Hi Folks,

yes, I am still visiting the forum, as I am still a moderator. I give the forums a run-down each morning and also check on what´s going on with my friends in the Diner.

Keeping my chin up eats a lot of energy and I find more and more difficult to find it. Haven´t left home for quite a long time now. Petra does all the shopping these days. The trip to the mailbox has turned into a nightmare for me. It is just outside the door...

Prayers to those in need!

Good Morning Modlers!

It's 59F and clear heading for a record breaking heat in the low 90's; yesterday we just missed breaking the record high.

News on the Bunny front.  We now have seen two babies but the neighbors got serious and have so far trapped the mother and one of the babies last night.  They hope they can catch the other baby today and the drop off the whole family down at the park along the canal.

Good morning. It's 78° and partly cloudy. The high will be 92°.

First order of business today was to pick up a MKT tank car and three LS&W hoppers from the SW spur in Sundown then cut out four tank cars and spot them on the spur. Then a change of motive power from the GP38 and SD27J to the F7A/F3B/F3B. Later I'll run the Trainmaster and U30EM645 to check that the electrical repairs made yesterday are what was needed. I also need to do a general cleanup on the work area.

 Morning Folks

 Flo, Coffee please.

Up late again as you can see from my posting. After I turned off the computer I played with the trains for another hour. Really starting to like my BLI Hudson again. It fell out of favor when I got my Y6. Have it pulling passenger cars and it looks good doing it.

 See you all later.

Afternoon All,

I go into w**k at 4 PM today. I vacuumed earlier and finished the farm pond today. I will post some pictures tomorrow. I guess the last project I have is when I receive the new Cornerstone Pennsy Tower the end of  June I will  replace the one that is on the extension now, other than that the layout is completeCrying.

Tomorrow I'm going to start researching car cards and waybills. I want to use this format for ops but have been putting it off while working on the layout. If anyone has any  suggestions I would appreciate them.

Everyone take care and prayers for those in need.

Afternoon people!

Flo, a nice cool glass of iced tea would hit the spot at the moment.  What?  Oh, unsweetened please....

Ken, nice interior shots of the cars.  Good luck with the resumes!  It would be nioce for you to find something that would allow your blood pressure to stay a bit lower....

Speaking of cabooses.....  Well one of Ken's photos is!  Here is what I was part of last Sunday!  I'm even in a couple of the photos....  Ah, the old guy in the yellow shirt with the beard....  (as if you didn't know, and no comments about his rotundness!!)  http://www.flickr.com//photos/rgvrrm/sets/72157629823483402/show/

Took about an hour for the tree to disappear!  Got one last shot of her before she perished.....

Going....

Going.....

Gone!

Afternoon guys

Work was busy, again. I spent a little time before and after work getting the window insert into the atlas cab on my GP5 project. I had 2 of these inserts, but I wound up taking too much off of the first one.

I found out that using the atlas cab with the Smokey Valley handrails actually works pretty well because I don't have to drill anything for the handrails. I may try another chop-nose later, since I have 3 more P2K GPs that need rebuilding.

Ray, I liked the tree but the yard does look better without it. Why'd you get rid of it?

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Ray

I'm glad to hear that your roofer included the ice guards in the package. When I didn't see them I was a little concerned about his knowledge of metal roofing. Obviously my concerns were misguided.

I am faced with redoing my roof in the next year or two. Metal roofing is not common in south-central Ontario so anyone who is doing it is paying rediculous prices. I can redo my roof with asphalt shingles three times for the price of one metal roof, and apparently the metal roof doesn't add significantly to the value of real estate in our area.

Evenin' Folks!

Janie, a nice soothing cup of decaf would suit me just fine right now.

Just arrived home from a Troop 1 meeting.  They needed my laptop and projector to do the annual "Youth Protection Training" with the troop.  The Boy Scouts have expanded the training to include internet safety and how to handle bullying.  Good program!

Dave, Oh yes around this area the snow guards are very necessary.  Here are the ones on the roof, you'll see why you didn't notice them....

They aren't easily noticed unless you are looking for them.  In this area, a lot of folks are now going with the new steel roofing.  Since it is guaranteed for 50 years and usually will last 80 or more years before it has to be replaced it can outlast 3 asphalt based roofs.  And there are many different qualities of the asphalt as well and people need to know what they are getting!  Those that tell me how cheap they got their roof done don't have more than a 10 to 15 year guarantee and it won't last much longer.....  Most Solar panel installers will tell you right out you are better getting a metal roof the first time as the solar panels last 40 or more years, and it is expensive to remove them to put a new roof on and then reinstall them!  Metal here was about 40% more than a 25 year asphalt roof.

Still have some stuff to get done, so I'll catch you all later!

73

My lawn does look funny at the moment as I expect to see the old Blue Spruce out there.  I will next spring put in some major landscaping elements....

Time for me to call it a night. I got several positive comments on my video, one on my forum and the rest on Photobucket. Didn't get a chance today to run the Trainmaster and the U30EM645. Maybe tomorrow. See y'all tomorrow.

 Howdy Folks

Thank you Dear for the Beer Flo is a gem!

Checked the banking account and there was more in there than I hoped. All so worked on a budget based on what I am making. I came to the conclusion that if we do the following I can make the house payment.

 1 Stop drinking Beer

 2 Stop Smoking

3 Get rid on the cable and internet

 4 No Car insurances

5 Sleep in the parking lot at work at night

 6 Stop eating

7 No lights on after 7:00 PM

 8 No A/C

Simple. Glad I thought of it! Big Smile

Ray How do metal roofs hold up to Hail? Far as the pictures, they are from the ST Louis Transpiration Museum. Like to get back out there this year, with out the wife.

Work Front, I Got A Bonus! Yep, got to work and there is another Manger In Training I get to Train! Yeah! Soon as I showed up, Dave vanished into his hole.

I am amazed with it being slow, how 2 new people that have no real clue can take the work load of one person (that being me) and make it a cluster, well, fill in your own word there! Whistling When I got there I was told by them how busy they where! Went thought the tickets and did what we called Red Pen Check Of. (should be done by a Manager, guess I am now to do it) and there was a whole 15 to 18 tickets! Laugh That is from 7:00 AM till 3:00 PM when I came in? Yep, they where swamped!

Oh, I get to go in early Wednesday. That will be day 7 in a row. Man I am beat all ready. Not the hours, just the days.

See you all later. I will be sitting here, sipping some beer!

Ken!

Stop drinking beer!?! I really hope it doesn't come to that. Sleep in the parking lot - yes. Drive without insurance - well, maybe. Stop eating - that might do me some good!

I figure that if I had never spent a cent on booze I would be living in a million dollar house with three Ferraries in the driveway! Oops Sorry Ken, make that three Cudas!

Seriously, I hope your resumes produce some good results.

1 Stop drinking Beer - did that a long time ago!

2 Stop Smoking - I am off for a week now!

3 Get rid on the cable and internet - the cable is long gone, I am on terrestrial digital broadcasting at no cost other than a special antenna.

4 No Car insurances - unfortunately, this is illegal here, so we have to give up the car.

5 Sleep in the parking lot at work at night - still an option, but I don´t have a job

6 Stop eating - always a good idea, both Petra and I are reducing our food intake

7 No lights on after 7:00 PM - in our neck of the woods, it stays bright until 10.30 pm now. In winter time, this is 3.30 pm Zzz Sun rises at 3.30 am, resp. 9 am in Winter. Who needs lights - candles are a lot more romantic, especially for the nightlySmile, Wink & Grin trip to the bathroom ...

 8 No A/C - What´s A/C? Pull the shades!

Have a good day!

Morning guys

Last night I did a bit more work on the GP5 build:

Before I did this, someone on another forum noticd the windshield was too low. So now I believe it's corrected. Here's a link to the unit that I'm turning the collection of parts into:
http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/Locopicture.aspx?id=44549

I talked to my CNW friend about trading for the FGE box, and he said he didn't like that it looked like it was molded in color. He did say he liked what I did with the GP5, but he's been adding in a piece of styrene for the split windshield into P2K Gp20 cabs the whole time. He also said that I pretty much have been stealing on some of my recent buys. He was very suprised on the Kato SD40 that I got for 45 bucks

Ken, I would recommend 1 and 2; I don't drink or smoke. 3 would be hard to do, 4 is illegal in florida. 5 is an option, but I think it's illegal in some states. 6 has to be done eventually. 7 you could use candles. 8, you could turn the A/C off when no one is home.

Good morning.  Coffee again, and maybe I'll splurge on a bagel.  New England is is having "spring," when it's dreary and drizzling day after day.  So far, though, the rain has been falling during the week and the sun has been out on weekends, which is fine with me and pretty good with the lawn, too.  I think I'm going to have a green lawn for the first time in 3 years.  The last two have been so hot and dry here that it just wouldn't grow.

I'm working on frogs.  Not the turnout kind, the ones that swim in ponds and catch flies with their tongues.  Penny has a couple of life-sized ceramic ones.  She took them to art class as drawing models last week, but the kids got a bit violent and broke off some of the feet.  She retrieved one leg and I glued it back on, but the others were nowhere to be found.  So, I'm making latex rubber molds of the remaining good feet, and then I'll re-mount the molds on the broken legs and pour Hydrocal replacements.  They'll be fragile, but hopefully I can restore them somewhat.  Paint-matching will be a challenge here.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and an order of biscuits and gravy please. Thanks

Sunny, with a high near 84.

Ray- Forgot to say I like your roof.  Shame about the tree too. Nice straight well formed…. Ah well, if ya gotta go, ya gotta go. By the way, your “rotundness” seems to be less noticeable these days.Yes

Jeff- I always enjoy your videos.

Welp, though Super Duper Evil Sister is still secretly (in her mind) taking things, and Evil Twin is still poised to go all legal on her, there is a new twist. When Granny died her will stated the house was to be left to her daughters and if there were no surviving at her death, it was to be given to the grandchildren...Grumpy I wish people would think of the mess that creates when you do stuff like that.  Pick one or sell the thing. Money you can spit, a house…..setup for disaster.  Anyway, when Granny passed, only MIL was alive, all other siblings had passed. House is MIL’s right? Right. Well not in their feeble greedy teeny tiny drug altered minds. They feel, get this, now that Aunt Betty is gone (MIL’s name), the house should be given to the grandchildren because that’s the way Grannies will read. Now mind you this house appraised last week at $30,000 with an expected high sell price of $25,000 but a realistic price of about $20,000 plus. Figure that one out. Wouldn’t that mean the house is worth about $20k??? Seems that way to me but what do I know.  After  estate bills etc, each one of the 10 I can think of off the top of my head…Confused..not worth it. One of the cousins has tried to explain to her sisters that when Granny passed and Aunt Betty was alive, the house went to her solely. They still think it should go to them.  Ah greed and a peanut for a brain. What a combo.Confused

More odds and ends today for me. I am however finally making noticeable progress outside.

Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Good morning, Chloe.  A large coffee in a NP mug, please.  I am still moving slow from the weekend.  At least this is a short week.  We have no plans for the weekend.  Maybe some wood cutting.

Ulrich,  Don't quit going to the mailbox because that will get even harder.  Thanks for being a moniter.

MrB,  What a horrible frog story.  Good luck on the feet.  Doesn't modeling give us some funny skills?

Good morning. It's 73° and partly cloudy. The high will be 92° and it'll be partly cloudy.

Got an email from a trouble maker. He claims that the first F3B in my F unit trio was stolen from him. It took him many hours to put together from all new parts. That's real funny considering I built it right here on the edge of my layout from a pile of parts from my junk box and a motor that I pulled out of another loco I picked up in a trade. Some of the parts are over thirty years old. He says he knows every piece in it yet he likely couldn't even tell me what type of motor it has or what company made the trucks. This guy is so full of crap. I treated his email accordingly by feeding it to the monster at the bottom of the SPAM file.

No plans for today. I may run some trains later. Running the two big Atlas units (Trainmaster and U30EM645) is at the top of the motive power roster.

Happy Hump Day Modelers!

It's 60F and Sunny heading for the seasonal mid 70's today.  As excepted, we broke the record high yesterday as we got into the low 90's which is about 20 degrees above normal for this time of year.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a raisin Bran muffin with lots of real butter and a cup (or 3) of dark roast Marrakesh Express coffee (yeah, the organic, fair traded stuff) this morning.

Thanks Todd!  (I'm referring to the less rotund...) It would have been a harder decision with the tree if it wasn't already in trouble...  I blew up one of the earlier photos, cropped it to show just the bottom 1/3rd of the tree, and you can see why the tree guy said.  I has to come down.

Lots of random dead branches.  It still looks funny to me when I look out the window now......

Ken, hail is not a good thing for any roof....  Biggest problem with hail with metal roofing of any kind has been denting.  With the newer steel roofs the problem can be paint chipping.  Most of the new finishes are as hard as the steel and do well with small hail.  Now if your talking baseball or softball sized hail?  Then your asphalt roof probably isn't going to fair particularly well either....  Doesn't hold up if the house was to be directly hit by a tornado either.... Whistling  Here is what Don Vandervort has to say about it: "Denting. Just as your car will dent if a golf ball hits it, a metal roof can dent if large hailstones fall on it. Aluminum and copper, much softer than steel, are more prone to denting. Some types are guaranteed not to dent, however."

Ulrich, I have a SIL who went through several years of what you are experiencing with the agoraphobia.  It took several years for her to be able to go out of her house.  Medications did help her get over the phobia.  She still has some places, like driving over a long bridge, that set her off.  She was the bone marrow donor for my wife when she had Leukemia (wife died of the cure....) and getting her over some long bridges to get the Cleveland Clinic to donate the Bone Marrow we thought might be a problem.  She would close her eyes and say, "Tell me when we are over it!"  Do go outside if even for a minute or two, and I do hope you are getting medication for it.  Still praying for better days for you my friend.  Do stay in touch here!

Mornin' Bill!

Mornin' Sue!

I have a long list of stuff I didn't get to yesterday THAT was supposed to done last Monday, so I best get moving!

Later!

 Morning Folks

 Flo, Coffee Please.

Dave I do hope to get some hits on the resumes. Funny thing when I am not working I get a lot of hits. When I am working not that many? Backwards from the way it should be. Far as having 3 Cuda's if I stopped drinking? No Way! With out beer I would have not been able to work on the rusted junk!

Jeffery You lost me on the trouble maker E Mail? Did he claim you stole the engine from him?

Ray I was just wondering if the metal roof would hold up better. I knew a large hail stone would make a dent. It is time for me to make a claim on my roof, it been through 4 major hail storms. I think I am the last person here that still has there original roof.

Ulrich Can not legal go with out car insurances here either. It is only $54.00 a month, yet $25.00 here $15.00 there all adds up. I will not be dropping it, not worth the chances. I work in the middle of Woman Talking On Cell Phone And Driving Heaven right now. It more of a question when will i get hit than will I get hit! Whistling

Later, Ken

Jeffery You lost me on the trouble maker E Mail? Did he claim you stole the engine from him?

That's what he claims. And it's an unsubstantiated claim. I built the darn thing right here using pieces from seven different locos, some over thirty years old. And he apparently doesn't want me to track him. When I tried back-tracking the email it came back to a deleted/dead account. I recognize that trick. Open an account, send out whatever to wherever and delete the account.

Did laundry today, now I need to iron my uniforms. Just can't seem to get  motivated about it. Going to the LHS (Jon's) tomorrow and Phil is supposed to meet me there. It will be great to be finally meeting him. Not much to say today.

Ken- Sorry to hear you are still having issues at work. Hopefully your resumes will work out for you.

Jeff- You have a new video? I guess I missed it. It really stinks what some jerks do.

Ulrich- Good to see you posting.

Everybody take care and prayers for those in need.

Curt: Here's the video link. Yep, it really surprises me what lengths some jerks will go to.
