Greetings from Palmerstton North,
Check out Kiwi Rail >com for some more snow clearing. Impressive.
Went touring today to the west coast and to a volcano. Cool drive on twisty roads - beautiful scenery.

Cederstrand***Ken, I have been watching videos of locomotive clearing snow and I'm blown away how some of the modern diesels can not only move a lot of snow, but leave such a perfectly clear and wide path behind them. Pretty impressive stuff.
Yep Rob you made me show my next picture!
Good Morning Dinners it is Tuesday!

Evening Dinners
Flo, Beer pleases.
It seems that many of us are having problems from, employment, health, family health or lost of a love ones. But there are have been bight spots, making new friends, helping friends, joys of grand children, birth of a child. But that is what the dinner is about, life rather it be good or bad. That is what you do with friends, share!
I was going to complain about how cold it was today at 24 degrees with a stiff wind. But after seeing Lee post -41 degrees with wind chill I feel like I am in a heatwave!
Ken
Good evening.
I returned from Nashville a couple of hours ago.
Jeff .... Continued prayers for your family. We Diners are hear for you. Let you Dad know we care about him too.
Ulrich ... I'm sad to hear about your family. Prayers for you Dad, your mother. your sister, and yourself. (I hope Petra is okay)
I will always remember when Shelley and I were with her sister as her sister passed away in 2007. The pastor was with us, and he said a beautiful prayer. While the pastor said "Amen", the hospital monitor signaled she breathed her last breath. At that exact moment, the Lord took his child.
I am aware of several health concerns of different Diners. Also, I am aware, some of the diners are still grieving the loss of loved ones.
I will dispatch the Chapel Car to the diner now for those who wish to pray.
If it's okay, I would like the Chapel Car to be open for praises, too. I have one of those if you don't mind. I went to the heart doctors in Nashville today for appointments. I'm pleased to say it was a good report. My heart failure is not worsening. That is good because the next step would be a transplant. The electronic stuff implanted in my chest is performing flawlessly. I lost 12 pounds in the past 6 months. I'm thankful. Praise the Lord. .... (Now, I can keep bothering the DIners.)
Below is my Chapel Car coupled to a dining car.

Chamomile tea, please.
Was not up to much of anything today. Kinda one of those mandatory forced rest days. Not my preference.
Looking at the various choices for (HO) logging locos. Along with the Shay, Climax, and Heisler, another consideration is the newer Mantua articulated logger. Only looking for one of these locos for my layout. Seems Mantua has overhauled their old model so I'm wondering if the new ones run and sound good? And what about the re-worked little Goat switcher? With additional tender pickup, DCC and sound, might they be a decent (usable) switch engine now? Anyone have experience with any of these mentioned above?
Good night all.
Evenin' folks!
Janie, just a cup of decaf please...
Ahhhhh, a very long and busy day. I will say a very long, busy, but also successful day. Record attendance at all the events we put on for the MLK Day. Had 220 people for the March from the Public Safety Building here. Packed the large Methodist Church for the service, and it took over an hour to get everyone through the serving line for the dinner.... Even made a record with the Art and Poetry Contest. Of the 22 winners, only 4 were not there to publicly receive there certificate at the service. I am exhausted!
Jeffrey, I remember all too well how difficult it was do all the moving of things after my Mom died. Took my sister and I months at my parents house to clean up the property after my Dad passed. They saved everything! Also the things you said earlier are spot on in those circumstances. There is both a sense of terrible loss and a sense of relief at the same time. Keeping your and yours in my prayers during this time!
Ulrich, my prayers go out to you as well. You have a difficult role to play with your family, but I know you have the strength do what is needed. Be blessed my friend!
Think I'm going to head to bed soon.
Have a good and safe night out there!

Alright the layout sold, from that I bought a montana rail link GP9 and Caboose. I'm debating on whether or not I want to buy a fleischmann 2-10-0 from a gentleman, I have the money on my paypal but I'm not sure if I want to spend it.

Jeff I know how tough that is to have to "clean out" her belongings. I ghad some friends who kindly came over and removed some of my wifes clothes and some of her personnel items. That was a really tough day.
Uhlrich - will lift you and yours up in prayer. I do not know if you remember this or not but soon after I joined this site we lost some friend at work one right after another. You were one of the first ones to invite me into this post. I will be forever grateful for that. I will lift up some extra prayers for you tonight.
Thanks to all for being such good friends here.
Jeffrey, Deb and I extend our deepest condolances.
Prayers for you and your family.

Again Jeff, sorry for your loss.
Well its cold out tonight -11c but feeling closer to -20c. Overnight its going to be -16c but feeling like -29c. I always worry that a pipe will end up bursting in the street and flood me out in the process. That's my dumb luck, lol. I guess that's why we have insurance.
I start that job at 9am tomorrow so wish me luck guys . I think im just going to go have a cool glass of water and watch the hockey game.
Well today we got my mothers room at the nursing home cleared out. That's been about the extent of my day.
Hey Jeff........sorry to hear about you mom.
I lost my dad back in July 2009........sometimes I remember it as if it just happened.

Ulrich: I hope things go well for your father. He's sounding like my mother was, going down more each day until she could hardly pick up a cup without spilling it. We knew the end wasn't long in coming. That didn't make it any easier. However when it came it was almost a relief. I know what you're going through and I'm with you.

Good Evening!
It´s not been a good day today. I spend hours on the phone with both my Mom and my Dad. He does not show any signs of improvement, actually, his condition is getting worse hour by hour, as he has given up on himself. Unfortunately , there is no way I can be with my parents, as we are in the midst of a snow storm, turning driving into a hazard.
Adding to it, I had a very unpleasant conversation with my sister, who still believes she will return into her own apartment, which she won´t. There is no way she could possibly manage her own life, but refuses any move into a nursing home. He mental disorder keeps her from accepting reality. I had to initiate a court hearing on her case, which I had hoped to be able to avoid.
It´s one of those days I wished I hadn´t got up in the morning.
Prayers for Jeff and his family and blessings to all in need!
well, my layout has sold the gentleman who bought it received the invoice hopefully. with that money I will buy myself an Montana Rail link GP9 and Caboose, maybe another BN SD or BNSF SD70Ace. then the rest will go to code 55 track.

Jeffery: My heartfelt sympathies on the death of your mother. Having been through the deaths of both my parents and both my wife's parents I know how hard this is on you. It will take time and as Jerry said, birthdays and holidays will be the worst times. It will get better as time goes on, though.
CNCharlie: What did we do to deserve this deep freeze? We sure got spoiled by last year's nice mild winter. The temperatures are bad enough but the wind chill is absolutely brutal. I can't blame your wife for not wanting to stand at a bus stop and watch full busses zoom right past her. I took the bus to work back in the 1980s and had to watch full busses pass me by while standing out in the cold or getting on a bus that was so packed I couldn't make it all the way up the steps. Boy am I glad I don't have to go through that any more!

Very sorry to hear about your mother. I know the pain having lost my own mother and recently my wife (still havent been able to tackle cleaning out her all of her stuff) you will have some tough days ahead. Holidays, birthdays and such will be tough as you face them the first time. Just know that your friends here care and offer up prayers for you and yours. And if you just need a sounding board we are here. Sorry I did not offer this earlier. Been under the weather and just logged in.
Jerry
Jeffery, so sorry about hearing about your mother passing. I wish there was something I could say that would make you feel better, but there is nothing that will.
Ken, your friend
Good Morning,
Jeff, so sorry to hear of your loss. It is a tough time but family and keeping busy do help.
A very cold morning here with a windchill of -42 and that is the same C or F. Amazing that cars run at all. I had to carry the dog in from doing his business this morning. When their paws get really cold they just stop moving rather than run for the house.
Well have to get off to work. I'm a little late as I'm driving my wife this morning as waiting at a bus stop isn't much fun in this weather. She has a very short ride but sometimes the buses don't stop since she waits at the last stop before the uni.
CN Charlie
Good morning. It's 38° with 100% humidity and patchy fog. It'll be cloudy with a high of 68°.I went to the hospital last night with my nephew to be with the rest of the family beside my mothers death bed. It would be my last time to see her. From there she was picked up and transported to the crematorium. Later today we'll be clearing out her room at the nursing home. We still have to consider what to do with her belongings. The house is loaded with antiques. She was an avid collector of antiques. She also kept nearly every book she ever bought. There's tons of them in the library in the old half of the house. But the hobby she dearly loved was ... wait for it ... shopping! Especially for clothes! The closets are loaded with clothes she bought. Most of them have never been worn and still have the tags on. She never intended to wear them. She bought them simply for the joy of buying them. Why not? She had the money to afford it. Me, I'm poor as dirt. She owned a lot of the property out here. Oh, and Imelda Marcos thought she had tons of shoes? There's enough shoes down there to supply shoe stores in five states! With all that stuff Helping Hands, The Salvation Army and wherever else we take it all to are going to be beside themselves with joy! They'll probably have to close for a week to inventory it all! That is after the family picks through it all. If it isn't electronic or doesn't have flanged wheels I don't want it.No layout plans for today.
nscaler711wait what DECALS?!? i thought you painted them.... didnt think they made decals for handrails...
jeffrey-wimberly That was done with decals. I have no idea from where.
