 Evening Dinners!

Flo, Beer Please, and I wil pick up 1 round tonight! (like there will be any other customers this late) Smile, Wink & Grin

 How today went.

1 Work Front Not a bad day at all Had some good sales and made a extra $212.00 this week in commission. I should have right around 40 hours plus the training pay (funny they pay me more a hour for training than when I am working) so this week pay should be fair.

I also told Eric (manager for now) that they are talking about taking my toe off because I am standing to much. So he said I could keep a chair in the showroom so I can sit when not helping customers.

2 Job Interview Front Boy I feel good about this one!

First I was wrong thinking this was a Semi only repair shop. It is a full services repair center. It is 6 business in 1.

1 General Repair Oil changes, breaks, tires etc.

2 Heavy Repair Head work and engine replacement

3 General Body Repair Mainly deal in normal collision repair.

4 Restitution Auto Body Repair Mainly filler work for the Body Shop when they are slow. They happened to have a 68 Dodge Dart in the shop and I pointed out they had 1969 door handles, not 1968. Big Smile

5 Full Services Semi Repair I won't be dealing with that much. But I saw a Old Enterprises Cargo Van they only bid 8 hours on to remove decals from the cube van side. Said "you are taking a bath on that one" Bill said "Yea, we have 15 hours in it so far" and they where only 20% done.

6 Have there own Towing Company.

What they where most impressed with.

1 Ran Midas Shops and work at my current job so I know General Repair.

2 Ran a Engine Installation  shop. Ran Tech Engines for a few years, we did nothing but engine replacements.

3 I know paint and body.. Only around 20 years or so.

One of the reason's I have a warm and fuzzy feeling is I taken on a tour of the shop and introduced to the employes.Bill was telling them I would be more than likely be working on the Mechanical Side to start with. Yes

Asked me after the tour what my salary requirement where and I said 40K plus a chances for Bonus or commission. Said that was doable!

If I where a betting man I would say I have 90% chances of getting the job.

 Down side would be.

There are none! Big Smile Well, I would rather be in the Auto Body Side but what the heck? Whistling

Jim and Curt Thank you for the well wishes on the Toe being cut off!

Vince With 225000 miles and new springs and retainers? Can you say flat cam lopes and tulip shaped valves?  At 225000 mile my motto is If It Ain't Broken Don't Mess With It.

OH, on the new job, in the lobby there where some train's on display? Yes

Ken, with vision of a better life dancing in my head.

Had dinner at my parents place tonight. Homemade cheeseburgers and fries. Didn't get anything done on the elevator with the exception of some planning. I have some detail parts to go on it. Windows, doors, ladders, etc. Also have some parts for a truck loading building. Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

CDN Dennis, layout's comin' along there! Thumbs Up Glad you got the forum & PhotoBucket to talking with each other. Got a layout diagram of what it'll be like when you get things (mostly) done? Multi-level, eh? 17 by 13? Man, I would love to have that much room! (Drool, drool...) I take it that's your supervisor in the corner by the layout on that one photo, right? Smile, Wink & Grin

Hey there Dennis... I started with a layout plan (I think you can see it on the wall in one of the pictures by the doorway and ended up following it in general terms but as I was building, some inspiration came to mind and I did some changes on the fly so to speak Confused We shall see. The staging yard under the window is going to see a major diversion from the plan.

As for the Supervisor, yep that's him. Spoiled rotten Burmese Pure bred who just has to "help"with every single thing which is a trait of the breed. When I'm building building's, working on cars etc. he gets locked out of the layout room needless to say.

Have a good night all,

Afternoon guys

Finally got the headers on and the exhaust bolted up. The passenger side was a piece of cake to bolt up, everything else just went right into place. My father is trying to replace the springs, rockers, and pushrods (which are 19 years old and have at least 225K on them) with some newer upgraded ones. It's going well except for the fact that the keepers were stuck. They are all off now, and just waiting on 1 keeper (as in it fell down somewhere never to be found). After that it's just set the rockers, put the valve covers, intake, and alternator back on and see what it does.

Todd, Lemme guess, Hooker and Hedman? Last time I looked Niether one of them makes a long-tube header for the 94-95 mustang GT or Cobra, but I think they make short-tube ones for a 79-95 mustang. (if you're wondering, the short-tube headers are compatible from 79-95. Longtubes aren't because in 94 they moved some stuff around) The reason why I'm using the headers I'm using is because they were given to me and someone wants to buy the ones I pulled off of my car.

Ken, I'm going to pull that motor someday. It's 19 years old and has at least 225K miles (odometer was broke when I got it). I have a stroker motor in the works, I just have to get the $ to pay for the flywheel, valve job, balancing, etc. I didn't pull the motor because I didn't think it'd take this long. Eventually I'll get some Accufab Headers, unless my brother gives me his Mac ones (which will be installed with the motor out)

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Good Evening

It has been a dull day here, with no rain, again. And now, a little Spring showed up and is currently headbunting me abouts the head here...lol!!

My day has been spent running abouts the countryside picking up gotta buys and doing gotta do's...and having a lot of hurry up and wait scenarios as well...loads of fun and games to be had here...

Ray:   Won't know results until next Tuesday but it looked pretty good ...from what the tech and I saw....Wink

It has been a busy time for me lately. One of my computers, the one I am on now has been down for a while. My dad ran over my satellite line with the lawn mower a little over a week ago and I just got it repaired yesterday. That did not effect my business computer as it is on a special cable hookup. I am not allowed to use it for forums or net surfing. I got the other one fixed just in time. I was feeling the pain of internet withdrawal.

A big well done to Stourebridge Lion and good luck to the new guys.

Evening All,

Sitting here watching the bad news on TV (seems it is always bad) drinking a cup of java.

Did some cleaning around  the house, got a haircut, grocery shopped and finished lighting my buildings so I will try to do a video tonight after dark. Tomorrow I am helping a friend sell at the train show in Deland.

Chochow- Thumbs up on the layout. I look forward to your progress pics.

Jeff- Congrats on the moderator job. I know you will do a great job.

Ken- Hope your toe is doing better.

Hope everyone has a good night and prayers for those in need.

Afternoon, Zoe, I'll just have a RBF, please. Thank you!

jeffrey-wimberly

That was the DPM version, the M.T, Arms. It went away in a trade long ago.

Well, gone or not, Jeff, I liked your weathering on it. And congratulations on taking on the moderator position! Thumbs Up Good to see your new RS-16 (or new-to-you) was in better shape than you'd expected. And the elevator details are coming alongCool ...Man, after reading the announcment post, you're gonna be really busy, if you & your other moderator have all the forums for all the mags to ride herd on! (and that on top of your other forum) Wow  (Chuckle! Just saw your post in here about "ducks with/without guns." Laugh Thumbs UpThumbs Up

Vincent - you were going to try to fit in two dates on the same day? Sheesh! Smile, Wink & Grin Your new tank looks (to my unpracticed eyes) about right on the proportions/shape.

Chris, about your choosing toilet repair Wed. night, maybe you could have a future in politics? Whistling You may have had the more productive evening with doing what you were doing... Didja get anything usable out of THAT report, by the way? (I know, the odds are against a lot of school or governmental reports in that respect, but....)Smile, Wink & Grin

Ken, your Wednesday was one to beat all, sounds like. Surprise And sometimes nature calls, other times it doesn't How'd your interview go today?

Brad (twcenterprises) - Welcome to the DIner! Have a sweet tea (or other beverage of your choice) on me. Thumbs Up

Todd, you might have an idear there about debates - but I doubt that any politician will step up and actually admit to that! Smile, Wink & Grin Oh, congrats on getting that project done (and maybe getting a half-day or more to catch your breath before she comes up with another thing in need of fixing/adjusting/re-doing....Whistling

Hey, I just wrote back DerJohn, who said he is finishing some w**k/repairs to his house's foundation that he started in 2007... I told him that he and Todd were in their own league when it came to long-standing projects....Wink

And speaking of DerJohn, he said that he will be taking down his (N-scale) layout before they move, so if you N-scalers are interested in whatever he is going to be trying to sell off, he said send him a PM. He hadn't told me so far if he was looking to start a new layout when they get moved to Pictou or not, so I don't have a clue what all he'll have for you to consider. So PM him and get the particulars. (Oh, I  believe it's Der5997 for PM'ing him.(Nope, I get NO commission or anything from that...)

CN Charlie, sounds like your area's as shy of moisture this year as mine has been. But we get a little here, a little there. Now, if we could get three, four days with moisture in a row, we might catch up (and Chris' toads might return home to the well...) I for one would not mind some of that white stuff falling from the sky (well, maybe not the soap flakes...) - just not 10 inches of it at once.Oops

Speaking of the weather, it's at 51 F currently (and dropping),with some of the liquid stuff coming down (nope, NOT soap...) Think we're supposed to go down to 37/38 F tonight (and as one of our local weatherfolks likes to say, ) "...possibiity of frost in outlying areas." Yeah, maybe on that!

Dennis (on the RR), it sounds like you may have been a bit happier with welding/fabricating, as well as better at it. Think it over, and whichever does a better job of covering the bills and keeping your stress down...

BF&D, Interesting stories there (and I'd figure likely true, too, for the most part...)Smile, Wink & Grin And Welcome to the Diner! Care to tell our server what you'll have to drink, and fill us in on any MRR'ing/layout stuff you have planned/in process/up-and-running?

Jeremy, hope you hear some good news back on your interview soon. Thumbs Up

Todd, I can see what'll be your next project from her - "Honey, I don't have any place to put my clean clothes..." Whistling (Just a heads-up, it may be coming...)

Well, yesterday after some training (annual waste/fraud/ethics stuff) for w**k, I stopped by the local Charter cable office. Ended up signing up for their broadband (no cable, no phone, just the broadband) - 30Mbps with a 250GB cap for the month (I should be okay with that...), and they had lowered their installation fee. Last time I went and talked with them, it was about $100(!); now it's just under $20. Guess they realized the old price was costing them customers... So next Thursday after w**k (between 5 & 7 p.m.), the 'installer' will be by. I'm guessing to drop off a box and some papers/instructions. I already have a 4 or 5 port Ethernet hub, and will use wired connections for my 'puters. Reason? First, there are already a bunch of WiFi's that people around my apartment building have (based on when I start up my laptop and have forgotten to turn WiFi off the day before), so even if I wanted a wireless setup for myself, all the other ones would be potential interference for my system(s). Hopefully, that will mean I can get in here more often, since I won't be tied down to the restaurant's hours.

And it's about time for me to mosey on home. Will check back in the morning and see if we have any news on the job interviews, layout progress reports, and other fun stuff going on. AngelAngel for healing, comfort, good reports back, and other needs.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape G.

Time never went that fast before I retired. What gives with that???

Since it was -5C up here in Alberta this am, I planned on taking down the last of the flowers in the garden now that they frozen. Hoped to do it in the pm when it warmed up to +7 C but now I don't feel all that energetic. Oh well, tomorrows another day.....

Uh....  HOLY MOLY!  How did it get this late?  Oh, yeah, I have been out to the R&GV RR Museum all morning for a tour group.

How time flies when you're having fun! I've had times when I'd be working on the layout. It'd be 9 am and before I knew it it was after 3 pm and there wasn't much to show for six hours work.

Uh....  HOLY MOLY!  How did it get this late?  Oh, yeah, I have been out to the R&GV RR Museum all morning for a tour group...  Chloe I guess I'll have the Turkey Club Sandwich, potato chips, and one of gthose big dill pickles and a cup of decaf for lunch.  had a pot of dark roast this morning before heading out to the museum...

Jeremy, good luck with the job!

Ken, same to you!  Hope there is still a way to save the toe.  If not, hope it heals quickly and that is all they will ever have to remove.

Barry?  Any news on your tests?  Do pray it comes back negative for cancer!!!

I'm hoping to get a call from a handyman to come over and look at the back porch supports that need repair.  They are just about rotted through...  Don't want the roof collapsing back there!  Have to make a potato salad for the party tomorrow.  Annual reunion of my Department from the Middle School.  Looks like there will only be about 6 of us attending.  I should have hosted something last august, but I was waiting on the Solar panel installation.  Next Spring or Summer I will have it here.  I will be transporting a lady who was at one time the Dept. head of the "Home and Careers/Home economics Dept for the School.  she is a sweet 95 year old lady who is a major character.  27 years ago she taught me how to cross country ski.  She used to do downhill but had to stop after having a major skiing accident in the Alps 40 years ago, so she took up cross county skiing!

Later!

Hi Fellas,

Was at the job interview today and I think it went good. I know I made a few mistakes on the aptitude test well on the math portion anyways, lol.

They said they will be doing the hiring at the end of the month so I have fingers crossed that I get the job but for the time being I will have to stay at the current low paying one. Seeing as its early in the afternoon im going to head down to the layout and work on it some more.

Still feeling a little under the weather but I don't feel as crappy as I did lat night or first thing this morning. I actual started to feel better when the interview was done so maybe some anxiety about the interview was causing some of it. Well, Im heading down to the railroad.

Thanks for the suggestion of the geodesic foamt is Not sure what it is so I'd best do a Google on it!

The lay out room is 17 feet by 13 feet so I've a good bit of room at my disposal. I'm going to put the suspended ceiling in next before I do any more on the lay out. Not a problem to do now but it will be if I don't do it now!

Good morning. It's 76° heading to 88°. Humidity is 76%. About as interesting as a root canal.

Went to my parents place for breakfast this morning and had some face time with my younger sister and her significant other. I think I may get some work done on the grain elevator today. I need to study some photos and see what pieces go where. The closest I've ever been to one was about two hundred yards in a heavy thunder storm. Yeah, didn't see much. I'll also be looking in on the forum to see what mod duties I have to attend to. Other than that there's not much going on. Looks like the sale of my parents house isn't going to take place as soon as we thought. Stupid bank has had the paper work supposedly ready to go for a couple of months but didn't bother scheduling the termite inspection until this last Tuesday. People must have been trained by Ken's bank of stupid. The guy showed up yesterday. Couldn't find any termites but said a treatment was going to cost $3,000. If there are no termites why the heck does it need a treatment. It seems that termites or no it needs a treatment. Sure frosted my fathers butt. He more or less told the guy to pack up his stuff and get out. Time to get a second opinion.

Good morning, Kansas.  Chloe, I have time for a cinnamon roll with my coffee.  I usually have one week a month that I schedule too much stuff.  I thought that today was the end, but MIL decided that they need to see us before they take off.  They live in a 38' 5th wheel so they are gypsies.

Dennis, Thanks for sharing the photos on your layout.  Have you considered the geodesic foam made by Bragdon for you landscape?  Your foundation would be perfect for it.  I have found it easier to work with than plaster cloth.

 Morning All

 Flo, Coffee pleases.

Nasty rainy day with Lightning on and off. Yep, summer is over!

Vince Far as headers, I have found in most cases it save you time in the long run to pull the motor to install headers. Lot less fighting that way, plus when I was in my prime I could pull my motor in about a hour is not a little quicker.

Best headers I have ever bought are Hooker Headers, I love my Hookers! Smile, Wink & Grin Ones on my Road Runner are around 30 years old now and have not rusted out and have never leaked! Yes

Going to have to get ready today for the interview around 9:30 AM. Wish me luck on the interview, I really want to get away from where I am working now.

 See you all later.

Good Morning!!!

(yaaaaaawn) Coffee please. No just coffee this morning I’ll grab something later.

Occasional showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 50. North wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%.

Guess I dozed off in the back booth. I thought I’d get an early nighty night time last night and make up a couple hours lost in the 4 am wakeup of yesterday on the frontside of the sleep cycle instead of the backside, which doesn't work with a dog and a wife who won't let the thing out in the morning. Her response to the dogs asking to go out? "ssssh. Let daddy sleep. You'll wake him up."Indifferent So I get home from w**k and was in the sack by 9:30Yes. Well. That didn’t go as plannedThumbs Down. Woke up at 11:30Sigh. Didn’t get back to sleep til…well last time I saw was 0157, so shortly after that. During that time I stopped in to see what was going on and I guess I fell asleep.

Got about 1.2 inches of water in the rain gage overnight. While I was up it was raining and had a couple pretty good rumblings of thunder, but no lightning that I saw. Since most farmers around here are in beans, I doubt Brenda will get anything after their loads from last night. Of course those will drizzle in all day.

Vincent- Wouldn’t waste the money on headers for just that reason. Sometimes they go easy, sometimes you almost have to rebend the entire thing. Not to say I have had to fight with every header from every company, but brands that I've dealt with over the years some went on great and leaked, and some had to fight....and leaked. But I must say I have not had to fight with the headers from only two companies and they both start with the letter H. They are both quality headers and they last much longer than the el cheapo rust monsters. AND….they fit. Of course they cost more than $100, but you get what you pay for, and sometimes it’s worth the extra. And….sometimes it’s not. That’s where experience comes in. When it comes to cars and making them go fast, trust me, getting that experience is the fun part so have fun. Just don’t scrimp on safety. I’d rather be alive or even walking, than to be cool.

Today is STILL laundry dayIndifferent. My GOSH how much laundry can that woman have?!  I mean, really. She can clothe an entire third world country. And I don’t know where it’s coming from either. It just.. keeps... showing... up. Like literally coming out of the woodwork. And I’m not talking a pair of pants here, a shirt there, I mean a load here a couple loads there. There is still a giant pile in the laundry room, granted there is a sheet set in there and some winter coats and some bath mats, but the pile is returning at her bedside. And the laundry hamper which she took downstairs MONTHS ago is still full. My laundry is done, but I’ll need to do it again before I finish hers. Trouble is, there is no place to put the clean stuff now. Every drawer, every closet is full. And there is still more. STILL MORE!!! I’m gonna wear out the washing machine before I get the laundry done. Probably run out of soap too. Best call Walmart and give em a heads up they’ll be needing to double up their order on soap powders. I might have to pay the water bill in installments. MAN…..I mean REALLY??? This is insane.

News Flash…..Woman has too many clothes.

To add insult to injury, she came home at lunchtime yesterday…..and changed clothesSurprise. Why? Too hot.

Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Good Morning

Well...here in London ON the start of the cool down is upon us...yesterday we hit 77F today? 57F and falling...tomorrow will be the high of 50F...with a little tinkly shower or two....

We had to water the trees around here ourselves pretty much through the whole summer as we seem to  have had about 25-30% of the rain we usually get around here...and, apparently we look to be settling into a below normal pattern for the fall as well...yay.

Today will be not a relaxed day for moi...as I have a few things to still do...such as HD things have piled upGrumpy...so I better be working here...Whistling

Good Morning!

I am running a little later than usual today, but I have already been busy. Went to Lothar´s place, as he had a piece of foam board left, just the way I need it. It took an hour to measure, cut and glue the stuff to the modules, and now the scenery contour is in place. It takes the PVA I use ages to dry when gluing foam board, so there will be no more action on the modules for the rest of the day.

Lots of rain coming down today - our usual October weather!

Zoe, just a cup of coffee, please, it´s nearing lunchtime here.

BF&D - thank you for the reminiscence on Noblesville street running!

Have good day , y´ all!

I remember Noblesville street running

Regarding Noblesville and the ITM  -  and the late lamented Nickel Plate (last month):

My grandfather, Foster "Pop" Caple was a NKP conductor  -  when I was nine or ten (1952 or 3) he took me with him on a way freight run north from Indianapolis.  We drove through thick early morning fog, and stopped along a country road where he knew of an artesian spring pipe with sulphur water  -  I didn't want to drink the stinky stuff.  I have a vague recollection we started at Castleton (SW of Fishers, now part of 'Naptown), but could be mistaken.  Rode in the caboose, about 7 or 8 cars, with a Geep on the front.  I remember a good deal of street running, and breaking the train to not block cross streets when we stopped for lunch at a cafe  -  no more cooking in the caboose then.  But I heard a version of the same folk tale that Utah Phillips embellished in "Moose Turd Pie" (you complain about the food, you get to cook next time) from Pop that day, telling me about the rule, and a brakeman who sat down to eat and exclaimed "This soup's too *** salty, and that's just the way I like it."  Or as Utah's version ends, the moose turn pie eater says "Good Though"    [  http://www.amazon.com/Moose-Turd-Pie/dp/B0010W2H8A  ]

One indelible memory was the stink at the paper mill  -  perhaps a "strawboard" plant  -  we switched that day.  Pop took me to see one of the foremen and I got a quick tour  -  phew!!  Lots worse that the sulphur water.

Evening guys

I'm wore out. Worked from 6am to 3pm. Came home, and worked on the car somemore. It took almost 2 hours to get the header gaskets in and the headers bolted. I swear I won't buy headers from this manufactuer anymore. Had to take the valve covers off, and the alternator has to be moved. Of course the cable has to be unbolted and the bolt broke in the alternator. My father has a spare, but since the valve covers are off, he wanted to change the springs, pushrods, and rockers. Easier said then done when the engine is in the car...

Didn't do anything other than look for some styrene Ls I could use for the remaining F-unit fuel tanks. I think I found one, I just have to get some other filler piece because these will sit in a little further.

Dennis, slow isn't neccesarily a bad thing. I'm pretty slow at stuff myself, but I keep plugging away at it. Hang in there

Anyways, I'm going to bed. talk to you guys later

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
