Hello everyone!  WEEEEW!! I am worn out!  Been working on my layout room all day it is on the 3rd floor and the dog and I have been up and down the stairs more today than in the past five years.  I finished the dry wall and painting. it looks pretty good if I do say so myself. now for the bench work. I keep rethinking and rethinking I guess that I will just go for it.??? I am pretty good with wood work and have some really good tools so wish me luck.

Ray, Thank you so much for your advice. I had masonite on my old layout and like you I did not like the seams. now you have me thinking about the 1/2 drywall that 's a good suggestion.  I really admire your layout I have looked at your photo's many times. Thanks so much.

Jerry, Sorry buddy but I don't have any help for you. Maybe Ken or one of the others has an opinion?

                                          See you all later!   Thayne.

Afternoon folks!

Just a RBF to tide me over to dinner later...

Today has been alternating between nice and sunny and drizzly icky cold rainy weather.  In other words, typical Fall day here in the Finger Lakes.

I did some printing, still waiting for the last piece of info and any changes in the mailing list to finish the job.  Need to do all the financial report w*rk as well.  Maybe I'll start later tonight.  I drove out to the Mennonite Farm Stand and they are out of sweet corn and pretty much closed down for the year.....  But, it is almost November!  This is the latest I have ever seen them open.

I'm starting to put together a Design Preservation Models Power plant for the quarry area.  I am downsizing the kit by 1/4 to be able to fit it in the available room.

Thayne and others, in the 2 photos I put up this morning, one is using the old 2700°K low CRI lights.  The other is with the newer 5000°K 90+ CRI CFLs.  Both have had standard color correcting in Photoshop (I do THAT as a matter of practice.  If it doesn't improve the color, I just take a step backwards).  Bet you can see which is which.....Wink

Later!

Mornin' everyone!

Ich werde die Hazelnussomeletten an diesem Morgen und eine Tasse dunkle Röstung Kaffee bitte!  Danke!

Chilly (53°F) but sunny outside the window here in the Finger Lakes this morning.  Have a bunch of fund raising letters to print out (as soon as I get one small piece of info) for the MLK Committee today.  have to correct the donor list from last year to remove any who are not still with us and add some new people to the list (aren't they lucky...).  Then I start printing out envelopes.  Have to go downtown to pick up a Rx, then to the ;post office for stamps.

Most of the day should be "I've been  w*rking on the Railroad..." I hope.

Good you're keeping us honest Galaxy!  We do want to keep our "G" rating here.  I do prefer this diner to the one across the street that has some really questionable "low life" stuff posted by one or two people....  So as it says in the famous PDQ Bach opera, Hansel and Gretel and Ted and Alice....  "Kemosabe watchum what you sayem..." WinkBig Smile

Lion, Manét says "Meow" to your kitty cat.....

Thayne, If i was to do it again (which I'm not) I would use thin (1/2") drywall for the backdrop where ever possible.  You can "mud" all the seams and screw holes on it and it paints very well.  I used 1/8" tempered Masonite which does go around corners well, but I didn't do anything with the seams.....The backdrop here is painted on the drywall:

Here it is on the Masonite:

Notice the ugly seam in the middle of it.  There are ways to seal the seam to hide it, but do it before you paint.....  Also know that the masonite has to be sealed with Kilz or equivalent.

Catch you all later!

Thank you Ken. You know we run a "clean shop" here, and sometimes our emothions can run away with us but we DO need to be clean. They wouldn't allow us to call a wife by that word would they?

They removed my post "calling you" on it.

SO no further harm done.

Have a great day at work!

The virtual LION is still wandering the streets of NYC. I am not sure why he is in a tree. The train in this photo is behind me. I am standing on the platform, and you can even see my shadow taking the picture down on the curbside.

Now then, a LION sized Sticky Bun is in order, with some Orange Juice.

Good morning everyone! Boy it was nice to wake up today and not have to go to W*%K! I love vacation!!! Well for those of you who are interested the layout bench work is going slow but steady. I had a slight delay. I was not happy with the 3rd coat of mud on my drywall repair. I put a 4th coat on last night and sanded it this morning. I like to put 50lbs of mud on and then sand off 49% off, I should pay someone to do my drywall projects but I am to cheep......  I hate paying someone to do something I can do myself,  Anyway the drywall is done and has a coat of kilz  primer on it. waiting for it to dry. It says you can paint in one hour after you apply so it wont be much longer. I have a question for you experts, Is there a standard height for back drops or is it just a personal preference kind of thing? I am going to use 1/4 masonite and either paint it sky blue or use something like Sceniking. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks,

                                                                             Thayne.

Morning All,

Off w**k today so I am going to  do the measurements for the  addition and graph it out to figure what lumber I need to get. I may try doing another video also, I'll see.

Everyone take care.

Good morning. It's 62° with some clouds. The high will be 82° and it will be mostly cloudy.

Nothing on the agenda today accept getting the rest of the mess cleared off the layout. Of course a new batch of stuff will arrive and I will once again be working on projects. I have three more covered hoppers, a reefer and two trailers (mobile home and airstream) on the way. They should start arriving within a few days from now.

Good Morning!! Coffee coffee and coffee.

Sunny, with a high near 70.

Got home at 0245 this morning so I‘m kinda tired. Had to take MIL to hospital yesterday evening. Sent her home. Long story but it was nothing really serious. Other than getting caught looking at the cute little nurses bottom. Not by the wife or MIL but by the nurse Whistling She didn't seem to mind. She just smiled. She did offer to push MIL to the door and wait with us while my "sister" was getting the car (Which I thought was real nice considering she was an RN and they have others to do that stuff). I corrected her of course. She was real cute, maybe mid twenties... looked about 18,19 and I'm not kidding, but to be an RN..... oh well. At least I had something to look at other than MIL's feet.Ick!

Ball game last night was more like it. Well, for me anyway. Cards had their night last night, Rangers sorta had theirs tonight. No blowout, but a shutout still stings. Cards didn’t hand it to em though. One little opening and ZAM! 3 or 4 point innings for either team. Pretty good series if you ask me. Whattaya wanna bet the Cards win tonight. Most were calling for what we are seeing. Back and forth low scoring or at least tight scoring games going all 7. 17-7 was a fluke, well not really. Each team is good enough that that shows just what one night off your game will do. The Rangers are there to show they ain’t chopped beef anymore and the Cards are there to show they deserve it despite coming in on the wild card.

Gotta few things to do today don’t know what all. I probably need to hit the dump with a load of trash. Hate to do that though. Oh well, we’ll see.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Good Morning All,

Rob, good to see you back.

I tried to post this weekend and I’m not sure what happened but it wouldn’t let me mash the button.  I got an error saying I needed to post something as if I was trying to make a blank post.

The rolling stock dresser is finally in the basement, I need to putty and sand the screw heads and give it a coat of paint.

Evening Folks. Sure wish we had a tired smiley faces.

 Flo, Beer please.

Got there at 4:00 PM and they let me go at 8:15. Reason Dave let me go when I told him I need to step out to my car and take a low sugar chewable tablet. By 8:00 I have normally had dinner so I will need to adjust my eating habits. I hated I need to ask, just hope he does not think I will be weak. But I was glad to get the heck out of there, mainly because I spent most of my time just standing around.

Bottom of my feet burn, by legs and joints feel fine at this point. New shoe inserts will help, these are over a year old. They have no where for the counter people to sit. Now I know why, Company thinks if the sales people and manager have a places to sit they will not get up to help a customer. Personally, I think a bad employee will not get up to help a customer. A good one will just have a little more bounces in there step when they have a customer.

I start my training Monday and report to the store I will be trained at 9:00 AM. Guess I will be working to closing and getting out around 10:00 PM. Training should last 2 weeks, I will not earn any commission. That I understand, I am going to be slowing down the people that help me so they will get credit for my sales.

After I learn there computer system (been told it sucks, you hit the enter key it wipes out all the information) that will be the biggest hurtle, when I can do it I get my store. I all so get a $2,000.00 raise a year, while that is not a lot, I was happy with the base I am starting with.

New Tire Smell? Most of us know that new tires has a smell to them. Let me tell you, you go in a room with 2,000 tires (think Dave meant 22,000 in St Louis) they down right stink! Guess I should think of it as the smell on money, but just stinks for now!

Show Room was HOT. It was 85 degrees in the shop room. They are try to cut back utility bills, manager are paid a bonus based on net profit. I thought I was getting a fever again.

I know it sounds like I am complaining. I am not, I am still tickled I have gotten the job! Just talking to you folks like I would a friend sitting here in front of me, nothing more.

Todd Last I heard, this game you might be enjoying. My stereo tuner has died and KMOX does not have the game on line.

 See you all later.

Found three more covered hoppers, different makers and one reefer that I liked.

The covered hoppers are:

The reefer is an 'Old Dutch Cleanser' Tyco model.

The LION has been up in the train room. LIONS do not cuss, but they sure as heck can make a lot of noise roaring. It is a tiny space to work in but the main line is now reconnected and I ran a train on it. The power is fluky, but that has to be re-worked anyway. Now it is time to clean up for Vespers and then supper. Sunday evening around here is optimistically called a "buffet", but what it really is is the leftover leftovers, sometimes called leftover's last stand, but the revenge of the leftovers is closer to the mark. Maybe I'll come back to the diner for some ice cream later.

Rob - Very happy to see you back. Our very best to you.

Ray - Also very happy to hear your meet and open house went well. If fact, it sounds like they went much better than that. You do realize you have probable been now named the permanent host forever after. And I think that's a good and wise choice.

Things are going well at the nursing home for the wife. They have been working her pretty hard in both occupational therapy and physical therapy. It was a beautiful afternoon here in Pittsburgh, so I wheeled her outside for about 30 minutes to get some fresh air and some sunshine. Her and I have also been working out this weekend by taking her down to one end of the building which is not very busy,  and having her wheel herself up and down the hall by herself. I also taught her how to turn around without banging into the walls. Her therapist wanted us to do this so she can build up her arm and upper body strength in order to use a walker later. Because she doesn't see well, she was a little hesitant at first, but has gotten more confident as we went along. I even set up some obstacles, carts and wheelchairs, for her to navigate around. The old girl did really well and is trying very hard.

I guess I better sign off for now and go get something to eat, as I will be heading back to visit again the evening.

Everybody have a good one, Tom

Afternoon....

Cup of hot chocolate for me.  Can't seem to get warm here today.  I will light a fire in the wood stove later tonight to take the chill off.

Rob, good to see you in here.  I have some idea of what you are going through being a widower myself.  Know you are in my prayers!  Take care of yourself, we all think a lot of you around these parts you know!

Just got an email earlier today that made my day.  One the division members wrote to thank me for putting on a great Meet yesterday.  He mentioned that the recent meets have been a lot of fun and his interest in the local NMRA Division was growing again..  THAT is good to hear as I am having a lot of fun myself doing this kind of thing.  Also got a thank you from the museum where we held the Meet saying what a great day they had and inviting us back again.  Always good to get feedback, and really nice to get positive feedback! Big Smile

Hope you all have a great day!  I'm back to putting together a model.

Later!
