cudaken Jeffery Well you should have me beat on the number of engines now. I bet I have gave away 6 engines to Simon boy's alone. You know, I really need to dig around I bet i still have some U Boats I have not seen in years. Heck, I even have a pair of PK 2000 F 2's with a sound decoder that I have not messed with in 3 to 4 years. Hum 4-8-4 Niagara? I would not mind having one of them! There is a hint Jeffery.

Evening All,
Not much happening this way. Today I painted the roundhouse window frames, roof and exhaust stacks. The last thing to paint is the concrete floors which I will probably do tomorrow. I'm not sure if I will go to the club tomorrow or not because I feel pretty run down.
Jeff- That is a lot of Loco's and that 4-8-4 looks like a rusty piece of junk, Good job!
These are photos of the same train but opposite sides
Everyone have a good night.

Just a quick coffee, Chloe, and I will be headed for eastern Washington. We are down to only 3 ladies on this rock climbing trip. There were seven on the original trip. It should be in the low to mid 60's instead of 100 degrees. I will check in Monday.

Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
mmmmmm...now that I culled this one out...this is pretty close to where my one aunt lives now...a wonderful view...
Good Morning All,
A regular and the fruit bowl please Zoe, I'll be over here at the RC for a bit. Got the shop opened up and had the first client through already as we get ready for next weeks VSCCA finale at Lime Rock.
Sue - I'd love to climb rocks except I don't like heights and I'm not sure my gut would allow me to get close enough to hang on. I felt quite daring enough standing on the edge of the Grand Canyon and Angel Falls LOL.
Garry - I have been getting up late and getting into the shop after most of the guys are in. At that point I can't really linger as I need to make sure everyone is being productive and it sets a bad example if the boss is noodling away on personal stuff. I don't get back in at home as I haven't fixed or replaced my laptop and also haven't set up the home computer as there is too much stuff adjacent to the train room. I love the new layout pics you've shared.
Got back into the basement last night and ended up ripping out 4 feet of elevated road bed in the urban area of the layout. I have determined I want a hidden runaround and need to make a template and plywood platform to support the track through the back of the area so I can run hidden track below it. If I ever get set up so I can post pictures again it will all make sense (see above). This weekends' project is to install a water pressure regulator in the main feed for the house and fix the two toilets that have developed leaks past the flappers. Oh joy oh rapture. The good news is to do this I will need to tidy up the area where I have all my rolling stock stored which is also the area where I want to install a utility sink.
Curt - you've made a lot of progress of late. Your layout is looking really good also.
Jeff - that is quite an impressive roster you've developed. I was sorry to see elsewhere that you've developed a dislike for BLI stream engines. I have a few including an early Blueline Pennsy M1a and the two New Haven I-5's and must say they are the best steam power I own. I also have a couple of Bachman and IHC steam power but they have proven finicky given my level of track laying skill and didn't ever get much use. Generally I stick with the diesel era so when I did run steam I didn't want to spenda bunch of time fiddling instead of running and the BLI stuff did as I wished.
Ulrich - kudos for the excellent guided tour you're doing. The light rail you're showing is most impressive. I think some of our more conservative zoning folks would have a field day in some of the cities as I think the lines of the buildings are spoiled with the multicolored neon and backlit plastic signs. We have one adjacent town that only allows solid unlit signage and no street side billboards at all in the downtown district.
Well, (full and as saturated as the surrounding ground) back to the shop. We have gotten an original AC/AC in to care for along with another Lotus11 and we're moving along on some other projects plus catching up with the other cars we've run recently and need to reprep and get ready for storage as the season winds down. I'll stop in later for lunch, CUL, J.R.
Ulrich .... I wish I could spend an entire month actually touring Germany with you as tour guide.
Jeff ... That's quite a fleet! Your work on the GP chassis is remarkable with a smorgasbord of parts. It must be a fun project.
Curt .. I like your layout pictures.
I completed the track for my streetcars last night. Now, I have the two street cars chasing each other around the 50' of track comprising the loop. They will never catch each other because their speeds are matched perfectly. There is still much work remaining on the Union Station section, and then I will work onn the downtown section.
Happy Model Railroading!

Not a lot planed today, quick trip to the post offices and then to K-10 Model Train's. Thinking about taking the covered hopper back and exchanging for a decoder.
See you all a little later.

Good morning. It's 72° and sunny. The high will be 89° and it will be mostly cloudy with a 10% chance of rain.I won't be doing much today as I have some health issues causing me quite a bit of pain today. Nerve problems are so much fun. I've already cracked a loco shell today due to slipping control over my already very tight grip. Muscle spasms don't help so I'll be trying to keep my hands unoccupied for a while. No handling of eggs today!
Morning All,
I slept off and on until 10 AM today (really late for me), I still feel tired but my throat feels better and there is less congestion today. I think I will skip the club this week and just stay home. It has been raining all day and supposed to continue through Monday. I may paint the roundhouse floors today if I feel like it.
Ulrich- Thanks for your tour. I had forgot how beautiful Germany is.
Take care.
Gute schöner und sonniger Morgen, du!
Ich werde die Kekse und Soße zusammen mit meinem dunkle Röstung Kaffee, bitte. Dank!
It is another lovely day outside here in the Finger Lakes. Currently 67°F on its way up to 77° this afternoon. I did a dumb thing yesterday (Well, I often do dumb things...), I put the lawn mower away after doing about half the lawn, and never plugged it into the charger.... Guess I won't be mowing lawn again until late this afternoon. No different than I used to be with, "Oops! Gas can is empty.........." I have enough other things to do to keep me way too busy anyway. Lawn is very high again.
Called my son to see when He can come over and help me set the post today. He said he wasn't sure but he would be over later. Seems my granddaughter got sick right after I left yesterday. She told her Mom she was going to take a nap, got up a half hour later and was sick.... (Glad she waited until I was gone....) They think it is something going around her class at preschool.
Ulrich, I am loving the photos of Germany.... I really like the "old world" architecture!
Jeffrey, take care of yourself and get some rest! Hope the spasms go away soon.
best get doing some of today's list of things to get done!
Later!

Good Afternoon Folks,
I am glad your enjoying our tour in and around Karlsruhe. Right now, we are heading for Bad Herrenalb with a steam train, pulled by a class 58 2-10-0 of Prussian origin.
Upon arrival in Bad Herrenalb, we will have a transfer to our hotel, where a traditional dinner will be served.
It is "Zwiebelkuchen und Federweißer" - that´s onion tart and young wine. Bon appetite!
Tomorrow, our tour will take us to Freiburg and the central region of the Black Forest.
Of course, we will tour the city by streetcar - I am not much of a fan of bus tours
Following the city tour, we will take a train through the famous "Höllental" (Hell´s Valley) to enter the central Black Forest mountain region.
Our train ride ends at the shores of Lake "Titisee", where I have booked a very romantic place as our tour hotel.
CU tomorrow!
Ulrich, Thank you for your efforts on this months tour of Germany. What a beautiful country. I have a question I was hoping one of you could help me with? Like I told you before my computer skills are not very good. Any way I am trying to find some history on the the Northern Pacific railway company's (Como locomotive shops) They are in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The address is Energy park drive & Bandana blvd in Saint Paul, Minnesota. They were built in 1885. and that is about I have been able to find. I was hoping to find some old pictures and some stories about what they were like back in the good old days, Thanks for any help! I hope you all are doing well today!

Evening guys
Well, I ordered the battery for the electric start on the generator last week ...had to call the 1-800 number "for technical support" and ask about it as I could NOT find one around here, and the online listing for the generator and paperwork all say "battery not included" Available separately". BUT they don't tell you WHERE its "sold separately" and they DON'T sell such animals at the store!. Didn't think they could ship batteries, but apparently so. That is supposed to arrive FedEx tuesday.
I also today ordered the wheel and handle kit for the generator. Finally found IT online!
Boy, you would think Harbor Freight Tools would WANT to sell the "extras" as well as the Product without a bunch of rigamaroll. The extra for the battery at $73.00 and the $34.00 for the handle kit {tax and shipping included so allow for that} would have menat an extra sale of aobut $75-80 for the extras without the tax and shipping they coulda sold me IFF'N they had them at teh store.
Mind you they have the exact same generator on sale for $50.00 LESS than we paid for it durning the Great FLood of 2011....
Nice warm day, but pulled a muscle in my neck somehow and it led to a migraine headache..or the migraine just settled in anyway. Dunno.
gotta go tomorrow to Harbor Freight store and see IFF'N they got the "electric flyswatter" I think supposed to be onsale now. I get one for killing bugs and flies and one for the "eltrostatic grass spreader" or whatever it's called for MRRing...I will haveto lookup the "ways and means" to convert it to a grass spreader, but I think there is a current thread dealing just with that subject....
It is DANGEROUS FOR ME to go to a place like HArbor Freight. TOols are 'bright shiney objects" that tend to attract my attention. Not so much lately as with my back all messed up I don't DO to many "handyman projects" anymore. {now that we actually have a Harbor Freight tools store here}
Gotta clean up the porch and do something with teh leftover wood from various "handy man projects" I keep there where it is safe and dry. Tomorrow supposed to be beauteous day, so I think I do that. Aobut the last chance before winter. We have one slider door there adn want to add another, but that wood is there in the way...we want teh slider there so we can get the generator in/out of porch for safe keeping and handcuff it to one of the support beams bolted to the concrete floor.
Gotta do the porch before the injections in my back on Tuesday, and before monday night "put out the garbage" night. I will be in some agony withthe injections before it does me some good.
Well,
that about constitutes all the excitement in my life today for those who actually read anything I post.
Have a great evening
SLeep well
Galaxy: Now you got me to thinking about generators again..we do have one but it is rather small for what we have in here...so now we be looking..oh...don't I know about dangerous places..not only is HD and Lowes bad news..music stores are distracting places...even their websites!!
Ulrich: Thanks for all the wonderful tours you've been sharing with us...my picture folder has grown a tad..
Thayne: I'm wondering about checking out their historical society? http://www.nprha.org/...they may be able to help on that...
--------------------------------------------------------------
I am having issues with the little Spring..he won't let my mouse alone..come back here you little thief!! lol!!
Sunny was the name of the game here..it were all sunny and warm..they actually had a heat index of 90F here!
Have a few things to hunt up down in my lair....
Chloe. I'll have a real coffee please...Starbucks did me in today....
Afternoon folks
Flo, yep and keep them coming.
Well Today Started OK Felt pretty good and installed a decoder in a FT A unit I traded for. Engine Buzzes like a mad Wasp but runs good. Ran it for a while and oiled it, never got any quieter but what the heck, it runs so I am happy.
At around 11:30 AM I hit the road and made it to the post offices and got the package mailed off. I headed to K-10 Model Trains but I was a little early so I headed down to the Library to got 5 DVD's to watch. In hidden sight, this was a mistake.
Finally sick of messing with the old BB motors I was given so I ordered a new Athearn HP motor. It is to replaces the Cursed SD 50 motor. While I was there I picked up a extra decoder, want to get the PA going.
Got home, came out to the garage to leave the movies and decoder. I laid the DVD's on top of the engines I am working on and went into change. Came back out and the Rio Grand SD-50 was laying on the floor! At first the damage did not look bad, shell was intact. Rear truck was hanging lose. Should be easy fix.
When I started taking it apart I noticed the frame was bent some but not bad. Found the clip for the rear truck, but there was something odd. Seems the block that holds the brass worm gear was still in the clip along with the worm gear. Yep, part of the truck broke off!
Got the clip to hold on the rear truck, took the engine over to the track and dialed in its decoder number. Nothing, engine did not move. Installed the DC jumper chip and engine started moving. Would have never guessed a drop would mess up a decoder. Going to read it later with decoder pro, might not be remembering the cab number right.
Ran the engine and it sure seemed to be running slow. Pulled out the engine it was speed matched with, it out ran it hands down. Doing the same thing as the Cursed SP SD-50 except it did not hit the floor. Then just to finishes the day off, when I went to pick up the engine, rear truck was lose. Seems the rear clip came off, might be able to glue it but I am not holding my breath.
Well it could have been way worse. It was still not in services yet so it will not be missed. But at the same time, I would have rather watched TV than the DVD's with what happened.
See you later, Ken
Good Evening, Janie - I'll have a bowl of the beef stew please, and a Dr. Pepper (don't know the German for most of that...). Thanks!
Rob - (Belated) to you! - You have puppies? (I'm catching up a few pages back) Great Pyrenees puppies? Aren't those kinda BIG dogs when they're grown (if I'm remembering right)? Better start saving up for dog food...
Jeff, Ray and Ken (think I got the right people there) - I think I got one or two mails from that warranty scam company (think one was for the Chevy I haven't had for maybe a decade, or they might've just been 'lucky' in guessing THAT). Trashed it at the post office and didn't even bring that one home to pitch. I'll keep my eyes open for that radar ticket email.
Ulrich, your high score just shows what you've been saying before - that you already know all that stuff the Stalag was trying to teach you. (Did I even tell you that in my high school, I played a guard in the Stalag 17 play?) (Little trivia for you literary types there). Love all your photos you've been posting!
Barry - uh, folk metal?? Isn't that like, an oxymoron?
Galaxy, about those scam/phishing/rip-off calls, if I'm feeling REALLY irritated with them, I will start out by asking for their company name *first* off. THEN I explain to them that I am on this state (and the federal) "Do-Not-Call" list, and that I am going to report them for violating the same. The phone call kinda tapers away really quick after that. (Yeah, I have reported some to my state's attorney general...)
Sue, you were mowing in the trees? I'm having trouble trying to picture in my mind, how tall the legs on your mower must be to mow those trees... (To borrow/modify a Foghorn Leghorn saying, "That's a joke, Ah say, that's a joke, gal!")
Garry, from your pictures of the station area, I'd say you're doing FINE! (even if you do say you have some to do yet...)(Yeah, right.)
Todd, I'm wondering if somebody confused that mouse rope story with the "Give 'em enough rope and they'll hang themselves" saying... Y'think?
Johnboy, good to hear you enjoyed your visit to "Sprangfield" (as some say it...), and drive careful on the way home.
Jeff, with all those locos, you're right - you need a bigger display case. That, or you need to add on another mobile home on the side of your current one! And only TWO "Frankenstein" locos? I was figuring more than that (guess I was wrong there). that your muscles will calm down sooner rather than later for you.
Curt, you've been making some good progress on your layout, also. Seems like just a couple of months ago when you were figuring out how you wanted to lay out the yard tracks.
Ken, best wishes with your loco puzzle/problems there. NOT fun!
Thayne, what've you been doin' lately?
What happened to the forums the other night? I tried to come in and got some humongous error page (like it wasn't there or worse) when I tried to get to the forums. MR main page was okay; it was getting to the forums that was a no-go.
I saw that electrostatic generator thread on my way here to the Diner, and for those looking for info, the R.A. Cooke site has a PDF file, plus there's a link in the thread that actually leads to the Mar/April 2010 Model Railroad Hobbyist issue (if you've already downloaded it, as I have). I also would like to figure out how to (safely) build and operate one of those (since I don't have a spare couple of hundred lying around...). Any of you Diners ever make one (or try to)? And if so, what tips can you give Galaxy and me (and anyone else in here) on what to do (or not)?
I've been on-call this weekend also (Hi, Barry!), and so far things are very good (and calm...). Looking to get my graphics program out and start on making some signs (for my Quonset hut record shop and some other buildings) on the 'puter to print (maybe tomorrow, depending on how far I get on things tonight).
Another question for you more experienced Diners about painting - I have the Walthers Farmers Co-op (their red wooden one), but want to paint it as somewhat faded and not-so-new. Wondering if I want to just add a little white to the red, or grey it out too, to get that faded color. Anybody got suggestion on that?
I'll be at the RC, mulling it over a bit while I get my ...
Blessings and prayers,
Jim in Cape G.

GALAXY, you are a special member of this fraternity and I would venture to say that the majority of us read all you have to say. Hope you get to feel much better and shake those darn migranes.
I do know the feeling though, as sometimes when you post a few thoughts and/or questions and you don't get a reply, it makes one wonder if the rest just skip over your post. " been there thought that"
KEN, That is really tough luck on those locos. Hope you get them up on the service line soon.
ULRICH, I agree with the others who have commented and as I stated right at the start of the month, that we have the best tour guide in Germany. Hey, maybe that is your calling.......... Think about that. With your personality I could see that working out well for you.
GARRY, In real time, did the CB&Q ever name their locos in the Zephyr series as you have done with Silver Pilot ?
BARRY, Hope your little operating session went well today, and to all my other countrymen I wish to extend a very "HAPPY THANKSGIVING" to you all. I might not get back in again until I get home next Wed-Thurs. So I hope you all get a big belly full of Turkey & stuffing, because it would sure suit you all. Just Kidding with that last statement. You are all a fine looking group. and I am glad to be counted among you.
Prayers for dry weather for the North East and at home, rain for Texas and Okla. and smooth trails (rails) for the rest of you.
Johnboy out....................................for a while
from Saskatchewan, in the Great White North..
We have met the enemy, and he is us............ (Pogo)
Coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please.
***Ulrich, really like the rail pics.
***Jim, we picked up the Great Pyrenees pups following the loss of our two old pyrs, which had died only weeks apart. The younger male pup got side-butted and slammed to the ground by one of the pygmy goats the other day, so now he's afraid of them. That goat should rethink it's actions, as one day that little puppy will be a BIG dog keeping coyotes at bay.
Can't figure out where to drill a whole in the pickups firewall to run the wires to the starter button?
Hope everyone is having a good day.
Rob
Got my newest GP9m today. A Walthers Trainline unit painted and marked for the Pennsylvania Railroad. Through a bit of painting, decal work and and use of Clear Flat it no longer has anything to do with Pennsylvania except for the cab number. The unit is now lettered for the L&A. I exercised great care throughout to insure the shell wouldn't get cracked or crushed even to the extent of putting a block of wood in the shell while I worked on it. One of my tools wasn't so lucky and was tragically damaged during a muscle spasm and must be replaced at the earliest opportunity. Fortunately it wasn't critical to the work being done.

Well.......you know how these things go...if you youtube the thing you get some darn interesting ones coming up....my favorite right now are these ones...
Arkona...russian singer...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SgXlUxDGFvU&feature=related
Heidevolk...twin lead singers...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmGLpuLX9vI&feature=related
Most of this is heavy metal with a fair bit of folk legends and traditional instruments as well...
The only thing I have accomplished today was taking a nap. It has rained all day and is still raining but not hard. Tomorrow my Mom and Dad are coming over and Dad is supposed to bring his train stuff over and run a little bit. This will be the first person besides me to run on the layout so I am curious to see how it goes.
I have been looking at the flooring sections on my Walther's Modern Roundhouse and can't decide if I want to actually use the floor sections which would require striping ties off the rails and gluing them into grooves on the floor or get some thin plywood or something similar and just either nail or glue down the track ties and all. I don't plan on doing anything inside besides maybe a welding light. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Jeff- Although I am sorry to see that it is no longer a Pennsy loco it looks great.
Have a good night.
GOOD NIGHT!!!
Sleep Well!!!
See you in the Morning!!!
Blownout, Thanks for the link I will try looking there,
Jim, Hello! I am here. Thanks for asking! I usually stick my nose in a couple times a day to see what you are all up too. I know that none of you really know me very well so I have been trying to be friendly without bothering you all to much. like I have said before I am a truck driver and I usually spend about 60 hours per week in the cab of a old mack truck. I was hoping to start some bench work today for my second layout attempt. The first attempt was a huge failure but I learned alot. Today was spent cleaning the house, paying the bills and helping a friend dig a hole mount sat dish on a pole. Unless something pops up I should be able to do some MRR stuff tommrow. Hope everyone is doing ok tonight!
Thayne.
Evenin' Folks!
Just a decaf for me right now.....
Interesting day! My son finally showed up a little after 4PM to help me put the post in the ground... Took all of 15 minutes to do once he got here. He was about ready to leave after getting the key to my pick-up truck (he want's to go fishing on Monday and needs something to pull the boat trailer) when the phone rang or what ever them cell phone/camera/text/thingies do these days. it was his better half. She ended up inviting me over for supper. Since supper here consisted of some leftovers I wasn't looking forward to, I accepted. But before I could go over to their house, I had to finish up a small piece of the lawn I didn't get to (in the first half) yesterday. Did THAT, and went in the house to shut down the computer and get a couple things and found one of the kitties had left a hairball on the rug....... wonderful..... I was going to move the truck off the yard, and got in it before I remembered I had just given the only key I have for it to my son........ So I arrived about 15 minutes later than I said I would.... OK, cause supper wasn't ready anyway. Granddaughter #1 was starting to feel better, she slept all day after being up sick all night.
Got a bit more foam cut and glued in place tonight in the layout room. Also painted a metal pole the sky blue I used for the backdrop. Still looks like crap, but not quite as obtrusive! I will hide a bit of it with a small forest (about 3 trees). It will be a small forest, but it's a forest.
Still need to find a "house sitter" for when I have the layout open for the Fall NMRA Meet.......
Hope you all have a great night... I think I will listen to the famous aria from the Opera, Hansle and Gretel, and Ted, and Alice, by PDQ Bach. You know the one sung by Alice... Alice Uber Deutschland.... (Sorry!) Actually my favorite from the Opera is the monk's aria,
"Et expecto resurrecreation; Et in unum Dominos and checkers; Qui tollis peccata mundi morning. Mea culpa kyrie elei- Sonny Tufts et Allah in Pompeii; Donna nobis pacem come what mei; Agnus and her sister Doris Dei; Lord, have mercy on my solo."
Today is Sunday, October 9th,2011!!!
{yes...ALREADY over a week of October is gone!}
I hope you all had a good night´s sleep in the clean mountain air.
We have got the first snow for the season. It is a sunny and bright morning, so we will have some sights today!
Have a joyful day!
