Afternoon guys

Been busy with some errands, but I did manage to make a stop to pick up some .06 styrene. I could work on the lights in my Gp38s but I'm kinda tired. I'll try them tomorrow.

 I wonder if the site installed the Beer thing just for me? Big Smile

 It has been a pretty much do nothing day today and I needed it. Went to the bank for some free pens, I like there's and so do my customers? Got rid of the trash and took Sue to the store. Shop and Save had there buy $50.00 and get $10.00 off special. Could not pass that up. Was going to go to my LHS but I blew that off.

 Jeffery Tired the ATF on the Athearn RTR Dash 9. I have only ran it maybe 60 to 80 feet it does seem quieter. I will give it more run time later tonight and see if it stays quite.

 Used another Jeffery Tip. My other Dash 9 that was picking a turnout. I checked the front trucks wheel's gauge and they where right on the money. So I pulled the center set of wheels and will see if the picking will stop. Jeffery you would love this engine! Train Line shell and Chassis, Athearn Trucks and Mashima motor.

 

 All it needs is a L&M Pasted on the side! Smile, Wink & Grin

 Decide to blow off the job interview. More I think about it, the bigger waste of time it seems. Biggest thing that bugged me was when I was asked if I could start Tuesday? If they had read my resume they would have seen I was working.

HI Gang. Yep, finally met Curt. After a very shakey getting to know one another on the net. We now have a good relationship. This may sound like a mutual admiration post, but Curt is every bit a gentleman. We had a to short get together but I did want to get back to Deb and Curt had things to do. His postings of his skills is awesome .

I think the ex-BN E-unit would be more in jeff's taste. IIRC, BN rebuilt them with a single engine producing the same power as the 2 567s. They also had a big muffler on the roof and a bunch of changes one would expect from jeffery.

 Jeffery, if you are talking about the radius it will handle, it would be fine.  With it be a Train Line Dash 9, it is about a inch shorter than a Athearn.

 If it starts picking again, it might wind up in your mailbox! Whistling

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a decaf for me.....

Sunny and hot outside today.  I got about 1/3 of the sport garlic removed today... It seems to get worse every year, so this year i am removing every little clove I can find.  Takes a bit of time.  The garden is also as hard as concrete at the moment.  Need rain bad!  None is forecast for the next several days.  If I get the rest of the garlic dug up and then weed whack the grass and other weeds in there, it will be ready to use the rototiller.  Only nice thing is without any moisture the weeds and grass will be dead within a couple days, then I can till it again and start planting next week.  Way behind on some of this stuff!

Ken!!!  Great photo of the tunnel!  Where was it taken?

Barry & Vincent...  I like the cars.

Time for me to call it a day as well.  Prayers for all in need!

Good Morning Gang!

A wonderful day again - lotsa sunshine, not too hot, very comfortable. In fact, it is too dry for the month.

I woke up fairly early (4 am) by the "concerto grosso" the birds perform. If my ears weren´t deceiving me, I spotted a nightingale!

Folks, what´s wrong with me? Why do all my job applications fail? My CV is state of the art, my references are top-notch, my cover letters are "appealing", yet in 98% of all my applications, I don´t even get an answer. Something must be wrong with me. It just cannot be age and level of qualification. I don´t know, I am really at the end of my wits.

Yesterday´s news about my application having failed again really is pulling me down. I am sorry I am putting another burden on Petra´s shoulders with my low mood. the more I try to see that light at the end of the tunnel or the silver lining on the horizon, the worse it gets. I do want this year to be the year of change, but, please, for the better and not for the worse.

My body starts to act up on me again, this time it is my left arm, that refuses to obey my commands. Each move hurts so much, that tears are running down my cheeks. I am on Diclofenac, but it does not really help.

Oh boy - where will this end?

Not a happy camper today.

Ulrich:  I don't know why some CV's work and others don't even attract a mosquito but it seems the phrase..."overqualified" crops up a lot....makes me think that consultantship may end up being the way to go somehow....Whistling

Barry - consultancy is about the worst business to be in. There are more than a quarter million highly qualified consultants in the market, who live off the fact that their wives still hold jobs. I do participate in a number of business networks specializing on consultant jobs, but they ae nearly dead for the 3rd consecutive year.

I know what´s wrong with me, I am too old, too qualified for the German job market. Only cheap and inexperienced people have a good chance to get hired, at least on a temp basis, as the jobs are being down-graded all the time in order to save money.

Guess why I had plans to leave Germany...

Ulrich- Unfortunately we are seeing the same trend here. Money is always the excuse but I honestly believe a lot of business just pay lip service to taking care of their employees because they can get away with it. It always amazes me that business expects loyalty from their workers but feel they don't have any towards the workers......Sorry Vinnie, I'll stop.

Ulrich- I wish I had some magic words that would ease your pain and disappointment but unfortunately I don’t. I know it’s starting to sound like a broken record, but hang in there and don’t let em get the best of you. Maybe, when applying for a job you should gear your resume to the job and keep the info sorta in line with and at the level of the job advertised.

I heard a comment made by my old boss seeeeveral years back. When he wouldl hire someone, he would discuss the prospect with us. After all he said, we have to w**k with him. This was wrong I know especially for the Fed Gov, but it’s not like he handed out the SSN. He auctioned that off for the coffee fundYes. Anyway, one person, who he did hire, he was worried about because he had a degree in some area of the medical field ( nothing major though I can’t recall what it was) and was taking business classes. He was applying for a mechanics position. The Boss made this statement and I paraphrase, “What concerns me is his education. I don’t want to hire this guy, then have him leave in a couple years for something else.” Maybe that is what these employers are concerned about as well. Hire Someone and a better offer comes along and poof they are gone. Businesses don’t really like the hassle of hiring people. They’d like to hire and be done with it for a long time. So again Ulrich, maybe the resume reads to them as if the job is beneath you and if a more your level job comes along you’ll be gone. I mean, anybody would leave McDonald’s for Wendy’s if they offered more money, I don’t mean that. But they would be less likely to be actively pursuing one. But if you are over qualified as they say, they may feel you’ll be w**king there while looking for a job more in lines with you qualifications and abilities at the same time and you will be more than likely or, in their eyes, a definite leave. Just a thought.

Welp, Floor Wars Williamsville Phase: .....Confused....Oh who cares has begun. I bought the flooring from Menard’s yesterday and it is sitting in the living room stabilizing. This is the floor in the office then all that will be left is the Master Bathroom.

It's currently 50F and windy and they say we will get up to our season norm on low 70's later today.  Weekend forecast looks good but will be working on the Honey Do task list for most of it. Sigh

 Ray The tunnel is at the St Louis Museum of Transportation. Tunnel it self was around 500 feet long. I have forgot most of the details, it been 4 to 5 years now. Did you notices the old Steam Engine in the tunnel?

 Ulrich I am with Todd on the resume. I would leave out the CEO, or was it CFO part. Just say you where in charge of something like shipping, or transportation or what ever. Not that you where in charge of the company. While you are bending the truth somewhat its not a complete lie.

 I go in today at 3:00 so I will stop by later.

I've already been out in the garden removing the garlic....  there is a lot of it out there this year....  I also managed to dig up a bunny rabbit nest! Sad  Two little baby bunnies in the nest.  They both crawled away, but i don't think they will survive long.  I probably severely injured them.  One is already dead I think.  I'll check when I get back out there late afternoon and dispose of the corpses.  As much as I don't want them around the garden, I hate to injure or kill anything.  I hope to have the garlic out of the garden by tonight.

Ulrich, Todd is right about the "Overqualified" thing.  Employers don't want to hire someone only to have them leave after a few weeks on the job.  Make sure that you communicate your willingness to stay in whatever position they would give you for a good period of time.

Ken, that is what is in the tunnel....!  Not much to see that says it is a loco anymore.  I was trying my best to figure out what kind of RR car it was, and what it was used for.

Already 78°F outside this morning.  Going up to the mid 80's this afternoon.

I just stopped in to hydrate a bit, so I am not heading out to mow a bit of the lawn....

***Garry, neat old pic of that Aerotrain. Would love to see it fully restored and serving on excursion runs. Would still love to have a scale model of one in either N or HA, but cannot justify that kind of expense. Have enough trains, just need more time (and energy) to work with what I already have. Thanks for sharing the cool pic!

Farrier is coming out today to trim Tinytoons feet. Not much else going on here. Will chip away at farm stuff a little, until the heat drives me back inside to rest.

I'd like to add in about the job hunting, I do hear where people are coming from as it's not only tough to get a job in one's field, it's just tough period. As they laugh at you if you're under-qualified, and more and more laugh if you're over-qualified. If you're under-qualified, they just won't hire you period, if you're over-qualified, an employer, rightfully so, may not want you as you'll drop that job for the next one. It's one thing at a convenience store where they kind of expect that, but another when it's a job that requires a significant amount of on the job training and orientation. It's good for the company as a whole when all employees require the least amount of supervision and instruction as company resources are expended less and less on bringing everyone up to par kind of thing.

A recent gum infection, being treated now with penicillin,  has prompted my dentist to recommend getting my wisdom teeth removed, but after further research and discussion with family members who still have theirs in place, I'm looking at getting second opinions. Though quite honestly, it's freaking me out a fair bit, as for one I don't want to get teeth removed unnecessarily and not having health insurance, combined with being able to save little money these days makes it all the more a challenging item in my life right now. I called another dentist in the area and decided to see if they'll help me figure out a course of action for my teeth.

Good morning. It's 79° and partly cloudy. The high will 92°.

Today if I have no interruptions I'll be installing DCC decoders in the Athearn/Proto GP35 and the Rivarossi/Athearn U25C.

Yesterday I had intended to clean up the layout a bit after I mowed my parents yard. But I got invited to lunch afterward and my father is the insistent type. So I stayed and helped with the preparation of chili dogs. The way he makes them how could I resist. By the time I got home I didn't feel like doing anything. So the cleanup will have to be done today.

I haven't heard anymore from the bonehead who fancies himself the legal owner of the second loco in the F unit trio. I can't see why he'd want to. It's just something I built one piece at a time from a collection of junk parts, kinda like Johnny Cash's Cadillac. It doesn't even look as good as the one in the photo below.

I managed to get the lights in my 2 atlas GP38s to work without light leaks. But then when I put the shell back on the last one, the decoder decided it wants to short out all the time. Never seen a decoder short itself out. I doubt it's in the wiring, but I can't run it in DC because it was one of those board decoders. Looks like I have a 5th decoder to send to NCE for replacement...

If it's like the NCE decoder that's in my Athearn KCS SW1500 I can see how. The one I have has no covering on it so ANY contact with any metallic surface would be more than enough.

Jeff, it's one of those Atlas light-board replacement types. I don't think any manufactuer has shielding on them because they are supposed to clip to the motor mounts in atlas locos. I think I got it though. I moved the motor pick-up tabs a bit and it works fine now. I didn't bother putting LEDs in the rear because I always run stuff in pairs or groups with the two outer engines front out (so the lead and tail engines in a consist are back to back).

I'll see if a friend of mine can speed-match those 2 GP38s to my GP38-2 and GP15-1. Lots of youtube videos show these types grouped together, occasionally with other early geeps and the rebuilt ones.
