WEll,

my root canal gets finished tomorrow. If it fails, I will have to have the tooth pulled. The dentist says he doesn't think i need a crown on it, just a filling cap.

No longer "floating in a most peculiar way"...

Now,,where ARE those percocets...

Good Morning,

I think my GF gave me her upper respitory infection over the weekend.  So I’m taking the day off to get better and go to the doctor.  Nothing new to report other than the freighter is on the layout and the SD9’s arrived.

I see by this AM's listing of property listings a large ranch that is a foreclosure that has 3 Brs/2.5 Baths, a 2 car garage and is going cheap for the size and neighborhood. We can afford to deal with a foreclosure. Taxes are a little higher than we would like, and it has a HOA with a fee for common area and pool {which I won't use} {and we really do not want a HOA either telling us what to do and what not to do} but for the price..unbelievable..we would even offer a few bucks over asking. It is owned by B of A, which we all know Ken's sentiments towards them, but they also state a 3 business day answer, rather than a fore ever wait for an answer. THey would, I am sure be happy to see the price rounded up to a nice number too. That is assuming there is no problems with teh foundation!! We also look at another house today, but it is regular price that if it doesn't sell in 3 months we know will be marked down at least $10k.

So keep your fingers and toes crossed!

Real early Food Morning from me!

Flo, just Diet Dew for now.

Guess I went to bed to early last night, woke up around 4:00 AM. I did try to go back to sleep, but I just tossed and turned. So up at 5:00 AM.

Curt The Red 1969 Dodge Charger (one in the pictures I posted) is not the car I am having problems with. If I lost a head on it, there would be no debate on if it would be worth fixing.

I the car that has the bad head is a 1991 Dodge Daytona with a 2.5 liter 4 banger in it.  Car has around 400,000 miles on it and to be honest it is a POS. Car has more things wrong with it than it has right. If I can fix it for around $400.00 I might fix it. It get's good mileage, fun to drive and I owe nothing on it.

Well for today projects. Going to take the Town Car in for it's oil change and have the A/C charged. While I can stand driving a car with out A/C, I cannot stand driving a car that's A/C does not work well.

Next will be more yard wars, front and rear grass need to be cut again. Of course that bring back up the subject of the self propelled drive being out.

Blow Out and Todd It still seems like Greek to me. But I will give it a try. More than likely it will be easier to understand while I am playing the notes.

I will see you all later today.

Tabasco lemonade please.

Good morning. It's 72° and partly cloudy. There's a small chance of rain this morning. The high will be 94° and there's a 50% chance of thunderstorms this evening.

Well, (extremely deep subject), today I'm faced with that thing we all face once a year, my birthday. There's no telling what some of the family members have dreamed so I have to be alert, otherwise I may get Pearl harbored. No plans for today. May have to go to the auto shop later to pick up my mother's car. Took it there yesterday to have a receiver hitch installed for a power chair platform. I've told my parents already that the suspension will need some work to handle the extra weight of the platform and chair but my father (forever the cheapskate) thinks it'll work as is. I want to see his face the first time they put that chair on it and the rear of the car sits on the ground. Please let me be there!

Morning All,

At w**k again today. 60% chance of rain today. Fingers crossed. I saw something I have never seen at my house last night around 0030. As I pulled into my driveway I saw 2 mid sized pigs under the tree in the front yard. I have lived here 15 years and that was a first. I do live on the edge of a conservation area. Hopefully tomorrow I will finish installing Tortoise switches (9 left to do).

Ray- Tremendous job on the engine house.

Galaxy- Good luck with the root canal.

Jeff- Happy Birthday.

Everyone take care.

Happy Birthday, Jeff!

Happy B-Day CakeGift

Petra is sending you a little kiss (no need to blush, though)!

Good Afternoon Folks!

We are back at home. My Mom called at 11 am this morning to get a lift from the hospital, so I went there to collect her. It is good to have her home now. I hope she "behaves" and stays put for a while to give her body the rest it needs. My Dad is also happy to have her back. There was a time when we thought this would not happen anymore.

I will try to start on things where I left them last week, so maybe this weekend I´ll be able to present pics of my third module!

Blessings!

I always chuckle whenever I click "quick reply"

Good Morning!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RUNNING BEAR!!!! Happy B-Day    Cake In honor of your 51st year of roaming the face of this earth reaking havoc on the unsuspecting, I waited until today to hoist a glass of your lemonade. I put it off too long so I still have to go to Caseys and get a bottle of the premade cra...stuff, it seems we are out of Country Time. Plenty of Raspberry iced tea mix though (shakes head). Mixed right, I think Country Time is as good as any "real" lemonade I've had. Anyway, I'll let you know what I think.

Just coffee please. Thanks. Oh and get Ray a cup of Dark Roast on me for putting all that down using the proper terms. Something I can’t do and probably makes it difficult to understand what I mean. And not just in music either. Ever hear someone say, I can do it, I just can’t tell you how? Well anymore that’s me and reading music. (many other thing too. Including working on cars) You can lay the music out for a song and I can play it…Indifferent.., HA! Ok, But you know what I mean. But if you ask what is that? I can tell you what you are supposed to do, such as hold the note for so much of or for so many beats, but I cannot recall the proper terms or names any more. Like notation. Couldn’t think of what it was called until Ray used it. Of course Ray calls tablature a form of notation, which I have no doubt is actually correct, but when I usually was in conversations, “notation” was used to describe the traditional notes on a musical staff and tablature for that nifty thing we are discussing now. Kept the two easily straight for me anyway.

A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 84.

Barry- Actually, the tablature lines are arranged in the traditional low to high, bottom to top format, opposite of the way the strings are arranged on the guitar as you look at the guitar from the front. However, as you look down at it while playing, the strings are arranged in the low to high bottom to top arrangement. This makes the tablature easier to grasp for those not familiar with standard notation because they actually represent the guitar string setup as you view it from the playing position looking down. Also works for newer players who are familiar with regular notation. Designed that way on purpose? Probably. So, like regular notation, and any instrument,  the string you start on will vary from song to song depending on which ever note the song starts on and which ever position the composer or interpreter selects.

Today, I plan on staying home until I go to w**k this eve. Does that mean do nothing? Well, nooo for heaven sake. That would mean I can relax and play with my trains. Can’t have that. The Japanese beetles are settling in and that means I have to spray the Blackberry bushes so it has a comfortable margin prior to harvest, the yard needs mowed, the deck needs painted….oh. That means I do have to go into town and get another gallon of the stain.Sigh OK, so a quick trip, then back to my list.

One of these days, I’ll get that list done.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Decided to split this up in case you are not interested you can just skip this all together.

Ken- Unfortunately, the Springfield area is not known as a mecca of used or even aftermarket auto parts. The Junkyards around here usually have newer cars and crush frequently so the older stuff is harder to come by. -- I have found the Haynes series of manuals is by far the best set you can get. You can get them at auto stores usually. They are car specific, but well put together and pretty thorough. For a car that old, you may have to hit Amazon.com, or maybe E-bay. I haven’t checked.--No, the belt is not any harder than a chain to line up. IF you do change the belt, more than likely there will be a tensioner involved. Save yourself some agony and replace that with a NEW one while you are in there. Just a friendly word of advice.--No, with a book on the floor, there is no reason you couldn’t replace the belt yourself.-- I have no problem talking to you on the phone over the guitar woes. BUT do not think I am a good or even marginally good guitar player. I just tink around for my personal enjoyment and serenade the dog from time to time. I do know how to read tab, but some don’t write tab the same as others. The form you showed is not exactly as I have seen it. It seems a bit…..lacking. Actual tab has symbols for things like bends, pulloffs, vibrato, hammers, mutes. Stuff like that. Like standard notation, just different. Writing the letters B or P is like slang , so I assume the P stands for pull off. Which is why I am unsure if that does mean that because it gives no direction. Pull off what? I think what you need, is a tab for something you are familiar with. I played the tab you posted and it is just an exercise. Not a recognizable riff from a song. I will PM you a tab for the intro to Sweet Home Allabama” A song I’m sure you know and a pretty simple thing to play. Basically, an arpeggio. But it will give you a recognizable tune for you to associate with. I think you will catch on once that happens. Don't rush to the PM's it may take me a bit to figure out how to do it on the word processor so it gets to you not all out of whack. As for the phone conversation, sure no problem. This is a bad week and weekend for me, but next week we could. I will PM you my cell phone number. Not that I have any problem with any diner regulars having it, buuuut you just never know who is peeking in the windows. Could be some salesman trying to sell mattresses. We'll schedule a time so I will be home and near a guitar and a Beer

EDIT: OK, enough with filling the diner up with this massive amount of music stuff. Seems some of us (me) are trying to convert it to a guitar forum. A little ok, but I'm getting a bit carried away here. Sorry fellas.

Happy Birthday Jeffery! Cake Hope you get something you want! Gift

No A/C coolant for the Town Car. Grumpy Seems the A/C unit has never been changed over to the newer coolant and still use R-12. To change the car over to the new stuff would run $300.00, out of my prices range.

Now on to fixing the lawnmower!

Hello Everyone,

I wish to thank Howmus for the music history lesson. When he said Grout I flashed back to my college days at BSU. I read the whole book cover to cover  during 3 terms of music history. Yes I am a musician. Guitar tab? While I own a guitar I call it the house guitar and can only play at it. Not play it. It is there for my friends that can play guitar. I can read music but it is one note at a time as I am trained on violin and voice. I can play a piano and make very pretty music but reading a piano score is still one note at a time for me. But I do know where all the notes are at. I can also blow harmonica pretty well too. I love the Blues!

I spent my holiday weekend in North Central Michigan on the Clam River. My family has had a cabin there since the 50's. My grandfather built it and now we try to keep it up. This really means keeping it from sinking into the sand  and or sliding down the bank into the river. My sister was there as well. she has 2 dogs and I have 1 and they love it up there. Boris (my dog) got 3 days of no leashes and tethers. And almost as much jumping into the river as he could ever want. He is part Lab and loves the water.

One of my sisters dogs got to meet a skunk. He was not pleased with how he was greeted by the skunk. Neither was my sister. My sister had given him 2 baths of tomato juice by the time I got there Friday evening so the smell was gone. My sister was not convinced it was a skunjk because it did not smell like a skunk. I asked her if she had ever smelled a skunk  that was not road kill on a highway and she said no. I guess you never really know what one smells like until you get a greeting yourself.

My railroad is in the sceenery stage. Not having ever built a RR to this point I am learning things as I go along. I used foam board for a hill. Dry wall mud and newspaper over the top of that.

Ulrich, I can relate to what you are going through with your mother. My parents are in their 80's and mom recently lost a leg to an infection. She has had some issues coming to grips with the loss but seems to be adjusting. About a year ago they moved out of the house we were raised in to a single story ranch because she could not get up stairs anymore. At that time she pretty much stopped walking as well.

Well I hope everyone stays well. And have a round on me even though I am not a top dog.

Andy

Good afternoon. A Tabasco Raspberry Ice please.

My father and I went to town this morning to pick up my mother's car then went back home to pick up my mother to take her to the dentist. While she was stuck there my father and I went to BJ's Diner for breakfast then to the barber shop to get him clipped. From there it was back to the dentists office to pick my mother up then to the pharmacy so I could get more Silver Sulfadiazine (Silvadene generic) to continue treating the wound on my ankle. I'm still waiting word from Medicaid on whether my unloader brace has been approved or not.

Hey all. Have had only a few minutes to get quick snapshots of the thread. Been very busy at w**k. Getting ready to frame 8 units, trying to get site utilities and roads in, getting another 6 units ready to go, solving design issues, scheduling, adding lights, granite, frameless shower to an existing unit ....Dead

Jeff - Happy Birthday Happy B-Day. 39 right ? Whistling

Galaxy - good luck with the tooth. FYI- on HOAs I used to feel the same way you did until the place I used to live did away with the HOA. After they abolished that you should have seen some of the redneck stupid things people did . One fellow cut down cedar trees and used them for rails on his house. It may not have been bad if he lived in a log cabin but he lived in a rambler Blindfold. Another idiot built a tree fort in the tree in their front yard Dunce Another guy started parking a work tractor trailer on the street every one had to squeeze around to get home. Grumpy HOA are a pain. But it keeps the rednecks in check.

Stan - I am in love with THAT painting already ! Yes

Ulrich - glad to hear your mother is doing better ! How is the N scale going ?

Andy - understand about the skunk. When I was a kid we had two collies. Who usually were really intelligent dogs. However one night they tangled with a skunk. They came running to the front door barking, scratching on the door etc...when we opend the front door to see what the ruckus was about they shot by us like greased lighting into the house. I naturally dove for one of the dogs (not yet aware of their new perfume) AND BOY did that skunk get them good ! It was so strong I started yaking all over the place, while trying to drag thyem back outside Surprise

Cheers to you Jeff. Like I said, today I tried your drink. I must admit it's not what I expected. It's not as much a taste change as it is an after effect is it. Well, I didn't have Tabasco sauce because I'm not a big fan of Tabasco flavor, but what I did have was Louisianna Gold. Where that came from, I have no idea but it's good til sometime in late 2013 and having never been opened I assume it hasn't lost it's punch. It said it was made from Tabasco peppers and was made in New Iberia, so I assumed it was close to the same stuff. Tasted like Tabasco to me. Anyway, the Jalapeno was no problem. I used 20 oz bottle of lemonade and started with 4 drops (just in case) sip, then 2 more drops (sip) then 4 more. I think I'll stop there. Can't really smell it and can't really taste it much. Just a slight strange added taste. A couple seconds after the drink though, you start getting a warm feeling. Can't say I'm a big fan of it, but it's not really bad. Not bad at all. I'll probably have it again, but as much for me as for others. Laugh They see me dropping hot sauce in my lemonade, they won't be swiping it from me.

Surprised you didn't it? Louisiana gold hot sauce is made by Bruce Foods Corporation and is Louisiana Hot Sauce with attitude for those with a higher heat preference. It's considered to be the company's premier label, and comes in two varieties: Louisiana Gold Pepper Sauce and Louisiana Gold Green Sauce. Louisiana Hot Sauce is a cayenne pepper base and the Louisiana Gold Hot Sauce is a tabasco pepper base and isn't quite as hot as Tabasco Sauce.

  After Noon Folks!

Flo Beer please, thanks you. Hummm That Hits The Spot!

Well, the front and rear yards are done. Pretty much beat into the dirt.

1991 Dodge Daytona Still toying with the idea of repairing the car, don't ask me why I be stupid if I did. Fresh rebuilt head is $509.00 so that was a little cheaper then I thought. Head gasket set with new head bolts around $45.00 depending on the set I buy.

While I was looking on line for a free 2.5 liter manual I came across the latest magic goo for sealing heads. Most was around $60.00, might be worth a try. But first, back to the basic. Pull the plugs, run the compression test , I know I should have done that yesterday. If compression is OK, change out the last 2 plugs and see what happens. If there is still a miss, check the wires and the cap.

I can think of many things that could be causing the miss besides blown head gasket, cracked head, bad plugs, wires or cap. But, I still hope it is the plugs. Could have hug a valve, worn a cam loop flat, collapsed lifter or broke a valve spring.

Todd, I know you are tired of me asking you questions. But, here I go anyway. Whistling With there being no water in the oil, no oil in the water and no steam coming out the exhaust would you suspect a bad head or gasket?

Well wife is calling me to plant some flowers. When will I ever learn, stop buying them, that way I don't have to plant them! Whistling

 Later

Good afternoon.

Happy b'day, Jeff!

Not much layout progress. Attended a wake at a funeral home this morning. My sister from Michigan will arrive in a couple of hours, and we will be busy with her through the weekend.

The small amount of layout work I am doing is working on tracks for my streetcar line. I'm just beginning that project.

Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood Afternoon,

JEFF: Happy Birthday pal!

YOU GOTTA WANTA: Bud, I gotta disagree with you on the HOA. Why? Three words: Private Property Rights. HOA's are notorious for putting up rules to where a decorated vet gets "in trouble" for putting a flag pole and Old Glory in his front yard. Do I like or agree with everything my neighbors do? HELLLLLL NO! But, they bought their property, they pay taxes on it. As long as it's not a hazard to me and my property...I really don't care what they do (says the guy with a fire engine parked in his back yard...) I live in about as "redneck" of a town as you'll find in east central Iowa. One neighbor has a pen with a large white duck and a half-dozen chickens. The guy across the back alley and down one lot has race cars. The "King S***" behind me has a freakin' rottweiler THAT the city won't do anything about. Across the street from me is "white trash central." But ya know what? The guy is one of the nicest and most honorable guys I've ever met. I'm pretty sure there isn't a HOA on the planet THAT would allow him to keep his house/yard/vehicles the way he does. Nor me my fire engine, or the neighbor his winged critters. Duck guy IS in "violation of city ordinance," but, this being Clarence...the city hasn't and probably never will do anything.

All THAT said...if somebody chooses to live under the nit-picking and additional rules (and lack of freedom) of a HOA...more power to 'em. Me? I prefer my liberty, thank you very much!

GALAXY: IF you are serious about the house with the HOA, read the HOA agreement very, very, very carefully. Read every little bit of fine print. Keep it handy, refer to it often. Otherwise, you might find out one day THAT you've planted "the wrong type of flower" in your yard. You might also get a notice THAT your yard has too many dandelions in it, or THAT you don't have "the right type" of trash can, recycle bin, etc. You might decide you want to repaint your house...and find out you've chosen "the wrong color."  Again, if you or anybody else wants to live THAT way...more power to you, more power to them. I just choose not to, and can't understand why anybody would.

Wow...what's this soapbox doing here???? I'll just "nudge" it back to it's proper place in the corner now...

RAY: FANTASTIC shots of the engine house interior! I don't know if it "needs" anything else in the way of tools, supplies, etc. I don't know if it's complete. I do know it looks pretty dawggone good!!!

*sigh* FLO, bucket of coffee please 'n thank-you...I'll just slip on down to a back booth and see about writing some high school baseball up for THAT Editor. Hopefully, I won't disturb/wake Mr. DUKE...

Chris

Hi from Texas. This makes two days in a row for me to be in the coffee shop. I thought I had better give you all an up date on the fire out at my sons ranch. It did burn on to the place on the north end. fortunately the wind was light and blowing north so the fire came on the back side and was not wind driven. The fire stayed on the ground and did not get up into the trees. The forest service bull dozed a fire line through the place and really made more of a mess then the fire. It did stop the fire and now we have a road in the north end. When you get lemons make lemonade. The old house is not livable so it would not have been a big loss. John's house is in Weatherford and is along way from the fire. Today the fire crews were back in the area putting out flare ups and watching the situation very closely. Everything is so dry that it takes nothing to get a fire going again. It's going to be interesting to see how nature recovers. The fire started on the neighbors place from lighting.

Well I guess I'll head out and check the cattle.

Take care All.

Jeff- Happy Birthday. Hope your ankle isn't bugging you

Chris- I'll agree with you on HOAs If its your property and you aren't doing anything illegal, have fun pal.

Nothing new from me. My uncle's trying to get a gun store going next door and has been having problems with the county while trying to get into the township. So basically its sit back, grab the popcorn and watch the show

If you can read this... thank a teacher. If you are reading this in english... thank a veteran

When in doubt. grab a hammer.

If it moves and isn't supposed to, get a hammer

If it doesn't move and is supposed to, get a hammer

If it's broken, get a hammer

If it can't be fixed with a hammer... DUCK TAPE!

1991 Dodge Daytona Still toying with the idea of repairing the car, don't ask me why I be stupid if I did. Fresh rebuilt head is $509.00 so that was a little cheaper then I thought. Head gasket set with new head bolts around $45.00 depending on the set I buy.

Lesson I learned from my car building days - If you're putting on a rebuilt head replace the piston rings too. I didn't do that one time. I thought the rings were good enough but I did end up having to tear the engine down a month later to replace the rings after they rolled under and the compression went away. That was on a Chrysler 2.2 engine.

Sorry, Jeffrey it's late , but Happy B-Day

NOT TO WORRY - at least not about THAT house. It is about 6 foot below the rest of the crest of the hill the neighborhood is built on and on a corner lot. It gets all the run off that has enough errosion pressure to tear up driveways and roadsides on its way down..all for a mere 6 feet. Hence, it has a MAJOR water problem int he basement that created a MAJOR mold problem. TO top it off the ceiling had collapsed in parts because the roof had failed. SO the bank is only trying to get rid of it, NOT to get out of it WHAT THEY ARE OWED on it. One quick look and it was outta there. It also, for being in an expensive {at one tiem in the 50's and 60's was obviously poorly built form teh bones that WeRE exposed.

WE did look at a small and kinda cute little house that is higher than our budget, but could take our offer IF WE DECIDE TO TAKE it. THis spring we had gushing rain almost litterally every day for nearly 3 months. THey installed a sump pump to eliminate some water that had crept into the basment. Nice and dry without a dehumidifier and mold free and dry now. We did get exceptional amounts of rain so it doesn't mean there is a major fault. Even our trailer this spring, with no basment had at least a bucket full of water, sometimes more removed by our dehumidifier PER DAY just  form rising damp form the crawl space. Our agent is floating our offer verbally buy the listing agent to run by the owners and we TOTALLY DOUBT THEY WILL TAKE IT.

So on we go again.

HAve nto heard anything yet.

Spent more money on new brakes for the KIA today,. spent it like we had it to spend. *sigh*
