My locomotive roster is quite modest compared to some, but it keeps the 4x8 Deere Valley & Western Railroad quite busy.

The Deere Valley & Western is a freelanced road serving the agricultural region near Stockton, California circa 1960. Formed with assistance of the John Deere Company, it sees a lot of John Deere Equipment on its rails. Though it has no motive power or rolling stock of its own, it has signed lease and trackage rights agreements with the Union Pacific, AT&SF, Western Pacific, Southern Pacific and of course John Deere.

Union Pacific
2 F7A's, #1480 & #1480a
1 4-8-8-4 Big Boy #4013
1 4-6-6-4 Challenger #3985
1 0-4-0 Switcher #3179 (on display in a park)
1 F40PH #3901

AT&SF
3 F7A Warbonnets #326, #328 and #45C
3 F7B Warbonnets (currently un-numbered)
1 GP38-2 #3500

Western Pacific
1 4-8-2 Mountain #171

John Deere
1 0-8-0 #638
2 F7A's #1936 & #1953

The CB&W maintains a large variety of both house and leased equipment, and maintains it's motive power long after modern competitors due to the cost of replacement. Currently (01/09/1955) in the roundhouse are:

BN F9A
BN F7B
CB&W 4-6-2
CB&W S-12
CB&W 2-truck Shay
CB&W F45 (thanks to Doc Brown for this one)
SP 2-8-0
SP USRA lt Mountain (4-8-2)
SP GS-4 (4-8-4)
SP GP9 (x2)
SP PA-PB-PA unit
SP AC-9 (2-8-8-4)
UP 2-6-0

And there's another SP 2-8-0 on the way that will become a house engine after a trip to the shop to repair the cab and smokebox afetr a bad crash.

All run on the snap-tracked ROW owned by the CB&W, but only a few months of the year. The CB&W is investigating obtaining permenant trackage rights, but both finances and leases are currently impeding the process.

I have four Loco's on my layout but due to some sharp turns in the track only two of them can run.

The Runners:

2-6-0 Central Vermont Steam Loco

Thomas the Tank Engine

Non-Runners:

4-6-0(I think) Hogwarts Express

0-2-0 Central Pacific Steam Loco

An old Mantua 0-4-0.  It's in the shop being repainted/relettered for the PRR.

I started out with a lot of impulse buys but have developed a roster paln for my 1981 era layout and all new purchases will be limited to this plan.  All layout locomotives are DCC and I am moving to sound.  Joe Fugate made an interesting suggestion for sound.  My road freights are multiple unit lash ups of six axle units.  I will put sound unit in a dummy unit in the lash up.  I run 35 car trains on the layout and two powered SD units can easily handle the train.  I also hope the unpowered sound unit will asd more drag to the train to require helper service to get over the layout.

Kansas City Southern (Not appropriate for my 1981 layout era but I model the KCS)

  • 2 E8A Southern Belle Paint (PK2)
  • 2 E6A Southern Belle Paint (PK2)
  • 2 Erie Built A Southern Belle Paint (Pk2)
  • 1 Erie Built B Southern Belle Paint (PK2)
  • 1 F7A Southern Belle Paint (Stewart)
  • 1 F7B Southern Belle Paint (Stewart)
  • 1 VO600 Black Paint (Stewart)
  • 2 GP30 Red Paint (PK2)
  • 2 SD60 Gray Paint (PK2)

Kansas City Southern (1981 Layout Era)

  • 2 GP30 White Paint (PK2)
  • 2 SD40-2 White Paint (Athearn)

I have a lot to do here and will be using KCS SD40, SD40-2 and SD50 probably Athearn.

Supporting Cast (Interchange with KCS in Kansas City 1981)

  • 1 GP9 MILW (PK2)
  • 3 GP30 ATSF (PK2)
  • 1 GP38 FRISCO(BN) (Atlas)
  • 1 SW7 Kansas City Terminal (Athearn Custom Paint)
  • 1 SW7 Missouri Pacific (PK2)
  • 1 SW7 Norfolk & Western (PK2)
  • 1 SW7 Burlington Northern (PK2)

I will also need a fleet of BN units for my KCS/BN coal service these need to be six axle units.  I am considering Atlas GE units and Athearn SD units.

I need at least one locomotive for the other RRs that interchange with the KCS in Kansas City as my new layout will have several staging yards to represent these RR.  This will allow visitors to run their favirate line on my layout.  All other RR use the KCT interchange.

I still need SW or GP locomotives for the: SSW/SP, UP, MKT, ICG & CNW for this interchange service.

I am unhappy with the performance of the PK2 (GP) locomotives. They sound like a wheel bearing is going out, but the gears have been inspected , cleaned and lubricated and appear to be fine.  The PK2 SW7 and SD60 run great.

here is my kitbashed plastic CPR Steam..............
I think that is the coolest roster I've seen posted here - and not just because of the pictures.  The 4-4-0 does seem a little out of place.

My latest additions are two Atlas Master FM H16-44Ls, unfortunately they are decorated in Southern so the line for the paint shop gets longer.

I wish I could keep track, but there's too many........So I'll put it like this

5-6 Alco's

10-15 GE's (44 ton, many U-boats, Dash 8, Genesis)

20 or so Miscellanious- New York subway , Boeing LRV, Acela trainset, Budd RDC)

And now the motherlode.........................................EMD!

I must own more replicas of GM locomotives than I do replicas of their road vehiclesLaugh [(-D]

several modern F units, nearly all F40PH's, with a few F59PH's

20-30 Geeps, GP30-GP60M

8-10 SD's, SD35- SD70M

2 Amtrak electric "toasters"

1 MP15

It's sort of an addiction I guess, but better than most.................

Dave

My railroad is freelanced so I buy locos with many different roadnames and either reletter them for my road or run them as leased power. I have a large roster of pre-DCC locos on the shelf, some are retired and some will eventually be retrofitted. This is what I have on my active roster.

BLI Pennsy Mountain

BLI Pennsy Pacific

3 BLI Hudsons, 2 NYC and 1 Toronto, Hamilton, and Buffalo (TH&B to be relettered)

BLI Pittsburg and West Virginia Mikado (to be relettered)

Spectrum Consolidation undecorated to be lettered for my road

Spectrum Southern 4-6-0 to be relettered

2 BLI SW7s repainted and lettered for my road

3 Athearn RS-3s 2 D&RGW to be relettered and 1 NYC

2 P1K Erie F3 A-B sets to be relettered

I have two NYC Niagras on back order.

I have plans to add several sound equipped F-7 sets as well. I am waiting for more info on BLIs announced streamlined Hudson due next year. I am always looking to add to roster. Since my road is freelanced and runs a lot of hand-me-down power from more prosperous roads, I can run just about any type of equipment I want from the transition era. I just keep a look out for good deals and if I see one and it fits my era, I'll add it to the roster.

The Midwestern.Energy.Corp.of America.(M.E.C.A.) currently has three locos.

One Athern SW-7 formerly BN now repainted and renumbered MECA#410

One Athern F40-PH in the shop.

One Athern GP-38-highnose also in the shop to be repainted, and renumbered. both

purchased from Santa-Fe last year. The GEEP also needs some electrical work and,

tractiontires if I can find them.
