 Evening Dinners!

 Flo Beer Please.

Boy there was a lot of running today! Left the house at 9:30 AM and I got home at 3:00 PM.

Bought a tire today Whistling And it was not from work Whistling I know it sound stupid, but I want all 4 tires to match. I had all ready bought 2 of them and this one makes 3, 1 more to go. Besides, the Left Front was close to having cords coming out, it would suck to have it blow on the way into work.

First time as a adult that I have all 4 tires match was when I was around 27. Up to that point I replaced the bad tire with anything that would fit. It was such a thrill to see my Road Runner with all matching Raised White Letter Tires! Big Smile

Getting The House Loan Modified. Well that is coming along sort of? Seems the Bean Counter's said I did not send in all of my 2010 tax return paper work? I had H&R Block do the return and they used a 1040EZ. Well there is only 1 page to the 1040EZ, so what else I send in?

Mornin'

Ich werde die Kartoffelpuffer an diesem Morgen zusammen mit meinem üblichen dunkle Röstung Kaffee. Bitte und danke!

Ulrich, what a wonderful tour you have given us of Daß Vaterland!  So many beautiful places and things to see and do.

Thayne, glad the Doc. got the skin cancer removed for you.  Hope it was gotten early!

Ken, you will get into the groove of the job soon.  Sounds like it will get you back in shape and be good for you in many ways.  Good luck!

Lion, you should also be wearing a Hard hat I believe...... Whistling

Currently 45°F here in the Finger Lakes Region.  Glad I still have a few sticks of firewood left from last year as my wood for this season hasn't been delivered yet.  May see a few sn*wflakes tomorrow.  They say there will be no accumulation.  I hope they are right as I have to drive to Penn Yan to do a RR MB presentation to the Boy Scout Troop down there tomorrow night.

Been a bit crazy here right at the moment.  Last night my son called right as I was heading out the door to a meeting to tell me I have to pick up granddaughter #1 from School on Friday @ noon and then take her to the day care place as he is now working a screwy 12 day work schedule that varies from week to week.  It seems THAT every other Friday, i now will be responsible to transport her from school (preschool) to the day care.  Problem for this week is I was scheduled to do a judging for a Merit Award (2 actually) for oine of the NMRA members at 9AM.  So..... We have finally got that changed to afternoon (it involves 3 of us coordinating our schedules to do this).

I have to get everything ready for the Scout presentation today and run through it a few times to be ready...  best fet at it.

Later!

Italian Roast coffee in a  CSX  mug, please.

***Jeffrey, take care of yourself. Hope you get to feeling better soon.

***Lee, any idea how much ceiling height is needed above that double barrel stove if the cieling is sheetrock? Or, would it require hanging a sheet of masonite above it? That coal/wood stove sounds great, but potentially expensive. Anyway, I'll probably have to go this winter with everything turned off (COLD) until I get through probate. Never in a million years did I think my wife would die first.

Thank you all for the continued thoughts & prayers. Thay ARE very much appreciated. What a wonderful group we have here.

Galaxy:  Putting stabilizer in the gas can is pretty much a must.  But, it won't help for long term storage.  I put stabilizer in the gas I use in my lawnmower and snow blower.  I can drain the gas out of the lawnmower and run it dry in the fall when I put it away for the winter.  However, I couldn't figure out how to drain the gas tank in the snowblower last spring (new machine) and there was way too much left in the tank to run it dry.  When I had it serviced this week in preparation for the fast approaching winter, the mechanic told me that the gas left in the tank was on the verge of turning to varnish and the carburator was starting to get gummed up.  He showed me how to get at the gas line to drain the tank.  Believe it or not I have to detach the tank at the top and swing it down to get at the gas line to disconnect it to drain the tank.  I would never have figured that out on my own.  So if you're going to be storing it for a long time, drain the tank and run it dry.  Pour the leftover gas in the can into your car when it's tank is almost full.  It will mix with the gas in the tank and dilute.  He's an excellent small engine mechanic and I trust his advice.

Good Morning!! Coffee and …..strudel I guess.

A 40 percent chance of showers after 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 57.

Thayne- Glad they found the skin cancer and I hope the wife’s test is just routine and comes out good.

Jeffrey- I hope you feel better.

Been meaning to check out for Chef Ryan. Haven’t heard from him since the weather hit Raleigh a year or two ago. Can’t remember. I had a computer crash since and lost all e-mail addresses so I have to find the receipt from the spices I got from him. I suppose I could google….. Also I wonder about PC. He would be harder to locate.

Welp, today I am going to load the rest of the junk in the truck and head to the dump in Springfield. Sorry Ray and others who try to not use as much of the landfills as possible, myself included, but I have no choice.

Still haven’t heard about an appointment to close yet. The Title company says they were told the 31st. The “SOLD” sign has been removed from the house so I suppose that is a good sign as opposed to it saying “FOR SALE” again. Hopefully I will find out today.

I’ve got a few things around here to do, then head out.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Good Afternoon,

after some relaxing hours on the beach at Warnemünde, we are now heading for the town of Binz on the island of Rugen, which happens to be the largest island of Germany.

This is were we will stay tonight:

As we are on the coast, we will go for a nice fish dinner tonight.

Some more impressions of rugen:

Tomorrow we will take a ride on the remnants of a once fairly large network of narrow gauge lines, connecting all parts of the island.

The following days will see us slowly heading back towards Hamburg, with stop-overs in Bad Doberan (just to ride on the "Molli" - a steam operated line connecting a few seaside resorts) and Lübeck, with its medieval city-center.

Our tour throughout Germany took us to some of the highlights the country has to offer, but certainly not to all. There is a lot more to see, but covering all of that would not be possible in a month´s time. On our tour, we  have traveled about 1.500 miles by train, boat or bus, actually not much, considering the great variety of landscapes and cities we have visited. For those of you, who are interested in history, there are many more places to visit, like Wittenberg, where Martin Luther lived, orv Aachen, where Charles the Grat (Charlemagne) was crowned to become the first German "Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire of German Nation" in AD 800, now claimed by both the French and the Germans. We could go to Trier to visit the 2.000 year old Roman Porta Nigra gate or visit Worms to feel like a medieval German King. The list would be endless.

I hope you have enjoyed the tour so far - it was certainly an honor to be your tour guide this month.

Have a good time!

Jeffrey,  On another note, you seem to come up with the hot deals constantly.  But I enjoy the gondolas.  Thanks for the ideas.  The big train show/swap meet is next month, and gondolas are definitely on the list.

Just lucky on the deals. Some are low priced buys, others are trades, some are donations. The gondolas in the photo are Athearn 50' gondolas. The loads are donated plaster castings.

Good morning, Chloe.  A quick coffee before heading to work.  Life is just too busy.  Too many projects waiting for me to get done.

Jeffrey,  Larry said, "Thanks for the compliment."  On another note, you seem to come up with the hot deals constantly.  But I enjoy the gondolas.  Thanks for the ideas.  The big train show/swap meet is next month, and gondolas are definitely on the list.

Curt,  Thanks.  Larry does the backdrops and I do the trees.  It is an act of congress to plant a tree on our layout.  We spend a lot of time looking from all directions to make sure the trees are not planted in a line.

JR,  Does Chef Ryan drop in very often?  Has anyone heard from him?  If I remember, he had some great layout photos.

Off to work,  Sue

Good morning. It's 60° and mostly cloudy. The high will be 84° and it will be partly cloudy.

Just more layout cleanup that I didn't get to yesterday. Seems to be a never-ending battle. I'm not feeling good today and probably won't do much.

Oh yeah. That's a given. Nothing on the layout escapes weathering.

Good Morning All,

Jeff those gondola loads are looking good.  I bought some more materials this summer and hope to make a few more this winter.  Soon I hope things to settle down around the house and I can get back to decal printing and casting.

Curt, I’m a horrible photographer!  Most of my pictures come out blurry or out of focus so I bought a Nikon D3100 SLR from MicroCenter.  They had 12 months same as cash program and the camera cost around $500.  The thing that sold me on the camera is my friend has a D90; basically the same body idea but the D90 and D80 are professional cameras with a professional cost.  My friend had me spin in a circle and snap pictures; every picture came out in focus.  Any Nikon lens built after 1960 will work on this camera.  It also captures video in 1080p…

I’m with Curt on the CAD track plans; I bought a plastic HO-Scale tracing template, sharp pencil, a big eraser, and graph paper.

Rob, we had a homemade double barrel stove when I was growing up.  The fire is in the bottom barrel and the top barrel gives off a tremendous amount of heat.  It helps if there is a place on the top barrel to set a kettle of water, it humidifies the air and helps produce more comfortable heat.  The only problem we had was the double barrel stove produced more creosote in the chimney than a traditional cast iron stove, and we couldn’t use coal in the double barrel stove.  We replaced ours with an air tight coal/wood stove with a fan driven radiator in the chimney above the stove.  It heated a 7 room farm house in northern Ohio without difficulty.

Thayne, will the legs have some way to adjust the height?  No floor in any house is level…

T-9 days for the new windows and the return of my MRR projects, wahoo!

Good Morning All,

Finally made it back to the museum yesterday. The iNvisible scale is still running well with the new style Con Cor coupler/trucks solving the derailment and uncoupling issues nicely. Biggest thing now is going to be keeping up with wear on the little tiny motors in those engines. Cleaned track on the HO and G layouts and did some troubleshooting on the O where we seem to have power drop issues so we'll put in some more drops and a buss loop if soldering the joins in the track don't fix the issues.

Good to see Rob back. I know he'll be down in the dumps but I'm glad he's taking the time to drop by.

Galaxy - sounds like you've got all the bases covered. The stabilizer in the stored fuel is good also as will be trying to keep it where it won't get too much temperature fluctuation or exposure to the sun (a tarp can help there).

Jeff - looks like you have some nice projects again. will you be weathering that new trailer?

Curt - nice progress and ditto on the graph paper and doodling for planning. I have the program Chef Ryan helps with tutorials on but I can never get past the room setup part of the software. FYI having cut my share of rail (we have a special power hacksaw at the museum) we try to cut the rail straight so we con't have to do multiple cleanup cuts when we use it. Most all the used rail we get shows up that way as well. The only exception I've seen is where they are cutting rail that's been involved in a washout or derailment and it's going right in the scrap gondola. Then they use a torch. On the New Havens Maybrook line they used a rack for holding the repair rail sections and spaced the racks every mile so they would double as mile markers. Easier to see than a little white sign at night or in the snow. Not sure what Pennsy did, but thereis another item for you to research.

Ken - sounds like the new gig is coming along alright. Do take care to get some proper sleep though. Don't want those tire stacks falling on you - right?

Gottta run. GEtting another car delivered today, still struggling with the last gearbox (just won't shift smoothly yet) and I have a Dr appt with the kidney guy today as well. Better than sitting about I guess.  CUL, J.R.

Good Morning Folks!

Boy, only 5 more days left on our tour throughout Germany! Time to leave Berlin and head for the Baltic Sea coast. We will be in Rostock and Warnemünde today and take a train to the Rugen Island later in the afternoon.

Rostock is a fairly picturesque town, but there are not may points of interest with respect of railroading. It´ll be nice to relax a little after spending a few days in our bustling capital, and cath a deep breath of salty air on the beach of Warnemünde.

Tomorrow we will be riding a steam train again.

Have a good day!

HELLO  Everyone! I had a busy day, I cleaned up some leaves and then started making some saw dust. I got four of the legs built for the layout. I'm thinking I will need about 18 total? I had a doctor appointment while i was there he spotted some skin cancer. He stopped what he was doing and worked through his lunch break and cut it out. He took a pretty good little chunk out of my chest. when he was finished he said "I may have saved your life today!" Really made me stop and think. I didn't even know i had a problem?? the numbness is wearing off and it stings a little. I go back next Wednesday to get the stitches out. I will be back working on my bench work in the morning. Got to drive the wife (Cami) to the doctor in the morning she is having a colonoscopy. I will see you all in the morning!

Galaxy - when you get ready to store the genset don't forget the fuel stabilizer. Otherwise prepare for a tussle starting it up when you need it.  J.R.

We got the fuel stabilizer already and will add a dry gas. The stabilizer will also go into the gas cans backups. A dry gas will be shared among the 3 cans. Just in case.

Also have a stabilizer trickle battery charger that says it will maintain full charge on batteries such as boats, ATV, Motorcycles etc while in storage to maintian full charge with an automatic shutoff. It is NOT for charging up dead batteries. The battery will be stored inside the house till needed then reinstalled in the generator, with a monthly charge on it. I think that will do.

Boy I am tired, I need to get my sleep pattern going quick. Well it is my fault, I want to play on the internet while I should be going to bed. Last night by the time I went into eat and eating dinner I did not get to bed till 11:30 PM. I was up at 5:00 AM, out the door at 6:00 AM and sitting in the parking lot at 6:45 AM. No wonder I am beat, dumb me only sleep for 5 and a half hours. Need to remind my self I am no longer 40 years old when I could pull this stuff off.

Nope...as I/we have gotten older I/We treasure our minimum 8 hours sleep. For me it is really 12 hours a day as I take meds that I think may contribute to my needing sleep. But we are usually in bed by 9-9:30 pm so as to get up at 5:30 AM when MOH has to work the morning shift. Even on days off, we get to bed early and and usually get up early still.

Hope you get your sleep cycle to match your job real quick! Zzz

Speaking of sleep: it's a bit earty but as I shut donw the computer now:

SHHH!!!

GOOD NIGHT!!!

Evening All,

At w**k and not much is going on. Tomorrow is my short day but MOH is doing something with my daughter so I am on my own for supper. I'm sure I will survive.

Sue- That is some great looking scenery. Well done.

Jeff- My in depth pre planning is using graph paper after free handing it for ideas. I tried using the Atlas program but never could figure it out. Technology is not my friend.

I want to upgrade the camera that I am using. The zoom feature causes blurring making finding the proper distance for the shot hard. I want something that has clear zoom, video ability and sound. Of course I don't want to mortgage the house either. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

Everyone take care of yourself.

Galaxy - when you get ready to store the genset don't forget the fuel stabilizer. Otherwise prepare for a tussle starting it up when you need it.  J.R.

Well, got the generator all toghether and fired her up for her maiden run.

Runs smooth. WIll run it for 3 hours, then shut off for the night. Then run it again when we have NO RAIN to finish off the run-in period.

Then we have to change the oil and stuff to get it ready for storage. As winter coming on, I thik I get some 5w-30 oil to put in, It says so if to run below 30*, and that'll be here soon.

Well, supper's going gotta tend to that.

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

I got an old Bachmann mobile home today. Bachmann no longer carries this so it's been around for a while.
