Didn't get much of a chance to work on the layout today. Too busy with family and watching my sisters, niece and their significant others working to clear the west wing of the house. I think they're realizing what a task they've set for themselves. Even that side of the house on it's own is huge. My whole trailer (8x25) could fit in the kitchen with room to spare!

Time for me to call it a night. I have a doctors appointment in the morning. General physical. I should be back to my duties on the forum no later than noon. See y'all tomorrow.

Evening guys

Just got back from the track. I got a new best of 8.57 @ 82. So about .1 seconds faster, but 4 mpg over my previous best. I had pulled some of the interior out and saved about 120 pounds, but I forgot to bring the spacers for the skinny front tires (won't clear my brakes without them) and I also forgot to put the cowling back over the air filter. So I probably cost myself .2-.3 seconds. Turns out I have a bum oxygen sensor now, so the fact it ran halfway decent is suprising. It's weird because it works normally at wide-open throttleor anything above 2100, but at normal driving rpms is causes the car to studder. Tomorrow I'll change the sensor and put the interior back in. Not going racing for another month or so.

I did do some work on trains before I left. I partially assembled 3 kits, so I have 3 left to put together. Probably will go to a hobby shop in pensacola, so I can pick up some styrene, Kadees, and some athearn mini-bulbs.

I'll swing by later.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

 Evening Dinners!

 Flo, Beer Pleases.

Work Front Well it was pretty uneventful today except one little detail, I was 1 hour late!  Yes, it was my fault, I remembered the schedule wrong. I normally go in at 11:00 AM and get off at closing at 6:00 PM or when the last customer leaves, which ever comes first.  I knew I got off today at 5:00 PM so I thought wrongly I went in either at 10:00 AM or 11:00 AM.  I called at 9:24 AM to find out if it was 10 or 11, oops I should have been there at 9:00 AM. At this point the only reason I feel bad is Chris was over whelmed for the first hour till I got there. But, even with that I don't feel to badly, he was the one that called in sick last Wednesday when I was slammed from 3:30 PM till 8:00 PM.

If I get the new job the shop maybe in a world of hurt. It seems Brad (he was demoted to sales person from services manager) is all so trying to get out of there! He will find out Monday he thinks if he has a job at Jiffy Lube. I am hoping to find out Monday as well. If Brad and I Both get hired Monday I might stick around the rest of the week. If I am asked really nice that is! Whistling

While I don't disk like Eric or Chris I have no loyalty to this company with the way I have been treated. Or I should say made to feel like I was bothering them when I was hopping to be trained.

  See you all later!

Evening All,

We met our daughter for supper tonight. I rigged up my structure lights so to turn them on I will have to plug a power strip into the wall. I was thinking of future modeling projects and I have 3 in mind to do:

1. Finish the container terminal.

2. Detail my RS-1.

3. Install Yard lights around the engine servicing facility.

It's always good to have things to doSmile

Happy Thanksgiving to all of our Diners north of the border.

Have a good evening and prayers for those in need.

Jeff, does your trailer have pretty good insulation (temperature-wise, I know you have good electrical insulation/grounding)? Who cooked this morning, your Dad or you?

My father usually does the cooking. I help with the preparation which includes cutting up the onions and cheese. My trailer is insulated well enough that it was 75 in here this morning when it was 45 outside and the heater hadn't even been plugged in yet.

Good afternoon, Janie - I'll have a RBF,  please. Thanks!

Ray, try here: http://www.pacficcoastairlinerr.com/tank_bands (If they aren't still there, email me)

I was wondering where Galaxy has been, also. Galaxy?

Garry, good to see you have 'switched' your 44-tonner over successfully. Wink Check your email, too.

Curt, I just focused my attention on the layout and ignored the lamps in the back, and it looks like you did a good job on all those buildings. Thumbs UpThumbs Up I'll have to go back to your post about how you did it again (and find the details). Good score on the stock cars, too!

Barry, looks like you are getting your appetite back (from the empty platters I see on the counter in front of you...). Dinner Your area may have more/better color in the leaves than we do this year. So far, ours are still fairly green - usually by this point, we've had a cool-down and some rain (which seems to 'snap' the colors). However, I've heard that the trees may drop their leaves quicker due to the lack of rain over the summer (and rest of the year).

Karl, your CFO makes some spicy chili, does she? Luckily, I understand that they keep a good supply of RBF ingredients in stock here at the Diner. Smile, Wink & Grin There's one woman at w**k, who when they have a lunch (for somebody's birthday, or somebody leaving, whatever), often may bring her home-made salsa and chips. I have learned to only take a small, teensy-tiny sample of that...DevilWow Have fun with your choices today (including maybe some Zzz time...)

And since Karl talked about cats, anyone see the set of ads that are on TV now? There's one with dogs 'negatively' portrayed (has 'Party crasher' on the screen as a dog climbs out of water and then proceeds to shake itself dry - all over the party guests, also has 'Potty mouth' with a picture of a dog licking water out of a toilet bowl, etc.) And there's a matching cat one, too. Viewers (if I recall correctly) are at the end asked to tweet to an address their 'vote'...Whistling I never have caught the fine print at the bottom; figure it's some fund-raising thing for a pet shelter/humane society/etc.

Ken, I'm gonna go with Karl in assuming that you're kidding about the grinder and your toe, right? Not precise enough to do the job. Definitely a Dremel task! (You are kidding, yes?) (Whew! Saw your post today...)

JaBear, yeah, but you're catching your zzz's while we're still playing catchup with your day. Wink

Todd, from what you reported Brenda saying, yep, I expect that you are about to lose some more hours today...OopsWhistling Now, why is it that you don't get to catch up on what you had to put off yesterday (or the day before, or...)? Huh?

Lee, good to hear Dorothy's resting up well from her surgery. And good deal on the LED's - how many fit into a caboose lantern, by the way?

Jeff, does your trailer have pretty good insulation (temperature-wise, I know you have good electrical insulation/grounding)? Who cooked this morning, your Dad or you?

Paul, that is good that your wife is getting better care at the hospital than yesterday. AND that she is feeling better some today. Yeah You and your daughters enjoy your fine dining at that street festival! Dinner

"1:1 PRR-Dennis" Wink - hope you get some layout time in today. Thumbs Up

Jeremy (and all our other NOTB Diners), hope you have a very enjoyable Thanksgiving Day tomorrow!

Johnboy - we have a similar tradition for celebrating SOTB here on our Thanksgiving Day. Smile, Wink & Grin Staying out of the way, yes indeed! Don't want to slow down things in the kitchen (before or after the meals...)Whistling

Ah, I see Jeffrey was celebrating his family dinner  in much the same way! Dinner

As for myself today, I started clearing away some stacks of paper (hoping to have a nice wide path for the cable guy to come hook up my broadband on Thursday - a guy has to start early for some things...). Have weeded out a substantial pile of "shred or just toss out" stuff. WIll possibly shred anything with account numbers, etc. on it, and the rest may go out right before the dumpster truck arrives later this week.

I also (a little like some of what Barry did) went through one of my older drives to find any duplicated 'Tunes that I already have in my current music library. Cleared out one smaller (160GB) drive, and found that another drive (230GB) has something that won't allow me to make a new folder or drag any files to the trash. But then again, it's down a Firewire (IEEE 1394b/a) chain. I will go back later and hook that drive up directly to the MacBook Pro's drive and see if that changes things. If that doesn't do it, time to get out my drive utility programs.

I'll be at the RC for a bit before I head home.

Prayers for our MIA Diners (including Galaxy), for good reports on jobs and healing, and for others in need.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape G.

Went to my parents place for dinner. My mother was home from the nursing home for the day. She's being taken back there now. Before I left to come back home we all got together for a family photo. Myself, my father, mother, both sisters, their significant others, my niece and her significant other. Somehow the camera didn't blow into a million pieces. I've had all I can eat for today. I have a doctor appointment in the morning so that'll be the morning shot.

Hi Gang, haven't you got anything better to do than hang out here on a Sunday afternoon ?

Chloe Dear, please, when you are able, would you bring me a double RBF and a plate of home fries.

I must try and keep my cholesterol level up.  Lol.

I'm sitting here at work and it is raining out and we haven't seen a visitor all day.  So having the time I've been Web-Surfing a little and I have come up with your History lesson for this week.  I really think you will enjoy this.     Thumbs UpThumbs Up

If someone could make it clickable I sure would appreciate that.  Can't seem to do it here.

Go to www.byutv.org  then look for "American Ride" episodes and then scroll to "Rivers and Railroads"

I think this is a great lesson for us all. Great video ,both inside and outside of the B&O Railroad Museum, and down the old line and some canal shots too.

You will also enjoy any of the other episodes that might peak your interest as I have learned more history here in the 50 plus episodes ( haven't seen them all yet) than I did in four years of high school.

This is a very well done series, and I am proud to forward or recommend it to you.

Tomorrow is our Thanksgiving, but we will be going out tonight to a family gathering about 11 miles east of the city. I'll definitely come back with a tummy full of turkey. After the feast all the women get together and make donuts in a great quantity that are then frozen and used over the Christmas Season.  This is an annual ritual.  The Guys usually watch football or play cards.   We consider ourselves as being helpful by just staying out of the way.

So a very Happy Thanksgiving to all my Canadian Buddies here and all other I hope you have had a great week-end as well.

Sure wish Rob and Galaxy would check in. Bama too.

Johnboy out .................for now......................and back to work................wish there was something to do

Hi Fellas,

Cool out there today ( only 43f).

Today started off kind of bad. The wife had to go to the ER room this morning. We were in and out very quickly though ( only a hour ) I know some people can spend 6-7 hours waiting in there. She was okay enough to go to work, even though I didn't want her to go. She couldn't get a hold of her boss to tell her the situation but the good thing is its only a 5 hour shift so she thinks she will be fine.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and we will be going to family for dinner. Hope to do a little model railroading later after dinner ( and before the Simpsons and family guy are on,lol ). Well im going to go turn the furnace on a but to take the chill out of the house.

Good morning

Galaxy .... Hope you are okay. How are we supposed to start the day without you?

Bear ... Glad you liked the MR HQ tour photos. I was only trying to share with everybody and not stir up envy. I hope MR publishes more of the MR&T because it is outstanding.

Speaking of my tour of MR, I saw the Bachmann Schabel Car there. Remarkable model!

Thanks everybody for commenting on my scene with the GE 44T.

Curt, if your is the old 2-motor version of the GE 44T, I think it is best not to try to work on it because they have a cheapie mechanism.

Todd, the old iron fence was from an old kit I purchased at a train show many years ago. It was cast out of soft metal and had several sections that were about 4" long. It is installed on the layout end-to-end. It has one gate, but I needed two and scratch built the 2nd one. The gate is in the photo but mostly hidden by the fence. It took a while to paint it and weather it to get coloring I wanted. I think the kit was mad by Alloy Forms, but I'm not certain and I did not keep the box.

Have a nice day, everybody!

  Morning All,

Currently 47 with an expected high of 73 under mostly sunny skies.

Since it is almost Columbus Day one of the larger casino/hotels, The Eldorado is having their annual Italian Festival. And since I am Italian, it is something my kids and I enjoy going to. They close off three or four blocks of Virginia Street, the main downtown street and have lots of street vendors, selling GREAT food. That is the reason we go. Lots of authentic regional stuff you cannot get everywhere. So my daughters and I will meet at the hospital, vist the wife/mom for awhile, and then head over to get some chow.

Still early enough that I might get some layout work done.

   Prayers to all in need.

Morning All,

Did not sleep worth a darn last night. MOH  says her stomach is upset so I hope she has not caught the stomach virus going around here.

Today I plan on weathering the cars that I picked up yesterday and take a look at what it would take to be able to make the building lighting turn on/off  instead of on all the time. I figure that will extend the life of  the LED's.

Paul- Good for you for sticking to your guns. I had a similar type incident with MOH in January after surgery and had to raise heck to get a potentially fatal problem evaluated properly.

Todd- I feel your pain.

Lee- I hope Dorothy continues to do well.

Ken- I continue to send positive thoughts and prayers your way for the better job and keeping your toe.

Sure hope everything is OK with Galaxy.

Talk to you all later.

Hope everyone has a good day and prayers for those in need.

Ken: I figured you were kidding about the toe.

*

Went to my parents place for breakfast this morning. Scrambled eggs, bacon, biscuits, gravy. Came back home and vacuumed the dust out of the heater and tested it. It's working OK. Haven't required it's services yet. Weather guesser says the coolest night this coming week will be in the high forties. Shouldn't even need the heater unless we get a good north wind off the lake. Projected forecast says 10mph so that shouldn't be a problem. No heat on so far and it's a nice 70° in here. It's 50° outside with 16mph ENE gusts.

 Morning Folks

 Flo, Coffee Pleases.

Boy there a lot of people that have been in this morning, good to see the dinner lively.

Well as most of you have guessed I was kidding around last night about hacking my toe off. Whistling Was in a weird mood when I posted it. Besides I would have used a Saw's All anyway!

Possible New Job Front. Hope to hear something from them Monday or Tuesday, even if they don't hire me. I still have some high hopes. While money does not make one happy, it would sure be nice not to have to worry about making a house payment!.

Went to the NMRA Division 4 train show yesterday and brought back a modest haul. I bought 10 CHIP SMD LED lights to light some of my Cabooses (side lanterns). If you haven’t seen these lights about 24 of them will fit on a postage stamp.  I also bought two H32 PRR Covered hoppers.

Dorothy had her foot surgery Friday and is doing well.  She has a follow up on Friday.

I’m still behind on posts; I hope everyone is doing well.

Good Morning All:

Howmus: Water tower metal bands. I would try a well-stocked automotive store and look at the various pin striping materials if you’re looking for flat metal bands you could layer the appropriate pin stripping material.  If you’re looking for cable bands then go to a fishing tackle shop ant look at metal fishing leaders, especially the ones in the fly fishing section.  The wire leaders’ diameter can range from thick dental floss to pencil lead.  You can secure them by drilling a small hole into the water tank and gluing the ends inside then add a decorative turnbuckle or metal band to the seam on the outside. Another option is elastic thread from a craft store and secure it as mentioned previously.  A light dry brushing of rust here and there before you applied it would really make the banding pop on the side of your tower.

Oh Garry, forgot to mention your scene. Great by the way, I especially like your scrub growth. Very nice. NO! I mean the weeds and grass not your whiskers. But please, a question. The fencing, corrugated sheeting it looks like, did you scratchbuild that or was it a kit. I like it and could use that type fence would be perfect for my gas station/ bait/ eats place. If I ever get back to it.

Morning gang!

Looking for rainUmbrella and 51 today, blech!

The guy is coming to get the trailer today   ! He's even taking the module racks (he aint getting the modules). Can't wait to get started on the basement, as soon as a few other items get handled.
Yeah, I may someday do the modular display thing again (never say never, right?), but only if it fits inside the cap on the truck,,,,no more truck and trailer dog & pony show again!

Not much going on here other than that today,,might update the webpage,,might work on a friends units I have been procrastinating on, might watch Nascar, or the Orioles, or the Ravens,,might take a nap.
So many possibilities!!!!Smile, Wink & Grin

Jeff- Took me a look or two to realize the town in the backdrop of one of your pictures of the old layout was added to the larger backdrop instead of part of it. Nice effect. Curious, why didn’t you use the same backdrop…..oh wait, just realized, no mountains in LA. What area were you modeling back then?

It wasn't any particular area, just a general mountainous landscape.

Good Morning!!!

Eeew!!!Surprise What the heck is this? Looks like a toe. Probably some Halloween prank.

Ray- The Bear beat me to it, (not retired so he probably gets up earlier than me and then there’s the whole running behind thing too (chuckle)) but I was also thinking how about fishing line? They come in several thicknesses. Just a thought. Don’t know if any glue sticks to them but CA may.

Well I received some bad news this morning. Very bad. Horrible actually. Apparently yesterdays trip on the Spoon River Festival for Brenda turned out tragic. For me anyway. It seems she didn’t get to all the places she wanted so that means she is going again today. And THAT means I will be going along. At least that is how I interpret “Well we’re going today so dress warm.”

Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Good morning. It's 48° headed to a high of 62. Humidity is 92%. It'll be mostly cloudy.

Nothing particular on the agenda today, just whatever I get around to doing. I have a throbbing pain in my left ankle that's really bugging me. Bone pain isn't fun. Darn medicine side effect. There are several I take that can cause it so it's difficult to lock it down to a particular one. Oh well, it'll stop eventually.

I removed the SP F7 body from the Mantua dummy chassis and put it on a powered Athearn clone chassis, a cut down Proto or Stewart. It has a Bachmann decoder so it's slow on startup but it runs smooth and picks up speed quickly. I'll have to modify the mounting slots on the sides of the body as they don't go back quite far enough. That's an easy fix.

Good evening all, I see Bill from Tipton has recently posted his morning call which is s sign for me that it must be getting close to my bed time. Being ahead time zone wise is great for getting Weekend Photo Fun off to a flying start, but the down side is that I'm off to w**k while you State-side Folks have still got a Sunday afternoon to enjoy.Sigh

No time for modelling today, plenty of gardening to be done before planting the summer vegetables, started hacking into the garden next to the drive, over grown with ivy and jasmine. "Her in doors"would like a couple of hydrangeas and as it is sloping a water feature with a waterfall. Oh well the exercise and the vitamin D doesn't do me any harm though still a bit pale after winter.

I am still trying to figure out how to model the metal bands on a wooden water tower I am making for the power plant.  I have tried several things so far that have not worked.  I found some .09 music wire (Guitar string) a week ago and annealed it.  Thought i could get to glue in place, but all i ended up with was globs of glue and a loose band....  It may be better to leave the detail off the tower rather than have something just not look right....  I may start a thread out in the main forum and see what gets suggested.  I have even thought about using decals for the bands.

How about using the appropriate thickness nylon fishing line Ray ?

Heartland Gary, thanks for posting the photos of your visit to MR, if it wasn't  uncharitable I say that I was green with envy.

CudaKen, Hope your soldering iron had enough wattage to quickly cauterise your toe surgery. Good luck with the job interview.

Currently 43F with a forecast high of 60F tomorrow with rain and freshening northerlies.

Thoughts and best wishes to all those that need them.

Cheers,the Bear.

RAY,  How about some fine pin stripping automotive tape for those bands.

Do you think that might work.

Johnboy out..............................

Anent to the above suggestion, if you have a model car related hobby shop you might find some chrome..or silver(?) tape for the trim on the models. It might be a little thinner?

Good Morning!!

Another fine morning to be had in our wonderful neck of the woods. The colours are just starting to peak out up here for our Thanksgiving weekend, which means that we are seeing a lot of yellows and reds and other such bright coloured leaves....I'm looking forward to walking through all kinds of leaves hereSmile, Wink & Grin

Right now, current temperature is 36F going to a low of 34F....clear night skies ..high later today at 54F...

Today is going to be a rather slow one up here, as our usual coffee klatch crew is meeting here rather than at the diner...have a good day!!Smile, Wink & Grin

Good Morning Gang!

That blooming cold has got the grips on me - I have not slept a minute this night, just coughing and sneezing. You know, when men suffer from a heart attack, that´s not worth mentioning, but you should see them when they have a cold!

I feel awkward.

Have a good one!
