 Hello Dinners!

Flo, Beer and a IV Bag pleases.

John, I meet my wife when I was 17, I am now 56, I think? Been with her for 39 years, God I feel old again! Bang Head Best wishes for her speedy recovery!

Funny Thing Happen While I was Getting Ready For Work! Bang Head Pulled off the badge on my toe, hum looks like I stuck in my thumb and pulled out a Plum! Bang Head Yep, the big toe is infected yet again! Bang Head

Called My VA PA at 11:30 AM.

Never heard back from her! She either needs to be scrapped or refitted. Does she does not work worth a dam! Bang Head

I waited till 2:00 PM then went to the local ER Walk In Clinic. Got a shoot in the Bum and scrips for 2 antibiotics. Hope that hold me till Monday when I will be seen the VA Foot Ulcer Clinic. Hopefully they will have a better way of treating this mess I call a foot!

There is a small bit of good news from this current infection. My daily Blood Sugar Readings have been higher than I was hopping for. An infection will raise the blood sugar, so I still may be on the right track.

Jeffery, how much for the SOO Hopper in the widow?

Got a few PM to make, see you all later.

 Ken

Thank you everyone for your kind words for my wife.We have been together fifty four years now, since we were teenagers,  leaving her in the hospital as you can imagine, was very difficult.

Audrey and I have been married for 35 years....and I would not want to know that aspect of it. But it is good that she is getting looked after....Angel

We have only been together `12, but the ONLY time we have spent a night apart was during time{s} I was hospitalized...more times than I can care to count...

We say it took us 37 years of living to find each other and now we are NOT gonna separate...so much so a renewal of vows on our 10th year anniversary was a swell way to celebrate!

We tend to pine for each other while separated. Even while one of us runs to the store for only 15 minutes!

maybe we are still technically in the  "newly wed stage" but we hope it never ends. I cannot imagine going forward without MOH at my side.

May we {and you all} have a long life together! remaining or newly!

Have you seen my thread about the bummed QSI decoder? no responses and it's been over a week....

If you want, I think I can PM you some pics of my Athearn Genesis GP15-1. It came superdetailed... IDK much about what's available for detail parts in N.

Frankly I'm looking for a detail part to put a low-nose light into the nose of my SD40. Like this one:
http://archive.trainpix.com/BN/EMDORIG/SD40/878.HTM
http://archive.trainpix.com/BN/EMDORIG/SD40/884.HTM

Apparently sunrise made this part (H-128) a few years back, but I haven't been able to find one. I may have to modify a DW 137 and 138 for the insert and use a DA 1003 for the nose light. Then change the upper light to a  DA 1007. Fun stuff. I'm waiting till the next open house for my MR club because the widow of a former member had a bunch of old detail parts.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Greetings from LAX,

First leg of the flight is over her in L.A. (no Jeff we didn't invade Louisiana). CFO is off wandering around while I watch our stuff. We reboard in an hour for the next leg. If we have WiFi at the next terminal I'll check in again.

Best bet I think for detailing bits for N will be bashing parts from other locos or their manufactures spares. Fortunately many of the bits on the 1:1 examples are off the shelf items so a close match from another Loco is a distinct possibility. Easiest would be to try a reasonably sized train show.  CUL, J.R.

yeah I guess it was sort of oddly titled on my part. the short hood on that SD40 with the low light, does any other road with a '40 have low nights so you could maybe cut the short hood off paint it and attach it to the '40. I was thinking of going to BLMA but I may do some research and see if I can find another place with parts.

Good Morning Gang!

A beautiful, but icy cold morning, temperatures right now being at 28 F. High is expected to be 40 F today.

Janie, just coffee for me please.

John - my Angel go out to your wife! Last year, my mother had to undergo a series of operations. She had to stay 11 weeks in the hospital. It was the first time my parents, who are married for 62 years, were separated for more than just a few days. My father really had a hard time and there was only little I could do to comfort him.I was with him the entire 11 weeks, taking care of him, cleaning the house, doing the laundry, cooking the meals, taking him to see my mother, trying to cheer him up. It was almost to much for me, given that my own health is not the best.

Well, I got to get going, Petra has a mile long HD list for me!

Morning Coffee in the Diner...

GOOD MORNING!!!

If we had to quit MRRing. we Might have to stop COLD TURKEY, SO:

Meaning:

The sudden and complete withdrawal from an addictive substance and/or the physiological effects of such a withdrawal. Also, predominantly in the U.S.A., plain speaking.

Origin:

At this time of year, [January 2012] you have probably had enough of cold turkey. Nevertheless, here's another plateful.

The term 'cold turkey' is now predominantly used as the name of the  drug withdrawal process. Also, by extension, it is used to refer to any abrupt termination of something we are accustomed to. To find the origin of the term we need to delve into the annals of American speech. Let's talk turkey.

The turkey looms large in the American psyche because of its link to early European colonists and is, as even Limies like me know, the centrepiece of the annual Thanksgiving meal. In the USA, and as far as I can tell nowhere else,  'plain speaking/getting down to business' is called 'talking cold turkey', which has been shortened in present day speech to just 'talking turkey'. This usage dates from the early part of the 20th century, as in this example from The Des Moines Daily News, May 1914:

I've heard [Reverend Billy] Sunday give his 'Booze' sermon, and believe me that rascal can make tears flow out of a stone. And furthermore he talks "cold turkey". You know what I mean - calls a spade a spade.

The English newspaper The Daily Express introduced the phrase to an English audience in a January 1928 edition:

"She talked cold turkey about intimate relationships. 'Cold turkey' means plain truth in America."

'Talking cold turkey' meant no nonsense talking and its partner expression  'going cold turkey' meant no nonsense doing. To 'go cold turkey' was to get straight to the scene of the action -  in at the deep end.

What the turkey had to do with plain speaking, we just don't know. There are a few suggestions but none come supported with any evidence and are no more likely to explain the source of the expression any better than ones you could imagine for yourself - better just to admit, we just don't know.

The earliest reference to 'cold turkey' in relation to drug withdrawal that I can find  is from the Canadian newspaper The Daily Colonist, October 1921:

"Perhaps the most pitiful figures who have appeared before Dr. Carleton Simon are those who voluntarily surrender themselves. When they go before him, they [drug addicts] are given what is called the 'cold turkey' treatment."

In the state of drug withdrawal the addict's blood is directed to the internal organs, leaving the skin white and with goose bumps. It has been suggested that this is what is alluded to by 'cold turkey'. There's no evidence to support that view. For the source of 'cold turkey' we need look no further than  the direct, no nonsense approach indicated by the earlier 'in at the deep end' meaning of the term.

The prayer candles will be lit for those in need after I return from a morning meeting !

Angel

I think Vince is right about the N scale parts not being the easiest to find...you might actually want to look at trainshows in your area for them..

Either that or start finding spare bodies and such from previous modellers efforts...and kitbash them

According to the one place I found that has it (in England), it says "SP, CB&Q, CSX, and others" I think SCL and SBD SD35s were similar. I'm thinking now I should get an atlas SDP35 shell with the nose light and cut the light out and paint it. The plus is it'd be cored for lenses and I wouldn't have to drill through metal. And part of the steam generator area would be useable for making an SDP40.

Good morning. It's 33° with 100% humidity. Makes it feel even cooler. It'll be mostly sunny today with a high of 62°.

Not feeling good today. My attention keeps drifting about every ten seconds, I have some balance issues, sinuses are giving me some grief and I just plain hurt. But what else is new. I want to work on the layout today. I know just when I get to that critical point on something that I can't stop my father will call and say I have to do something for him. Well the way I feel right now I'm not going anywhere. I'm also expecting a call from up north around 10 am. I think somebody is interested in something I have.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and a couple slices of beef roll, some broccoli, butter fried potatoes and a couple three shrimp Gow Gee with the soy and vinegar dipping sauce please, thanks.

Mostly cloudy, with a high near 49.

Found a couple free samples of Breathe Right Strips in a pile of stuff. Used one last night even though I didn't think I needed one but I was curious. Wow. Got so much more air on the first couple breathes I thought I would pass out. Oddly enough I'm looking forward to a clogged snoot night so I can see how well they really work when you actually need one.

Ray- If I remember, Dad didn’t particularly care for clabbered milk either. Nor scrambled eggs and cow brains.Ick! Dead

Yuh know, and I do it too, people make fun of other cultures, especially Asians namely the Cantonese and what they eat which is basically…..anything that has ever moved on it’s own or at the very least parts of it. But really, go look at regional cuisines of these here United States. Especially talk to older rural people and ask what they ate as a kid. Shoot, for that matter, check out some old dining car menus from not too awful long ago and see what interesting items pop up from time to time.  And, like the Chinese, even though the wild stuff isn’t all that common anymore, the more rural and poorer you get the more opossum and ground hog still get consumed. Somebody else can have my share. I won't complain.

Welp, my garbage from last week just left so now I have room to start replacing it with this weeks. Got the kitchen straightened up, found the table in the dining room (I thought it had darker wodd than it does. Guess I was wrong) and got half of the living room uncluttered and looking halfway presentable. Ok so half is presentable half is halfway presentable making it I guess three quarters presentable. The other ¼ contains stuff that must be re hung on the walls of the dining room according to Brenda. Or some. She thinks. Maybe not. So today, I can put some of the stuff back on the walls, but not all of it.

Confused? Me too. I think I’ll do a load of laundry first.

Head Cheese sandwich anyone? I think I'll pass on that one too.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

No food fights in here. All this talk about clabbered milk and such stuff reminds me of many summers I spent on my grandparents farm in Texas. If chicken was on the menu we had to go out to the yard and catch it first. Great fun!

awesome.

the problem with trainshows is that they are few and far between in my area, many of the major hobby stores are in tacoma, my LHS doesn't carry locomotives except for the bachmann sets of various scales. I may just go to BLMA and a bit of atlas.

ah a fellow person who doesn't get the train shows in his area.

The closest ones near here (few and far between) are usually out of state and I don't travel well. Just driving to town and back is usually a painful and somewhat aggravating experience. And I had to make some modifications to my van so I could drive it. Nothing major, just little things. Like removing a quarter of the brake pedal. I sometimes wish it had cruise control and an overdrive tranny.

Good Morning All!

Not much to report from the land of Buckeyes other then the sun is out and its suppose to be in the 40s today.

I made a on line order last Friday from Klein's,it was shipped Tuesday(the 13th) by USPS and it arrived today. This has to be the fastest turn around to date.

While working on #15's( SS Ry SW1500) drive I found a crack gear..I replaced the gear by using a old BB GP7 drive with a burned out motor-I bought it used(as is) for $5.00 for a parts supply..Athearn used a standard gear ratio in their BB drives.I reassemble the drive, clean and lube and the 15 runs quiet at low switching speeds.

Today I'm taking a break from the shop work in order to catch up on my magazine reading.

I shall have a cup and look over da forum.

Have a good'un!
