Grilled chicken with steamed veggies please.

***Curt, hope your wife starts feeling better soon.

***Galaxy, do work on eating more veggies. Just consider them the best drug with actual healing properties on the market, bar none. Wife and I have at least one veggie w/ fruit smoothie every day and steamed veggies at least once. We should be eating the latter several times a day, so do as I say, not as I do.Hmm

Wife helped me get up one run of fence plus a small extra (reused) section. Pulled and nailed. I hit the wall out there and was fighting to not pass out. Let the wife finish nailing the remaining posts while I sat on the tractor. I could no longer grasp the hammer by then anyway. Only about 1000' left to go. Will be very nice when it's all finished and the horses can graze in there. Will save a lot on hay.

Guten Abend Leute!

Ich werde eine Tasse koffeinfreien Kaffee, danke.  So what is THAT, THAT Galaxy is chowing down on?  Liver, Bacon, and Onions with sour cream on top.....SurpriseConfusedHmm  Hmmm.  I thought he had some problems with high cholesterol.....  Must have been wrong.  THAT would be instant artery clogging to me. Whistling

My house smells wonderful right now!  I have 3 of these in blossom here in the dining room:

Night Blooming Cereus!  They are about 5" across and the smell is wonderful, almost overpowering!  The photo above got published in the local paper a few weeks ago.  By morning they will be gone.

Brought in the rest of the butternut winter squash today.  Have 24 squash I think.  One of them is 12 inches long and 4 to 5 " in diameter.  Has to weigh 10 lbs.  THAT will be for Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner.........  I'm going to give a few to the community lunch program as they are such where they won't keep for long (they have some insect damage or brown patches from laying on the wet ground).  they are fine, but will spoil in about a month of storage.  I'd rather somebody got use of them rather than throwing them out a month from now.

I also spray painted the whistle post sign (LV) with Rustoleum today and bought an 8' long 4" x 4" treated post to put it on.  I wanted to use angel iron, but it appears to non-existent around here at the moment.  the origials were put up with old boiler tubes THAT had been creased and flattened on one end and the sign was then riveted to the tube......  THAT ain't gonna happen either! GrumpySigh  I want to have it up for the layout tour on the 22nd.  Oh!  I went over to a guys house tonight and got everything done for him to open his 1,800 sq. ' layout for the Meet as well.  He models the LV and has a couple miles (not scale) of hand laid track.  I forget how many 100,000 match sticks were used for ties.....

Heard back from a local family who have operated my layout before and three of them will come over and run trains for the openhouse.....  YES!  Now i just have to con er, ah, find someone to be upstairs host for the afternoon.  My son and his wife did that last time I was open, but are having a Halloween party that afternoon for a bunch of 4 year olds.....

Did a little painting of rails tonight, not much else on the layout.

Close to calling it a day....  See you all in the morning!

Gute Nacht

Chamomile tea, please.

***Ray, I haven't seen or smelled one of those beauties since I lived in Arizona, over half a lifetime ago. It was always a special occassion when one was going to bloom. Both our neighbors (Admiral & Mrs Spangler) and we had them and would get together at night when one would bloom to share in the beauty. I put your image on the desktop.

Have a good night all.

Good Morning All,

Not much going on today.  I need to finish up the outside chores before the first killing frost then I can get back to the layout.  Jeff seems busy building and repairing. Maybe he should hang a shingle out front “Jeff’s car and locomotive repair”.

Good Morning!! Coffee and the fruit plate please. Thank you.

Sunny, with a high near 84

Naturally, NAPA did NOT have all the parts in. They said they did but after arriving, one wheel cylinder was….not in. Oh well, no biggy, just back in there this morning.

Ken- depends on your perspective of silly or stupid fights. I say Brenda and I never fight, and for the most part that is true. She just draws irrational conclusions. You know 2 plus 2 somehow adds up to 73. And of course, can be justified. But, probably a good thing you sent the things back, Mom had some. They didn’t work. Rope works better and is cheaper.

Thayne- Like the guy who wins a few times at the casino, you never hear about the multitude of times they lost . That’s the same with my wife. I tell the whacked out stuff, because there isn’t enough room on the internet to tell the good stuff.

Garry- The steak house was in Austin, Tx. AAAAnd, yesterday after I was here I found my MR mag on, or should I say in, the kitchen table pile. (hate it when they put those cardboardy covers on them. It blends in with some ag magazine she gets that we don't read) Great photo! and pert near a full page photo too! Actually I think it's about as full page as they get for Trackside Photos. Congrats!

Notice how I said was for the restaurant? Yup, looked it up this morn and discovered the place was closed. Too bad. Like I said, that girl on a swing was cool. (clangk)

Liver…,bacon…,onions…and….sour cream. G. I think I see…Confused a problem. But by golly it sure sounds delicious. I like liver and onions too. MIL smothers it in a gravy and maaaaaaan is it good eatin. We’ll try the tip on the mac and cheese thing. Usually we just melt some velveeta and milk over macaroni or whatever small pasta we have available. Not real keen on the box stuff but she does buy it from time to time to use if she is in a hurry or just doesn't wanna mess with melting or if it’s mixed with a can of canned chili. The kids loved it. Oh and by the way, you may want to recheck your math. LaughJust kidding, I know what you were thinking. 500 is halfway from 3 to 4000. I do stuff like that all the time.

Too bad about the Apple guy huh? 56 is way too young.

Well, other than w**k on that truck before w**k, don’t know what all I’ll do today. But, by all means…

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

OH! Tim (again) Be sure to check out the Longhorn saloon just down the block from the Alamo. It has a museum in it. Kinda neat. Also, if you get a hankerin for some BBQ, there is a place billed as the worst BBQ in Texas. Can't remember where it is exactly, but if you take the loop and get off like you're going to Sea World, you can't miss it. IIRC

See why nobody around here asks me for directions to something? Laugh

Good morning ....... I'll have apple strudel, please.

Ulrich.... Heidelberg is a nice town to visit. I did not know about the interurban line, and I like that picture you posted of the interurban train. The castle is so huge you never forget it. I recall there was a giant sized wine vat inside. I recall it was said that the wine vat was never empty. The king had people pouring wine into the top as he drank from the spigot at the bottom. ... Thanks for continuing the tour.

Todd .... Thanks for commenting on my photo in MR. I'm happy with it. Sounds a good steakhouse. Not sure when I'll be back in Texas. That's where I was born.

Galaxy ... I'm sorry to hear about you heart situation. You said your cardiologist is 79. That's remarkable. Regarding heart issues, I encourage people with unresolved heart ailments to go to a cardiac clinic at a major university hospital. I have that opinion because I go to the heart clinic at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, TN. My treatment with Vanderbilt has enabled me to live a somewhat normal life. Also, they have saved my life already.

Happy Model Railroading.

howmus

I used to have a "rules" sign in my room at school.  It read, "Rules for Chorus"  Rule 1 - The Director is always right!  Rule 2 - In case the director is wrong, please refer to rule #1!

\

Howmus, I like that rule.  It reminds me of when I had the electrical inspection done after putting up walls in my basement many years ago.  I got a copy of the Electrical Code, studied it, and made notes.  I was very careful to follow everything in the Code book.  When the inspector came, he told me to move the emergency cutoff switch for the furnace to outside the furnace room.  I had it inside the room.  The Electrical Code said that if you could see the main distribution panel from the furnace, the switch could be located outside the furnace room, even on the wall beside the stairs, but if you could not see the panel from the furnace, then the switch had to be inside the furnace room.  Since my furnace is in an enclosed room not near the main panel, I put the switch inside the room.  The inspector made me move it.  Since I worked for the electrical utility at the time, I phoned one of our engineers who was on the panel which makes revisions to the Electrical Code.  You can't get more of an expert than that.  His reply was, "Yes, you are right, but the inspector is more right."  Even if the inspector is wrong, you have to do it his way or he won't sign off on the permit.  Oh well.  Now, I make a point of showing the technician where the switch is when they come for the yearly servicing since they would be looking for it inside the room.

I got a good laugh from the email this morning. A traffic citation from the city of Chatam, New York. Seems I was speeding in a 55 zone. It was worded:

New York State — Department of Motor Vehicles
UNIFORM TRAFFIC TICKET (ID:88358),POLICE AGENCY
NEW YORK STATE POLICE
Local Police Code 527
THE PERSON DESCRIBED ABOVE IS CHARGED AS FOLLOWS

Time: 7:25 AM
Date of Offense: 07/02/2011
IN VIOLATION OF NYS V AND T LAW

664 Description of Violation
SPEED OVER 55 ZONE

TO PLEAD, PRINT OUT THE ENCLOSED TICKET AND SEND IT TO TOWN COURT, CHATAM HALL., PO BOX 117

Obviously this is a very thinly disguised scam ploy. #1, I live in Louisiana. #2, The last (and only) time I was in New York was in 1968. #3, The courts, city, state or otherwise don't send citations, traffic or otherwise, via email. #4, If the low forehead that thought up this sorry scheme thinks I'm going to send him/her/it anything, the only thing will be an invitation to kiss my Native American butt. I marked the email as SPAM and filed it accordingly.

Good Morning All!

Not much to report from the land of Buckeyes on this sunny and warm Thursday..My eyesight seems to be improving after discontinuing my new medication-at least N Scale doesn't look like little fuzzy looking things still I wonder if there is a lesson(warning?) here since me or my eyes isn't getting any younger?

Of course the modeling is on hold till my vision clears up and when that happens I need to buy a bottle of ACL Purple so I can touch up the handrails on the 1387..

I shall have a cup and look over da forum.

Have a good'un!

Gute schöner und sonniger Morgen, du!

Ich werde ein paar Eier über einfache, Speck und Toast Weizen zusammen mit meinen Kaffee zu trinken. Danke!

Yes, a chilly but sunny day here in the Finger Lakes.  Currently 55°F with a high of 63° later.  Managed to avoid  a frost last night and I have already seen several bumble bees and a few honey bees out this morning keeping the beans coming for me.  Probably not long before the harvest will be done and the remains composted for the year.

Ulrich, the tour just keeps getting better and better.  Beautiful country!

Got a call this morning THAT the leaf blower I took over to the chain saw place in Penn Yan is ready to be picked up.  I'll get it out to the museum this weekend when I go.

Jeffrey, you got THAT bucket of bolts up over 55 mph???  Shame on you!  Now pay the fine.....  Those scam artists gotta eat too you know! ROFL! Laugh

I got a letter in the mail yesterday from Nationwide (Automotive Protection) telling me THAT "The inservice date of your 2005 Jeep may have been over 36 months ago.  Your vehicle repair coverage may be expired or is about to expire based on time or mileage.  This is an important reminder that you qualify for additional coverage under your vehicle service contract program.  This plan is valid for your 2005 Wrangler Unltd Rubicon. ......"  Wow! I better get right in touch with them!  I guess it doesn't matter that I have never ever owned a Jeep, Huh??? Whistling

I best get moving.  Want to enjoy some of the brightness I see outside before it goes away....

I got a similar letter from The National Warranty Commission or something like that telling me that the warranty coverage on my van was about to expire and I needed to send in $300 to extend the coverage. Boy, that's some warranty! My van is only 31 years old!

Good Afternoon All,

Just a run through the to go counter for me.

Ken - to answer your question of a few days ago, the SCCA covers 4 bsic car types. Sedans (now GT) Production sports cars, formula cars (single seaters no fenders) and sports racing cars ( fendered pure racing cars). All the classes have had different rules over the years, but the 260,289 and 427 Cobra and the Corvettes (all iterations) were sports cars and all those motors were allowed in different classes within the sports carcatagory. The sedans were also classed ABCorD in the old days with the biggest engines in A sedan which allowed up to 5 liters as in the Trans Am series. The rest of the permutations and changes over the years would require a book

Hi, Guys and Gal(s)!

Reporting back from the STALAG. Not only passed the exam. but also reached the highest score ever recorded since they introduced this type of training in 2003. I should be proud of it, but as it does not help me to get a proper job, it ain´t worth nothing to me!

Sigh

Glad you folks like the tour!

Ray - now I am a little bit disappointed Smile, Wink & Grin I find Hamburg much nicer than the rest of Germany. OK, it may not be as picturesque as some areas, but ....

There are more spectacular and interesting things coming along our way, I promise!

Tomorrow, we will spend a full day in Heidelberg. Nothing planned, just sightseeing, shopping, enjoying ourselves in a beautiful town. We will meet for dinner, though, I will take some time to find a nice restaurant for us.

CUL!

I have two items coming from Ebay. One is a new Walthers GP9m Alaska shell. It should be here no later than Tuesday. It was $9. The other is a Walthers Pennsylvania GP9m. It's on sale at Walthers for $45.98. That's a tad more than I wanted to spend. I got it new for $29.71. That's $16.27 off Walthers sale price. I find a good deal hard to resist. It should be here this weekend. I'll be doing the usual things to them so Alaska and Pennsylvania fans may want to look away. It will also give me the chance to study the Trainline mechanism and see if there's some improvement that can be made.

Evenin Folks!

I'll have the Beef Sauerbraten with Red Cabbage, Kartoffelklöße, and some of your finest dark Beer tonight.

Been a day around here......  As usual I got about half of what I needed to get done accomplished.  I took a large bag of winter squash and some green beans down the the Community Lunch Program, cam home and finished painting the Whistle Post Sign.  Lugged the 4 x 4 out back and marked where the 1/2" holes need to be drilled to bolt it in place.  I did venture down cellar and did shape and glue a couple pieces of foamboard in place.  then went out and started to dig the hole for the 4 x 4.....  Gonna feel it tomorrow I bet.  First foot went down pretty easily.  THAT is where I hit the huge rock!  Finally got THAT to move and managed to get it out of the hole.  I'm down about 2 feet so far....  Finish it tomorrow and hope I can get my son to come over on Saturday and set the 4 x 4 in place and put a bag of concrete around it to anchor it in place.  Started to drill the ha;lf inch holes in the treated 4 x 4.....  Emptied the battery on my DeWalt portable drill after one and one half holes, so THAT will also have to wait until tomorrow to finish.

Tonight I have a Pack committee meeting I need to be at.  Hope it is not too long as I would like to get some more foam shaped and put in at the quarry.

need to get moving!

Later!

Coffee in a Southern Pacific mug, please.

Got 10 gauge wire, push switch and 30 amp fuse holder (just noticed there is no fuse in it Bang Head) for the truck project. Will tackle that over the weekend, providing I can get a fuse in town.

Introduced the Great Pyrenees pups to 4 pygmy goats this evening. So far, so good.

Hope y'all are doing well.

 Evening folks.

Ich möchte ein kaltes Bier ist ein milchglas Monon Krug will.

Well, I did not feel any better the rest of the day. Laid on the couch all day watching HBO. Worst part is when I was drinking Diet Dew, I could fall asleep when I was tired like today. Now that I am drinking coffee (and liking it now) no such luck.

Hope I feel more like doing something Friday.

Jeffery I am sure you know this web site.

                                          http://www.modeltrainstuff.com/

I have seen some Train Line engines in the $29.00 range I believe.

Todd Far as the plug in things to keep the nice away, I am with you on them working. But it makes Sue feel better. If $30.00 keeps her from driving me nuts I am for it. But on the Rope keeping mice away, where you just kidding? More than likely it is a old wife's tale (my wife is, ah looking over my shoulder) wife is old. Whistling She sure does not look 60, but I know the truth.

Is it based on the theory the mice will think it a snake and runaway if they have to climb over the rope?

Train Front Did make it to K-10 today. Bought a present for a friend, MRR Magazine and a Blue Box Custom Painted Hopper. I have only been looking at this hopper for 6 years, but it was $18.00 and K-10 had other stock Blue Box hoppers for $6.99 so it was to expensive. Well finally today, it seemed like a bargain with other hoppers being $26.99. Funny thing was when I was checking out, another regular customer saw it and said he would have bought it if he saw it. according to the sku number it has been there 10 years.

 See you all later.

jeffrey-wimberly

 howmus:

Whistling

I got a similar letter from The National Warranty Commission or something like that telling me that the warranty coverage on my van was about to expire and I needed to send in $300 to extend the coverage. Boy, that's some warranty! My van is only 31 years old!

I just LOVED getting the robophone calls telling me "we can reduce the interest rate on your credit card"- especially because at teh time no one in our household had credit cards! Out of curiosity I once decided to "push "X" button to speak to your personal representative now". I got a lady on the other end and :

Me: Ma'am, I'd like to know how or where you got my phone number?

Her: We got it from your credit card account and I can briefly explain to you how we can reduce the interest rate on your card

Me: EXCUSE me, Ma'am, but WHAT CREDIT CARD COMPANY are you representing?

her: the primary credit card you hold.

me: Which card would THAT be?

her: you should know which card I refer to.

Me: well refresh my memory. WHICH credit card is it? You should have the information in front of you on your computer screen if you can reduce my interest rate for me.

Her: I can not give out that information.

me: Then HOW CAN YOU REDUCE MY INTEREST RATE on ANY CARD I HOLD?

her: we can only guarantee to reduce the interest rate on your primary card.

Me: WHICH IS WHAT CARD????

her: SIR, if you just let me tell you about our program....

Me: ma'am, I don't what kind of scam or phising expedition you are on, but I DON'T HAVE ANY CREDIT CARDS!!!!

her: if you just let me explain our program...

me: Ma'am I will tell you again: I DON'T HAVE ANY CREDIT CARDS!! I don't even have a DEBIT CARD!!! NOw I request teh company you work for REMOVE MY name and Phone number from your records and DON'T CALL ME AGAIN!!

her: you have a good day sir...CLICK.

me: yeah right

>>Too bad "my name Peggy" wasn't out then!! I would have used it on her. The CApitalized words were not screamed at her, but rather heavily emphasized with a hint of annoyance....

The worst part about all these businesses now  putting a "survey" on their reciepts "you can win "X" amount in cash or gift cards"...is that they want your phone number "to call you in case you have won"...and that we had a "National Survey" calls show up on the Caller ID. 3 times we did not even let them get into telling us why they were calling, we immediately said "what ever it is you want, we aren't interested" and hung up. The fourth time they called...MOH said "you have been told 3 times nto to calll here, now DON't CALL HERE AGAIN or we will consider it harrasement."....then 3 days later I said to MOH "we better be careful and LISTEN to what the "survey" phone call is about..we MAY have won somehting from one of the store surveys we did by phone!!!!" They have not, needless to say, called us agian. Darn. Especially if we won something!!!

*sigh*

AS PT Bartnum said "there's a sucker born every minute"...and some will try ANYHTING to sucker us in!

Well,

GOOD NIGHT!!!

SLEEP WELL!!!
