Lee, when I had to put my Mom's old cat to sleep after taking care of her for 3 years, it took Manet over 6 months to stop sniffing the computer where old Shiela used to rub herself. He would sniff and then look over at me and start to meow......... Make sure kittie #2 gets plently of attention during this time.

Where the heck did that come from? Just pulled out my box of motor's and parts. Looked in the box and right on top there was a motor marked PK2! Looks like my PK 2000 Rio Grand SD 7 will be back on the rails soon! Just tested the motor and free wheeling it is only using .09 amps and stalls at .89 amps!
Model Builder (Jay from the site) sent me the box a few years ago. Never noticed it with it looking like a Athearn motor. Just happen to be laying the right way for me to see the PK2 markings on the side!

Lee When we lost our first Wolfhound, Tiffany (American Eskimo) took it hard as well. All she did was lay around and looked sad. Then we got Shaddy (current Wolfhound) and she did perk up some. Not like Sonya was back but she was more lively. Might all so be for the fact that Shaddy was still a pup and kept wanting to play with Tiff.
Lots of running to do today. Think we will BBQ today, been months.

Good morning. It's 73° and a bit damp here. The high will be 85° and there's a fair chance of showers and thunderstorms.Today will be a do-nothing day for me as I've already broken two freight cars while putting them away. You don't even want to know what my blood sugar reading was this morning. Let's just say it was high enough to get me depressed and there's no danger of a crash. Right now I'm watching a train travel around the layout, same motive power as last night. Later I'll switch them off and and put on the two FT's.

Sakel no it’s true, Trains Miniature, Athearn, and Roundhouse kits use to cost around $1.25 to $5 each back in the 1980’s. I can remember picking up Life-Like and Atlas products in the hobby isle of Kmart. TYCO stuff was always more affordable and I can remember the local 7-11 selling them for 50 cents for a box car. The Trains Miniature kits were tough to build since they had actual springs in the trucks fortunately they always gave you one or two extra springs in each kit.

Thanks for your well wishes but Jasmine is in a better place, I had hoped that the VET would have had a treatment plan that would have avoided putting her to sleep, but when she lost the use of her back legs I knew that our options were going to be very limited yesterday. What really helped me was the VET did a great job of showing/explaining to me what was wrong and what all the options were and what the outcomes would have been. Tiger (Cat #2) is taking it harder than I am. Tiger would sleep with the dog, play with the dogs toys, Jasmine and Tiger were buddies. Now Tiger stands at the back door waling her head off thinking I forgot to let Jasmine back inside or sleeps on Jasmines bed and wales every time I walk by.
I sent a note to my Daughter, who works for a veterinarian to keep an eye out for a good Labrador retriever puppy in need of rescuing. Then again I never find my dogs, they seem to find me….

Evening all from SunnyCal. Yesterday at this time (5:30 PM) it was 101. Right now it's 81 and falling. Swear to God if you don't like the weather out here just wait five minutes! Our heat wave is broken, finally, after about 6 days of 100+ temperatures. Actually, the high today was 89 and that was about three o'clock in the afternoon. Supposed to be in the high 80's for the next four or five days.
That forest fire up around Colfax has grown, it's now about 850 acres and is threatening the towns of Foresthill and Iowa Hill. Very steep country up there, that American River Canyon is pretty sheer in places. Ever seen a photo of SP's "Cape Horn" with the 1100 foot drop-off? That's the general area of the fire, which is burning several miles to the south of it. As it stands right now, there's only two back-country Forest Service roads that allow ground crew access, so most of the fire is being fought from the air. Luckily--and I say this guardedly--the winds are relatively calm up there, though there can be some tricky up-drafts in the steep canyon bottoms. So far, it's about 10% contained.
Got the base coat on my 4-10-2 today, I'll let it dry for about 24 hours before starting to detail and decal it. It's easier than my Rio Grande steam, since all it requires is a silver smokebox front and some red trim around the cab windows. My Rio Grande locos require silver for the smokebox front and cylinder heads, darker graphite for the smokebox and fireboxes, white for the running board trim and lots and lots of patience. Next to those lokies, this 4-10-2 is a snap!
Lee: I'm so sorry to hear about Jasmine--no matter what anyone says, it HURTS to lose a pet. And Labs are such sweet dogs. My prayers for you.
Ken: Glad you got some kind of settlement from the mattress company. And I hope things start turning around for you soon.

Time for me to call it a night. I didn't do any layout work today. My hands are too unsteady and I'm in quite a bit of pain. I did run a train for a while. Well actually I just let it run while I watched it go around the layout again and again. The GP35/SD27J/8-40B got the honors today. I didn't really feel like doing much in the way of moving cars around. Just the sound of the wheels on the rails was relaxing. Hopefully I'll be able to get at least a few hours of sleep. Rain is still falling off and on and more is expected tomorrow to the tune of at least 50%. It's so wet now that just thinking of going outside I can hear squishy footsteps. See y'all tomorrow.

Yesterday was busy as all get out. Worked from 6-2, pressure washed at work from 2-6, then helped my father with his car until 8... Never made it to the forum as I was, dirty, wet (it rained hard and came with no warning when pressure washing), and just plain worn out after 14 hours of work.
The mail has yielded me a stewart DRGW F7B shell, which will eventually be used in the F-unit project. I just want to get a picture of it on a chassis along with the DRGW F9 AB shells from Ken, before I strip and re-paint them
Lee, Sorry to hear about jasmine. It's hard to loose a friend like that.
Ken, At my place they can't make it so I step on a box, the screen door swings outwards so it's just knock them out of the way. Luckily you (and the shells) are okay.

Ah... what a day. I came very, very close to not being here tonight. I mean THAT literally! On my way over to the guy's house this morning driving West on 5 & 20 a guy in a pick up truck pulled off the main lane of the road and was going up the shoulder intending to turn right at the next intersection... I was passing him in my lane, when an idiot pulled out right in front of me from the road entering 5 & 20! Lucky I was only doing about 50 as I had slowed down because of the pickup truck a bit.... I saw the car entering so he/she should have been able to see me as well. I had no where to go and just locked up all 4 wheels braking. He hit the gas and somehow (less that an inch I would guess) we missed crashing.... All I could see was my Yaris closing the gap way too fast! He had the sense to floor his car, other wise I would broadsided him right where he was sitting. Lucky he wasn't driving a bigger car either. Another inch or two longer we would have connected! I looked in my rear view mirror and he pulled his car off the road on the other side (the intersection is a T)....., probably to clean the seat and change his clothes! I did the same a couple hundred feet up the road on my side. Got out and checked to make sure we hadn't made contact anywhere and so I could stop shaking!
The tour was fun! I got to be out in his garage with the country bad he had (husband and wife team). Banjo, mandolin, guitar, and steel guitar. They were singing and playing old railroad songs. After the second bus left they played a few more for all the crew that was there helping.
After it broke up, I drove over to the Apple Computer place to check on progress on the hard drive. My worst fears have been realized... The drive itself is shot! He was able to easily repair the node tree problem but when he started to transfer the data to the new HD, it kept freezing up. The drive is just worn out! He has been able to get some of the data off it, but it runs for a while and then quits... Just like the G5 was doing back a few months ago... i think I mentioned the G5 became stable again after I removed the Western Digital drive.... Hmmmmmm? Yeah, the problem back then was the same drive. the G5 was probably fine! Anyway the drive may have to go to a place where they have the equipment to do complete data recovery. Lucky the price on that has come down a lot. BTW, the drive has all my photos and old business data on it. I never got around to back it up over the past couple of years... I do have DVDs of the dta but about 2 years are missing....
Lee, very sorry to hear about Jasmine! They do leave behind a big empty spot in your heart don't they. My prayers to you and yours.

Ken.... Yep, Energy Star does make a difference doesn't it! Another thing that is quite painless is to put as many of your appliances that have a little light always on (TV, Radios, Coffee maker, and many more) on a power strip and turn it off when you are not using it. It does really add up. I got a device called a "Kill-a-Watt" that plugs in to the wall and then you plug the appliance into it. amazing how much power you can lose from appliances that are still "on" when they are "off"! That is also how I figured out I can mow my lawn for a little over 10¢ of electricity. The Kill-a-Watt records exactly how much energy you are using over a predetermined period of time. Knowing full well I live in little ranch house and have made many energy saving improvements over the years and that there is only one of me, but my June electric bill (including all taxes, delivery fees, destination charges, wire charges, just because we can charges, and all that) was all of $70.61....

Letter Carrier stuck them under the door step to my front door. I went out to get the mail and stepped on the box with my left foot. My right foot is in the stupid boot I was given to ware.
