Hello? What happened to the lunch crowd?

Flo, wake up! Can I have a beer please?

Hum, wonder what all the other people are doing lately? Hope they are working on there layouts.

Mini Van Front Today I set the charger on a 2 amp deep cycle charge and did my running. Checked at a Title Company and I can get a title. Yes I can, BUT a body shop with a re builders licenses has to get the title. That tile is $95.00 not counting any fees a shop might want, then my title and plates will be another $245.00. Figures my Daytona plates are do this month.

Went back to Bobs and the van did take a charge, so maybe the battery is good. Checked the oil, it needs to be changed and was 1.5 quarts low. Added a quart of oil, and added some fuel stabilizer to the gas which is full! Fired it up and ran it for about 20 minutes. Well it still runs like death, but oil pressure is good, engine is quite. It would idle after it warmed up, but very badly. Put it in reverse and transmission (auto) mad a zing sound but moved. In forward it hesitated then moved. Could not get it out of the back lot because a 55 Belair was in the way so I parked it.

Could just be low in transmission fluid, but it was late and I was done messing with it for the day. Going back Wednesday for round 2.

 Dropping by later.

Strong coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please.

***Tom, neat pic of that beast.

I wish the number of financially successful people was on the rise and that Govt power and control was in the decline. That would be a step in the right direction towards creating jobs. Redistribution of wealth through Govt is a really bad idea, not to mention extremely wasteful.Mischief

Emptied the shopvac to start cleaning up the train room floor. Will tackle that task this evening. Today, we're going to set a few more fence posts.

Hope y'all have a great day.

My wife couldn't find the "good stuff" for horse wound treatment. For now, I'll use what she did get and hope it helps.

It's a damp and cool day here in Pittsburgh, and it's expected to remain that way through the end of the week. We have been busy the last couple of days, and the shedule through the end of October is filling up fast. The wife and I got our flu shots at the Doctors last week, so that is one fall activity out of the way.

Sunday we went railfanning at my favorite spot on Norfolk Southern's main line. We usually stop at a fast food place an get an order to go. Kind of an express picnic while we sit and watch trains. Caught 7 trains in about 2 hours. Also got to look over a Dash-9 and an SD60 that were tied down on a siding in the industrial park.

You don't appreciate how huge these things are until you can get up close. I don't know why I didn't think to get my wife to stand next to the Dash-9 to show how small a person is relative to these monsters.

Monday was our running around day. First to the good old ATM, then breakfast at our local restaurant, then weekly grocery shopping, the pharmacy, the library and finally the Mall. Then out to dinner. The restaurant we had dinner at had some kind of a promotion a couple of weeks ago where people cold drop off their favorite receipes. My niece did, and was asked to return and cook hers. It was then put on the menu for a week, and if it was popular, would be put on the menu permanently. It was for "gnucchi with a tomato cream sauce". I must say it was delicious. I hope it makes it as she is an excellent cook. I've always been a meat and potatos person, but she has me eating things I never would before.

The wife wants to go to the casino on Thursday, and then we will be going to Harrisburg for one of our great nephew's 5th birthday party this coming weekend. If Sunday is a nice day, we might take a detour on the way home to railfan a little at Horseshoe Curve, Cresson and Cassandra.

Hope everybody has a great day. Tom

Jeffery, Master Of Mismatching. Have you ever fitted a BB F-7 shell to a PK 1000 F-3 chassis? I am wanting to fit a A unit shell to a PK 1000 chassis. I am guessing in anyone here at the site has done it, it will have been you.

It's a tight fit but it can be done. I've done it with both A and B shells new and old. Right now I have a Proto 1000 chassis wearing a 60's era Athearn Hi-F F7B shell.

Mornin' Everyone!

Zoe, I see you have fresh baked cinnamon rolls again this morning, so I'll have a couple of them to go along with my dark roast coffee this morning.  I'll stay away from the guys standing on the soapbox this morning and just chill out....

(sits back, puts feet up on chair)  A few years back when I finally had a bit more $$$ coming in than I absolutely needed to pay my bills, I used the entire extra to get out of dept.  Having finally accomplished THAT, I will now pay cash for all purchases if possible!  I had a great uncle who lived THAT way for most of his life, and he was known as a person who was both frugal and had the best of most everything.  (He used to write a check for his new car every 2 years....) I figure If I can't pay the bills there are only 3 viable long term options.  Getting a loan can only help in the very short run.  I either have to 1) cut expenses, 2) increase income, or 3) do a combination of both............  I like the #3 best.  Makes sense to me.  Hmmmm.  I also know from a Bible study I took years ago, that in the ancient times, every time there was a huge disparity between the Rich and the Poor and the largest portion of the people were the very poor, watch out!  Hard times will follow......

What Flo?  No, no, just casual talk.... No soap box needed here......

I will be trying to get all the stuff done today I didn't get done yesterday plus a few more items.....  Do hope i can spend some time in the train room!

Hope you all have a great day!

Good Morning All,

Just a regular to go please. Roped into seeing why my sisters' car won't start and helping change headlights on a Pontiac Wave (Chevy Aveo to me). Then off to my friends garage to inspect said Wave as sisters Toyota has over 250,000km on it and is weary so maybe Wave is good for her. The Pontoon belongs to a friend of hers who is moving back to Germany (Frankfurt) and needs to unload the car so....... It's always something.

Der - If you like the outdoors, Keji is not to be missed. The place was almost deserted Sunday after the season and all. Trail distances vary from 1.5km to multi day hiking/camping trails.

Ken - as already mentioned, the van won't run right if the voltage is below 12v and won't run at all if it's below 9v. A tub of injector cleaner is in order as well and fresh fuel will help. The Aerostars are generally pretty good vehicles. Hopefully you won't need to jump through as many hoops to reregister a salvage vehicle as we do in Connecticut. I still haven't gotten the 2000 Focus done.

Galaxy - I feel your pain and don't begrudge you the soapbox but also feel the press may have an axe to grind. Subway is definitely minimum wage territory but I know UPS is union though I don't know if the UPS stores are also. Still I wouldn't mind trying to scrape by on $6.2 mil gross. or the $600,000 net. I'd be much happier if there were a plan in place to build up employment. Here's your soapbox back.

      Cheers to all, J.R.

CNCharlie

Good Evening,

We are supposed to get rain tomorrow and believe me it will be welcome. Not as dry as down Paul's way but close I think. Amazing to think that we had one of the wettest springs on record.

Well flooding is something that all Winnipegers know only too well. If it weren't for our floodway  we would have been goners in 1997 and this year too. In 1997 they said there would have been 10' of water downtown and covering over half of the city which has a population of 600,000. The floodway is a man made river channel that goes completely around the city with a control gate that can be used to force the water flow into the floodway channel.  It was built in 1966 and to think that the Premier was criticized at the time for spending such a large amount of money a whole 250 million.  It would cost a couple of billion to do now.

Garry, so you like cinammon rolls or buns as we call them. Me too!!  Have you tried one toasted? Put it on a grill and then butter the toasted side. Can we say heaven?  Oh and a cup of Ray's dark roast to go with it.

Did a little work on the N scale layout. I'm slowly getting the risers and cork down.  I did get an Atlas RS11 in the mail today. It is in Duluth, Winnipeg and Pacific livery. The DW&P is a CN subsidary and has been for many years so it is in CN green and yellow. I like the looks of RS11s and am glad to finally get one.

Well time to head out to the land of Nod.

CN Charlie

Good morning.  I'll just have a cinnamon bun and coffee please Flo.  You did it when you mentioned cinnamon buns, Charlie.  I love toasted cinnamon buns.  When my wife was working evenings, I would pick her up after work and on Friday nights we would stop at the Sals on Pembina at Stafford and I would always have a toasted cinnamon bun.  Yum, yum, yum.  Our daughter manages the local watering hole/restaurant in Ridgevile and the cook there makes delicious cinnamon buns fresh every day.  They're so soft and gooey that you have to eat them with a fork.

Glad to hear that work is coming along on your layout.  I wish I could say the same for mine.  Haven't done anything to it for a very long time.  Too many other things to keep me busy.  All my modelling time at the moment is devoted to scratchbuilding a structure that I saw and want on the layout.  I've got the templates drawn now and am ready to start cutting the holes for the doors and windows.  It will take a while to finish it but I'm enjoying my first attempt at scratchbuilding.  One thing I really should do is run a train on a section of track with temporary feeders and send it to my buddy in B.C.  He claims that I enjoy building the layout too much and that I will be building it up to the day I die and will never have run any trains on it.  I gotta prove him wrong.  I have to admit that building and doing scenery is my favourite thing, though.

I see it's finally raining.  I hope we get a decent amount of rain.  We need it.  It's way too late for the farmers, but the ground is so dry it's shrinking back from the sidewalks and the curbs.  Yes, our floodway has been a godsend over the years.  The premier of the time, Duff Roblin, deserves all the praise and credit he can get for standing up to the criticism of the opposition and the people for spending all that money.  I remember the 1950 flood that prompted the building of the floodway and I've got photos of it.  Never again.

I just stepped outside to take a few deep breaths of the cool rainswept air.  Oh, that feels so good!

 Good Morning!

Flo, breakfast special and a Diet Dew please.

Ray and Barna Thank you for your input on the Van. Here is what I have planed today. I will run down to Bob's and throw my battery charger on the van and set it for a 10 amp charge. Then I will do my running, first stop will be the DMV. I want to see what has to be done to get a Salvage turned in to a normal title. Then I got to get some copy's made to send in with my application for the Hardest Hit Program.

This will take a hour or so, probably closer to 2 hours. By then, if the battery is going to take a charge it will have. All so going to take some gas additive to get rid of the varnish that made have built up in the gas. See if I can get the thing to run better and hopefully drive it around the lot and see if the check engine light comes on. That way Bob can pull codes from the computer so I have a idea of what it may need to run well if anything.

Hi Gang,

another day at the STALAG went by, without any incident Smile, Wink & Grin October 6th has been set for the exams, which is a long time to go without getting bored to death. Chances for the job I had been talking about are pretty good, as I have heard, so that will help me endure this game.

Flo, mug of coffee, please!

No, Flo, no need to wake up Vinnie - I´ll be quiet now, I won´t comment on that particular politician... Whistling

Good morning all. Just wanted to pop in and say high.

Sorry I have not been around lately. Overwhelmed at w**k and home. W**k has been terrible. The carpenters third tier sub walked off the site (all 14men) because their boss was not paying them. Bringing about a crisis and a whole multitude of problems. At home MOH is becoming weaker from the treatments even though the cancer is not growing. Duties there leave me little spare time.

Ulrich - congrats on your award !

Cuda - how is the job search going ? Find anything yet ?

Galaxy - settle down a little. While I understand your frustration > I think it is time that both parties and the President stop bickering and start building towards getting us all working again. I cant stand it that the President has been busy pushing his brand of social society on us while people are starving, going with out health insurance that good jobs will provide, schools are closing etc. And the stupid republicans are busy protecting deep pockets . This is the last time I checked " one nation under God , indivisble...? They need to start acting as though we are friends and family and not enemies and stop catering to the special interest that got them their jobs. I say we send a bunch of them from both parties into the unemployment line and see if they get the message then!SoapBox

Flo ? What is that pan for .....Bang riiiinnngggggg

Lights out !

Phew where am I ?

Oh now I remember. Sorry all.

Good morning. It's 64° and mostly cloudy. The high will be 87° and the chance ofrain is 10%. The weather guesser can't decide if it will partly sunny or mostly sunny. But since when could the weatherman predict the weather much less the future.

I worked on the Model Power GP9 shell last night in an attempt to make it look better. In the end I put the old Hobbytown GP7 shell on the Model Power chassis and improved it greatly. The antique shell needed only a few small changes to make it fit. The Hobbytown drive and the Model Power drive have something in common, besides looking like toys. They're noisy! They both do the old Athearn blue box drive proud. The Hobbytown drive has a deeper tone while the Model Power drive has more tenor. The Model Power drive with the old Hobbytown shell on it puts out a loud Athearn type growl. I'll eventually put a decoder in it.

The boys at the Sundown shop have gotten their hands on a Union Pacific FP7. IT'S PATCH TIME! I hard wired a decoder into it yesterday and installed Kadee couplers. Now it's the shells turn to be assaulted.

In other DCC news I'll be putting a DCC plug on a Digitrax DZ125 decoder. Once that's done I'll it into my Atlas H24-66.

Somebody say “it’s only money?” I’ll take 20!

Good Morning!! (cough cough sniff) Coffee and some pancakes with butter and real maple syrup please. What? Now don’t tell me that. I know good and well that if you look real hard, you can find something other than artificial flavored corn products in Illinois.

(cough cough, cough....hooonk, sniff cough)

Welp, neither weather guesser was right really. It wasn’t sunny, and it didn’t rain. Let’s try again today. Areas of dense fog before 9am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 80. It is foggy though I wouldn’t call it dense, at least here. It probably is elsewhere. So far so good. And me with a sinus headache, pressure and congestion. HmmThink it’s Lupus?

(cough)

Ulrich- Congrats on the win!

(cough cough snif sniff)

Der- Well I do have to admit, right now the house could be cooler. With the sinusitis or, yes, it could be a head cold, and the coughing that comes with it, every time I cough it raises the body temps and then becomes rather warm thereby increasing the coughing. Make sense?

(cough sniff hooonk hoooonk sniff sniff cough cough hoonk sniff cough)

I’m not gonna get much done today other than w**k at the restaurant. I can’t get far away from Kleenexâ . If I do then it just runs down the back of my throat and the coughing just gets worse. I don’t have a nose. I have a faucet.

(cough cough sniff)

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!  (cough)

Good morning all.....The turntable is moving along nicely. I got home from w--k on Sunday and had most of the pit sections done. Monday morning I got the rest of it done, then set it aside to let it the plastruct set before I put the last coat of primer on. I turn my attention to the bridge I had pretty much of it done except for the arch which I,ll do later. I painted it grimy black then set it aside to dry, I next began to set the brass axels in the dolly wheels. The instuction suggest drilling a small hole in a block of wood slightly larger than the axel, I did this but found out after setting the first axel the wood started to get a dent where the wheel was. I fixed the by using a peice of srap from the kit and it worked much better, I then soldered the wiring to the dolly axels then to the bridge track. I,m powering one side of the track through the pit rail and one side from a feeler from the 1/4 brass shaft that the motor mounts to. I then primed the pit for the last time and just before I installed the pit walls I used a razor saw to score lines about 1in apart on each one after the primer dried the lines popped! and it looks just like when in the old days when they used to use 1x6,s as forms for pouring concrete! Now I said for the big test i placed the bridge in the pit and turned it around a couple of times wow! everything turned out great it moved very smooth! Smile  I am very pleased with this TT, I,m in such a good mood I,m buying breakfest for everyone in the dinerBig Smile.

This falls under the category of "Outrageous"!!

{And NOT meant as a political flame war starter, but as a "that's REDICULOUS!!"}

While some of you out there may fall into the category of those who make $250,000.00 a year or more and would be subject to the new proposed tax hike on those earning that number and above, most here I don't think are. This CONGRESSMAN CANNOT "LIVE" on $400,000.00 a year NET AFTER HE PAYS ALL HIS EXPENSES. HE OWNS a few Subway Restaurants AND UPS Stores for which he takes in OVER $6,000,000.00 {that's MILLION DOLLARS FOLKS} GROSS. He COMPLAINS he has ONLY  "$400,000.00 left over AFTER he FEEDS HIS FAMILY!"

WHAT does he spend his "left over $400,000.00 on? Certainly NOT on Jobs!. He ALREADY HAs "jobs" he pays for out of $6.3 Million Dollars.....

SOME of you out there probably own your own businesses as well, and may, Like "Joe the Plumber" {from the Obama/McCain Race 3 years ago, remember???} make over $250K a year.

I will bet this congressman doesn't pay his employees much more than minimum wage, doesn't offer them health benefits and DOESN'T offer them a "lifetime pension" like he gets as a congressman!!!

And, Oh, poor man: he has to maintain 2 homes for his job!!! One in his district, and one in D.C.

Read as it appeared on AOL sign-in menu's Huffington post from the talk show on MSNBC:

"

Rep. John Fleming (R-La.) appeared on MSNBC Monday morning to express opposition to President Barack Obama's deficit reduction plan, which includes a proposal to raise taxes on the wealthy..

Fleming charged that the plan is a terrible idea which kills jobs provided by wealthy "job creators" who pay personal income taxes. When asked about his business ventures -- including his role in a number of Subway restaurants and UPS stores -- from which he earned $6.3 million last year, Fleming told MSNBC host Chris Jansing that his business expenses left him with little to tax "by the time I feed my family."

Fleming told Jansing that the $6.3 million is "before you pay 500 employees, you pay rent, you pay equipment and food."

"The actual net income of that was a mere fraction of that amount."

“By the time I feed my family, I have maybe $400,000 left over," Fleming said.

Jansing pointed out that to a person making $40,000 or $50,000 per year, making $400,000 annually is "not exactly a sympathetic position," but Fleming responded by calling his success a "virtue" and noting that “class warfare has never created a job."

"This is all about creating jobs," Fleming said. "This is not about attacking people who make certain incomes."

"

Boy is HE out of touch with the "ordinary average American"....

THings that make you go "HHHMMM..."

Jeffrey- he hails form your neck of the woods....wouldn't you LIKE to have just 10% of his "NET" income to live on {$40,000.00}???? I would LOVE THAT!!!
SO, too, I bet would our cohorts here who WORK HARD for their $40-50K or even $70-100K!!!!

-G .

Just my thoughts, ideas, opinions and experiences. Others may vary.

 HO and N Scale.

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

3 different elementary schools, Binghamton's Mc Arthur, Owego's Elementary School and Owego's St Patrick's Catholic school have all moved children to other buildings to re-open yesterday. THese children have had eactly ONE day of school....Wed. Sept 7th, as a school day. These schools were closed Thurs. Sept. 8th due to flooding and it is unknown when students can return to their original school buildings. {Jr. High and High schools were juggled already as soon as possible to accomodate any displaced students in those schools.}

Prayers for those who need them!!!

{???? } There Is a new website set up for our area where they can match up those who need somehting done for thier flooded house wiht those who are willing to help out. The site's owner says the beauty of it is it is a site that can be used for ANY flood ANYWHERE.

Evening all.  Glad that I could make it in as things have been absolutely insane around here.  W**k has kept me extremely busy as has home life with Amy and the girls.

Ken: On the Aerostar, its either a battery problem, or it sounds like you might have a gondola load of trash in the fuel system, especially if its sat up for a while you could be running what's more like turpentine through there instead of gasoline.  I would most certainly try to get the battery charged or replaced before spending a whole heap of money on parts, but in the long run, its your choice.

Rob: On your Chevrolet truck, something else that no one has insofar mentioned is the electrical half of the ignition switch, OR the vehicle's Neutral Safety switch could be going bad.  You need to have a second person with you to perform this test, but crawl under the truck on the passenger's side (you know, where the starter is) and hook a test light up the the small wire (that'd be the wire coming from the ignition switch and running through the neutral safety switch).  Have your assistant turn the key to the "start" position.  If the test light lights, then you've definitely got starter issues.  If it doesn't light, then move over to the driver's side of the truck and check the purple wire coming out of the neutral safety switch (at least in most GM products its purple).  By the way, the Neutral Safety switch is going to be attached to the shift shaft on an automatic transmission.  Perform the above mentioned test again.  If the light lights, then you've got a wiring issue between the neutral safety switch and the starter, if it doesn't, then you don't have power coming out of the electrical half of the ignition switch.  Said switch is located on the steering column, either down the column under the dash (older trucks, up to about 1995-96) or directly behind the lock cylinder (newer trucks).  Again, hook your test light up and perform the same test one last time.....if you've got no power coming out of the switch, then you're looking at replacing the switch, if you do....then you've got a wiring issue.
Hope that helps you out on figuring out what you need to be able to do.  I also hope that your horse heals up well.

Wow....that's a whole lotta information that I spewed....makes me think I'm at w**k explaining things...oh well, I love it!

Jeff: I loved the "peggy" line, it was great!  Also, glad to hear that the BUFF's (Big Ugly Fat "Fellows", crewdog nickname for the B-52) are still doing their jobs (although they're planned to do their jobs until at least 2020...)

Welp, that's about it for me, hope that I've managed to help as much as possible.  Think I'm going to turn off to bed.  Goodnight all!

Evenin'!

Just a decaf Janie.

Chilly and wet here in the Finger Lakes at the moment, and supposed to stay THAT way all tomorrow morning at least.  Possible 1/4" tonight and about the same tomorrow morning.  Glad I got the lawn finished today.

Well (deep subject), I managed to get almost half of the "must get done today" list done today......  Did have a couple disruptions though, so I'm glad I accomplished what I did.  Spent much of the evening reading Kitchen Sink Reviews and Kitchen Faucet Reviews on line......  Yep, going to replace the completely worn out sink and faucet I put in about 22 years ago.....  'Twas an "el cheapo" and is a complete mess.  I know there are people who have come over to the house and looked at the disintegrating faucet housing and the stained and rotting sink and quietly gone... "eeeeawwww!"  I do every time I use it.  So the next item to be redone around here will be the kitchen sink...... I am going to get a bit better quality and of course THAT means more expensive one this time.  Something that should outlast me I hope!

I had hoped to do some model railroading today, but it didn't happen.  Tomorrow I hope........  Yep, tomorrow!  Hmmm, I feel a song coming on.....  Nah! Not gonna sing THAT one. Whistling

Rob, you know things are bad when you can't grow Kudzu!  Hope your horse heals up well without an infection!

Der (John), glad you got those little buggers before they could get you!  THAT could have been a nasty surprise if you had just taken the cover off and not known they were there!

Hope you all have great night!

Mint tea, please.

***Der, glad you won the battle with the wasps.

Wife helped me rip out some old fence today which we then dumped into the canyon (where the kudzu is dyingHmm). Saved all the posts for the new fence.

Discovered one of our horses has a nasty little injury on her ankle. She has no limp so hadn't noticed it before now. Will get some special stuff for it tomorrow. Already past the time we would have given her a tetanus shot.

Have a good night all.

CN Charlie

Good rainy evening Diners. It's been a while since I stood a round, so sup up lads (and lasses) Looks like there is another mess of weather brewing in the South Atlantic. Paul I wish we could send you some of this wet, glad you got a little at any rate.

JR:

Kejimkujek (or some close set of similar vowels) where we went hiking.
Very close indeed, just substitute an "i" for the final "e" in your version.  I'm told it's lovely, a very popular camping destination. We've not made it down there yet. Glad you enjoyed their trails. http://www.pc.gc.ca/pn-np/ns/kejimkujik/index.aspx

Ulrich:Bow Kudos for the recognition of your module work - well deserved! Thumbs Up

John - for the time being, I have dumped the idea of employing a highway overpass as a kind of view block and to add some drama to the module. I might revisit the issue at a later date though, but I´d rather spend the little $$ I have on building more modules instead of investing $ 60 into the Rix products highway overpass.
...indeed, I was just curious as to where it would have gone, had you put it in.Geeked

Todd: On the house temperature thing. I bundle up, as anything higher than about 68 has Kris complaining of the heat!Stick out tongue

I've just read an Alternative Medicine report about treating Migraines. The answer, according to the report (which I can forward if you PM me) is Feverfew. Website info is varied, as you would expect - but it looks hopeful.

BTW, the "Hornets" were just ordinary common or Garden (in our case back yard) wasps. Here's some body count to prove it.

No mmr for the last few days - just too many other things, including the riding mower getting sorted out, mowing until the evening dews and damps  caused the grass to clog the chute.  Now the old problem of the belt not disengaging  from the drive pulley is back; and the adjustment lever for that is at the max disengagement setting. I think that maybe the quadrant thing the control lever clicks into is worn, so the disengagement just can't happen, try as it might. I'll see if the quadrant is replaceable. Cheaper that a new riding mower, even at the price of spare parts these days.Sigh

Meeting in town tomorrow, and lunch guests Wednesday. Museum on Thursday. This has to stop!Crying

Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers continuing for all in need of Healing, Comfort, Encouragement, and Peace.Angel

Todd and JR More car questions. When and started the Aerostar today with a jumper box. Ran like death at idle and kept dieing at idle. At higher RPM's, well it was still missing out but engine was not loud. (death rattles) When I told Bob it would not idle he said he was not surprised with the battery being dead.

Question is this. Bob said till the battery has a charge the computer in the Van is not working and why it is running so badly. Now if another person told me this I would say it is Bull Caboose! While I trust Bob, still does not hurt to ask. It is a 1996 Ford Aerostar with a 4.0 V 6.

 See you later, Ken

I can answer THAT one for you Ken....  Bob is telling you the truth.  I had exactly THAT when I had a dead battery in my 2002 Dodge Dakota.  The computer has to reset to the vehicle.  Start it up and run it on a high idle for about 5 minutes or less, and pretty soon the car will start to run smooth and idle just fine.   It stopped happening just as soon as I got a new battery put in...  Was very unnerving the first time it happened though when I jumped it to start it up!  The dealer where I got it confirmed THAT was exactly the case.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, I'll have the surf and turf (med. Rare on the steak), baked potato, and a trip to the salad bar.  A nice tall glass of regular iced tea would be good to drink as well.

Got the lawn mowed today.  Ran low on battery just as I finished up the back and side lawn this morning.  Good timing as I was getting hungry for lunch anyway.  Put about a 5 hour charge on it and did the front lawn before supper tonight.  A "handyman" stopped over (used to be a Scout leader when his son's were of Scout Age) and looked at a couple small projects I need to get done.  Went over to the Value Center (Do it best) and got a new "O" ring for the oil dipstick on the log splitter and a few other things I needed.  Turns out it wasn't a bad "O" ring causing it to spew oil all over....  I think my son broke off a couple little tabs on the dipstick that hold it in place in the engine. SighGrumpy  might have happened last year out at the museum as well.  I just ordered a new one from Briggs and Stratton parts online.  Let's see $7.20 for the dipstick, $10 to get it shipped to me.....  Yep, THAT sounds about right.  Oh well, only money.

Ulrich, I meant to congratulate you on the award for your module earlier.  Very deserving!  I think your modeling is top shelf! Bow

Glad to see at least a bit of rain has fallen in parts of Texas!  Hope more comes along for all those living down there!

Later!

Heartland Division CB&Q

Galaxy is telling about the floods in his town, and it sounds very bad. It got us talking about floods elsewhere including Australia and Germany.

Yes, I have been sharing. Last night the news reported $2-3 MIllion in FEMA approved damages in Broome and Tioga Counties along with one other FEMA approved disaster counties out of 5. Tonight the total has grown to $12-13 Million for the three counties. I believe that is only for private homes. I could be wrong, but I don't think that includes business losses. The total will rise every day as more apply for FEMA help.

Sad part is the MOST anyone is eligable for personally is $33,200.00 form FEMA for loss, reconstruction, temp housing and what-not. Replacing a furnace, water heater and washer and dryer in a basement alone can cost aobut $4-5,000 alone! {on the CHEAP SIDE}

There are many homes that are condemed. We ate at Denny's and one of the regular waitresses said her home was destroyed..foundation and one wall on first floor in Vestal. She had dificulities over a dispute withthe bank much like CUDAKEN's here and so her belongings were at her mother's house, who passed away 2 weeks prior to the flood. She said she believed her mother was truely looking out for her.

The other sad part, is many couldn't GET flood insurance pre flood and after the 2006 flood as they were NOT "considered to be in a flood zone" so were denied the insurance cause they didn't flood in what was then considered the "500 year flood". WE were told the insurance would be $150/yr for where we are. But was unnecessary. We declined it at teh time as we just changed insurances and had major bills due so we didn't buy it. We still think we wouldn't have claims we would process as the cost for new insurance if we were dropped would be not worht the benefit of getting paid a claim for lost food.

We also, lost for unexplained reasons, other than the electric surge that happens when they reconnect teh power and turn on the substation again, our cordless phones and our dehumidifier. COuld be con-inkey-dink or not. That all set us back another $250.00. The cost of food last month was at $500.00 for what all I bought when teh credit card bill came in...about $200 more than we usually spend per month. fortunately gas was cheaper last month, but will be higher this month when we add in the cost of extra gas to get around and for the generator. We also bought extra food stuff not knowing they were passing out MRE's at the fir station with the dry ice and water, but we spent another $70 in emergency food at another grocery store we could get to who had power in non-spoilable food stuffs. WE also ate out a few times which we normally don't do.

Still, we ARE teh LUCK ONES. SOme lost everything or most everything in the flood!

Many years ago I lost everything in a house fire except 7 garbage bags of stuff I tried to salvage after teh fire. DOn't need to go through anything like that again. I spent teh first night in a motel that did not furnish shampoo at the time and so I washed my hair with bar soap,,,,then had NO COMB to comb my hair afterward.....had to buy one on the way to work that morning....so I am ever thankful and greatfull to have a comb {brush preferred} to comb my hair, and carry one with me always! That was when personal computer systems were $5k apiece and no internet..just barely.

SO, I DO know what it is like to loose everything.

As I said earlier, we are very lucky there were no fatalities...

ALSO RR related... MOH "won" a free trip for two roundtrip from NYC to Harrisburg aboard the "Keystone Corridor' at the Scranton Steamtown Train Fest on Labor day weekend when we went. TRAINS magazine's electronic mag updates had THREE articles about that corridor being flood damaged or delayed due to flood and needing repairs in Philly, Harrisburg and elsewhere.. MOH and I decided since we had to take the trip soon due to the contest, we would forgo it as it didn't seem possible to clearly get through.

Well, dermatologist burned {froze} 4 things off the top of my head  at this year's annual checkup today...he finds them every year to freeze off. New ones always grow. Better than skin cancer- basal cell carcinomas- I had to have removed though!!! I have learned as  a "pale face" who had bright red curly hair as a kid and a red beard til it turned gray as an adult that keeping out of the sun and sun protection in the form of good hats is a  necessary evil! I used to burn at teh slightest mention of sunshine as a kid...I loved to play with peeling skin...then that would turn into a tan...but now I don't care to have a tan!!!

well, see you in the AM!!!

Have a great night!!!

The Model Power GP9 got here in just two days, well next day almost considering on eof the days was Sunday. When they said expedited shipping they weren't kidding. It was sent out Saturday and I have it today. Now right out of the box I can see this thing is a light weight. It weighs a whole 8.4 ounces. With the exception of the vents and the low hood the shell is almost an identical copy of the old Athearn GP7 shell on my old Hobbytown chassis, wide hood and all. In fact this new shell fits almost perfectly on the Hobbytown drive. And there's a reason Model Power used the old wide hood design. In this modern day of small powerful motors the motor in this loco is huge by comparison. There's maybe 1/32nd of an inch of play between each side of the motor and the shell. It also has big flanges. Even bigger than those on the Hobbytown loco. Anybody got a pizza that needs cutting? As far as DCC is concerned, saying that this loco is anywhere near DCC Ready is like saying modern jet fighters existed in the middle ages. However there's nothing present that can get in the way of a conversion. The motor has a wired tab that touches the metal frame. This is easily bent up away from the frame thus isolating the motor. That's if I want to put a decoder in it. I do but not at this time. The decoder will be going into the Atlas H24-66.
