Well, some may not read the tidbits, and I can't keep 'em all RR related as some just aren't RR related, but I guess maybe I will do them only on weekends? I just like to know if the work I do i n posting them is enjoyed or a waste of my time.

Me too Galaxy, I read them every day and consider them to be part of my "Continuing Education" program. I also share many of them with some of my more enlightened friends by email. They always want to know how it is that I'm so knowledgeable in said matters.

I just smile and act superior..Angel

Keep up the good work galaxy... Thumbs Up

Those little white things started falling here shortly after daybreak, Hmm Now look! Surprise

Oh my! Keep that white stuff away from here. These folks down here wouldn't know what to do with it. They might even resort to throwing it at each other or making snowmen. Hmm, a redneck snowman. Would that be with or without a straw hat and corncob pipe?

Dennis - how goes the search for the faults (how long are the shorts Smile, Wink & Grin?)

JR - Those faults/shorts are a bearcat to isolate. I've gone through every that would be obvious and then the not so obvious.... Made a couple of changes but still not there yet Hmm

I did discover that I don't have nearly enough light for these old eyes to see all that well so today I'm going to take a break and install the fluorescent light fixtures even though I don't yet have the Tee Bar's up for the suspended ceiling yet.

That should help somewhat. (He says with tongue in cheek) Embarrassed

So JR, tell me what the heck a REFURBISHED SALVAGE CAR IS? That's got me puzzled..

So it's off to hang those fluorescent lights...

Cheers

Here we go again!

Those little white things started falling here shortly after daybreak, Hmm Now look! Surprise I'm seeing a pattern here, every 3 days or so!Hmm

Wife left early this morning to go clean her office. (Why now? been closed since Christmas and wont reopen til next Wednesday) Actually its a good deal, $200.00 bucks extra every 2 weeks . Anyhow she stopped at Wallyworld to get me a clear tackle case, to store all my Kaydee couplers in, came out and ICE was falling from the sky!.  She beat feet home, she'd rather clean the office later this weekend than drive on ice.

Ray, I think Barry's suit of armor may have something to do with a bad joke I had yesterday about snowblowers. He's afraid of flying frying pans. Surprise

Galaxy We too are having our fights with the trash guys. They got our recyclables on Wednesday, but according to their web site, they stopped trash pickups at 1 pm because of the snow. According to their office, they didn't quit early!Huh? Normally, they don't pick up either til about 4, but our trash still sits, at the curb, where it has been since 6 am Wednesday!.Hmm  I guess it will stay there til next Wednesday!

And by the looks of the radar, we are only half way through it!

I may havet o go out and TRY to shovel some out the end of the driveway so MOH can get in from work. Seaking of which, MOH just called on lunch to ask me how the roads are...welll...welll...weeeelllllll...not so hot it looks like. MOH taking the long slow way home from work at 1 pm.

They picked up recycle, but not so garbage, and they may NOT pick up garbage...they may let it slide.....I HOPE NOT!!! Won't be til the saturday following tuesday the 1st as our collection day is the Holiday!!!

Well, some may not read the tidbits, and I can't keep 'em all RR related as some just aren't RR related, but I guess maybe I will do them only on weekends? I just like to know if the work I do i n posting them is enjoyed or a waste of my time.

Well. If I'ma gonna go-ah shovel some-ah snow-ah, I'da best getta move on....sitting here isn't doing ti!

GOtta rake the roof too! I noticed ice dams on both ours and our neighbor's trailers! NOt good on seamed roofs!

Morning All,

Probably won't make it to the club today. We have a ton of stuff to do to get ready for the family coming over tomorrow morning for Christmas. I will try to check in later.

Ray- Some nice looking rock stars there.

Lee/Ken- No, not a new store, but new to me. There was a lot of traffic and the staff seemed to know everyone.

Galaxy- Keep it up.

Jeff- I meant to tell you that was a nice video you had a couple of days ago.

Everyone take care and prayers for those in need.

Good morning everybody,

Got up this morning to find around 4" of snow. So out to the garage to get the snow shovel and the snow blower. Had just about everything cleaned up, including digging out the driveway where the township snowplow did a really great job of filling it up with about a foot and a half of frozen stuff, and it started to come down again. There's about another inch out there now, but I'll wait a little longer to see if it stops.

We had a busy day yesterday, starting off with breakfast at our local diner, then errands and shopping, lunch at Friday's, and finishing with more shopping. Never got home until almost 3:00pm. I don't think we have anything on the schedule until Monday, our usual shopping day.  We might head out tomorrow morning to do a little railfanning at our favorite spot. Haven't done much of that when there is snow on the ground, so it might be interesting. I have a Bowser 70 ton offset hopper that I might put together this afternoon. Then I need to take some photos of that, 2 other newly aquired freight cars, and a B&O RDC Car for my inventory list.

Here's hoping everyone has a nice weekend and stays warm and safe.

"Oh, the weather outside if frightful, but the fire is so delightful...."  Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll.......  Ah, why is Barry wear a suit of Armor?  Musta missed sumpin' I guess.  Anyway I'll have a nice bowl of hot oatmeal with brown sugar, and lots of dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR mug, please and thank you, Ma'am!

Hey Galaxy, keep on with those daffynitions and "little known postings" guy.  I like 'em!  Good way to start the morning.  Reminds me of back when I taught in Elba, NY.  The High School Principal had a book of "Historical Facts" that ended with some very bad puns.  At the end of the morning announcements every day he would read, "A moment in History"...  He got many complaints from students and teachers about the practice, but we all noticed how quiet the school got now for the Morning Announcements.  The quiet was followed by a huge groan from all over the High School.  He finally had to stop the practice as an English Teacher who was very prim and proper and had no sense of humor at all stole and destroyed the book!

Little white thingies are falling out of the sky here in the Finger Lakes and the forecast calls for more partly cloudy all day.  3" to 5" of partly cloudy they say!  I may get out the Turkey Carcass from Thanksgiving that has been in Freezer ever since and see about making some Turkey Soup today....

Should also find some time to complete the metal bands on the water tower...  Possible photos tonight.  Oh, here are my two favorite little Rock Stars:

Christmas at my Sisters house...  Can you tell she is an artist and was an Art Teacher???

May have to go shovel some of the Partly Cloudy this afternoon...

Later!

Good morning. It's 31° with 88% humidity. A hard freeze watch is in effect. Mostly sunny today with a high of 48°. Low tonight of 25°.

It's a bit on the cold side this morning. With a west wind coming off the lake it feels much colder than 31°. Think I'll stay inside today. No plans. I may run some trains later. I'm still feeling very tired for some reason and don't feel like doing anything.

Another nothing to do day. It´s gray outside, temperatures short of 40 F. No rain yet, but lots of it heading our way.

Galaxy - I very much enjoy the morning "words of wisdom", if it´s up to me, I´d like to see them continued in the coming year which is only a little less than 2 1/2 away from us.

Galaxy - do you have a book of roots of famous phrases or are you doing your own research? Hope you have enough material to keep going next year.

I have/do both. For the phrases/words that are derived from OLD ENGLISH, it requires a different reasearch to get to the "old meanings" of the England-originating phrases {that may still have been transferred into Old English from eleswhere}.

I will have enough to get thorugh next year, though some may be accidental repeats!

I don't know if I will continue next year or not, as I am not sure how many actaully read and appreciate them versus how many just skip it all together. I Know TODD has expressed his satisafaction on them.

But if only one or two read it/ appreciate it, then it may not be worth my while to look them up.

So, What say you, readers, do you want me to continue with the tidbits every morning???

{speaking of the word "tidbit": here goes!:

tid·bit

[tid-bit]

noun
1.
a delicate bit or morsel of food.
2.
a choice or pleasing bit of anything, as news or gossip.
Also, especially British, titbit.

Origin: 1630–1640; tide1 (in sense “feast day”) + bit2

So who wants them to contiue? Inquiring minds want to know!

{sorry can't resist: in·quire:

Inquire, also enquire

v. in·quired also en·quired, in·quir·ing also en·quir·ing, in·quires also en·quires

v.intr.

1. To seek information by asking a question: inquired about prices.
2. To make an inquiry or investigation: inquire into the extent of the corruption.

v.tr.

1. To ask about.
2. To ask: "I am free to inquire what a work of art means to me" (Bernard Berenson). See Synonyms at ask.

Phrasal Verb:

inquire after
To ask about the health or condition of.

[Middle English enquiren, from Old French enquerre, from Vulgar Latin *inquaerere, alteration of Latin inqu rere : in-, into; see in-2 + quaerere, to seek.]

Good morning all,

Curt, a new LHS is always a good thing.

Ray, we are getting more snow as I type this.  Snow never use to be an issue up here until they cut back on snow removal crews.  Use to get 11” of snow but the roads would be clear, now you have to guess if the roads have been plowed and salted or not.

Today I have Dorothy’s Christmas present from her sister’s arriving today and a friend is coming in from VA to visit.  So I best get busy….

Morning Coffee in the Diner with friends...

GOOD MORNING!!!

Today is Saturday, December 29th, 2012!!!

The end is coming!! {of the year that is!}

Some may think "yeah, yeah, yada yada" when I post these whimisical informative ditties, SO:

Meaning:

A disparaging response, indicating that something previously said was predictable, repetitive or tedious

Origin:

This phrase is a modern-day equivalent of 'blah, blah, blah' (which is early 20th century). It is American an emerged during or just after the Second World War. It was preceded by various alternative forms - 'yatata, yatata', 'yaddega, yaddega' etc. The earliest of these that I have found is from an advertisement in an August 1948 edition of the Long Beach Independent:

"Yatata ... yatata ... the talk is all about Chatterbox, Knox's own little Tomboy Cap with the young, young come-on look!"

All of those versions, and including 'yada yada', probably took the lead from existing words meaning incessent talk - yatter, jabber, chatter.

yada yada

'Yada yada' itself is first found in the 1970s. Dory Previn released the album Mythical Kings and Iguanas in March 1971, which included the song Yada Yada La Scala:

Yada yada La Scala yada yada yada yada yada Let’s stop talking talking talking wasting precious time Just a lot of empty noise that isn’t worth a dime Words of wonder words of whether should we shouldn’t we be togehter Yada yada yada

Lenny Bruce used something very like it in the 1960s in his Essential Lenny Bruce, 1967:

"They're no good, the lot of them - ‘Yaddeyahdah’ - They're animals!"

In the 21st century the place you are most likely to come across it is when installing software; for example, the millions who have installed the Google Toolbar will have seen (although probably not read any further than) the instructions - "Please read this carefully - It's not just the usual yada yada."

AngelThe prayer candles will be lit as long as I am homeAngel

Make it a great day for someone else!!!

JR - Yes sir, Miami.

The dirty spurs fascinate me as well as the fact I can stage a "CSI Miami" scene somewhere on the layout.
Infact I just ordered an Atlas GP40-2 and a few more freight cars from Trainworld just now.

Good Evening All,

Cold today and now we're waiting for the next round of white stuff. Spent the day in the shop mostly Gov't work. Started stripping three Focuses to make 1 good one (actually 1 and a half - the second one will be a rehabilitated salvage car).

Spent time this evening starting to lay out the yards. I'd like to at least aproximate what's in Danbury for yard tracks though it means moving the turntable and round house out of the yard area. Seems there is never space for everything you want. Perspective wise the yard is shorter but wider than needed but I still want more on the layout than a yard and a river.

Bob - Grandaughter is a cutie. Hope your trip to Joisey went ok - traffic has been nuts. I'll miss Big E this year are you going?

Dennis - how goes the search for the faults (how long are the shorts Smile, Wink & Grin?)

Jerry - Nice transfer cab. Did the weather clear up enough to go see Sallie?

Rob - one step at a time. Most of the summer by the time I got home I was too frazzled to even think about going downstairs.

Ray - do we get to see progress shots of the layout structures?

James really - Miami?

Galaxy - do you have a book of roots of famous phrases or are you doing your own research? Hope you have enough material to keep going next year.

All these questions plus alLong day especially after having time just rocket by downstairs. I'll call it a night (ok - it's a night) and get back to it tomorrow.     J.R.
