Bill - you certainly stay up late or get up early Laugh

Good Morning!

We are up early and already set for the day. We have a plumber coming to fix the toilet. After 25 years of service, the toilet tank need replacement. He is supposed to be here at 8am, but I guess he will be early or really late.

After today´s HD list is worked down, I will run to our home improvement place to get a few tidbits I need to finish off the front of that building - a rattle can with white primer to seal the surface, some putty to mend a few spots and some gray and light yellow paint.

Garry - I´ll be using that special putty I bought at the train show for the stucco applications. This is going to be a tedious job and I hope I´ll get it right.

CUL & have a good day!

Morning coffee in the Diner

GOOD MORNING!!!

Sometimes, we have to give a Loco {or something else} a "shot in the arm" to get it running right, SO:

A SHOT IN THE ARM:

Meaning: a stimulus

Origin:

This expression derives from the invigorating effect of injecting drugs. A shot is of course US slang for an injection, either of a narcotic or medicinal drug. That term has been in use since around the beginning of the 20th century; for example,  this piece from the San Francisco Chronicle Supplement, October 1904:

"I varied hardly a minute each day in the time of taking my injection. My first shot was when I awoke in the morning."

'A shot in the arm' came soon afterwards and the first mention of a figurative use of it in print that I can find is from the Maine newspaper The Lewiston Evening Journal, January 1916:

The vets can give politics a shot in the arm and the political leaders realize it.

New Feature: Another mind numbing elderly Joke of the Day{!}:

An elderly couple had dinner at another couple's house, and after eating, the wives left the table and went into the kitchen. The two gentlemen were talking, and one said, 'Last night we went out to a new restaurant and it was really great. I would recommend it very highly.' The other man said, 'What is the name of the restaurant?' The first man thought and thought and finally said, 'Whats the name of that flower you give to someone you love? You know, the one that's red and has thorns.'
'Do you mean a rose?'
'Yes, that's the one,' replied the man. He then turned towards the kitchen and yelled, 'Rose, what's the name of that restaurant we went to last night?'

>>NO JOKE HERE:: The FIL called us at about midnight last night, He was being taken to the hospital because he was disorieted and faint and light headed. As I do for those here,  PLEASE add him to your prayers! MOH may have to miss work today to stay with MIL.Angel Angel Thank You!

I did not know that changing a toilet tank can be such a big issue! The plumber arrived dead on time and had the toilet tank up in a jiffy - only it did not work. The lever is exactly where the pipe leaves the wall! Tokk him another 40 minutes to find that out...

He´ll be back this afternoon, this hopefully with a tank that will fit.

Good morning ...

James..... The storms look bad there. They are so bad it has people driving on the wrong side of the road.

JR ..... Ar you in those storms while you are in Oz?

Darryl ...... The worst bad guys to me are the drunk drivers; so you may let us know how many you arrest.

Galaxy .... I was going to reply to today's joke too, but I forgot what I was going to say.  .... Prayers for FIL.

Ulrich ... I hope the stucco works out. .... My grandparents' house had stucco sides when I was growing up.

Ken ... I hope your appointments go well.

Here is a view of under our tree we just put up. The cat  is the one we got at a shelter for stray cats in CIncinnati. Shelley vetoed the name I picked out, and she named the Cat "Sassy". I can't tell you my choice of names because it would violate rules in the MR Forum. She was in bad shape when she was rescued, but they took care of her needs before putting her up for adoption.

The Lionel trains are used mainly for Christmas tree duty, and therefore, do not have many hours of service.

Good morning, Diners.  I will have a large black coffee before work.  Larry is off this week because they broke the sheet rock plant, which means no loads to Canada.

I am still tired from the 2-day party.Zzz

Barry,  I hope you and Audrey had a great birthday dinner.Cake

SadSadSad

That Bang Head foam board warps!

I spray painted it with primer to prevent warping ...

Well, maybe I just have to be patient and wait until it´s dry. Hopefully I can save it!

There is a lesson learned by me. I will not use foam board and cardboard in the next buildings. There is a material called Forex, a light wait, yet sturdy material used in making signs and billboards. It´s only a little more expensive, but needs more sophisticated tools to cut it. I may need a miniature circular saw for it Sad

The plumber has not yet shown up, we need our toilet - urgently! Smile, Wink & Grin

While Ulrich needs a plumber urgently, we need a NURSE here.

The FIL is in the Hospital...checked in now. DOn't know when they release him...could be later today or next few days. Problen is MIL only has so much paid nursing help and Hospice care and MOH is missing too much work to care to her. {I can only sit with her....I can't toilet her or such...she is too embarrased and has a shy bladder thusly, and My back can't take holding her up either and she cannot stand anymore}.

Here is NEW PROBLEM; FIL has been just told he can NO LONGER DRIVE!!!

MOH and I plan to hopefully be in semi-retirement home by that age as we have no children to care for us in declining years...

GRRR

Harumph!

Morning guys

I got the 2 F-units that recieved krylon primer fixed. It just uses a lot of sand paper... I have one more A-unit left to sand the nose mold lines on and one more to strip (the black widow F7A). I'll save these for last. I only need to find an F7B (preferably not a phase 2) because the black widow F3B I have isn't right for the lone BN F3B I can find pics of.  I've also been modifying some more Details west doors and striker plates to fit the stewart Fs.

Ken, check PMs

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Good Morning!!!

Just coffee please. Thanks.

Supposed to get to 60 today.

(sip) Ick! UGH!!! What’s this??!! Boot coffee!!!! That stuff’s back? I thought we got rid of that stuff a long time ago. Regular French Roast for me please, and would you mind marking “Barry” on that other pot please. Brings back memories. Yuk.

Garry- Oh yes, I know you’re kiddingLaugh. But I do have a tendency to type as I speak and that involves not really thinking how what I say sounds. A flaw that makes me, well, me I guess. I often get  from Brenda, “I don’t believe you just said that”. To which I respond most times…”said what?”  Tree looks great by the way.

AussieJim- Saw some of the storms on the TV this morning, glad you fared pretty well. Hope no damage.

Barry- Happy late Birthday to Audrey!!

G- Prayers for your FIL.

Ulrich- Are you just lightly dusting with the primer or paint and letting dry before coats? That should might help.

LaughWent to the Chinese Buffet Saturday at Brenda’s suggestion. New issue. Appaaaaaarantly, Brenda recalls a comment I made a while back about Suki smelling better than the rest. Not that the others smell bad, they don’t smell at all actually. No smell is not a bad thing you know. Anyway, I guess on our way to the booth, she gave ole Suki a sniff. Don’t ask me. Now we didn’t have her as a waitress, but she did come over once and ask if everything was ok and took my used plate and assorted stuff off our table. They’re much better at it than the Golden Coral no matter how busy they are. But after she plodded away, Brenda said, “she put on some perfume before she came over here.” I said “your imagination. I didn’t smell anything.” She said “No, when I walked past her she didn’t smell like she had perfume on, now when she was just here she had this faint smell of perfume. It’s real light so you may not be able to smell it, but she put on perfume. I know she did.” I chuckled and said maybe it was soap. So Sunday, we went to Steak and Shake for lunch, again her choice as I’m not that big of a Steak and Shake fan. There, all that happened was her sandwich wasn’t right (always something) and you couldn’t get the waitress back to say anything (not unusual) but no perfume issues. For supper, we she made pork chops, mashed potatoes, corn, and garlic asparagus. I said, "you know I’m used to my waitress putting on a bit of perfume prior to serving me. Not much, just a titch.”Surprise I’m lucky to be here this morning.

See Garry? Happens all the timeLaugh. No thinky before speaky.

Welp, off to the Church, then on with my day of….stuff I guess. And I have all day to do it too.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Morning All,

Have several errands to run and need to sweep the floor. I hope to finish up the F7 today.

Galaxy- Sorry to hear about your FIL. My Dad sounds a lot like him.

Ulrich- I have built several AMB kits that use a very thin wood. They say to paint both sides to keep it from warping, and for the most part that works well. It may work for you.

Everybody havve a great day and prayers or those in need.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of old phart high fiber cereal and a couple cups of dark roast coffee in a FGLK Mug please.  Oh, give Todd a cup of the Dark Roast Seneca Lake Blend coffee as well.  THAT should bring a smile to his face...

Why am I being good this morning?  Have a doctors appointment early this afternoon.  I expect that all will be well, but always worry for several days before wondering what horrible thing it will be my turn to have.  You folks know, I'm sure.  Blood sugar was 97 this morning.  Right where I like it!

Galaxy,  my prayers for your FIL, MIL, YOH, and you with all this.  It is indeed a difficult journey.  Been there, done that.  I have already told my son's that when the day comes, sit me down, and say, "Give me the keys to the car, dad!"  My father gave up driving about 2 weeks before he had a heart attack.  It had taken him 5 tries to get the car in the garage the night before.  (It is straight in to put the car in the garage...), and convinced himself that if he couldn't get the car in the garage anymore, maybe it was time to give up driving.  Of course he should have made that decision a decade before he did!  He handed me the keys to his car and said, "Bud, sell the car for whatever you can get for it."  I turned my eyes to the heavens and thought, "Thank you Lord!"

Ken, prayers for your visit to the VA!

Oz Jim, hope the storms have left the area and you and yours were unscathed!

Barry, keep the pea soup fog stuff over where you are please!

The big yellow orb is out here in the Finger Lakes for the Moment at least.  Did very well for this time of year yesterday, about 10 Kw from the system.  Should be fairly good again today as the prediction is for mostly sunny.

Have a good one!

Good morning. It's 62° with 54% humidity. It'll be partly cloudy with a high of 72°.

My mother is awake and is responsive. She wants to be home for Thanksgiving but we'll have to see what the doc says about that. I know what it's like to be in the hospital at Thanksgiving as it's happened to me. No nurse in her right mind would go in that room as I wasn't a happy camper.

My father and I had breakfast at the Waffle House in New Llano this morning. Eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, toast, biscuits and gravy. Nobody can accuse us of being light eaters.

Went to Wal-Mart and the pharmacy afterward then back home.

I hope to get more cleanup work done on the layout. I can actually see most of the layout now. I plan to go to town this afternoon and get my flu shot.

Chloe, cup of hot cocoa please.  With whipped cream would be great!

Just got home from the docs...  All my blood work came back not only within normal ranges, but in the excellent part of it.  He checked back through the last 2 or three lab sheets and said this is the best one yet...  So I now hav e to worry about being run over or hit by lightning I guess.  Bad Cholesterol was 34 IIRC...  Good cholesterol was optimal, and my A1C was 5.3.  He also told me to stop taking the Niacin.  I have been hounding him about getting off the stuff for a couple years now.  Told him I had another Gout attack last spring (Asparagus being part of it and the Niacin likely implicated) and he agreed with me.  He said they are now coming up with some problems with being on the crap long term as well.  So thankfully I can stop taking it.

Have to go do grocery shopping, and later putting the sides back on my little trailer.

Catch you all later!

(sniffs contents of mug and looks around the room, sniifs mug again then inspects closely, then sniffs coffee again) Hm. Gotta be careful with RayClown. (sips coffee) Hmmmm...pretty darn good. Maybe this place should double up on the stock. I may just switch from French roast.

Don't know why I decided to stop in at this hour but by golly I'm glad I did! Such a welcome and wonderful change to hear the good news about Jeffrey's Mother and of course Ray too. I hope things continue for both!

Ray, 5.3 1 AC test! Grumpy I am going to have to work on mine being 5.9! Laugh I don't like to be beaten! Stick out tongue Glad you got some good news!

 Afternoon Dinners!

 Flo, Beer Pleases!

Ulrich did you lay the primer on wet?I was wondering about that when you posted about it. I should have spoke up, sorry I did not. Before I did another thing (cutting wise) test the paste stuff on raw uncut board and see what happens.

Todd, are you wearing Perfume? Whistling Oh, that right, you ate out. Laugh

VA Visit Front. Sort of mixed reviews.

Eye Test Results Seems being Diabetic have not hurt my eyes at all at this point! Big Smile I have just a touch of cloudiness, but have the eyes of a 40 year old. Hum, guess I better give them back. Smile, Wink & Grin What shocked me the most where two things.

With my 6 year old plus glasses I still have 20 / 20 vision? So eyes are not getting weaker!

Having my eyes dilated was no big deal! After full Dilation I could look at the over headlights and not cause me a problem? Things where just a little blurred but no big deal. My wife on the other hand acts like she is Stevie Wonder (except she cannot play piano) after she has hers tested.

Have Bifocals Computer Glasses Coming! Yeah Big Smile Can see far away fine, take my glasses off and I can see the small parts when working on the train stuff. Looking at the keyboard, it is a blur, screen somewhat. So I hope the new glasses will help with that here at home and work!

Foot Ulcer Clinic This is where it becomes mixed news maybe. First, the PA and nurse that saw me knew there stuff about foot ulcers. When I told her how I was treating the ulcer she shook here head. While I will still be packing the ulcer, she has given 2 new med's. 1 is a antibiotic cream and the 2nd one is a jell that will keep the wound moist. I mix it 50 / 50 and then add it to the packing, then stuff it in the wound.

Possible Bad News, wound is fairly deep at 4 millimeters and when she probed it, she thinks she may have hit bone and it may be infected. Asked her if it is, does I mean I lose the toe? Answer was probable not, it can be treated with antibiotics if it is infected.

She took no chances with me! Yes  She sent me for X Rays to check the bone and then for blood test for signs of infections. In the Foot Ulcer I finally have a good

You know folks, when I did my time in the Army, I did it because I Love My Country and it was in need. But back then, we vets did not see the love back. Now, the country is paying me back is ways I never thought I would need! I am so lucky to have been born in the Land of The Free! God Pleas America, home sweat home.

My father and I had breakfast at the Waffle House in New Llano this morning. Eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, toast, biscuits and gravy. Nobody can accuse us of being light eaters.

Now that sounds like my kind of breakfast!  Well, except for the biscuits and gravy.  They aren't as popular north of the border.  I tried them once when we were staying in an American hotel.  They didn't do much for me.  The biscuits were great with jam on them but the gravy made it taste too much like a supper food, not a breakfast food.  Oh well, to each his own.

I'm glad to hear your mother is feeling better.  I can certainly sympthasize with her for wanting to be home for Thanksgiving.  Back in 1971 I had surgery (appendix and gall bladder removal) in a hospital in a city 320 miles away from the small northern town we were living in.  Nowadays they do such surgery laproscopially but back then it involved cutting you open.  I've got a 7" scar across my belly from that operation.  It was coming up to the Thanksgiving weekend and I had seen the surgeon only once and knew I'd have to wait until after the weekend to see him again and get discharged.  If I had to stay there over Thanksgiving I would would have given your attitude a run for its money!  So, I discharged myself.  The trip home was quite an adventure, a painful adventure.  I had to take the airport shuttle from the hospital to the airport.  Then I took the regularly scheduled passenger flight to the city of Thompson, a little more than half way to where I was living.  In Thompson I had to walk over from the terminal to the hanger of a local bush pilot operation,  (I'm carrying a heavy suitcase all this time too.)  I flew the rest of the way home in a little 5 or 6 seater plane.  It flew low, slow and bumpy and the seat belt cut into my tender belly with every bump.  In addition, he made stops to drop off and pick up passengers at every little settlement that had any kind of a runway.  When my wife met me at the airport she said I was white as a sheet and I felt like I had been run over by a truck. But, I was home for Thanksgiving!  A couple of weeks of rest at home and I was back to work again.  There were a couple of scary moments with that little bush plane during the flight, but I won't get into them here.

Went to the local health clinic to get my flu shot this afternoon. Nothing to it. I was in and out in ten minutes. Stopped by Lowes to pick up some glue. I got old faithful, the Loctite Super Glue Gel Control. I decided to try a couple of other Loctite Super Glues. I got the Ultra Gel Control and the Ultra Liquid Control. I'll try them at some point in the future and see if they're worth the extra money I paid for them. I also picked up a couple more mistint paint samples. One is a beige color and the other is, well I couldn't come any closer to baby puke green if I had tried. I just had to have it!

Evening All,

Sitting here watching "The sum of all fears" . MOH is at her quilting club meeting tonight and my son was called into work early so I am on my own. I did several cleaning jobs for MOH today since the family is coming over for dinner and I will be working, I also work Christmas and New Years DaySad. Oh well last year I had them all off. I received my new work schedule a little bit ago. I will  be working Mon,Tue, and Wed (40 hours) and again at the busiest station and with a so-so partner. This starts Jan 5th.

I ran trains for awhile this afternoon. It was dark enough that I turned on all the layout lights and ran in the simulated twilight which I lovedSmile.

Ken- I really hope your toe gets better. That is a great pic  of a coaling tower under construction. It looks like the one that was on the line between Sandusky and Columbus.

Jeff- That is good news about your Mother. Hopefully she can be home for Thanksgiving.

I hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving. I will talk to you all on Friday.

Hope everyone a good night and prayers for those in need.

Evening guys

Not a good day for me. I lost the motor mount for one of my P1K F3 chassis I'm selling, I've looked everywhere for it and have came up with squat. Got a call from the CC company saying I overdrafted again. But I haven't used the card in a few days, so someone else has my card info again. That really bites because I had just bought some stuff on e-bay and now I'm likely going to get flagged for non-payment. But I can't pay if someone just overloade my card, and it'll take awhile to make it all back up... It gets better, when I was at the store someone siphoned my fuel, again. I hate this town....

As a result I listed some of my stuff on ebay. Some is weathered and the prices are pretty modest. I don't think I'm allowed to post the links here, so you guys could just PM me for the links. hopefully enough people use the "buy it now" option to cover it. I need to sell all of that stuff on their ASAP. I have one car that I think will bring me big bucks, but a fellow MR club member already said he wanted it. If he doesn't have the money tomorrow it goes on the bay. Again, PM me for the info.

Ken, hope the stuff with the toe gets better. and you have a PM

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Well, I stayed only 3 hours wiht MIL and then took stuff to FIL in the hospital. I am exhausted, and I am sure mOH will come home exhausted too.

Well, MIL goes in tomorrow to the hospital for respite care.

FIl should be getting out tomorrow.

We are going to have to arrange a schedule for MIL  to be cared for. SHe had a stroke aobut 15 years ago so that is big problem. Nurse will stay with her tonight MOH go in early to see to her inthe AM before work.

MOH will do anything we can to avoid moving in if we can. We don't want to do that yet. It will be of last resort.

It will take money none of us has, and time won't heal it.

Even if we move in, it won't solve all of what we need to do.

Sigh  Bang Head

Sad

EDIT: Now I got top, and have a bill to pay HERE...*sigh*

Evenin' folks!

Janie, I'll have a large brownie with mint chocolate chip ice cream on top and a cup of decaf please.

Curt, is that possibly a 110 tonner in the bottom photo?  Looks a lot like our yellow 110 tonner from Russell Station in Rochester, NY we have at the Museum.

Ken, glad to hear you had a mostly good report at the Docs today.  Keeping you in my prayers with the toe!

Oh, Jeffrey, thanks for jogging my memory a bit... I got my pneumonia vaccination while at the Doctors Office today.  Glad to hear your Mom is doing better.  I hope she can be home on Thanksgiving!

Packer, do you have a way of checking your Credit Card online?  I check mine almost daily since it has been compromised a few times.  When it has been used by someone else, all it takes is a quick phone call to my credit union to get it shut down and have them go after the perpetrators!

Later!
