Evening in the Diner...
Posted by galaxy on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 7:34 PM

Hey Ken...If you didn't know...

Here in the USA It is illegal to require someone to work more than 14 days straight without a complete day off. SO as you approached your 14 day in a row, they would HAVE to give you the 15th day off!!!

{I don't know, That may not apply to salaried managers, but you are only an hourly employee anyway!!!}

SO he can stick it in his pipe, inhale deeply and choke {cough cough} on it!!!

Just thought you'd like to know.

 Evening again!

Flo, thank you dear for the Beer

Cuda Ken's Yard Cutting Tip! YesCool Grass was still wet and tall, mower kept clogging up and dying!  I had maybe cut 15% of the yard, making 6 to 10 inch cuts and it was still clogging. Then I came up with this idea!

I kept the rear wheels of the mower at the normal setting. I raised the front wheels to the highest setting. That was I was cutting the grass at a grade. Was not cutting the grass as fast, gave it time to get out of the mower and not clog up the side discharge opening. After that it only stalled 1time and I was able to get the yard cut!

Glad you like the shot Curt.

 Well, time to call Dave!

Evening All,

Just got done ironing my uniform shirts. Today I painted the table top, mounted 2 shelves for power and control box, weathered  and Decaled the TT bridge (photos below). I ran into a small issue with power hookup today. When I tested the 2 small transformers I have the LL one  put out 16 VAC, but the Bachmann puts out  20 VAC. The power range needs to be 12-18 VAC. I tried adjusting the throttle on the Bachmann but it remained 20 VAC no matter what speed it was set at. Jon at the LHS has one installed so I figure to drive up there tomorrow to see what he recommends to do/use.

Ken- Love that picture. I have always enjoyed pictures of rail.

Jeff- I saw something similar on YouTube awhile ago. I think the show was Top Gear (BBC). It was a New model Land Cruiser vs. a Challenger Tank. The car had to get to the other side of the training course before the tank could lock on with it's main gun for it to win. The car lost, but did surprisingly well overall.

Everyone have a good night. Prayers for those in need.

Vincent Be careful when it comes to Stewart's F units.Ones with the Bueller's (think that it the spelling) are pretty much junk. Reason I know is I bought 2 sets of them. Jeffery now has both of them.  I have heard great things about the ones that have Kato drives in them.

Indeed. They certainly are junk. I put a PPW motor in one and an Athearn blue box motor and Athearn trucks (after much surgery) in the other. The trucks that came with it had broken gears. Not cracked, broken. They now run on my layout as F3A #500A and F3B #500B. The A unit has the Stewart shell, Athearn bb level of detail. The B unit has a Proto 2000 shell. I removed some of the detail from the B unit shell so it blends in more with the A unit.

 Afternoon Folks

 Flo, beer pleases.

Well, pretty much have done nothing today. Did make the trash run and went to the grocers (did I spell that right) and bought some meat. Few days ago I gave Sue $120.00 to pick up her med's and buy food. Funny how the ice box looked the same inside when I got home? Whistling Bet she used some of the money make the Patio Set Payment.

If I start feeling better, I might hit the back jungle. Either that or stop looking at it.

Work Front Hum, it seems Dave called! Whistling while I was out and about. Wonder what he wanted? Whistling Would not not surprise me if he wanted me to come in and close. I do feel bad for him, to a point. I have worked 11 days in a row! I am not doing 12 +. I will call back after a few more Beer. I will work, 10 to 14 hour days to help out. But I am done with working 8 plus days straight.

Vincent Be careful when it comes to Stewart's F units.Ones with the Bueller's (think that it the spelling) are pretty much junk. Reason I know is I bought 2 sets of them. Jeffery now has both of them.  I have heard great things about the ones that have Kato drives in them.

 See you later, Ken

I was just watching Richard Hammond's Crash Course as I enjoyed some fish, okra and hush puppies from Captain D's. This time around he was driving an M1 A1A2 Abram's tank. The tank commander had him drive it out onto an obstacle course where he was ordered to run over three classic cars. A 1979 Porsche 280, a 1970 Chevy Chevelle and a 1968 Ford Mustang. He was on the point of panic about each one but was told if he didn't run over them he would WALKING back. So the three cars got crushed. Afterward the commander let him off the hook. All three cars were junkers brought from a junk yard. You just see the relief washing over him. He wouldn't have to face the wrath of fellow car guys. Being a former car guy myself I had been supplementing my dinner with a steady diet of fingernail. Seeing that big tank rolling over those cars just sent chills racing up my spine.

Afternoon guys.

Just brushing up for my final tonight. After this, just 1 more semester and I'll be done.

Garry, I've read about using the stewart shell on the athearn drive and it seem relatively easy. The thing I've read was that just enlarging the mounting hole was enough. IIRC, a friend of mine has done it before. It's just getting them to close couple and have working diapragms may be tricky. As for strating with stewarts,  I'm watching a few stewarts on ebay just to see what they go for. I thought that it would cost a bunch to go all stewarts, but that might not be the case. The only issue is that the stewarts on ebay mostly seem to be mostly early F3s, and I can't tell if BN's early F3s had DBs or not (hard to see the vents from the pictures. I suppose a look into the GN and NP records may reveal something useful. Do you know if 91% alcohol work to strip stewarts?

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Jeffrey:  You should try to get some sort of phone off-hook indicator for your mother.  Years ago I bought three of them (real cheap, about $5.95) and put them on the phones in the den and the two in the basement.  I got them not so much as an off-hook indicator, although they certainly do that job, but so that I could tell when my wife was using the phone in another part of the house where I couldn't hear her so that I wouldn't try to use the phone at the same time.  I don't think they are available any more.  They were put out by Verizon, the telephone company, but their web site doesn't show the devices.  You could do a Google search on "telephone off hook indicators" but almost everything there is circuit diagrams for making your own.  They're not hard to make if you're comfortable with electronics.  Also try stores that sell telephone accessories.

Back when my parents had their service with AT&T it was simple to tell when a phone was off the hook. They would be a disconnect signal come over the line, a fast load beeping and let me tell you, that made the devils own noise! If you couldn't hear it you were dead. It could be heard all the way at the other end of the house and they have a BIG house. The dropped AT&T a while back and went with Suddenlink. Suddenlink doesn't have the off hook signal so nobody knows the phone is off the hook unless they look.

Well,

I never told the Dr. off..as he wants to try another med to prvent migraines. I have some emds that MAY or MAY NOT work at curing one in progress, but if we can prevent them that would be better! SO I will give him one mroe chance. His nice med student took a whoe history of my migraines, which is more than he ever did..maybe he will read it and digest it well, but I doubt it.

Now that I have shopped and doctored, My back is telling me its time to quit..as I can barely move. I went down the mailbox and about couldn't make it back to the house...shoulda made MOH go instead! Took some pain killers but I doubt that will help.

DInner will be sausage and onions and peppers

Dang, it is afternoon all ready?

 Well afternoon fellow dinners.

Flo Diet Dew if you would please.

This day is not going as I hoped. Pretty much wiped out. Only thing I have done so far is sew up a big hole in my sweat pants.

Gave the old Y6 b a work out. Had it pulling 49 50 foot box cars. Guessing the train was around 30 feet long. Breaking the train in to and going to park the Y6 for awhile on a spur.

Gary Yep, I like my Monon engines. I would love to have some more. If I ever install a decoder in the Santa Fe Type engine I got from Jeffery, I think I will make it a Monon Steamer.

 2:00PM, time to get moving.

Coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please.

***Ray, that pic (however old) is adorable.

***Darren, cool video. That would be a fun trip to take.

Had to get up early to meet my tax guy. Long drive (for me) and all tuckered out now. Just not a morning person these days.

All the farmers in this and the surrounding valleys are baling hay or in some stage of the process. Perfect weather for that.

Have a good day all.

Ray:  Your granddaughter is a little cutie.  (Aren't they all at that age?)  I can still remember when our granddaughters were that age, but that was a while ago as they are 9 and almost 19 now.  Oh well, I've got the pictures.

Afternoon folks!

Chloe, I'll have a turkey club sandwich and a glass of iced tea for lunch.  Thank you Ma'am.

Granddaughter has  gone home.....  Did we ever have fun!  She learned how to run some trains.....

When I showed her how to do it, she looked at me and said, "Papa, that's too slow, make it go faster!"  I limited how fast she could run the loco by just keeping one finger next to the throttle to limit how far it could go.  She learned to slow the loco down to couple onto the cars, and then ran the train to the correct track.  I uncoupled the loco and then she went back and got more cars for the train.  When she tired of the timesaver, we got out Thomas and played with the set.  We finally, after some milk and crackers, went down cellar to see Grandpa's model railroad!  She is learning to be gentle with other peoples toys and was great all morning!  her Dad caught up with us while we were down cellar, and then we got a couple photos of her at the throttle on the timesaver.  Dad was amazed the she could run the train so well.  She is the same age as her sister was when she learned to run grandpa's trains.  Fun!

Dave and Garry, thanks for your comments.  I have been an adult (If I can really be called an adult...) leader in the BSA for close to 38 years, and have enjoyed my work with the organization very much.  Last night was no exception, and I'm sure I had more fun than anyone else who was here. Big Smile  I did get several "wow" comments from the adults who haven't seen the model railroad before.  Oh, the last person to walk out the door last night was one of the adults, who just wanted to put all the cars and the loco on the Timesaver back where they started.......... WinkWink

Caught another Mousie last night....  Manét and Blackie took up guarding positions near the stove right before I went to bed.  It was clear they could hear something I couldn't, so I reset the trap and put it under a box with a hole in it in the corner of the kitchen.  Put a gallon jug of water on the box so the cats couldn't get hurt.  An hour later they both came and jumped up on the bed...  Figured either one of them had a midnight snack, or the trap had got it.  Emptied the trap this morning.......

Think I am going to see about plugging one hole down cellar which may be where they are getting in and then do some "Yard W*rk"....

Later!

Garry - if you save my posts, you will have a description of a 8 or 10 day tour of Switzerland. Most of the train rides I will list are covered by the Swiss Rail Pass, only some of the rack railways we will travel require an extra fare or supplement. I´ll be able to work out some more details for you when you know your dates and time.

Curt - both is the answer. I have a few of my own pics posted, but I also use the web as a source. Actually, I traveled most of the routes shown here, but at pre-digital times Smile, Wink & Grin

I really enjoyed yesterday´s day out. We left quite early, so there were hardly any folks there when we arrived. I started to feel uncomfortable when the place filled up and by noon, all we  could do was head for the exit and leave. We did see what we came to see, so it was OK for Petra.

Blessings!

Morning Coffee on our Tour de Suisse
Posted by galaxy on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 9:10 AM

GOOD MORNING!!!

JUST seeing WHO was on their toes this morning to catch the error!!!

Got to see who is awake sometimes!!!

Jeffrey gets the Prize!!!

Well, now that that is over...

WEnt to Wally World. Bought two shirts among other things..but found out I havet hose same two shirts already in the closet! Summer wear tha I wasn't sure of if I had bought them already or not. Size 3XL doesn't show up often in Wally World {or they get sold out fast} so I bought them. HAve to take them back tomorrow..seems like another boo-boo I made this morning!

Then went grocery shopping. Spent $135 but could have been over $190 if  didn't have coupons! The store also had TRIPLE manufacturers coupons to help! 4 of those babies meant with a $1 off something I automatically got $3 off. so 4 of those form the SUnday paper meant $12 in those coupons alone! Then they take a competitors coupon for $8 off a $50 order {i was way over that} so $20 in coupons right off the bat wihtout much trying! Earned $0.50 cents of gas while I was at it..if you bought certain items from certain food companies you got an extra $0.10 cetns off. SO i did that game too on one set of items.

Well, I can go rest before free bread comes around and I have the neurologist today. I think this will be my last appt wiht him..he does me no good, has already referred me to whomever he will.. so I think I drop him. Thought about cancelling but I should go to tell him what I think...His bedside manner and liostening to the patient skills leave a lot to be desired also, and MOH is just waiting to tell him off! FOrtunately MOH is working, so....I hate telling Drs. off cuz you just never know when you might need them in the future!!!

Well, I go rest my back now...

Good morning. It's 72° and cloudy with a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms this morning and afternoon. The high is due to be 88°.

Today I'll see if I can get my parents yard cut before the rain hits. No other plans for today.

Howdy .... Good to see so many good people here yesterday and today!

Ulrich ... Thanks for moving the diner! ... Switzerland! Wow! ...  By any chance did you arrange for a complementary Rolex watch for each of the diners? ...... The pictures look wonderful so far. ..... Glad you and Petra went to the zoo. I bet Petra was very glad to get out with you. .. Wolves are interesting animals. There is a pair of red wolves at the Nature Station in Land-Between-The-Lakes here. Red wolves are nearly extinct.

Oz Jim ... I hope the pain will go away.

Galaxy ... Thanks for telling about May. Watch out for the Roman Goddess. I see Jeff was kidding you about the typing error.....

Lee .... Another train show? It's been a long time since I have been to one. I do get stuff on Ebay occasionally. The bridge incident made headlines.

Curt.... I hope your time at the funeral went okay. Funerals can actually be uplifting.

Barry .... I saw yesterday's post about your planning to run trains with company. Immediately, I thought about Mr. Murphy and the gremlins he brings to layouts when there are visitors. .... I read your post this morning, and sure enough, Mr Murphy was in action..... Cheer up, As soon as you have no visitors, the gremlins are gone.

Sue .... An alarm? What's that? ... You keep busy! Regards to Larry!

Todd (and others) ...... Pop Ups? ..... I call them Poop Ups.

Ray.... You are an outstanding person for working with the scouts. Reading your post was really inspiring. ... By the way, what is the R&GV?

Jerry .... Your I&S pictures are great! Keep on having a "good one". .. Where is Inch?

Ken .... I like your Monon F3.  Sounds like work continues to be better without what's-his-name.

Vincent...... Regarding F-units, I think it could be challenging to put a Stewart shell on an Athearn drive. Stewart drives are very good. .... Your picture of the tank on flat car in "Show me" thread reminds me of a train I saw leaving Fort Campbell in 2003 with military vehicles and equipment. It was a very long train on its way to a port with equipment for Iraq War.

Rob ... Sorry you still have insomnia. Best thing to do is keep seeing your doctor until it is solved. Also, I have learned a small, regular dose of ibuprofen can relax a person just enough to fall asleep.

Jeff ... I hope your knee gets better fast. Sounds like your First Generation diesels are busy lately.

Bill T .... I like those photos you are posting.

Seamonster Bob .... High fuel taxes, eh.

Dennis .... Good to see you.

Flp .... Connecticut .... Yes, I think Florida is a better choice if you don'y like winter weather in the North.

Darren ... Good to see you here.

Has anyone seen Bama lately? .... JR? Der John? ... Paul? Duke? Dick? ....

Happy Model Railroading!

Error!! Error!! Today is May 2nd.

I think Galaxy's clock is running a bit slow........

Zoe I'll have a short stck of buttermilk pancakes with real maple syrup, side order of bacon, and lots of dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR Mug to wke me up today.

Got up a bit early as my son has a dentist appointment this morning and I get to watch #2 Granddaughter for an hour or so.  I will see if she is big enough to start learning to use the Digitrax Zephyr since the Timesaver is still set up in the dining room......  If not we will migrate to Thomas!

I see the Weather Channel has once again downgraded their website to be more Dumbphone friendly....  Currently 53°F on its way up to 71° later today under cloudy skies.  Showers this afternoon.

Morning All,

Today I am doing my laundry and going to vacuum the floor. After that I going to finish up the prep work on the extension. I was originally going  to power the TT directly off the DCC Power Buss, but since it is 11 VAC that is not enough power (instructions say 12-16 VAC). I was looking for AC power supplies but realized I have 2 DC power packs collecting dust rated in the desired range. Based on this the new plan is to run wires (4) from both power pack AC connections to the TT controller. I will check the VAC output later with a meter to verify this before I hookup to the TT controller.

Lee- I'm glad those idiots (putting it nicely) were caught before they hurt someone. It does make me wonder how many of these type off things are stopped every year.

Ulrich- Thanks again for the great tour. Do you use your pictures or are they from other sources?

Hope everyone has a great day and prayers for all in need.

Good morning, Chloe.  Coffee, please.  I slept past my alarm this morning.  Write that one down for the record books.  I seldom sleep that long.

After work, I climb tonight. Push. Push. Push.  That would be me.
