Jeffrey- You do, of course, realize that a "FREE Hundai" will cost you about half it's window sticker value in taxes, don't you? Even if you don't have state taxes on such give-aways, Uncle Sam will be looking at you for $$ money. Then your insurance rates will go up cuz it's new and you may have to finace those taxes, OR sell the car to pay them. If you DO sell the car to pay the taxes, you can then buy a car outright that you will own wiht the after-tax money.
I had a co-worker once who won A "free house" from Pepsico corporation {yes Pepsi}. It was a modular stored in a warehouse until the drawing. SHe was one for 5 finalists who got a "free key" top unlock the front door of the house. SHe had the winning key. They then had one year to find a lot, put in the foundation and pay the moving expenses to get teh house there and installed on the foundation AS WELL AS PAY THE TAXES on it. It ended upo costing about $150K for a "FREE" $70K house, and since it was located nowhere near where they lived and worked {no lots and no modulars allowed there} they sold it for what all it cost them and were "broke" after winning a "FREE HOUSE".
Just a word of caution....

Jeff how much are Walther kits running down your way ? Things are crazy expensive up here. The blue box stuff is $12 to $15 , the MTH box cars running $30+.
I just finished sticking together a Walthers 50' B&O waffle side boxcar. The kit was old enough that it came with horn-hook couplers.

Just in a plan *** mood today! and it not the weather!
Work Front I had 4 customers today and all 4 of them bought, in fact one couple went back to American Furniture and got a refund so they could buy from me. But even with closing all 4 deals, only had $700.00 in sales. I was not happy, but still in a fair mood. Then I went home!
Guitar Wars! When did my daughter become my keeper?
Just to refresh, I wanted a Guitar and Amp that I could leave at work for when it was slow. Wife did not want me taking the Less Paul and amp to work because we all know "People only pretend to be looking for mattress, what they are really doing is look for is Guitars to steal!" So I have taken a cheap Less Paul knock off to work. But wife did not want me to take the amp, she might want to play it so it was time for a cheap amp.
Mistake? Never buy anything from your daughter boy friend! Adam works at Guitar Center and all so has a side business repair amps.
1 I did call him at work, and asked if it was worth repairing older amps, saw a old Peavley at a pawn shop pretty cheap. Told me it would be better to buy one from him at work.
2 Went to Guitar Center and asked him which used amps would he recommend? Show me 2.
3 Picked a Line 6 amp with a tag prices of $60.00. He said give me a minute, talked with the manager and got me a prices of $45.00. Great, well so I thought.
4 Amp did not come with a owners manual and it was doing some odd stuff. So I called Adam at work with a few questions. Got the answers and I was fine.
5 Was looking on line with Shaun at Guitar Center web site (my partner sometimes at work) Shaun's Less Paul Knock off needs a new 3 way switch and we found one for $7.99. Stopped by Guitar Center and asked Adam about the switch. Only one they had is stock was $15.00, but Adam said he had one at his shop I could have for free. OK, free is good.
I hate to say this, but I know how my daughter is, she has two speeds. Sweet and Caring and Bi*ch and the shifter is broken. So I asked Adam not to say anything to Sharyon, guess who talked!
Today my wife spent the day with are loving daughter and Sue got a ear full. Then I got my share after a rotten day!
1 Dad broke the Less Paul I gave you and him for Christmas! (No that was for Shaun)
2 You and Dad are broke, why is he wasting money ($45.00) you all ready have a amp!
3 Dad is calling Adam at work and he is busy! (called 2 times, and one was because I was having issues with what he sold me while he was at work!) By the way, I never seen him or the store busy.
4 Adam didn't even make any commission on the amp! (I was going to pay the $60.00 and never asked for a discount)
5 Dad asked for money off on a switch! (I asked if he could get the $7.99 switch that was on the site, then he offered me a free one)
So, I am just tickled with today. Best part Sharyon and Adam are dropping by my work Sunday to give me my Rotten Fathers Day Present. (me being rotten not the present). Only good thing I can say about my daughters choices in men? She has yet to pick one that I cannot beat the living daylights out of. Adam head does look like a punching bag to me!
No, I won't do that and I will hold my tongue, but I told the little puke not to say anything. If there relation goes in farther him and i will have a heart to heart talk.
Now that I have that off my chest, hope you are having a better day than me.
Ulrich Hope all is well and you are on the way home. I still worry when you don't find time to drop in my friend.
See you all later.

Sure it IS a pleasure cruise to go through it. I have had 2 already and the worst pain was the following two days AFTER the day of the actual root canal. I know all about the pain meds order and have them ready to go.
Well, another wasted day, I guess we didn't do anything but sleep alot and "graze" on food.
A day of rest is good for the body and soul.
Tomorrow is laudry and shopping day.
ALSO- HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to all the dads out there tomorrow!!
Evening guys
Just got back from an ops session. Still have yet to tell my date for tomorrow what movie we are seeing. I think I'm gonna suprise her.
Anyone here know electronics pretty well? I want to make a sequential tail-light ciruit for my car. There is a kit for doing this but it's $100 (my brother has one) but I know it could be done for less with relays or something. Anyone know how to make this one work?
Ken, Could never get flywheels off new motors with that method, without bending the shafts anyways. I've heard a NWSL puller will work, but I have yet to buy (or make) one.
Vincent
Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
yougottawanta Jeff - Surprised you could post after all that steak ! By the way you always have cool pictures. How is the ankle doing ?

Evenin' folks!
Flo, I'll have the Rib Eye steak, med. rare, baked potato w/ sour cream, and a trip to salad bar tonight. Oh and a tall glass of iced tea.... thank you Ma'am!
Well (deep subject), I got the garden almost planted. Would be done except I forgot to get some Butternut Squash seed. So (a needle pulling thread) I'll buy THAT on Monday before I see the Nurse Practitioner about my blood sugar readings. Personally I think they are not bad, and have been coming down over the last month. I'll have to see where she wants to go with the treatment......
YGW, ah.... Think the squirrel and Boy Scout thingy was me......??? Who knows maybe Curt is a Boy Scout too....! If the power goes off for any amount of time around here, I get a couple neighbors at the door to see if they can borrow stuff... I have 1 three burner stove, 2 two burner stoves (one of them a 150,000 BTU Fish Cooker), and 2 single burner stoves, as well as a couple lanterns and a heater or two. The three burner is set up on the deck for the summer to use for picnics, etc. Yep I'm well "Prepared" for any old thing....
Ah, I see dinner is here....
Catch you all later!

B&O1952 Good Morning! Another beautiful day in sunny Salamanca. I just opened the doors here at the museum with Alex assisting me. Here's a shot of a couple of them: And I finished the locomotive save for the Pennsy lettering on the tender and numbering on the cab on the K4 painting: I may be able to finish it up this weekend depending on our business here. Do you offer your paintings for sale at the museum?

Rainy day. Got a little over an inch last night.
Speaking of Inch, You floatin down there? Looks of the radar you and Jerry might be reading rain in the feet and not inches.
ns3010-Happy Birthday yesterday! Congratulations on passing “the” exam. Drive safe. Sad news about your families friend. I will pray for them.
Ulrich- Good news about your Mom, and bad. I may not say it all the time, but you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
Curt- Jim’s right. We don’t find anything wrong with being a Rivet Counter. In fact, I myself, am amazed at their abilities, attention to detail and patience. And thoroughly enjoy viewing their work. I hope some day to get at least close to that level. IIRC, and I probably don’t, the subject elsewhere in the forum probably had something to do with someone being offended at the term (imagine that), and some others saying they weren’t offended. Whatever the reason, we in here concluded that there was nothing negative about the term Rivet Counter to descride the level of accuracy a person chooses to model. It's just the way the person reacts towards others who are not feeling as accurate that is obnoxious. And then the reasoning’s of my previous posting, all rolled out the Lunch Counter being called the Rivet Counter as a joke and it stuck. Can’t remember who coined the phrase. Might have been me. It does sound familiar. Doesn't matter, but it has been since I’ve been here
Ray- Tiny feet make tiny prints.
Welp, not much to do today being as how it’s stil raining a bit and it’s real muddy. Maybe later this afternoon unless it rains again (and it’s supposed to). Supposed to rain tonight too. And tomorrow….shoot the weather channel says at least until Wednesday. Good opportunity to see if my drainage system works. Would have liked to have gotten all the dirt back in first though. Say, maybe there’s something I could find to do in my basement……I wooonder.
Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Morning all.
Thanks, Jim! As for the auto-park, I have no clue. The car I used is an '05 Ford Escape, so it is not equipped. I would imagine that that feature could be disabled, but I wouldn't know.
Ray, sounds like an exciting night! I assume that the squirrel nibbled on a wire and blew itself up, and there were also casualties to your electricity. If only that poor squirrel had received some counseling, then this entire tragedy could have been prevented...
YGW, thanks! And I'm glad to hear that your wife is also doing better, and she is still in our prayers as well.
Sam, it sounds like your new job at VRE is going well. Just wondering, if Keolis hired the entire VRE crew district at the same time, then how did they determine seniority/job bidding? Was it a lottery, or was it whoever worked for a railroad the longest? Being that you came from Transit, I would imagine that you were not last on the list.
Stan, you do those paintings yourself! WOW!!!
Thanks also to Charlie, Vincent, and Rob!
I just made plans to do something with a friend (maybe more, depending on availablity). I'll just be glad to do something tonight, because being stuck home last night with a license, a car, and no one available to come rescue me was a complete bummer!
On the MRR side of life, I haven't done much, aside from weathering a gondola (its simple and nothing special, but I'm happy with it considering I've never used chalks before), some ballast (I still need to practice [and gain some more practice for] THAT), and some grass. I'll post photos in WPF.I also may have scored some Comet V passenger cars at a slightly reduced price. A guy on another forum bought seven cars (three cabs and four coaches) but was unhappy with them so he never built them. He offered them to me, but I'm broke right now, so I would have to wait a few weeks. However, there was another "bidder," so I am going to let him take his pick, and I would take what's left. We'll see what comes out of this.
Well, it's nearly noon, and I have a lot to do, so I better get out of here. Catch you guys later!

Today is "Plant the Garden" day.... Should have been done 2 weeks ago! Garden was still too muddy then.
Best finish my coffee and get moving!
Good morning. It's 79° and cloudy. The high will be 97° and it will be partly cloudy.I have only one thing to do outside the home today. That's to take my mother to the drive through at the bank. I may get some work done on the layout today. That depends on how I feel later.

Morning All,
The SIL is moving out today so I have been drafted to help move this morning. She has some people coming to help so it should be OK. We are having a OPS night at the club today and the prez asked me to come in early to help stage rolling stock so hopefully I will make it.
I completed running wire for another 10 Tortoises (20 down, 6 to go) so that should be done next week. Running the wire I have discovered a problem. I don't have a exact count yet but it looks like I need to modify the under frame for 5-6 Tortoises as the above turnout is too close to the 1x6 underneath. There is always something. I will have to figure out next week the best way to do that (read easiest). I really believed by this time I would have been through with wiring and Tortoises...not even close.
YGW-I am really glad that your wife is doing better.
Ken- sounds like a interesting time last night...except for the squirrel.
Well I have to go. prayers to everyone that needs them.

Good morning,
Jeff, it’s amazing how certified mechanics can’t think outside the box. I needed a new oil pan installed on my last truck. Mechanics wanted to pull the engine to do the work; meaning I would also have an expensive repair bill to re-connect the AC, U-joints, and radiator. I told them no, pull the front shocks, lift the truck by the frame, the front axle will drop, then replace the oil pan. They were amazed they didn’t think of it themselves.
Ray, knock on wood, I haven’t seen a mosquito yet this year. Mufffel heads have been in full force the past 2 weeks. There are so many out here in swarms they look like smoke. Soon the mayflies will be out.
Ken, do you have a link for the bear motors? You get the flywheels off let me know how you did it.

Good Morning..
It is sunny and we will be going to a high of 80F with low humidity of course....
Welp, getting ready to go od the on-call weekend stint...go to office and check up on things and then enjoy the chaos of a London downtown which will feature the London Fringe Festival, a Car-Free Weekend event, and 2 concerts...all downtown...oh...and a Children's Festival as well...so it is going to be a busy one down there....
So getting into and out of the downtown core will be kind of interesting I am sure...

Good night all.
Well, the job proceeded to keep me busy this week again! Just got caught up, and LOVE those photos of the bone yard! Wish I could pick up one of those c-130's or the Air Force Jumbo Jet! Make a mighty neat 'Mobile Apartment"!!!
Tomorrow is our company picnic... looking forward to talking to everyone (working the "Extra List" you learn to take advantage of downtime to get some rest...)
I hope to pick up some styrene sheets in the near future to start 'honing' my skills at scratch-building structures...
Anyway, I shall be in a booth, taking a nap! lol....

Trying to pull the darn flywheels off the SD 50 motor! Darn things will not budge! Twisting with vise grips and pliers and just want move! Any tips?
Time to play with the running trains.
See you all Saturday.
Hey all , sorry havent been on in a while but there have been many changes in the last several weeks. Started the new job. Working double duty trying to get up to speed on the project. Also preparing for a side job. Doing the drawings, getting qoutes etc...And the item that was taking the better part of my time was preparing for MOH birthday . We had over fifty people invited, some coming in from the other end of the state. This year the celebration was especially sweet. She was supposed to be in heaven this last Mothers day. Instead we celebrated a birthday, making plans for the future ! The last report on the cancer is that it has receded more! This new drug, Avastin, is amazing ! Expensive too. 30k a month with insurance 60k with out! TG for insurance. And this week end is my Birthday. I might buy some rolling stock to celebrate. MOH is making me my favorite for my birthday - an home made Apple Pie - So yall come on over an help yur self to a slice or two !
Joe - Happy birthday to you too
Jeff - Stake and Lobster ! Pretty funny about the Mantua , at least it is now like you said.
Galaxy - Oh jeez root canal , ouch hope that tooth gets better
Curt - Happy Anniversary Flo - set Curt and his other half up. Its on me tonight.
Gary - that crane is a hoot !
Uhlrich - very sorry to hear about your mom. Will keep you in my prayers. How are you doing ?
Hello Fellow Dinners!
Flo, what do you have that is cheap, any left overs? OK so you don't have a dollar menu, I take a then.
Work front. I am firmly in control of last places this month with only $4,000.00 in sales? Would have been 3rd from last but we voided a deal that went bad from a few months ago. Things are so bad they pulled Shaun out of the store this Saturday, Shaun is 3rd from last places. Boy I need a good weekend. Not that there is any hope for me to make any extra money this month, I just don't want to finishes in last places!
Packer Flywheels are not rubbing in the SD 50, the motor is just not what It should be. I have some replacement motors, and the old motor is coming out.
Train Front If you folks to care to look, I have a posting in the DCC section about the odd power readings I am getting from the new Bear Motors. Starting to get a sinking feeling in my stomach about them. Red Ram (fellow site member) bought 6 of them, 3 have over heated in Athearn Engines he has.
Simon All so chimed in that I was doing the testing correctly plus the bite of helpful insight.

Well, time to start some cutting and soldering.
Been working on the SGP9 some more and it's really taking on a personality now.
Evenin' again!
Flo, I'm still hungry.... How about the fried squirrel, some fresh greens, and a cup of decaf.... THAT would hit the spot.
I was outside planting pole beans tonight, using the little battery powered electric roto tiller (perfect for this job as the big one can't get into THAT space... When I heard BAM!!! Sounded like a gunshot very nearby.... Looked around and didn't see anything out of ordinary, shook my head and continued on for several minutes. When I finished planting the beans, I went inside and noticed everything was dark except for the computer screen. Thought I had the kitchen light on and the light over the desk should have been on. Then it hit me! No electric! I quick shut down the computer which was running on the backup battery, and checked around the neighborhood. Everyone was without power, and the "Oh, Oh" crowd was gathering a few houses up the street. They were all looking up at a power pole, pointing and saying... "Oh, Oh!" I grabbed a lawn chair and went to sit out in the side lawn where I could watch the festivities, when A fire truck complete with with all kinds of cool lighting effects followed by lots of Pickemup trucks with the blue lights all showed up.
See a smaller crowd was gathering across the street, I decided to mosey on over and see what what up. I figured something had to be up as the main crowd was still pointing up at the electric pole, now illuminated by flashing lights and the spotlight on the Firetruck, and saying, "Oh, Oh!" it was then I found out about the fried squirrel up on the pole next to the transformer that everyone was pointing at and saying, "Oh, Oh!" Then the conversation changed to how they were all going to survive the night without the TV.... I suggested that there was sufficient entertainment going on right here for the moment and we could probably be well entertained until the squirrel had been properly disposed of and the power back on. We then all decided THAT we had fed the local mosquitoes long enough and since the crowd of people pointing at the pole and saying, "Oh, Oh!" had started to disperse and the fire truck had done its job of lighting up the neighborhood with emergency lighting for the evening so they departed as well followed by the Pickemup trucks with the blue flashing lights inside..... I came back in my house and decided to show off for the rest of the neighbors how I am a good prepared Boy Scout Leader by lighting oil lamps and candles and other such stuff I have laying around the house and then proceeded to do some crossword puzzles in my well lit house until the Utility Trucks showed up drove around the area trying to find a fried squirrel. I watched all their flashing lights for a bit, and then the lights came back on.
What Flo? No just a normal evening here in the Finger Lakes......
Later!
