Zoe, I'll have a short stack of Buckwheat Pancakes with real Maple Syrup and a pot of dark roast coffee served to me in one of my R&GV RR Mugs.  Please and Thank You Ma'am!

It is a beautiful day outside here in the Finger Lakes.  Currently 57°F with high in the low 60's.  Lots of sunny skies and a light breeze.  I may decide to mow half of the lawn early this afternoon.

Vincent, you are right about the "Lost" items.  Except for those which only show up years later when you least expect them, of course. 

Love the plane photos and the bridge work.....

I need to get moving before I fall back asleep....

Good Mid-morning

Well I just woke up from a nap. I slept from 9pm to 6am (was still kind of tired), then I napped from about 9am to about 11am. I feel a lot better though.

Still no plans for today. I may wash my car, but I want to I look at the weather to see if it'll rain anytime soon. It's been off and on for the past two weeks.

I'd like to run some trains, but all the E-Z track I have contains no switches. The power-lock track has switches, but has steel rail. IDK how well the Atlas sectional track (no road bed) will work on the new hardwood floor upstairs (Will it sctrach polished solid oak?).

Jeff, Found another one of those connectors you were looking for. Do you still need them?

Ken, I favor small banks over the large ones. The large ones are more likely to do stuff like that, IMO.

Garry, shame that bridge was destroyed. I think it was a rather neat looking bridge.

Sadly news from the FIRE line is that the winds from last night and into today have spread the fire, now at 5,090 acres and growing.  One firefighter is listed is injured....

 Just had a 3 way call with Bank Of Stupid and the VA.

 VA Rep (Dan Allen) told me they could modified the loan any time they want, the VA would not stop them from doing this. Bank Of Stupid had been telling me the VA would not let them modified the loan till it was 60 days behind!

 Reason for this? If I am 60 days + behind, the VA will pay Bank Of Stupid to Modified my loan! Bang Head

 Well, I guess I will have to start the paper work to go into Forbearance again, yep let my self get behind. Sigh But this time I know if it is not approved I have to pay the 3 months when I am out of forbearance's.

 I am the Larry would love working for Bank Of Stupid!

Good Morning Modelers!

It's 63F and Sunny heading into high 70's and then the bottom should drop out and storms are heading in.

The latest major FIRE is nearly 1,000 acres and growing but so far is still staying away from the homes in the area but evacuation warnings are going out to get folks prepared.  Hopefully these new storms don't whip up the flames or start more but only time will tell...

Updated my blog again today with Day #4 of our 5 day mini vacation.  Lot's of RR stuff on this day including this Frisco Water Tank

Hi, Sue.  I've been around, just not on this thread.  I'm working on my carfloat terminal and the surrounding scenery.  I'm putting together an old waterfront  district, with cobblestone streets and street-running track.  I'm using Proto 87 girder rail for that.  It's a new process for me, and I'm having a hard time getting trouble-free trackwork even though it's nothing but a simple 18-inch radius curve so far.

We had a great vacation in Italy, flying through Zurich where we took the airplane pictures.  We had a nice train ride from Florence to Venice and back, too.

How's your layout coming along?

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

 Go to work today at Noon. While I don't dared it like I did when Larry was there, I still don't look forward to it either. Funny thing when I was not working, I hated not having some places to go? 

 Todd Apple Vinegar? Do you have a glass everyday? If you do, what did it do for you? I am willing to give it a try, just need to see if we have any.

  Gary Pretty much out of good layout pictures. Still have not been able to get my old HP photo suite loaded. Bang Head

  Electronic Cigarettes Wife is wanting to stop smoking and some of her friends have tried the electronic cigarettes and they have worked for them. I know I should quite, better for my health and would be cheaper than real ones! Only Problem? While I hate to say it, one of the reasons I don't want to quite, is the smoke keeps my wife out of the garage! Whistling I know that sounds mean, but here only so many up dates I can stand about Dancing With The Stars and American Idol!

 I might drop by before I leave for work. Need to see if I can find a local number for the VA that can help me with Bank Of Stupid!.

Garry, So that's where the E5's went? Are the cars on that bridge stopped traffic or construction worker's?

 

Vincent..... The bridge has been closed since a ship destroyed a 325' long span in January. Our neighbors were on another span of the bridge when the accident happened. This is the main highway running past our house, and for now there is very little traffic on it. .... After Amtrak took over passenger trains, the E5's were hauling freight trains. Traction motors were commonly burned out with heavy freight trains in Colorado. E5's were traded in for SD40's.

Jim, that's the same aircraft.  The tail number matches, although I don't have the last digit.  (Update - yes, I do.  It's under the wing.)  There were a lot of these lined up in Zurich, but this is the only one with a fun paint job.  As they drove us out to the plane on an airport bus, everyone was cheered up by our unexpected good fortune to be riding on this smile-inducing plane.  Where did you get your photo?

 

It is a very cool plane. I actually had a friend who is living in Germany travel to Zurich a few weeks ago and managed to take a shot of it, although they didn't manage to get on it.I was to see the image you had posted and remembered I had the image on my email.

The Avro RJ 100s are a lovely little plane to fly on, we have a very close derivative in AU the BAE-146.

Morning guys

Been hunting some out-of-production detail parts. I lost the auction on that C30-7 (would have been nice to have 3 BLI ones, it'd be fairly easy to speed match them) but a consit of BLI C30-7s and Atlas U30Cs looks pretty good. There are a pair of GP38s that I'll try to snag. There is the stewart BN F9 AB, but that costs almost twice what I want to pay. I really only need a powered and dummy chassis to have a full set.

Ray, Always fun to look for stuff that gets lost. Usually it's right there in the open and we totally miss it because it isn't hidden.

Chris:  Lol, point taken about Body substance Isolation (had to look it up). You are probaly right there, especially given she thought I was a minor (I'm 22) until I showed her my liscense. I checked hers and she just turned 21. I probably should check her "history" lest she turns into the last girl at work I had issues with (selling something only legal to sell in Nevada).

Sunrise made a low-headlight insert, but I can't find the part number or a source. I could repaint that SD40 into one that the BN purchased (which don't have a nose headlight), but that would require stripping a Kato (which is next to impossible)

Curt- Wow!!! The TT and  RH look great! Why I remember when that was just a vacant lot.

Ken- Try a teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar in a glass of water every day. Does wonders for all sorts of things. Give it a few days to start noticing.

Ended up not doing much yesterday after all.Bang Head Got wrapped up in a Ghost Hunters Marathon.Sigh

Today, I get to burn a pile of branches, and do some laundry and some vacuuming. I have found that running the vacuum with the hose and floor brush attachment is far superior to the recommended dust mop method. They who came up with that, obviously don’t have a Lab.

 Back to w**k tonight and I still haven’t got my office picked up. I need to do that so I can get this floor replaced. Then all that will be left will be the Master bath. The second bedroom and the Master bedroom are still getting carpet replaced.

I remember seeing ads for those Kato SD-40s in CB&Q red/gray, very nice looking units Thumbs UpThumbs Up THAT was one of the factors leading me to thinking about a proto-lance CB&Q branchline in SW Iowa rather than the Cedar cRapids Industrial Branch (proudly shipping yesterday's Crunch Berries tomorrow!). Sorry to hear they're foobies as-is, ain't THAT the way it always goes?Bang Head Putting in a nose light shouldn't be too tough. Heck, if I can carve up a nose to put in a CNW gong bell (thanks Plano for the brass template and mounting bracket!Thumbs Up), I think you can manage the light. Touching up the paint would be the biggest issue, since no factory paint ever matches what's in the bottlesSoapBox. THAT's a case where weathering is your friend!

Vincent ....  The SD40's were for Q's C&S line. I recall they E5's were used as trade-ins. Eventually BN had many SD40's, but in the late '60's CB&Q, NP, and GN were buying SD45's. .... Sounds like the young lady has eyes for you. Good for you. 

Today, a replacement span was lifted to its piers for the broken bridge near here. Next, pavement is to be installed. The investigation of the accident has not been completed yet. I suspect the ships insurance company will be paying for all repairs eventually. This is one of 2 long, old, narrow obsolete bridges near here. Both bridges will be completely replaced in the next few years.

Janie just a decaf, Yawn.......

Oh man am I pooped!  The evening went very well!  The band that entertained during the dinner had 3 of my old Middle School Students in it (4 total), all of which were great kids, BTW, and ones who all liked to hang around my room after school back in those days.  Two of them have turned out to amazing keyboard players.  I didn't know the 3 of them had become professional musicians until I saw the names of the people at the website.....  Cool!

Only hitch for the evening was that every year we honor a local teacher/educator for the work they have done over the years helping those kids who needed a little extra push in school.  This year it was my Pastors wife who was for many, many years the administrator for Head Start here in town.  She was very touched by the honor.  Only problem was that someone forgot to go down to the awards place and pick up the plaque for her to receive......  Guess who?  Yep, totally skipped my mind!  It is not one of the usual jobs I do for the dinner and I said I would pick it up in a passing conversation with the committee president a week ago and promptly forgot! 

I did get some time to play trains today though.  I finally gave up looking for the piece of rail I couldn't find last night, and cut a new piece form a full 3' section of rail.  Got it all installed in place, and walked over toward my workbench and there sitting right where I had left it siting by one of the yard tracks was the piece of rail i was trying to find!!! Confused

Packer, I guess we all knew why she was staring at you now! Wink Wink, Wink Wink

ZzzZzz..... I think I best call it a night!

Just got back from the first day of my last class and ate (I bought that SD40 at the school). I had a quesadila, a cheese burger, and some chicken wings. I was really hungry having not eaten since 5:15 this morning...

I researched the CB&Q SD40 and found out something I should have looked for before I bought it. The Q never had any. Their subsidy, the C&S did. But I would need a light in the nose. IDK about adding one to a painted unit, so I may end up painting it out into one of the ones the BN ordered. If I can get the lettering off...

I'm off work and school for the next 3 days. I'll probably list my Walther's LMX 8-40B for sale sometime in there. These were brand new at the very end of my era, so I think they would be kind of rare. Besides I could use the cash to fund other projects. It's good puller and runs nicely, but the detail is comprable to the late blue-boxes. As for Ashley (the staring girl) I'll probably call her friday to see what she's up to.

Ken, Jeff's description is a bit more detailed than mine.

Jeff, I have just one. It came off a Soundtraxx decoder, but the 9-pin plug is the same for all manufactuers (Athearn RTR locos take advantage of this). I'm going to order a Soundtraxx Tsunami in a few weeks and it'll probably have another one. I may have another one somewhere, but it'd have short wires.

Got some goodies in the mail today. A Stewart F3B shell, an LBF 52' ACF boxcar (UP 553190). It needs couplers. A 60' double door boxcar (Southern 9427). It's missing two stirrups and part of one end is busted out. Two Digitrax HO decoders. A DH120 and a DH123. Anybody have two DHWH 9 pin connectors they don't need?

 Jeffery How do you clean the brushes on a PK 1 motor with it being sealed? Just spray the cleaner on the shaft, spin it by hand then re oil the shaft and run it on DC? Or do you pry the end off and clean?

I bend back the tabs at the back of the motor and take the end off. The motor I worked on had the brushes attached to the end cap. I believe the brushes are a spring type that are kept apart by the shaft/commutator. It can be a little tricky to get back on. When the motor is open I spray a little CRC 2-26 on the commutator and let it sit for a bit. While it's sitting I pick up the end cap and spray a little on the brushes and set it aside. Now I wipe the CRC off the commutator then do the same with the brushes then but the motor back together. Be sure to crimp the tabs properly or the cap could be a little out of line and put undue stress stress on the shaft bearing. Hook the motor up and advance the throttle slowly from stop to full a couple of times then change direction and do it again. It'll be a little rocky at first but will smooth out.

Well I got another loco off of the bay. A Kato SD40 in CB&Q red for a whopping 45 bucks. Would have bought the BN one, but it went crazy expensive. I'll probably just patch it and run it with my Q SD24. There are a few BN GP38s and another C30-7 I'm watching. After that I'm done getting new locos for a while and will get decoders and parts.

Ken, Usually on a sealed can there are some metal tabs that can be bent outwards to release the end caps. That's the way the Buehler and the Kato motors I have are.

Did get the rear yard cut, moved the last plants out side, dumped the trash and went on a Beer run. Oh, I did get one engine off the RIP track, but added another one.Sigh If is official, my last PK 1 F3 Monon engine is dead. Bang Head It's the one I oiled.But I sure got the use out of them! Dollar for dollar one of the best engines I have bought.

Vincent- Actually that string of cars belongs to my Dad. He also has the WM 2-6-6-2 in stall 1 and the Pennsy 0-8-0 in stall 6. He keeps his HO stuff on my layout. He has a portable O scale setup at home.

Curt, I like what you've done with the roundhouse. Kind of intresting to see that modern Sargento boxcar though, but I like the las boxcar in the 2nd picture.

Afternoon guys

Just got back from work. The girl that kept staring at me was there, so I figured I'd start teasing a little. She started teasing me back. Around the 3rd time I caught her staring at me I said "do you want my number or something?" Boy did she light up. She asked me if I wanted to hang out (IDK if she was asking me out), then after we traded numbers she said I'll show you a good time" and winked. I have an idea idea of what she was getting at, but that might just be hormones talking... I'll call her in a couple of days.
