***Everyone, THANK YOU all very much for the kind, heartfelt condolences. I am not answering e-mails, so just know that I appreciate each and every one you for sending them. What a grand group of kind souls we have here in the Diner. Spent over an hour reading all the posts. That is a mighty train parked beside the farm here. And all that motive power, that sure is appropriate. I'll try to drop by now and then, but this is a day to day survival thing for me and it is going to be a very long road full of challenges ahead. The funeral/ceremony was Friday, but her ashes are here with me now. At some point I will spread them on the farm. Just trying to stay out of the hospital, as that spot in the pectoral has hardened and swollen up some. It will have to subside on it's own. Sure can't afford an ER trip.

Yep I'm up, and moving, and already done my duty as an usher this morning at church..... Guess I'll have a hamburg while were in Berlin.... I'll wait 'till were in Hamburg to order a Berliner... or something like THAT. Oh, better have another cup of dark roast coffee. The pot of it drank before church didn't even begin to wake me up.
Been a great weekend for model railroading around here! Great Meet and big crowd here at the house to see my layout yesterday and while I was opening the door for people coming to church this morning a lady who is a deacon came in and following right behind her was her FIL., C. I. Siebert Jr. MMR #62. He is well into his 90's. Mr. Siebert was the first person to be awarded the MMR using traction for his layout. He will be coming over to visit the SLOW sometime soon.
I'll think I'll go down cellar, turn on the heat, and stare at the layout for a while to see if I can figure what 3 things need to be done first.... THAT is called a Triority!

The Cursed SD 50 just might be heading down to the Sun Dances Shop! Got it all buttoned up and gave it a test craw, I would have gave it a test run, put craw was all it would do. Retrospect, I should have test ran the motor after I dropped it!
Did break out the 2-10-2, good running old engine. Funny how I read the post of the main page about a 2-10-2 picking turnouts. Now mine just started doing it? Figures, did not do it till I read the post.

I'm back,
I just completed about 1 hour of switching on the layout. I found 2 places that no matter what I tried the loco would die. These were areas not normally used. In both cases after I did a good cleaning of the track, magically the loco worked in both spots. Note to self: Make sure the track is clean.
I forgot to mention my bonehead stunt last night. When I was packing up to go to the club last night I packed up 2 rechargeable Powerex batteries (meaning I placed them loose in a car box). When I got to the club both batteries had slid together touching the terminal posts. Both batteries were hot to the touch and their cases were bowed out. This morning neither would recharge.. Note to self: Always use the provided battery carrying case.
I will talk to you Monday.

The local Union Gospel Mission Dental Clinic fundraiser was last night. They managed to drag all the volunteers in the audience up on stage for the first number. I didn't have stage fright because the lights were so bright that I couldn't see past the front of the stage.

Your pictures reminded me of one air show that I attended with my wife and granddaughter years ago. They had the spectators facing the runway where the action was to take place and the announcer was working the crowd up telling them what they would be experiencing. He had the complete attention of everyone in the crowd to the point where we didn't notice a fighter jet coming up behind us at a VERY LOW altitude and faster than the speed of sound. The plane passed right over our heads from behind in dead silence, then a couple of seconds later its sonic boom hit us! It was so erie to see the aircraft go past in total silence and so close to the ground. That was a spectacular way to start the air show.

Good morning. It's 63 and cloudy. The high should be 80 with a 50% chance of thunderstorms. It's possible we'll have a couple of storms this morning.More layout clearing on the schedule. Yesterday I went and voted in the state elections. I was a bit miffed because the voting machine wouldn't allow me to vote for the police juror for my district. Several other people were getting a bit ugly about it as well. As I was leaving a couple of the people who had finished voting cut the turn out of the parking lot and their right front wheel missed the culvert resulting in being stuck there. I told them if they had a rope or chain I could pull them out of there. About that time a couple of big cornbread and beans guys turn up and grabbed the front of the car and lifted it up like 'OK, where do you want it'. Upon getting home I discovered that the cable was out (that meant no internet) so I set to work on a Tyco 'Old Dutch Cleanser' hopper I got in the mail yesterday. It was just the body. It wasn't long before I came up with trucks and wheels for it. I added an ounce of weight to it then body mounted a pair of Kadee #242 coupler boxes. Kadee #5 couplers were next and it was done. Maybe later today I'll file the round hatches off the top and replace them with oval hatches I have that were left over from a kit.

Getting ready to mess with scanning Sues paper work, scanning is a pain. All so need to set up decoder pro and the PR 3 to check the decoder for the SD 50.
Starting Work today. Boy, I have mixed feelings. Don't get me wrong, this job is a God send. But how many of us really like working? (OK JR) Going to be long hours, and main thing I am worried about is all the standing and walking. Legs will get stronger, but still worried about the bone spurs in my left ankle. 10 years ago when I was running a shop it caused me problems.
Well got to start on the SSI paperwork for Sue. I drop by later.

Sitting here drinking my coffee. Not much planned for today except work at 1600. High today is supposed to be in the mid 70's. Had a good time at the club last night. I ran a coal drag with a K4s in front and 1 in the back pushing.It worked out well.

it is icy cold here in Oberwiesenthal, but with a clear blue sky - the best weather for riding a steam train.
Tomorrow, we shall be leaving the serenity of this place and head towards Berlin, bustling capital of Germany and with its 3.5 million inhabitants, by far the largest city in Germany, seconded only by Hamburg. We will stay a few days there and explore the city. We will take a look at the Reichstag and listen for a few moments to a parliamentary debate, walk through the famous Brandenburg Gate, visit Checkpoint Charlie and the remnants of the infamous Berlin Wall, tour the Museum für Technik (Technical Museum) with its large collection of railroad displays, climb on top of the television tower nicknamed Saint Walther´s (for Walther Ulbricht, former President of the GDR). There is a cross-like reflection on the tower, hence the nickname. We will also travel to Potsdam and visit Sanssouci Palace, the residence of Friedrich II., King of Prussia. Travel in Berlin will be made by the city´s excellent network of commuter trains (S-Bahn), subways, light rail and buses.

Charlie- Lots and lots of people say we have the best pizza around. They brag about it like they’re gonna get a discount. And these aren’t just local people either. A few say it’s not the best but real good. I’m among the last bunch, good, but not the best. But sometimes, like you said, it seems a bit salty. I don’t know why because we make every part from the dough to the sauce. We also use the same cheese on lasagnas and sandwiches and they don’t taste salty. Only thing I can think of is the dough. The guy who usually makes the dough kinda eyeballs it. I thought it might just be me as I don’t rally like the taste of salt except on potatoes. Now I'm curious. I might just make the dough next time and see if there's a difference.

Today, I should get the pressure washer out and clean off the driveway, spray the mold off the north side of the house, (special request from the CEO) hit the mowers aaaaand then winterize it I suppose. Among other things that need to get done such as I mentioned earlier.

A regular to go please Zoe. VSCCA board meeting today so I am at the shop waiting for my ride. One of the other directors lives here in Newtown so we alternaterides to the meetings. It's only once a year so....
Got the chores done yesterday in time to get some more done on the trackage and foam base for the second level. I now have a 4' section that I need to put tunnel lining into before i cover it up. The first half is easy to access but I may have to cut an access hatch for the second section as it has a curve. Yeah, I know don't put a curve in a tunnel but we'll see how it goes and it is a very gradual curve.
Ray - glad all the hard graft and preparation was worth it. And you now know exactly where all the rest of your track issues are.
Oz-Jim - the Fa18 is the same as the ANG used for an impromtu airshow in New Jersey this summer. Seems the Blue Angels were grounded for some violation of safety regs and there was an airshow advertised with the weekend so..... We didn't expect much but the pilot was good and the plane is awesome. You can do a full 4 sided box with square corners, stand the thing on its' tail and go straight up for as far as you can see. Wow, it was impressive.

Ray, I am glad your day went well. sounds like all your effort and hard work paid off, A great guy from the club I belong to had a open house last weekend. His layout is Z scale, Pretty amazing! I had a great time at his home. But we could of used some of your cookies......

We just had a thunderstorm here which is a little unusual to say the least for Oct. 22. Snow would be normal but hey the leaves are still green on the ornamental grabapple tree.
Todd, that is really great news on the house. We had a pizza tonight but I was a little disappointed and I was thinking, it would be nice to be able to just drop in and sample one from your restaurant. I'm finding our usual place to be too salty. Must be the cheese. What do you think?
Ken, good luck on the tire count tomorrow. Reminds me of when I was a young teenager and my dad would get myself and a friend to count the bolts in the bolt bin. Dad owned a hardware store in Rainy River. Took us all day but we did it because he paid us and we used the money to go to the car show in Winnipeg. I remember seeing a split window Corvette (new at the time) that cost $7,200. There were a lot of import taxes on U.S. built cars at that time.
Ray, sound like you had a great day. I sure would have liked to have taken a tour of your layout and sampled those cookies too.
We went to see the travel agent today to get some information on our planned return trip to Africa in 2013. I guess I'll be working past 65. We are planning to go to South Africa this time and I'm hoping to include a trip on Rovos rail. They use restored rolling stock and have 6 steamers in their fleet. We'll have to see what the budget will bear.
I also went to the LHS to get a few things I need so I can start laying track on my N scale layout. I ran out of cork roadbed and needed a riser set too. Maybe I'll get the track started next week but maybe not. I haven't run my HO for a while and it is beckoning.
Well I think it is time for a little TV.

Had an interesting afternoon here what with unexpected visitors..my sister and her friend showed up..with a new chair for moi.
And also had a neighbour show up to run some trains..and didst find a few more issues...again with a wye non turning turnout...found a loose piece of ballast cluttering up a point...
Chloe, I'll have a 60 oz quadruplex burger..no make that 4 of them...with fried portobello mushroom gravy and fries as well..and a tub of RBF please....I'll be at the corner booth....

Been a long day for me since i arrived at the LV Museum in Shortsville, NY at 7:55 AM this morning... A long but very good day. We had about 35 people (mostly members) attend the Meet. There were 3 excellent presentations, a dozen or so models entered in the Popular Choice Model Contest. A bunch of door prizes were given out (we weren't even going to have door prizes, but many people brought items), Handed out a couple new NMRA AP Certificates and had a very good time! The afternoon also was fun here at the house as most everyone who came to the morning session also drove down to see my layout. Had some great conversations with people about what I did and why with several asking for more specific info I promised to get to them. Many had not not been here before and complimented me on my scenery techniques. One gentleman who is the Operations Guru from a neighboring division has been to my layout to advise me on how to start operations. He loved my changes up on Bare Mountain from an operational standpoint...
Only problem we had was one of the throttles didn't want to shut down a moving train all day. Almost had a cornfield meet between my 2 passenger trains...... I guess it is time to send the throttle in to Digitracks for service. Had a couple derailments which we traced to the newly ballasted trackage on the mountain. The family that came to run the trains for me had a blast as did the couple who house sat upstairs all afternoon. So, I had fun, they had fun. Went through about 7 dozen of my home baked cookies.... I guess the day was a big success!
Hope all of you had a fun day as well!

Got my package today. In it was a Tyco Dutch Cleanser hopper body, a URTX old time reefer body and an MKT stock car body. All three minus trucks and couplers. The hopper now has trucks and I'm working on body mounting a pair of Kadees. I did it on the other one easily enough so this one will be snap. I'm going to make the reefer into a storage shed and I don't know yet what will become of the stock car. I have another box coming that should be here next week. It contains a mobile home kit.
