Good morning, Chloe.  Just a quick coffee before swimming.  Today is a work day.

Garry,  Yes, that is me, and safety is the key.

Good Morning All,

Sorry I haven’t been keeping up on posts; the rush to tackle outdoor projects on my house and projects at my girlfriend’s house has been keeping me away from the hobby way too long this year.

I did manage to work on the rolling stock dresser for about 10 hours this weekend.  The cabinet frame is completed and all 10 drawers are ready to be installed.  The dresser is 27” deep, 34” tall, and 44” wide, and on casters.  The drawers are 3” x 25” x 41”. The dimensions allow it to fit under the bench work. Without drawers the unit weighs less than 10 pounds and will store approximately 300 fifty foot boxcars.  I installed the bottom drawer, filled it and when fully open the dresser doesn’t tip at all so I have the balance correct.  I’m running out of time and need to finish this project before it’s too cold outside to paint it.  Once I’m finished I’ll make a set of drawings and materials list and maybe submit it to Model Railroader…

I’m thinking next spring I’ll build a second unit to store MRR materials.

I’ll try to catch up on posts today and tomorrow…

Guten Morgen miene Freunde!

Ah...  Cinnamon rolls.  I'll have a couple of those and my dark roast coffee for Frürstück.

Currently 61°F here in the Finger lakes with a high around 76°F by mid afternoon with some sun.  Beautiful Fall day!

Barry, I love THAT photo!  I think the axe has seen better days?

Guess I will just sit back and enjoy the view while I finish up breakfast.

Later!

Good morning. It's 63° and sunny. The high will be 86° and it will be mostly cloudy.

Well this morning I got down to the business of wiring my two Bachmann GP7's together into a permanent consist. I was thinking the hardest part would be running the wires from the light board of one unit to the light board of the second unit. It seemed to me that it would be something like threading a needle at midnight with no moon and no light source in a high wind. Turned out it was about as easy as falling off a log. Simply solder the wires to the light board of the A unit, run them down the sides of the weight, thread them through the bottom of the frame where the gear towers come through, thread them through two tiny holes drilled in the pilot either side of the coupler then do just the reverse on the B unit working from the pilot up to the light board. Did I neglect to mention the units are joined tail to tail? That adds just an extra little wrinkle to the wiring. I tested for shorts throughout the procedure as the last thing I wanted to do was have to take it apart again. The only difficult part was getting the shells back on. They had to be set on rear first as the wires were run through the rear facing pilots. Naturally there was some slack in the wires. I took most of it out by twisting the wires together in a coil, tied them off with a short length of scrap wire and pushed the bundle down on top of the couplers. There's not much chance of them coming uncoupled as the couplers are Kadee #118 shelf couplers and the trip pins have been cut. They would need lots of help to come apart. And for the DCC folks wondering what of the programming of the decoders of the two units, both were independently programmed before the units were joined, one to run forward and the other to run backward. Both were set to the same address months ago. I used two colors of wire for this. Black and red. My advice to others who attempt this is to use all black wire or black and another dark color such as purple. Trust me, the red stands out very well. I had been putting this project off for months because I thought it was going to be hard. Turns out the hardest part was getting past my own doubts about whether I could do it or not.

Hi guys

Have my lumbar injections today. Whoopie! That means I'll be in some agony this afternoon.

Our pharmacy that was flooded is "up and running" but phone still patched through to the other pharmacy, so can't call in orders yet. That is posing a real problem! they can call out, but we can't call in without geting the right pharmacy!

Didn't get teh porch cleaned off as MOH has said wants to go through with me to make sure I'm not throwing out something MOH wants.. I won't be able to help with that for awhile.

Got the battery for the generator...now to find out what charger to use on it...and buy it! It certainly looks right for the generator and all othres we were looking at not the same. I will call later today to Harbor Freight because the 24/7 order I placed and was charged to my card on Saturday hasn't shipped yet for the wheel and handle kit for the generator. I know they only do things on business days...oh shoot i forgot yesterday was COlumbus day maybe i should allow until tomorrow for catch up with orders THEN complain!

My brother has n auto body shop that got flooded. He is supposed to help replace the floor under our toilet and we ant his help a few other things as he used to be in the construction business. He still needs his tool cabinets and small tools cleaned and WD-40'd so they don't rust. I siad let me see how I feel after the injections maybe I can help him iff'n he helps us. Hard sometimes to get him to do anything that doesn't directly benefit him.

MRI came out OK, though my high blood pressure shows up on the head MRI and they will make an appointment for me for the neurologist..not for sure for what {htough we are still lookiing at causes for migraines} MOH took message as I was catching up on sleep missed last night when they called.

Well, I should get in the shower and get ready to be injected. SOunds like fun, doesn't it?

Talk to you all later, I hope

Good Afternoon Gang.

well, the weather today is not up to what I had hoped it to be. The Bodensee area remained cloudy all day long, with an odd spell of rain. The weather guessers predict it to improve by tomorrow, with temperatures around 20 C and lots of sun.

Our tour will take us to Munich tomorrow, where we will stay a few days. We will tour the city, using the city´s public transport system, consisting of subway, light rail and commuter trains into the outskirts. We will also visit the German Museum, where we will spend an entire day - it´s worth it. Some more points of interest are:

  • Hofbräuhaus
  • Frauenkirche (Kirche = church)
  • Olympic Village
  • Nymphenburg Palace
  • Sendlinger Tor
  • Asamkirche
  • City Hall
  • Restaurant Donisl

and more along our way.

We may also visit the Bürgerbräu Cellar, that´s the place that infamous Austrian with the funny little mustache started his career in 1920 Whistling

Enjoy your stay!

Afternoon All,

I'm at w**k today so no MRR time for me for the next 3 days. Temp here will be around 89 F with lots of humidity for the rest of the week. It is supposed to cool down for a couple of days this weekend.

Ken- Go to the micro mark site. Go to Trains. One of the available buttons is pre orders. Their choice of road is under $100, if you pick then it is $107 + change.

Barry- Nice looking dogs. What kind of dog is in your lap.

Galaxy- Good luck with your treatment today.

Ulrich- You are a excellent host for the month.

It's as important to us as any vehicle on the ol' farm. WEll I didn't get injections today. I got he radio frequency nickknackwhatchamacallitthingy instead to fry the nerves. They will grow back in about 6 months then we can do it again.

So far some discomfort, but little pain. we will see how I feel later or tomorrow. Techincally I should not feel any pain now as the nerves are dead that would send pain signals to my brain.

Got another migraine setting in. THe nice weather is nice, but playing havoc with my headaches...

So off to some GOOD drugs to help out with THAT. They probably won't work. I have 4 different meds to try for migraines. Not a one really does it right, though.

Rest for me today.

Later.

I'm working on it. Today I was going in several directions at once and not getting a whole lot done. I have some satin paint that's called 'Cooled Lava'. It looks like weathered rubber. I figure if I paint it with that stuff it won't be so obvious. I might use that on the track wire too.

Evening All,

Not much going on here. There is a breeze so the humidity isn't bad tonight. Friday I go back to my MD and get 2 large cysts removed from my neck and back then my son and I are going to try to go see the new "Thing" movie. We both like SciFi and Horror movies. I got permission from work to take a vacation day this Thursday. I have a family matter to take care of.

Ken- Thanks for the video link. I preordered one of the PRR Mogul's today. Although the firebox is wrong I think I will be real happy with it. The 2-8-8-4 they were showing is pretty awesome also. It's probably to big for my layout, but my Dad was successful running with a WM 2-6-6-2 on Sunday.

Jeff- I mix the rust color paint you told me about and mix a little black Acrylic with it. To me it gives a oily look when mixed. That might work on your wires. This is what I ran down the center of the ties after ballasting.

Everyone have a good night.

Well here's what the 'Cooled Lava' color looks like. The wires don't stand out so much anymore. I put some on the track wires as well.

Rob: Glad to hear you got the truck working. I hope my advice was helpful. It was many years ago that I did mechanical work as a job.

Today I received several packages. One contained several near-mint Tyco freight cars.

Another had an unassembled Athearn Dow Corning covered hopper with the DOW diamond.

There was also a Walthers Alaska GP9m shell and a new multimeter.

Evenin' folks!

Just a decaf for me tonight...  Overate at supper and the blood sugar is a bit higher than I like it (even though it is still in the safe zone).

Looks like moist everyone has already turned in for the night.  Must be the tour is tiring them out, what with all the walking through the beautiful gardens and historic buildings.

Speaking of gardens....  I dug all the carrots today.  Got a good amount for what I planted.  They will get canned tomorrow.  I will be doing some heavy duty house cleaning tomorrow as well.  Just because it really needs it....Whistling

Got some more foam put in place on the layout and put a layer of plaster on the plaster cloth I put down yesterday.  I also did about 3 foot of ballast where the earth had received its dirt color.  I am very pleased with how the PC ties came out.  I painted them with Roof Brown, and then dry brushed Reefer Gray over THAT.  I have trouble telling witch ones they are without looking carefully.  Photos tomorrow if I get a chance.  Have to do a photo shoot at the other two layouts we have open for the Fall Meet on the 22nd.  The editor of the Lake Shores Limited wants to use them for the October edition.

Rob, glad the truck is back up and running.  Very glad the push Button trick w*rked well for you.  We had to use it on a couple of old tractors way back when...  usually a junker from the Dead Letter Office at Don Howard's Farm Machinery.  He was my Father's Cousin and we could "borrow" a piece of junk to use as the 2nd. tractor most summers.  I got to drive some real contraptions I tell you!

Jeffrey, the Lava color looks much better than the red wires.....

Have a great night!

Good Morning All,

JR; good suggestion, but I’m using primed pine for the project.

I went to Home depot to buy the drawer guides and they were sold out again so I ordered 9 to finish the project.  The guides should be here on the 18th.

Curt; 4 7/8” not sure if my emails are leaving the home computer, I’m having some issues with the home computer.  I’m trying to nurse it through Christmas then replace it.

Good morning, Chloe.  Coffee, please.  I have a little more time before work this morning.

Lee, Sound like a great  project.  I can't wait to see the photos.

I have had so many outside projects that it is hard to get back to the layout.  Larry & I both have buildings that need finishing details.  This weekend looks a little quieter.

Later, Sue

Good Morning!! Coffee and a couple waff… ya know, what the heck, some more strudel please. Thanks. Tastes different over here.

Showers and thunderstorms likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 75. South southeast wind between 6 and 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Should finish the brakes on the old fitty six today and then wait for the gas tank to get back and replace it and then check the charging system. Next he’ll want a tune up.

Inch- Laugh Good to see you. I assume all is well. Halloween is coming up, lookin forward to a few pictures of the grandkids all dressed up.

Ken- Fingers are crossed for you today!!!! Good luck.

Another day, another potential for disaster. We’ll see what happens when I head into town to pick up the parts. The old truck just ain’t as spry as she used to be though still a pretty darn good truck. It doesn’t have a lot of miles on it but they’ve been pretty hard milesWhistling. Brenda thinks it’s time I get a new one. I hate to get rid of an old boot that’s worn in perfect, but she may be right. A boot doesn’t have the potential to leave you stranded. Just will make you walk lop-sided. I don’t know. Fix this one up or start over. One thing’s for sure, this is my third Dodge truck, (I guess they don’t call them Dodge’s anymore) and if I do get another it will be a Dodge. Or Ram, whatever they wanna call it for whatever goofy reason. All three have been bullet proof and very reliable. Well except for the transmission in this one. But Chrysler paid for it towing and all even though the warranty had expired. Only by 5 days though. Probably had one of them secret warranty extensions and the SM just lade it sound like he didn't know and Chrysler said they would cover it anyway "ol buddy... such a good customer....we care about YOU!" (chuckle)

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

 Morning!

 Flo, Coffee please.

Did not sleep worth a darn last night. Between not feeling good, thinking about the NTB Job. NTB stands for National Tire and Battery for folks that have never heard of them. I am just a little worried about running one. While I have ran 4 different kinds Auto Repair shops before, I would all most prefer to start as a sales person and work my way up in the company. That way I would know all of the in and outs of the job.

But then again, while I ask a lot of questions here on the site about cars. I still know my way around one and remember car stuff pretty easily. Still hope to hear back about running Auto Body Shop, know a lot more about paint than Brakes. Whistling I have not installed a set of brakes personally for over 20 years

Worried about Tiffany Another reason I did not sleep well last night. Tiff started coughing, like she was trying to cough up a hair ball. For Dog's, that can be a sigh of Heart Problems. We know she has a heart mummer all ready, so we know to watch for the coughing. Going to call the Vet as soon as they open and see what they think. Figures i have a job interview today. Bang Head

Thayne Thank you wishing me luck on the job interview. I have been wanting back into Auto Repair, but if there technician are like any of the others I have managed, I could have my hands full.

Curt I am guessing the video you are talking about is the preview of the new Bachmann line up. I was disappointed they did not run the Yellow Stone anymore than they did. Plus I not sure I like the idea that they all come with DCC but no sound and you have to buy a sound decoder from Bachmann for the engine.

Well, going to read some about NTB and then see what the Vet says about Tiff.

I’m having some issues with the home computer.  I’m trying to nurse it through Christmas then replace it.

That's why I built my computer with generic parts. If something goes wrong I can simply change out whatever part with a replacement from almost any computer shop. Last problem mine had was with the main board. Changed it out in 30 minutes.

Good morning. It's 62° and partly cloudy. The high will be 87° with a 20% chance of afternoon thunderstorms increasing to 40% in the evening.

Nothing much going on today. I plan to examine a Walthers loco to find out why it has bad pickup problems. Only the first wheelset in the front truck is picking up power. The rear truck isn't picking up at all.
