Evenin' folks!
Janie, just a decaf for me.
Did actually get to spend a couple hours in the train room today. Started to make the last roof section for the Engine House. Wish I could think of a way to get it to fit right AND be removable..... The inside detail can still be seen looking down into the building and through the windows even if i glue the roof in place permanently. Right now the last roof piece is just a piece of very thin plywood cut to size....... Still thinking on it...... Any Ideas? Stared w*rk on more scenery at the quarry. Cut Shaped and glued down a couple of hunks of foam board there. I need to find out exactly what buildings I will be making for the area and what space they will need before i go much further. One will be a Power House for the Quarry. All the kits I see are much bigger than what would be needed there, so I will be doing some research to see what I might be able to Scratch build for the location.
Did a couple loads of wash, a bit of grocery shopping, and went to the Mennonite market out in the country for some sweet corn. Yes, they still have sweet corn and will for a couple more weeks she said. They are getting it from another farm as theirs is done for the season. I canned another 6 pints of green beans from my garden as well.
I'm tired out for today, so I think I will head out to bed shortly.
See you all tomorrow!

My Atlas H24-66 (Trainmaster) now has a DCC decoder, but it's not the one I thought I'd be using. Recently I traded three locos (two powered, one dummy) for four locos that needed work. Three needed motors, one needed trucks and one needed some minor repairs. Included with one of the locos was a Digitrax Z Scale, a 140 something, that worked in one direction only. I tried resetting it on the program track to no avail. It still worked in one direction only. I was going to cut the plug off it and solder a DZ125 to the plug. But I decided to try something first. If it didn't work I would have only wasted a few minutes. I plugged the decoder into my Atlas H24-66 and set it on the main and hit it with the reset code (CV8=08) in blast mode then programmed it as I normally would. I gave it a try and it works in both directions with the lights on or off. I'm thinking it must have been a program block or error of some kind. Now I STILL have a DZ125 to put in something else. I guess it'll be going into the Model Power GP9, or is that GP7 since it has an antique Athearn GP7 high hood body on it.

Ken: Your Daytona sounds like the same kind of disaster area my van was when I got it. All it needs now is heat, a radio and speakers.
Evening Dinners
Flo, yep thank you.
Ray As far as fixing the Daytona, sometimes I want to, sometime well it is all most not worth thinking about. It is a true eye sore but that does not bother me a lot. But, it's headlights don't work (bad headlight switch and they where only used them in the Daytona and you cannot buy aftermarket ones) I use driving lights that the car came with. One side of the brake lights don't work, turn singles don't work (part of the taillight problem) wiper motor is bad (I can fix that but I use Rain X) and the transmission was slips when shifting from 2nd to 3rd. To keep her going I start I in 2nd, back off the gas and shift to 3rd. Been doing that for last 8 years! Then I start using a high friction ATF and it stopped the slipping. Oh, it leaks a quart of ATF once a week like clock work. Red Green would need 2 case of Duct Tape.
Did not make it down to mess with the Aerostar today, had other things I needed to get done.
Paper Work. Took me 3 hours to get the needed paper work done for ILL Hardest Hit Program. If they can do what I have been told on the phone they can do. My mortgage will be caught up and up to date in 90 days or less. Payment will be lowered to $500.00 from $977.00. It sure sounds to good to be true so I am not holding my breath. But you never know till you try.
Galaxy While I understand the theory I don't buy it. If a person losses there life because they have animals at there house from Petco that is on them. At the very lease open the cages so they have a fighting but slim chances. Bet the turtles, some of the fish, snakes and ferrets would have done OK. Far as Criminal Chargers being brought against the manager? I hope not, it was a bad choices but to go to jail for the mistake, no! It was just a bad choices, nothing more. Now if the person was caught drowning animals for the fun of it? Well I will build the cage my self and stick them in my pool!
Well, see you all later. It is good to see a few more people in the dinner.

Rules are rules and orders are orders. But as in the Army, even the most stringent of orders are subject to last minute changes depending on the change in situation. Adapt. In my opinion, the mission of Petco's adoption program was to get pets to good homes so they can live. Not all rescue missions are successful that is true. But by not allowing people, employees or not, to rescue the animals as many as they could, the manager neglegently and avoidably allowed the mission to fail. His objectives were obviously misplaced. The death of at least some of the animals was avoidable and I do hope he will face some charges. Perhaps placed in a cage slowly lowered into a swmming pool of water would be appropriate.

I'm a small town boy. A product of two people from even smaller towns. I don’t talk on topic….. I just talk.
TMarsh Galaxy- You have GOT to be kidding me. I guess I missed the first time you mentioned about the manager refusing to let the employees save the animals. I would be, well I AM, LIVID!!! That is the most….most….I don’t know what word to use that you can print. THAT manager would be fired, and put up for the community to do as they see fit. I have NEVER heard of something like that. Especially from a place that DEALS in animals. PETCO has got to be just reeling after that publicity got out. Oh I would hate to be that person on sooo many levels.

cudaken Galaxy. Idiot Petco Manger should be made to clean up all the dead animals by them self! Now, I can understand why there are rules about the employees not taking animals home! But I don't think the rule was made so if the store gets flooded, you leave the animals to drown!

howmus Galaxy, I would think the Petco manager down there will be facing cruelty to animals charges! Remind me not to shop there. (Actually I have never shopped there anyway......) First time I have ever agreed with PETA.

Yes, WHAT a mess the Petco Deal is!!!
PETCO would be far better off NOT reopening ANYWHERE in this area!
The CEO appeared here in person to try to mitigate the damage, but it's been done. The manager may very well face criminal charges!
Of course, Petco Manager and CEO blame the city of Johnson City for not notifying them, and The City Of Johnson City EVACUATED THE HUMANS OUT OF the Harry L. Drive area with 15 minutes notice {we know someone from down there who was evac'd, and luckily enough their rental was high enough to be dry but much of Harry L. Drive was flooded very deep} so naturally, they say Petco WAS WARNED.
The Employees BEGGED to take some animals home to save them, but the Manager said NO. Like Ken said, I am sure there is a policy against such actions, but in an emergency, rules should be bent if it saves lives! Even if those lives are "only animals" or "only reptiles, rodents and fish"! It would have been a quick evac as well as the human evac and wouldn't have saved all of the animals maybe, but some would have been spared.
However, Playing devil's advocate here, since large areas here were just totally devastated, I DO have to say, that it is unknown at this point, how many of the Petco employees lost THEIR homes in the flood and would have been "stranded" with some animals, or how/where they had to go to to get to higher ground- with or without animals in tow. This bears some thinking too. The subject may not be so open/closed as one mihgt think or it could be a double-edged sword!
WEll, we and got my hair cut and saw the Dr. We still don't know what is causing my muscle fatigue and weakness. My day started with a phone call from the allergist office.... They can't refill my bottles of serum for my shots until they do a complete allergy sensitivity recheck.... Of course it will be 3 weeks before they can fit me in for the tests. First I knew i had to get it done right now... So for the next 3 weeks of the allergy season i get to snuff, sneeze, and blow my nose a lot.
Ken, if you can get it back into good running shape for a total of $1000, go for it! Mighty cheap transportation I'd say. How much can you get for the Daytona for scrap or is THAT part of the deal? BTW, how are prospects on the job front?
I think I will be spending some time on the layout today.... Have to do the laundry so THAT puts me down cellar anyway.
Catch you all later!
Morning All!
Flo, Diet Dew Please.
JR Boy I wish the Daytona that died was a 69 and not a 91! Hum, with a bad motor, slipping trans, no wipers, no headlights, and rust holes it would only be worth say $40,000.00.
If I had not got into trains (could get the Daytona in the Garage) and had a good income I would fix it. For a boring car it was still a good looking car.
Todd IL has two kind of titles these days for salvage. 1 is a salvage title, the other one is a junk title. Junk title you can not do a thing with but make beer cans out of the car or truck.
Cost of Aerostar. Well it is getting up there, $450.00 for the van, $95.00 for re-builders title then $125.00 for my title and $120.00 for plates. So I am at $790.00 and the van still run's like caboose. Right now, I still need to see if the transmission is good. Then see if I can get Bob on the cheap figure why it runs badly. If it is a $100 to $200.00 fix, it might be worth it. I would then have $1,000.00 into it, you cannot buy much in the way of a used car these days for a $1,000.00.
Jeffery I just realized you paint your Beast to look like your Diesels! Here I thought you never got around to painting the rest of it White!
Well that is it for now.
Good morning. It's 66° and partly sunny. Still real bright despite the clouds. The high will be 88° and it will be cloudy with some sun.Nothing special going on today. I may start work on a B&O bay window caboose but it's not what you think. The rear half will be rebuilt into an open-air redneck paradise with a fridge, grill and chairs. I'll also be creating new shortcuts to my favorite Windows applications and programs. The old ones were destroyed when I had to reinstall Windows a few days ago.
Good morning, Chloe. Did I hear someone say cinnamon rolls? That sounds great with my coffee.
Rob, You are making me feel guilty. We have some posts that are starting to lean. They have needed to be replaced for a couple of years. When you don't have any critters it makes you slack off. I am waiting for the rain to start so I am not working in concrete. It will be a different excuse tomorrow.
Later, Sue

Good Morning All,
Saturday I spent the day with Champion Windows. The windows in the back of the house are literally rotted so bad I could pull them out by hand. The technical measurer and lead test guys will be out tomorrow night. Sunday I dug a 5’ wide hole 8’ deep to let the plumber inspect my drain connections on the side of the 1978 new addition and replaced an elbow and a tee plus improve the slope of the drain along the house for the gutters. It was a 12 hour project to clean up the mess, landscape and replace the downspouts. Monday I went shopping and bought drainage crock, grate, and ½ yard of #57 crushed lime stone. Then we cut a hole in the driveway. Tuesday we dug out about a yard of soaking wet brown clay, poured cement, installed the drain crock, and back filled. Now I need the building inspector to come out and check out my handy work so I can pour the rest of the concrete. Everything hurts this morning, but I saved about $1000.00 doing the project myself. I still have about 2 yards of clay in the back yard I need to haul to the landscaping dump.

Good Morning!! Ooo! The diner looks all fancy shmansy this morning. What’s the occasion? Coffee and a cheese flip danish kinda thing Thanks. Mostly sunny, with a high near 74. Up with the chickens today. Been up bout 2 hours now. Got off w**k last night and went straight to bed. I guess a bit too early. Still miserable from head stuff, but I have been through my E-mail and determined there is nothing on E-bay I absolutely needed. Ken- Last time I checked, about ten years ago or so, in the state of Illinoyz a salvage title con not be turned into a regular title. Once it’s salvaged they say it is always salvage regardless of what you do. Don’t know if it’s changed or not, but considering, I doubt it. Well, scratch that, I see where you have been given the info I was not. Possibly because I more than likely asked can “I” get this since “I…” As opposed to “how” can I..yada yada yada. Personally, and this is me mind you, I would smile at Bob, tell him you “appreciate the offer and it is a good deal, but I’m afraid it just may turn in to more than I can deal with right now.” My opinion, if you have to fight this much to get it running… Maybe this isn’t the one for you. Of course, J.R. Has a very valid point too. Notice how I can offer advice and you still don’t know how I stand on something. Do you suppose that’s why my wife just looks at me and frowns?

I can’t help but notice how appropriate Rob’s signature lines are right now. Even in hard times, I think I’d rather have hard times here than anywhere else I’ve been. The legislatures just need to get their heads out of their biological exhaust ports and do what is good for the country and not what is good for them.
Today is bill pay day. The Pony Express just dropped off every one of them I think, so I’ll use what’s left of my money for that. Good thing I have not had much time for MRRing or… I don’t know where that was leading. I’m a bit separated from myself. See, Pseudoephedrine(sp?) is the only thing that works for me. Well “works” isn’t exactly accurate, let’s say.., “works” the best. Problem is there is a side effect and that is it makes things noticeably slower to register with me. Especially if I have to make a conscious thought. Such as recalling a story, or event, reading and comprehending, and, of course, listening and comprehending. Not that I can’t, but it is noticeable to others that something is amiss.
Today also is the day I get the rest of my hair cut. If you recall, a couple weeks ago I cut 4 inches off the golden locks. Last week I shaved, and tonight at 6 I will have the rest professionally removed. Well, not all of it, but a normal haircut. And at Ray’s suggestion, I shall get all of my hairs cut while I’m there. Cost is the same. After I shaved, this girl I know, who is about twenty 6 or seven, I forget, said I looked much younger with my beard shaved. So I asked her out on a date and, she accepted. I thought “cool, this is alright. I should have shaved a long time ago.” She is very pretty, (actually, I’d say that she is still very "cute" would be more accurate) So I was pretty much having a good day until Brenda said no. She always says no. I don’t know why I bother. Maybe after I get my haircut.

So...outside of Woodstock ON there is a bear siting...and the local experts are trotting out the 'they are someone's escaped animal from a petting zoo..." argument....
So....how have we been this fine morning?
Evening all. Just stopping in to catch up on things and have a RBF before bed. Had to w**k today and it wasn't all that bad, I kinda enjoyed things, tomorrow is another w**k day for me, as it is truck day.
Ken: Glad to hear that the Aerostar is coming around. It might take a bit to get it to run better if it has sat up for a while.
Rob: Hope that my test procedure helped you with figuring out what's happening with your Chevy truck...of course you could always just whack the starter with a hammer and see if she cranks....if it does, its the starter, if it doesn't, well....there you go!
Welp, nothing else is happening around here, got some laundry to put up, might have to drive to Pensacola tomorrow afternoon to check up on my wife's cousin's car (she's in school down there), and it won't run well, so I'm guessing its tune-up time. Think I'm going to head to bed.

GMTRacing No No No Ray Ken had a new Daytona not a bacaruda. a barracuda or an old Daytona for that matter woulda been worth saving a new Daytona, not so much. It's really difficult to get a usable car when you're in difficult circumstances (after all you drove a beetle the German deathtrap all those years ago when you couldn't afford anything else). No worries mate, I drove one too - a 55 with no starter motor all my college years (fortunately Igot thrown out of college early and was soon into a Volvo which was all around a better car until I could afford a Ford. Was that alll one sentence? Any who how in this modern world we live in one must have wheels, no? In any event the application of sweat equity can make a difference for those of us with limited means - witness Jeffs majestic Dodge van.

Ah....... Yes.......... (nods head).... Ah, Yes, I got cornfoosed for a bit there. Yep it was a ah..... Let me see, it's a place down in Flowidah... Oh yeah, Daytona. Used to think the old Bacarudas were quite the thing back in High School. I was usually driving my Dad's 1956 Dodge half ton pickemup truck most of the time.... Used to drive it the 3.5 miles from the farm and stop at the first gas station in town to fill up the oil.... Truth! Sorry Ken! I remembered you liked the Barracuda that's all and it got misplaced in my old brain. BTW, JR, I kept on driving Bugs for a good many years because I like them, not because I couldn't have gotten a different car. I especially liked the 1971 Super Beetle I had. Had an extractor exhaust on it and and used to do wheelies with it in the parking lot at Chemung School. One little kid out there named Brett Bodine thought it was the coolest thing going back then..... I also used to love getting behind the wheel of one of my neighbors Porsche 911 T back in those days...... A 55 eh? My second one was a 56. It had 237,000 miles on it when it died on the first day of Spring in 1969.... I kept telling people it had to get me through the winter. It did. I paid $275 for it, put about 35,000 miles on it and then sold it for $75 to a guy who made it into a dune buggy! Pretty cheap transportation I think.
Finally did spend some time with the layout tonight. Found all kinds of little things THAT need to be corrected before I open the layout for the Fall Meet in a month.... Little things like out of gauge track, some wiring THAT never got finished (to a frog), and a few other things. I did buy a new kitchen sink and faucet today and check all the tires on the truck, trailer, and log splitter and fill them to where they should be with air. Also cut up the rest of the old desk I took out of the office area a few weeks ago. It is all neatly stored in the mini dumpster to wait for pick up in a couple weeks.
Hope all of you had a great day!

Well, got another rumored "confirmation" that Home Depot won't open again. At least not in THAT floodplain location. That will give the two Lowes a boost and a few other smaller Home Centers a boost too. I think Home Depot got a snow job done on them anyway when they built there. Everything there before flooded, though it is next to a dike. They tore down the damaged buildings that were there, saying they didn't fit their plans.
Another row of shops in JC won't open again either. One new plaza was just built. Again, it is a known flood zone and I think they got a snow job. Gander Mt. Sporting goods store had just opened in 2006, when they got flooded out and thought about not opening again. Snowed into believing it was only a "500 year flood", they re-opened. They won't again,. at least not in that location.
After the problems Petco had about the manager refusing to let willing employees take animals home that would have saved them from drowning, and the CEO blaming the JC govt and the JC govt blaming and possibly leviing charges against them and PETA showing up to protest teh store, they would be far better off NOT opening again!!
I missed the FEMA totals tonight on the news. Suffice it to say as more people and businesses apply, it will rise from the $13 million of yesterday.
Govenor Cuomo siad he will apply for other Fed funds as "NY is not a state that typically floods a lot", "so there are other funds NY may be eligable for". True enough, bu the one-two punch of Irene and Lee is what did it.
Sad to drive through areas where there is devastation, naturally. We passed on driving home Old Vestal Road as it would be too heartbreaking to see that. Thursday we will drive through Owego on the way out to friends in the country for dinner. Owego Town was almost totally flooded, even if by just inches on the first floors in some areas, it filled basements and all. Poor old Victorian Mansions inthe Historical District that have stood for 150 years +/- that got flooded.
Well, Went to pulmonologist and had my CPAP machine pressure increased. Pretty soon, like our furnace, I will be able to fly away with it,.....
SOothing the "burns" the dermatologist did yesterday with teh liquid Nitrogen to freeze off things on my head that sem to keep popping new ones out every year. Better than skin cancer again though. These things are basically harmless, but should be frozen off for safety's sake.
Well, will see you all tomorrow!
Sleep well, I hope I finally do!
Talk at you later!
After getting sisters car running this afternoon we went off to the Keji adjunct or seaside preserve where we took another hike and saw besides seals and birds, a snake and a bunny rabbit. This is worth mentioning because we saw nothing at the main Keji except some mosquitos and a couple of dragonflies.

Speaking of Barry.... Sounds like you got to deal with a lot of STUFF today. Guess we should give you an honorary degree in STUFFOLOGY, huh? Always liked using the word STUFF ever since the technology teacher across the hall from me came over and showed my one of the students paper from a test he gave THAT day.... The question was to define "Technology". The girl put down, "....Things we use to make STUFF!" The next day the techer put a new sign for his class up over his doorway, it read, STUFFOLOGY!
Today he would have been fired for embarrassing the poor sweet little thing. One Technology teacher did get into major trouble after putting up a sign in his room reading, "Clean up after yourself! Your Mother doesn't work here!"
I too got some STUFF done today.... Still have time to get some more STUFF done as well.
Ken, I do hope you aren't paying much for the car.... By the time you get it on the road it may have been cheaper to fix up the old "Back or rude ah"......
Later!
