Zoe, I'm still hungry (I think...). Could I have one of those cinnamon rolls, and a refill on my coffee, please? Thank you!

MononJim, it sounds good that you're getting a chance to get "re-acquainted" with the hobby today. Smile, Wink & Grin

I was able to get (most of) the snow off my car, get by BK and get breakfast to go, and made it in to the office only 15 minutes late. Sigh And it looks like most of the staff didn't make it in - one of our doctors did, but none of our support staff ladies who usually answer the phones, go over the initial paperw**k with new people, etc. Which means if somebody new to us comes in, we have no one who is trained to go over what should be on the forms (and what should be signed), and thenput their stuff into the computer (before I see them...). So wonder how we'll manage that? My co-w**ker today is mostly stuck at home (if we get busy, he could call his father to get him here...). So I know I won't be going out of the office today at all (which would leave no one here to cover walk-ins/crisis). We'll see if my 3 o'clock makes it in this afternoon or not. [Edit:] The 3 o'clock person called and cancelled.

Making a snowman sure sounds like more fun, though (or following MononJim's idea, staying home and seeing about some MRR stuff)...Whistling

TA462 &/or Barry, I have been thinking about getting one of those 'smarter-than-the-owner' phones, but the thing for me that's holding me back is not as much the phone cost (high though it may be), but the ongoing cell bill (and all the little add-on fees they can find to stick ya with...). That, and which carrier to select (I abhor the DeathStar company, having had poor response from them when they had my home phone and DSL; not wild about Verizon's plan either, and not sure how tolerable - or not - Sprint's coverage is in this part of the country). So I'll sit on the fence for a bit longer. (Yeah, I'm not on FacelessBook (home of lax security/privacy) either, but I'm not a complete technophobe).Wink

Todd, I think you are likely not alone in 'weaseling' out of that mall question; probably a fair number in here who - if you took a survey - might've answered about like that. Those perfumey bottles don't come cheap, especially when you compare the price and the fraction of a cup/pint that they hold. Taking the better part of the day to put Brenda's desk together sounds about right (if you can get away with it)Whistling

Lee, not to worry - I'm sure, with the usual track of fronts up the Ohio River/Appalachians, that your area will get a bit of the white stuff.

Wonder if Jeffrey's power is out today - last night, he was saying they'd had some outages, and he hasn't been in yet today. Could have got more precip. after it dropped to 32 F last night, and froze on power lines or such. Hopefully he is safe, regardless. Angel

Robby, a new airbrush sounds like a good (and for you, verrrrry useful) present! Don't underestimate that combination of your good w**k ethic, and your group leaders lobbying for you. You may be back on the job sooner than you'd think! YeahThumbs Up

Ray - your Christmas Day was fairly eventful (and yummy!). A few pleasant surprises, too. Smile Watch out for your share of the white stuff, which may be showing up in the next day or two.

Ken, I doubt that your sister would think that even half of what some of us have spent on our layout was (in her opinion...) "worth it." I have another reason I've been holding off on getting a cell phone though - if I did and w**k knew it, there would be times they'd want to call me on my day off to cover for somebody who came down sick or otherwise couldn't cover everything. (IMHO) Sometimes a fella doesn't need to be reachable 24X7! Oops, better stop now before that soapbox comes creeping out of its corner.. Oh, Ken - great snow shot there! Smile

PATom, that bunny sounds cute - post a photo once you see it. Yep, the kids tend, as you said, to make out on Christmas gifts like the proverbial bandito. Big Smile

By the way, for those of you who are likely to get sn*w out of this weather front, it looks like it's good for making sn*wballs, sn*wmen, etc. Just don't pack the sn*w too snug or you may wind up with an iceball! Surprise

I'll be at the window booth a while - love to watch the switcher in the sn*w!

Blessings,

Jim in Cape G.

Good morning everybody,

I see everyone has reported having a nice Christmas with family and friends, not to forget all the great meals. We were busy at our house, with 8 adults and 5 little ones (5 to 12) here for dinner and the exchange of gifts. The kids all made out like bandits. My nephew's three kids were absolutely beside themselves with joy and couldn't wait to tell us about the new bunny Santa delivered. Yep, somekind of a dwarf bunny, black with a little brown. I can't wait to see it myself as it does look really cute in the photos they showed us. My nephew reports that it is really sociable and likes to sit in anyone's lap. The wife was really pleased with all the cloths I got her, as well as a large gift card for Barnes & Noble, She listens to audio books as she isn't able to read any longer. So that gift always go over big.

We went and had breakfast this morning. I'm trying to get in as many as I can before the joint closes down at the end of the year. Anyway, it started to rain lightly while we were there, and by the time we got home, a little ice was starting to build up on the walks and driveway. 30 Minutes later the snow started. Probably a little more than an inch out there right now. But they are calling for 3 to 5 inches by this afternoon. If it keeps coming down like it is, we might get more. Going to wrap this up for now as we need to get the house put back together and vacumn up all those little itty bitty pieces of wrapping paper that are all over the place. Looks like this might be the first year someone didn't leave one of their presents behind by accident. if so, it will be a first. Have a great day.

 Good Morning!

 Flo, Bill sizes Coffee

TA462

Ken, why not take that TV back and see if you can get a better one.   Walmart has some bigger and better TRUE HDTV 1080p TV's that have better sound on sale for the same price as that one you bought.   The problem with the sound can't be fixed by adding speakers to it.  I looked at the speaker output and its only one watt a side.  Stand alone DVD players are dirt cheap now days if she really wants a DVD player, Blu Ray players have even come down in price.

Just so you know, I'm one of those idiots that would and have payed 400+ for a cell phone.   How else would I have instant access to my email, the internet, a GPS and a 4G phone if I didn't?  I need to have access to that stuff, some people don't.  I guess it just depends on what line of work your in, your need of its features etc.  I couldn't live without mine.  Indifferent

TA, I guess the real point I was making is to one person necessity is another person folly. In my daughters case she cannot see any value in have any trains period. So you would have to be a idiot to spend $230.00 on something you don't need! You on the other hand would see the value is spending $230.00 on a scale model engine. (toy train my butt)

On the $400.00 Smart Phone, well I can sort of see some value, just not in my case. My $40.00 track phone does everything I need.

On the TV, I adjust the sound EQ today and she is fine with it. She happy so I am happy.

Well back to work today! Boy I hope it snows! People buy tires when it snows!

 See you all later!

Mornin' and a Happy Boxing Day to those North of the Border, Down Under, in Oz, and all the other places that celebrate it.  here in the US today is almost as bad as Black Friday with all the shoppers taking back and exchanging all the wrong sized or just plain ugly clothing, or junk they would never use to the stores to exchange....  I'll be going to the grocery store, and that is about it.

Zoe, just a bowl of hot oatmeal and lots of dark roast coffee for me this morning.  Ate way too much yesterday...

Oz Jim, What time do we eat dinner around here?  The answer is all of the above for my family....  Other than drive from house to house, and stuff wrapping paper into garbage bags to go out in the trash, about all we did was eat.  Breakfast at my son's house (They were feeling much better BTW) before putting wrapping paper in plastic bag, drive to Canandaigua, eat large Christmas Dinner (Rock Cornish Game Hens with rice and stuffing, winter squash, cabbage salad, Finger Lakes Riesling, and all the fixings) then stuff wrapping paper into plastic bag.  After that we headed quickly back to son's house for another session of placing lots and lots of wrapping paper into several plastic bags (one wouldn't come close) before sitting down to a Prime Rib Dinner with, mashed potatoes, glazed carrots, hot baked rolls, fresh garden salad, More good Finger Lakes Wine (several varieties) and dessert of several varieties of home baked cookies, fudge, and pie!  This was followed again when a couple who are old friends of my son from high school days arrived to sit down to the meal I just described.

Oh!  The best news of the day was that my DIL's uncle Mark, after the frenzy of the opening piles and piles of packages before the huge prime rib was offed up, announced that earlier that afternoon he had proposed marriage to his girlfriend of several years!  She was all smiles showing off the new rock on her finger.  So of course during the evening the bottle of sparkling Finger Lakes bubbly was brought out for a toast from my son to the couple!  Followed by more cookies, pie and fudge!  I "forgot" to take my blood sugar reading when I got home around Midnight last night.  I think it was the right thing to do, no sense scaring myself right before bedtime!

I gave DIL's Mom a photo I took a couple summers ago of her little dog that just was killed in the road a couple weeks ago along with a candle.  She cried...  Then wanted to know the the photo was taken and immediately put it on a table to display.

Best get to Boxing I think...  (My late wife used to get "Boxing Day" off as the doctor she worked for always kept the office closed for the "holiday".  He grew up in Ontario Canada.  His employees got the day off, with pay!)

Good morning everybody.  No snow, but all rain for my area.  I think most of it is over now.

Kinda went cheap this year and all I wanted was a new air brush.  My old one is several years old.  So now I can useone for fades, and one for dullcote.

When I was married we had a boxer "Zeus"....well my ex-wife told me last night he died.  He was about 7 years old.  I sad about it but I haven't seen him in two years.  I'm sure she's having it rough.

Tonight is my last night at work before I get laid-off.  Yep........that makes two layoffs for me this year, yes two!!!  I was offered a job and a week later, I don't.  I know the group leaders are trying to get me on thou.  They love my work ethic.   So I will know more in 2-3 weeks.

 Stay safe everybody!!

Good Morning all,

It sounds like everyone made it through the holidays ok.

I got a ½” pass through socket set and a 3/8” and ¼” socket set.  A set of MRR tools in a wood box so far.  Tomorrow I drive out to Toledo to see the kids and my side of the family.

We are still waiting for the snow.  The weather radar shows we are getting hit right now but the window shows no snow yet.

EDIT: Oh that just cost me. I knew I shoulda edited that last post instead of making a new one. Oh well Page is on me, they have my credit card on file. Eat up.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and ummmm….how about some lasagna with garlic bread please. That sounds goooood.  Thanks.

Looks like the s**w has dodged us. Look out to the south and east north east of us though. Not that I want the stuff, but we could use the water out of it.

Yesterday went pretty good. I got a pair of jeans and a shirt and a set of assorted small clamps. Was looking at them for modeling myself soooo. Not too bad. Actually they are a bit big, but there are a couple small bar clamps that will work just fine.Yes

Got Brenda her desk of course. She liked it and yes I took allllll day to assemble the thing. Not because it had to take that long, though it wouldn’t have just taken an hour (man therer were a lot of parts), but because I chose to take all day. Made it a leisure project.... Hey, it’s Christmas JackYes. What they don’t tell you is you need a 40 acre field to put this thing together in by the time you get the pieces laid out and the subassemblies and the bags of open hardware that, before the first piece is put together, you have had to open every single bag. But gotter put together and she is happy as a pig in new mud. She has a desk with drawers. Momma’s happy, I’m happy. Everybodies happy happy happy.

She made no comment on the lack of numbers of presents for her…yet. HmmWhich she just may not after all, but she does think the bottle of stink water is very small. Or as she put it “I notice my perfume is kinda small. I didn't think they made them that small”  I said I went all over town to find that, the last bottle, and it was in Sherman. She asked if I went to the mall. I manned up, looked her square in the face and said …..no.

Oh that’s not true…..I LIED!!!!!! I admit I caved. I said yes and that it was horrible. People everywhere, teenagers out the whazzoo. Oh the hustle and bustle was fearsome! Don’t know if I can get over it yet. My mind feels as if it could run out my nose any second. She just said, well get a Kleenex…..then turned and walked away saying….”now put my desk together.”

Another successful Christmas.

Hm. Never seen a suitcase for antlers. That’d be neat I suppose… if you needed one. Anyway,

OzJim-as for dinner times….., varies from family to family. Some celebrate Christmas eve, some Christmas day. Noonish or evening. Depends on when the families can get together.

Usually we celebrated Christmas eve with her family as that’s when her family celebrated it as a family, and Christmas day was spent with individual family. And ours always did Christmas on Christmas day so that w**ked out well. Always good to check out the determination of a family on their holiday traditions and it’s schedulings prior to any marital commitment I tell you what. Some just do not understand the “this year you , next year them” plan and I assure you Brenda's family is that way. Boy are they that way. You miss one event in 15 years for any reason and you’d a thought you’d a just spit in their faces. And they actually get MAD about it and the deserter hears about it most all year long too. Luckily, our schedule w**ked out and only Thanksgiving had to be w**ked on. That was simple….we’ll have it. TA-DAAAA!!! Problem solved.

Oh and um...Whistling, could we keep that Brenda and a "pig" comparison to just between us? Thanks. My bad. Far as she's concerned, I called her a pig. Wierd. She doesn't get those things.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Morning, Diners.

It is snowing quite vigorously here in central Indiana this morning, and pretty blustery wind to go along with it. Visibility is down to a couple hundred feet at best. I called into the office about 90 minutes ago - there was one fellow in the building, and he was wisely considering leaving shortly. So that means I get a SNOW DAY! Haven't had one of those in a couple of decades! So I'm off to the basement and some quality train time. Haven't touched the hobby in a month due to holiday preparations, and I've been suffering from model railroad withdrawal. Today, that changes!

Later, kids. Be careful out there.

Good Morning & Happy Boxing Day, Diners! Ah, good to see you got to the Diner, Zoe. I'll have the #2 special, please, scrambled, with wheat toast and blackberry jam, and a CAW mug of coffee please. Thanks - that will help take some of the chill off from all that blowing sn*w and wind...

We got 6-8 inches of the white stuff (drifts might be more in some places, and there's some spots with ice under that, around Cape. Some (private, mostly) schools in the area are closed today, and some businesses, also. Waiting to hear about our office, but it will likely be 7:30 a.m. before there's anyone in the office (other than our maintenance crew, some of whom get to clear the parking lot...).

Those of you on the more northern edges of this front, be cautious about getting out - check with your state's Dept. of Transportation (many will have a phone you can call to see how the roads are. Drive smart, and drive safe, Diners! (OzJim, you probably won't have to be too concerned about this storm, since it's what - summer, right? - down under there.) Smile, Wink & Grin

Prayers for safe driving and safe roads today, as well as for comfort and healing, as well as other needs.

Blessings,

Jim in (snowy) Cape G.

Got a few goodies for Christmas, no trains though.

Got a nice Antler suitcase and matching cabin bag as I'm travelling to Thailand next may on a "boys" trip for 10 days. Got the Police Academy DVD box set, including a novelty blue light that runs on battery. Got some clothes too. Just have to get a passport in order, now.

CapeJim: Very busy. Now that Xmas is over I can relax until the 7th of Jan when I go back to w*rk! Might go out later this week and take a few photos of the real thing, which I haven't done for about 3 years. Might then go visit my mates who are about a 3 1/2 hour drive away.

I hope everyone had plenty of Turkey, Ham and other tasty treats for Christmas lunch/dinner.

Actually, thinking about that, In Oz it is traditional for us to have Christmas "Dinner" at lunch time (around 12-1pm) and it's always hot meat but with plenty of nice seafood, even if it's 35c outside. What do folks your side of the world do, have the meal during the day or early evening?

Cheers,

OzJim

Morning Coffee in the Diner with Friends

GOOD MORNING!!!

Today is December 26th, 2012!!!

HAPPY BOXING DAY!!!

SO:

Meaning:

The 26th of December, also called St. Stephen's Day.

Boxing Day is a public holiday that forms part of the Christmas festivities in most of the countries that were once part of the British Empire. It was originally the first working day after Christmas Day, but is now always celebrated on December 26th, regardless of which day of the week it falls.

ORIGIN:

Christmas boxes were originally literally earthenware boxes. In mediaeval England, these boxes were used by the poor (servants, apprentices etc.) to save money throughout the year. At Christmas, the boxes were broken open and the savings shared to fund Christmas festivities. This meaning of Christmas box dates back to at least the early 17th century. The boxes were known in France as tirelire and are referred to in Randle Cotgrave's A Dictionarie of the French and English tongues, 1611:

"Tirelire, a Christmas box; a box having a cleft on the lid, or in the side, for money to enter it; used in France by begging Fryers, and here by Butlers, and Prentices, etc."

In a similar tradition, which is almost as old as the above and which is the one that has stayed with us until the present day, Christmas boxes were gifts, usually money, given to tradespeople or others who have rendered some service throughout the year but who aren't normally paid directly by the donor - for example, office cleaners, milkmen etc.

So, why is Boxing Day so called? Sporting fixtures, which used regularly to include boxing, have taken place over the holiday season for centuries. The view that Boxing Day was a day for pugilism gets some support via the earliest reference to the name that I can find, which is in The Sporting Magazine, Volume 25, 1805:

On boxing-day, Dec. 26, a numerous assemblage of the holiday folk were amused by a hard fought battle, in St. Pancras-fields. This fight was one that afforded plenty of diversion to several pugilists and admirers of the art present.

Nevertheless, the link to boxing in that citation is just co-incidence and the origin of the name is the giving of 'Christmas box' gifts to tradespeople, which traditionally took place, not on Christmas Day, but on the first subsequent working day.

Merry Christmas Evening! Flo, thank you for covering tonight in here. I'll have a Santa Fe mug of hot chocolate, please. Sure, put some of those little marshmallows in it, too. Thanks! By any chance, is there a slice left of Petra's cake that Ulrich brought in? No? Rats...Sigh Shoulda come in sooner.

Garry, thanks for those (chuckle...) cartoons - funny! Better watch yourself tonight and tomorrow, with the 'blizzard' that the prognosticators are saying will be moving through tonight and in the morning. Of course, they said it may vary north or south as much as 20-30 miles, but that most of our area will get some white stuff (and the heavier patches may be up to 14-16 inches/36-40 cm. of the stuff). Ah, winter just might be back.. Hey, nice (UP) train there (Christmas present?), and nice photo of your town with the Christmas services sign!

Karl (and JaBear - wrong continent...) - sorry for the confusion of you two Diners. Oops  Karl, some nice smiles on your grandsons' faces there! (And you have some cats, too! Smile, Wink & Grin)

Jeffrey, had the "air cleared" enough today for you to turn on the heater (safely)? Hopefully so. Wink Did you get any problems with winds around Sundown? I saw that some of the Gulf states had twisters. Surprise Nice video at Ezra's. Thumbs UpSmile

CDN Dennis, maybe I was a bit too tongue-in-cheek; I mentioned Garry as your DCC go-to, because I recalled seeing him in the Diner, muttering something about "Grumpy...DCC..Bang Head" under his breath a time or two here in the past Bang Head. Might have been around the time of that Bachmann install he mentioned. He can probably tell you some things he tried that didn't w**k as planned, though.Whistling

Galaxy, how's your humidifier been doing lately? Any improvement, I hope? Hmm, roast leg of lamb? If I'd checked the Diner yesterday, I'd have been on my way to your place! Dinner

JR, thanks for posting the photo of your layout. Man, for being gone on your races, you've made great progress so far! Thumbs UpBow

And Curt, I see that you're getting your grandkids introduced to MRR'ing also, eh? YeahThumbs Up Keep it up!

Johnboy, did Santa leave you any nice MRR things in your stocking? I heard he does keep track on some of the social media, perhaps you could've tweeted him your list?

Bill (RT) - good to hear from you again! Hope things are going well for you and yours there in South Carolina!

Barry, I sure hope that Spring found a present or two for her there, under the tree. Smile, Wink & Grin (But I'm sure that any food, catnip, or other edibles you had safely locked away until Christmas Day...) (Or was that photo your remake of "The Incredible Shrinking Man"? Whistling

Flip, may we have another ten years (or more) with ya! Thumbs Up Time does fly here in the Diner, all right!

Robby, great job on your CNW covered hopper - and your usual outstanding w**k you do on the base you use to photography your cars! BowBow

Ken - man, those Big Boys could get dirty! Saw your photo of that one, and it was griiiiiimey! Due for a bath, for sure! For your Christmas dinner, would it w**k to have the potatoes and cranberry sauce at lunch with a slice of the ham/turkey, then some veggies more toward dinnertime, spread it out some over time? Worth a little figuring, perhaps. Oh, I would not have guessed that other photo to be the Big Boy's firebox (though once you told us, it made perfect sense...)

OzJim, good to see you in the Diner again; I gather you've been busy (as with other Diners - including myself - who have a thing or two too many to tend to)(now, there's a confusing one for those watching by close-captioning....)Whistling

Ray, I hope your son and DIL got/get to feeling better. Not a great way to spend Christmas Day. I too (along with OzJim) was wondering how far away that other shooting was from you.

I saw on the news today that police officers from other surrounding areas pitched in to help cover patrolling the Newtown area on Christmas Day, so that the Newtown officers could be off and spend the holiday with their families and friends. AngelAngel for those affected by the recent tragedies, and blessings on the recovery of the communities affected.

V8Vega Dennis, it sounds like you are having an excellent train trip out there on the 'Left Coast'. Thumbs Up Bring back some photos for us, please.

C&O Terry - so far as I'm concerned, you never need to apologize for showing photos of your layout! Love how your river/creek was done - what'd you use on that?

BN24 - now THAT's a new term for that paint scheme, I'll say! [:-^)]

Lee, I think you (and our other Ohio Valley/Appalachian/Northeastern Diners) are getting whatever the blizzard doesn't dump through our area. I got my scraper out of the car, so if there's any ice under the snow on my car in the morning, I can scrape it off with a warmer scraper. I already have the broom in the entryway closet ready. [:))

Oh, Jeff - my favorite thing on your list of Christmas goodies is that sack of cookies! DinnerSmile

Spent first part of Christmas Eve at daughter & SIL's home; they were having hors-doeuvres/deourves appetizers of various kinds. Then the grandsons (and adults) opened up presents. With all four grandparents, plus three brothers of SIL there, my grandsons made out like the proverbial bandits on gifts. And the floor was covered with wrapping paper (made me think of a landfill, almost. After that, I drove up the interstate a little and picked up my buddy Mark to take him to church for 11 p.m. late service. After that finished up, we got breakfast at a Denny's nearby. I think it was about 3 a.m. when I got home and to sleep. Slept until ten-something today and lazed about much of the day. Not bad, almost felt like a retired person... Wink

My hope for tonight is that the sn*w is enough to close the office tomorrow, but not enough to knock out the power. (I live in an all-electric apartment building...), but enough for the kids in town to be able to make snowmen/snow critters/snow angels.

May you and those you love be blessed this Christmas season and in the year ahead of us. And may those who have lost loved ones in this year, have comfort and healing of mind, body and spirit.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape G. (where it's sn*wing currently...)

What did I get for Christmas this year? It's a short list.

Two pair Wrangler jeans
Two fleece pullover long sleeve shirts
Eight pairs of Hanes crew socks
A seven pack of Hanes briefs
A Star Trek V DVD - Special Collectors Edition
A Star Trek VI DVD - Special Collectors Edition
A big bag of cookies, candies and snacks. Looks like somebody knocked over the snack aisle.
A 110 piece Dremel super accessory kit

And that's it!

Weather wise the storms are still with us! It's colder. Low tonight should be 32 with a small chance of rain. Looks like tomorrows high will be below 50. Wind is going crazy out there. In the last hour no less than half a dozen branches have hit my trailer and a few were pretty fair size. Wind is from the west at 30+ mph. Power has been out several times tonight.

See y'll tomorrow if I still have power then.

Good Evening All,

Long day  but good. Finally caught up with all the kids and had dinner at DIL's sisters house (her turn this year). S..w was gone by 2pm just perfect with dry roads to drive on.

Ken - with a watt per channel you need an amplifier. Perhaps a sound tube or such for reasonable dollars. Check for sales at the big box stores. FWIW $230 for an EM-1 is cheap. The CFO here has gotten over this now especially since I got her a digital Canon last year and her router table this. You could always drink it away in a bar or stuff it up your nose so I think a trick loco and knowing where you are when off duty is worth it, no? The days of getting $30.00 Tyco train sets is over i think.

Ray- So sad to read about another inexplicable shooting of innocents. I know this happens in our cities all the time but I just don't get it. There have been so many here in the diner that volunteer to fight fires risking everything to do so. To get shot at is just not part of the  bargain. My prayers go out to the families they left.

Strange season this one with much to think about on the direction we're headed.   J.R.

Buy yourself a sony or whatever brand of external speaker system. They aren't that bad a price and include a bar that sits along the bottom. The price is Canadian $$$ so it will be a lot less money down your way.

Here's the link http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/sony-sony-40-sound-bar-speaker-system-htct550w-htct550w/10170617.aspx?path=7fc3c7298a37710380fb4e6ee4b042f6en02

Dennis, I don't think we will need one. After I read the link I posted I saw there is a 5 band EQ in the TV. Institutions are poor, written in 3 languages and I missed it. Like I said Sue is just looking for a little better, not good or in my case Audiophile Quality. (fancy word for saying you spend way to much for a stereo) Whistling

Thought Id pop in tonight.

Christmas is half over for us also. We go to my parents place for dinner tomorrow and there calling for a decent snowfall for us so I hope I can pop over to the rail yard on Thursday and get some "Snow Pics". Just sitting here looking over a few prototype pics for my next weathering project.

Anybody else going to brave the boxing day shoppers???? NOT ME,lol. I don't like anything enough to fight with people or sit outside for 8 hours before the store opens to be the first in. Alot of stuff I saw in the flyers wasn't anything all that special. Well to me anyways. The art supply store is having some sales So I might go over later in the week to pick up a few tubes of oil paints that im running low on.

Now for the question. Do any of you think I can just add speakers with out adding a Amplifier? She is not looking for surround sound or any so called high end sound quality. Just a normal TV sound quality.

Other companies make much the same thing. We have the sony and it works wonderfully. Wouldn't be without it.

Cheers

 Evening Fellow Dinners!

Flo, Eggnog and a Beer Chaser pleases.

Made it through another Christmas and live to tell about. Over all it was a pretty good day. I got some slippers that I need (never thought my wife would get $36.00 slippers, I was thinking $12.00) but they are worth it. Take some pressure of the infected toe! I all so got a couple of DVD's and 71 Charger R/T for the layout.

Sharon was happy with the $50.00 I gave her toward a new printer.

Wife really made out. She got the new TV she had been wanting and Sharon got her the toaster oven of her dreams.

On the TV I bought Sue. Picture is top notch but sound is really lacking! Even Sue thought the sound quality was lacking, so I guess it really sucks. (Sue is not picky when it comes to sound quality) Here is the TV I bought her.

 http://www.emersonaudiovideo.com/products/product.php?id=29

Now for the question. Do any of you think I can just add speakers with out adding a Amplifier? She is not looking for surround sound or any so called high end sound quality. Just a normal TV sound quality.

One reason I wish I had not bought Sue the HD TV? Now I want a new TV as well. Whistling

Hope your Christmas went as well if not better than mine! Mine was pretty good! Big Smile

Oh, today while we where opting presents my daughter was showing me pictures on her $400.00 smart phone. At one point my wife asked about what a Barbie Doll she has was worth? Sharon got on E-Bay using her $400.00 smart phone and told Sue what they where going for. While Sharon was on E-Bay I asked her to look up EM 1's and what where they going for? When she saw they where $230.00 she exclaimed "What kind of idiot would spend $230.00 on a toy train"!

Just as I was thinking what kind of idiot would pay $400.00 for a cell phone! Laugh

Idiot Ken, wanting a $230.00 Train Engine Again! Big Smile

Merry christmas

I got a bunch of cars and parts this year. 7MDC thrall gons, 2 NP, 1 Peabody, and 4 BN. Also included were 2 TTX 60' flats (one has all the marks sanded off), 1 BN 60' Bulkhead, 5 kadee stewart f-unit conversion kits, 6 DA kits for the stewart Fs, a RI and a KCS ACF 50' box, a GN 40' hi-cube, and a few other cars. I've only put together the 4 BN thrall gons and partially assembled the thrall gons. I'm likely going to use the NP ones as stand-in woodchip cars, the peabody will probably be sold or traded, along with one of the 60' flats. I'm happy because this brings my total of the BN thrall gons up to 10, and gets me a big boost to my F-unit project.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Merry Christmas!

I got the BEST present this morning! A 20 minute phone call from PFC Son!Big Smile He is doing great, got our package of goodies. Said he liked MOH's chex mix better than mine. She put some sriatchi (sp) hot sauce in hers. Also loved the home-made venison jerky she made! He did share with his buddies. What a great way to start off the day!

I was able to get some train time in, too!

Added water to 2 rivers:

And after:

Then resumed yard ballasting:

Sorry for all the pics. It's been a while since I got any train time. Going to head back down in a bit for more playing.

Hope everyone has a blessed day!!

Ho, ho ho!!!  Merry Christmas everyone!

Just stopping by between meals and Christmas Present openings...  Been out at my son's house (they are feeling a bit better) for breakfast and will be departing for my sister's house soon.  Then after that we all meet back at my son's house for the traditional  Christmas Feast.  His MIL was putting a huge Prime Rib roast in the oven as I was leaving....  I'm talking 3 foot or longer!  I guess his MIL and wife's uncle split the cost of the thing.  My main job will be to take photos of the package opening frenzy that will take place immediately after dinner...

Galaxy,  ah...  ahem!  Ah, just thought you'd like to know, but ah, Reindeer don't have Paws!  Nope, Reindeer have hooves just like other types of deer, cows, bison, and the like.  No Paws!  Dogs and cats have Paws!  Not reindeer......  What?  Oh you meant pause!  OK, well that makes sense now....  Sorry, it is the almost English teacher in me.....  Merry Christmas to you then! Laugh  (I used to use that line with my 8th. graders when we would be singing "Up on the Housetop.."  It was always good for some groans and rolling eyes from them...Big Smile

Gotta get moving!

Later!
