NOT FOUND! I looked at the system monitor and the LAN port is non-op. I checked the driver status. No driver. The LAN port is as dead as my social life! I looked for the CD that came with main board and naturally I can't find it anywhere. It's just an old RTL8102. How hard could it be to write a driver? Time to put those years as a tech and programmer to use. I consulted some of my old books on the program protocols of such drivers then wrote a general LAN driver and assigned it to the LAN port. Restarted the system and went through the process of making a new connection and the LAN port came alive. The modem came up and I was online! That was the first driver program I'd written in years and the first for XP. I put my books away and guess what I found? A USB A/A cable AND the driver CD for my main board! Naturally right when I DON'T need them. This modem is a nice looking thing, festooned with green and blue LED's. Hummm! LED's! That's got me thinking evil thoughts. I better end this.
Good afternoon. No work tonight, so I at least have the evening to myself for a little bit.
Had Zoot Suit Riot stuck in my head all day. Don't know why, but I think it has something to do with Jazz Band.
