Evening All,

I got everything done today I wanted to, and also put the roof on the Roundhouse, put up a couple of trees, along with weeds, and bushes. I think all I have left is to put some little people down and the extension will be complete.

John-Boy- Good advice but where's the fun in that?Whistling

Barry- Sorry to hear they want to do a consultation.I continue to say  prayers for you.

S.Lion- That is a neat old looking loco. Although it looks like a 2-8-0 it sure looks like th Bachmannn 2-6-0 they just recently released.

Everyone take care and prayers for those in need.

Afternoon guys

Just got back from work. The girl that kept staring at me was there, so I figured I'd start teasing a little. She started teasing me back. Around the 3rd time I caught her staring at me I said "do you want my number or something?" Boy did she light up. She asked me if I wanted to hang out (IDK if she was asking me out), then after we traded numbers she said I'll show you a good time" and winked. I have an idea idea of what she was getting at, but that might just be hormones talking... I'll call her in a couple of days.

Jeffrey, I have wondered if {and if not, why not} you do your laundry at your parents house, in betwen mowing the yard for instance...cause letting you do so would/could be the least they could do to help out for you helping Them out...

I do indeed do my laundry there. With all I do for them it's a small price to pay.

Barry, the dog and a bulb joke is funny, but kinda long. Did they update that one for CFLs?

Ray, I printed a scale ruler once. IDK if it was accurate though.

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Me again.

Boy, have I played pack mule today.

First it was the grocery store. Then it was the Mobile Food BAnk early this afternoon. They go to different areas to shell out food and other essentials during the summer months. Today they were in a nearby town.

Both MOH and I went. WE got bags of stuff! Never went before so didn't know what to expect. I took a huge "green bag" and MOH took smaller net bags we have from the dollar store. WE got salad greens: spinach, romaine hearts, iceberg mix, tomatoes, scallions; and we got some cracker boxes; some Pomegranate juices; some black pepper, some chilli pepper {canned}; some candy; some filter treated bottled water; some diet Pepsi 8 packs {I think for Canada}; cereal bars; cottage cheese {they tried to give us 3 each...we like it but not THAT much LOL}; mixed bag of spices; and some vegetarian beans {are there any other kinds? oh i guess as opposed to legumes Maybe?}and some Kleenex; soft handsoap, and more... we didn't take what we couldn't use...no reason to.

SOme kind sole who works with the pantry truck carried my big bag, so MOH didn't have to carry both loads. There was other stuff we didn't want, so we didn't take "one of each" or in some cases, multiples were allowed.  WE are needy, not greedy!

Whew!

Then it was free bread day at the neighbors..who always collect it from the grocery store on Wed. and distribute to the needy here in the park...that load was easy by comparison. I gave them some of the ginormous bags of lettuces and a few tomatoes, a juice jug and cottage cheese. I shared the bounty with them.

WE found out about a new once-a month food pantry at a nearby CHurch as well...they distribute on Sats. we will investigate.

Jeffrey, I have wondered if {and if not, why not} you do your laundry at your parents house, in betwen mowing the yard for instance...cause letting you do so would/could be the least they could do to help out for you helping Them out...

SInce there are so many recently asking for thouhgts/prayers/healing thoughts, I have lit a  prayer candle...Angel

Well dinner tonight will be surf n' turf. please form a line....

Afternoon Modelers!

It's in the low 80's here right now and the local news is once again filled with a new wild fire up near Fort Collins.  Hopefully they can keep this one contained in the valley where it is as not much for homes in that area but high winds could send it into more populated areas.  Got Day#2 and Day#3 of our Wichita trip now in my blog and here is a photo from Day #2.

Morning All,

I guess it's still morning. I slept in until 10 AM. In my defense I was exhausted when I got home from w**k this morning at 12:30 AM and the animals woke me up at 5:15 AM with scratching on MOH's closet doorGrumpy. I usually get up around 8 AM but not today. It's very overcast and dark outside so I am finding it hard to get motivated to do anything. Saying that, I need to do my laundry and vacuum the floor. I also want to put my diesels into the new engine area since I finished the ground cover yesterday and cleaned the rails afterwords.

Barry- That's pretty funny about the dogs.

Ulrich- Neat plane.

Phil- Prayers for Deb and you. I can feel your anxiety after going through it in January. I really hope this fixes the problems Deb has been having.

Talk to you all later. Prayers for those in  need.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have the Eggs Benedict and a cup of dark roast coffee this morning.  Thank you Ma'am!

I think (hope) I have everything done and pretty much packed to take to the Scholarship Dinner tonight.  All the printing has been done, laptop is packed, and camera is all set to take.  I'm sure I'll remember something I should have done within 5 minutes of arriving to set up.....

Currently 71°F here in the Finger Lakes, the high for the day.  Possibility of a few scattered thunderstorms later in the day.

Barry, love the Dog and Light Bulb one!

Lee, the ruler will magically appear when I have ordered and paid for a new one....  The rail will also appear just as soon as I open another package and cut the needed section from a full piece of rail....  Fetridges law!  Nothing ever happens unless it is no longer favorable for it to happen.

I best get moving as I am already an hour behind....

Later!

Sir Madog

Welcome to Zurich Airport! Please remain seated until the "Fasten Seat Belt" signs have turned off and the engines are shut off. We thank you for flying Swiss Air and wish you a pleasant stay in Zurich!

I flew through Zurich last month.

I had the good fortune to fly on this custom-paint-job plane, an RJ-100.  Fortunately, there were no sheep or billy goats inside the plane.

Morning Coffee in the diner
Posted by galaxy on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 9:03 AM

mornin'

Well, I went to the grocery store as I do every Wednesday. BUT, I had to call in my strong pain killers and forgot to take them. SO about 10 mins into shopping I was in agony. Then I remembered I had some in my bag of goodies I always carry, so I got a bottle of water and opened it to take them. aobut 10 minutes later I felt some relief, that quickly. I hate opening a package until I have paid for it, but I could have just left my cart right there and paid for the water and left to go sit down.

I got through the check out counter quickly as a front end supervisor opened just to take my order. Thank goodness for carry-out boys! MOH was home when I got home so carried everything in.

My back was already tweeked form the rain we had yesterday, adn adding shopping while NOT under the influence of muscle relaxer and pain killer added to the toll it was taking on my back.

Speaking of MOH, was asked to stay and work a bit after clockout time last Saturday, which then meant working 6.25 hours. FOr the extra .25 hours meant taking a .5 lunch break! which the dept manager didn't allow MOH to take. SO dept, manager got called on it and had to suspend MOH for todays work. See if one works over 6 hours here in NY they have to have a 1/2 hour unpaid lunch break and a paid 15 min break. We have caught on to tricky manuevers by management to catch and write up and suspend any employee for such by oftenly scheduling them for 6.5 on a day. THEn they fail to take or fail to be given a break and WHAMMO! tehy got ya. MOH is seething right now.

Well, I shall go rest my b ack in bed now. I have put off other errands until tomorrow.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and a stack of flapjacks with maple syrup please. No make that strawberry. No Blueberry. No, Blackberry. No wait! Boysenberry. Ya, that one. Thamks.

Funeral went well. Very nice. Only one of the two cousins in question showed up drunk. Both girls, women, no let’s just say they’re female. These two are sisters of four and the Black Sheep of the Black sheep. Now the family is worried she will cause problems by breaking in to MIL’s house and steal stuff. I asked why do they call you, your sister is the Executor and responsible to keep things protected. Didn’t really get an answer on that so I let it drop.

Barry- Funny light bulb stuff and I can testify to the accuracy of the Labrador’s response.Laugh

Flip- Tell Deb good luck and she is in my prayers.

Not much going on today for me othern the same odds and ends to get caught up and back on track. Brenda will of course go in to MIL’s house and they are gonna start boxing things up and going through things. Gonna be a weepy day for them.

Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Good Morning All,

Flip, thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery for Deb.

Ray, now you need to look for something completely unrelated and you’ll find the scale ruler and that section of track.

Tom, sorry to hear about your wife’s condition, I hope the Docs come up with a plan soon.

Monday I have a bone density scan, MFI, and an appt with Nuke Medicine

This weekend was too nice to work indoors.  I had started a water proofing project on the west side of the house.  To cover up the clay fill I dumped 10sqft of miracle grow garden soil and planted 4 flats of marigolds.  Monday AT$T installed U-verse at the house.  My internet speed went from 1.64Mbps to 11.56Mbps down. My bill will be $88 cheaper.  Went to the hospital for the first series of test and dropped off my 24-hour urine sample and two nurses drew 11 full vials of blood and 1 small vial.  I thought they were going to turn me upside down and smack my feet to get the last few drops, like a bottle of ketchup.

How Many Dogs Does it Take to Change a Light Bulb?

Australian Shepherd: Just one. While the rest herd the property for any more light bulbs or even light switches that need to be replaced.

Pit Bull: As long as I'm here, nobody can change ANYTHING. Not as long as I'm around. NO WAY.

Golden Retriever: It doesn't matter. Even if someone breaks in, I will find the flashlight for them and show off all of my toys and will play fetch nonstop. I still got lots of toys that squeak.

Rottweiler: Won't you-- MAKE ME!!!â¦..Just try it.

Labrador: Oh me, me!!!!! Huh? Huh? Pleeeeeeeeeze let me change it! Can I? Can I? You sure you only want me to change it? Too bad these bulbs float, or else I would even change the ones from way under the pool.

German Shepherd: Roger that. First of all, I need to see if that is truly a light bulb or a bomb. Second, I should check for any intruders still left in the premises. And third, see if they are still around, so I can sink these nice set of canines in that arm and keep on swinging from it. Not really. Any arm will do.

Maltese: Let the German Shepherd do it. Cocky ***. You can fix my hair. Yes. Of course piggy tail. What else?

Saint Bernard: Man, I still got the hangover from last night and you're worry about a stupid lamp. Look. I threw up a few times and can't even wipe my own slobber. Those ****es once they're in heat, REALLY know how to party and I got hammered.

Border Collie: Just one. And then I'll replace any wiring, check for any hazards, and let you know how long that light bulb will actually last.

Weiner Dog: Yeah right. You know that I can't reach that stupid bulb! Hello? Besides, those big scary dogs just love to floss their teeth with me. And with/without any light they always find me. I guess it's because I just can't shut up. Can I?

Siberian Husky: You mean just yank it out of that ceiling and take off with it for miles without even looking back?

Minature Pincher: Why? I can still bite ankles in the dark.

Jack Russell Terrier: Dude, I have cats to chase, rabbits to hunt, and make my owners catch me if you can game. Besides, I will pop it again with my constant bouncing around anyway.

Bassett Hound: Leave that thing off. I am so tired and sleepy and I love it when it's dark. Too much light hurts my eyes. Why do you think my eyes are so freaking red all the time? Noooooo. I told you a million times that I DO NOT smoke pot. Gosh!!!. I only slept fifteen hours today and you kept on bugging me. ZZZZZZzzzzzz.z.z.z..z..z..z.

Chow Chow: Nope, don't change that light bulb, don't brush me, don't bathe me, don't medicate me, and don't ever mistake me with a goofy bear.

Poodle: Oh come on. Give me a break. Who wants to mess up the hair for a stupid light bulb? What if the minute I even try to install it, it burns my fro. I mean come on. The fro is back in style and these curls don't just happen, you know. Did I tell you I just got my nails done at Poodle Nook Salon today?

Lhaso Apso: Why change it? I can still mark every corner of this house blindfolded.

Doberman: Let them break in. I always wait in that corner and never make a sound. By the time they notice me, my teeth will meet their crotch. Then we'll talk about who's really going to get neutered tonight. GRRRRRRRRR.

Beagle: Light bulb? I don't sniff any light bulbs? What's the point. I will pop it again with my long barks anyway.  Where's the becan?

Boxer: Come on dude. Listen to my name.. BOXER? Who needs to change a light bulb when I can just box and knock out the intruder. Once they grab me by the collar, then I'll show you my psycho dance, that is guaranteed to break those fingers.

Chihuahua: Yo quiero TACO BULB?

Pomeranian: Hey, I was a chow in my past life. So don't you dare make me do anything.

Bulldog: No way Jose! Last time I tried that crap, I landed flat on my nose.

Bichon Frisee: Let the bulldog or the pug do it. Cute dogs don't have to work. Besides, all they do is snore and snore alllllllllll night anyway.

Pointer: I see it. There it is. That one right? Yep I see it. There it is. Right there.. hmm.. although it is not moving. I wish they have light bulbs in the jungle. That way I could point out those squirrels even better.

Greyhound: I told you people that I only move off that couch for rabbits! Plain and simple.
Afghan Hound: Light bulb? What? Huh? I'm sorry, what is that? Back in mountains there are no light bulbs. Besides, everybody knows that I don't need a silly lightbulb to prove how gorgeous I really am.

Janie, just a decaf for me this evening.....

I think I am going crazy...  completely and utterly crazy.......  After completing all the printing for tomorrows Scholarship dinner, I ventured down cellar to the layout.  I finished fitting and installing the second half of a crossover that connects to a locomotive escape track that will also serve a dairy near the yard....  After making all the cuts and making sure everything was going to go together correctly, I glued the turnout in place, soldered a couple places as needed and moved on to putting the rail in place below the first turnout of the pair.  I got a 3' length of rail, did some quick measuring and cut it the proper length to go to the end of the yard.  The piece I needed was about 15" so I had the other section of the same rail which I would cut the piece from to complete the track later set aside.  Did the usual marking of exactly where each rail will go, put on the pliobond and set the rail in place, moved the railjoiner to join each rail, and proceeded to use my 25w soldering iron to heat treat the rail on the pliobond.  Then I soldered all the PC ties to rail.  I looked at my watch and I had plenty of time to finish the job so I went to grab the other piece of rail to get it ready....  GONE!  Nowhere in the rooms that the layout is in....  Gone, Disappeared, VANISHED!!!  I spent 45 minutes looking for it!  I even got on my hands and knees and crawled around the floor with a light trying to see where it went to....  It must be with the scale ruler I have been looking for!  Absolutely weird!

The roofer showed up just before dinner with the color chart I have been waiting for.  I spent some time walking around the house and checking the possibilities.  Finally decided on a couple colors I think will work with the color of the siding and the wood on the wall by the deck.  Later I heard my next door neighbor out mowing lawn.  Checked and it was the wife out mowing, so I went over and showed her the color chart, and she liked the same two colors I did.  Her favorite was the same one I was leaning towards.  The guy across the street was outside so I went over and asked him.  He also thought of the same color, his girlfriend picked the other one....  I do want to keep the neighborhood happy and not have them all hate whatever I choose you know.  So the choice for the new metal roof will be a color called Buckskin.  It is a dark Tan or light Brown color.  Should blend in nicely with the other roofs here.

I was surprised that each of the neighbors are also thinking of putting on Steel roofing.  And one is also looking at Solar Electric Panels on their roof as well.  She is a High School Science Teacher and very interested in Renewable energy just as I am.  I started the ball rolling to look into solar panels as well tonight.  NYSEG Solutions contracts with a company to do just that and I have them looking into costs and recommendations.  It will be about a year before I would be ready to have anything installed I think.  At least the roof will be ready for it.  I read that if Solar energy is something you are likely to add on your roof, the best way to go is Steel as it will last for 50 or more years.  Solar panels have a life expectancy today of 40 or more years, and if you put on an asphalt based roof with a life of 25 years....  You will have to pay to have the solar panels removed before the new roof goes on and then have to pay to have them all reinstalled.  The lifetime of the steel roof more than justifies the increased cost anyway.

Hope you all have a great night.  My prayers to all in need or pain!

Calling it a night early tonight. It's been a busy day for me. My van is legal for two more years. Also performed preventive maintenance on the GP9m Frankenlocos and the Frankenstein F unit trio. Hard to believe that big heavy trio is run through three tiny Z Scale decoders. They've had a lot of running lately so it was time for a light lube job. I also brought the GP38 and SD27J out for a run. See y'all tomorrow.

Good evening. ..... RBF, please.

I'm still behind reading posts ...

JimCG .... You were asking about a second visit for a layout tour. We'll have the red carpet out if you do that. Hopefully no big floods again. .... Any other regular diner is welcome also.

Ken .... I don't know the PM problem. I'll send you one to test.

Darren ... I like the old Santa Fe 4-6-2 picture you posted.

We had a big outdoor project in recent days .... replacing plugged storm drains with new ones. .. Rented a small track hoe made by Bobcat which weighs about 8,000 to 9,000 pounds. It is like a big Tonka toy.

Rob .... I thought of you and your "sports car" when I operated THAT thing although it was not the same machine.

Afternoon guys

Work went fairly smooth. Kinda slow at first but buisness was booming by mid day. I gave a ride home to one of the 2 few girls at work that I find attractive (I'm kind of picky, lol). We didn't really get along at first, but now we tease each other all the time.

Here's pics of some of the trains I was messing with yesterday.

Changed the trucks on my C425s.

Put an atlas SD24 cab on a P2K Geep. I had to modify a high-nose numberboard to fit into the cab numberboard. Still have some more cutting of the nose and the cab front (des plaines window insert) to get it right.

Jeff, is that the SD27J you made from the SD24 you got from me?

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Ken: Got some CRC 2-26? Spray some (doesn't take much) on the commutator (if you can get to it) and turn the motor about ten or twelve full revolutions by hand then put the current to it. The CRC should clean the oil out of the brushes. Bad thing about some can motors I've worked on is you can't get at the brushes easily. I've had it up to the hairline with Beuhler motors. They used to be really good but lately every one I've seen is crap. I haven't had any problems with Proto Power West motors.

CRC works great for contact cleaning. I used that as a Signal Maintainer on the contacts in crossing gates. It will also clean the oil off of everything else including places where you want oil so a person should be careful with how much used and where it goes.

Went to town this morning with $40 in my pocket. Used $20 at the Office of Motor Vehicles to renew the Firefighter license plate on my van for two more years. I may not work on the trucks anymore or help at fires but I still help out at the station with training when I can. Plus they didn't have the heart to pull my membership when I retired and let me keep my badge. I've been there so long that when the badge was issued the number on it was #3. We didn't even have a station back then, just a box full of papers and training manuals. The station was built in 95 I believe. That sounds about right as I'd recently purchased a Pontiac Sunbird. Well, enough on the past. After wrapping up my business at the OMV I went to the New Llano post office and spent $7 sending off a package. From there to the gas station to spen the remaining $13 on gas. A whole 3.439 gallons. That'll last about a week in the back and forth between here and the parents place. I received two nice looking coins in the mail today. They're just gold layered proofs. One is a 1854-S Double Eagle and the other is a 1933 Saint-Gaudens $20 commemorative. It's my introduction to the $100 million American Gold Classics collection. I don't know yet whether I want to keep them or send them back. I have two weeks to think about it.
