Evening All,

Just got out of the shower after cooking BBQ for 4 hours. I had that greasy feeling from the smoke. Tomorrow morning I am taking MOH and Mom out to breakfast so the grand kids can attend. We are going to Mimi's Cafe.

Tomorrow MOH says she wants to sew all day so the deck is clear for me to put together my last building which is the meat packing plant.

Garry- You have the same three structures that I will have in your picture. Thanks for the weathering info.

Rob-  I'm glad you got some help today. Don't hurt yourself fixing things up. None of us are getting any younger.

Attaboy- Fingers crossed that the divorce will be final Wednesday. Positive thoughts.

Everybody have a great night.

Jeff- I must be remembering a picture you took, possibly of a neighbors. The trailer itself was not much bigger, if at all, but looked like something very closely resembling, a construction jobsite office.  Oh well, as long as you know what your home looks like I suppose that's all that countsLaugh. I see why you went overboard on the grounding though. Metal and trees. Lightning food.

Possibly you're thinking of this trailer. It's twice the length of mine and is 41 years old.

Good afternoon, everyone.  Thought I would stop in for an RBF today.  Not much going on here.  I'm in the middle of a seven day stretch at work without a day off.  Thirtyfour hours this week, and it's supposed to be part time!  They're two people short on my job right now and the rest of us have to pick up the slack until they hire more.

Divorce is still plodding along, she's supposed to sign the final papers on Wednesday now.  We'll see if she actually does it.  Not going to hold my breath.

That's about it for now.  See you later.

Good evening gents, did a little work on the layout before heading out for the day with the wife and friends, thought I would stop by the Diner for a RBF, very warm here today.

GARRY: I was shocked to see how close the lake came to your house with all that 15" of rain you had. Luckily it stopped before it reached your MRR room and house.

Anyone seen John, Ed, Duke or Fergie lately?

Bon soir

Dick.... I heard the total raibful for 30 days of April was about 20 to 25 inches.

Here is the lake at normal height looking to the left of the flood photo I posted. The smaller tree next to the sun is mostly under water with the flood.

Strong coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please.

***Jeffrey, I like the weathered UNION PACIFIC loco. It still has the right name on it.Smile, Wink & Grin

The work crew showed up today and went to work chansawing and carting debris into manageable piles, which I have been pushing into bigger piles with the little tractor.

My wife seems depressed with thoughts of moving. Her mother suffered from that same "the grass is always greener syndrome" and I remind her that our damage is nothing compared to so many other folks who lost homes and even loved ones. Hopefully when the roofs are back on all the sheds and the barn she will feel better about it. We will have to hire out for the barn roof, as I don't think I'm up to tackling such a project. But the rest I should be able to accomplish, at a slow pace with plenty of rest periods. I also pointed out to my wife that fixing stuff is not a race and there is no deadline. We have a lot in common, but sure have different perspectives on things, if that makes sense!?!

Have a good day y'all. Cowboy Rob

Curt... Regarding the ice house.  Here you can see part of mine.

In most cases, I paint plastic kit parts before assembling them. I sprayed the white plastic parts of my ice house with flat white paint before gluing them together. After assembly I weathered with a very thin wash of earth tones and grays. (Watered down acrylics) My weathering is so thin, you can not see it very well in the picture. After the acrylics dried, I sprayed with clear flat finish. Matte spray works fine.

With you kit already assembled, I suggest next spraying with matte spray in order for the surface to be able to hold the acrylic washes.  Then use washes of acrylic paints. When dry, spray with matte spray again. It is best to use several applications of acryiic washes allowing each one to dry before doing the next.

Excuse me, is there a medical professional in the house? I seem to be leaking. It's not raining, yet I am wet. Odd the places I'm getting wet at, are covered by my hat and my armpits.

Jeff- I must be remembering a picture you took, possibly of a neighbors. Well, so far so good on the yard. Just came in to get a glass of good ol H2O. Almost time for lemonade according to the weather out there.  Scratching the last couple years of leaves and thatch I have let get out of control up and mowing with the bagger hopefully will allow the thinning spots of the yard to fill in this year. Last couple of years with Mom and all, I have just basically let the grass grow too tall then run over it with the tractor (which doesn't cut the grass fine at all. More like a rough cut mower.) and letting it just lay and build up. I may have to sprinkle some seed in several of the spots smothered out.

Best get back to it.

Jeff- That’s too bad about Nu-Comp. I have a couple of their mobile homes myself. I liked them. Speaking of Mobile homes, is that a picture of your current trailer? I thought yours looked more like a construction office trailer (don’t know how to describe it really) and sat up higher. More squared than that too.

It is indeed a picture of my current trailer. It's a 1950 25 foot Nashua, model KL. It's 61 years old this year. I bought it in 1994 and moved 16 miles from it's previous location. It was a heavy load even for a 3/4 ton truck. The inside has been retimbered, a new floor put in and the wiring brought up to above code as I knew what demands I would be putting on it. I did almost all the work myself. The inside looks like a carpenter's nightmare but it's livable. I couldn't get the seams between the roof panels to close up which resulted in some pinhole leaks, so I built a steel over-roof on top.

Good Morning!! Just coffee please. Thanks

Partly sunny, with a high near 73. Guess I’ll be outside most of the day. Maybe some layout w**k tonight. I hope. Depends on what's on the Sci Fi Channel. (I think "SyFy" is silly)

Jeff- That’s too bad about Nu-Comp. I have a couple of their mobile homes myself. I liked them. Speaking of Mobile homes, is that a picture of your current trailer? Ray- I’m sorry you had to endure current childrens television. I had to put up with it myself. Every day. All day. It still haunts me some times. No wonder our children are turning out the way they are with all these diseases and strange clothes. The cartoons are horrible. Whatever happened to Johnny Quest? Space Ghost? Looney Tunes (the real ones)? Lancelot Link Secret Chimp? Now THAT was a good show! (though not a cartoon, THAT one had it all. Action, adventure, romance, comedy, chimps dressed like people. My favorite actually.)  Those were just a few of the good ones. Hong Kong Phooey, huh? The Phooey Mobile? huh, huh? (nudge nudge)  What turns my stomach as much, if not more, than the cartoons now are the over emphasized, force acted, forced attempt at funny, goofy non cartoon kid shows on the Disney Channel. The lady who owns the Restaurant brings her children up on occasion and they watch this nauseating stuff. If you ever see something that in the title sounds something like “..(something) Life of Zack….(or Zeke)…(something)” Run. Run like the wind. Say what you have to, pay them if you must, just get out of the room fast. Worse than Saved by the Bell IMHO. Makes Joanie Loves Chachi seem like Masterpiece Theater in comparison. Definitely ain’t no Gilligans Island or Pettycoat Junction._ I like the new switch labels by the way. Very nice. They definitely look better than the old ones.

Keith- See? Have faith in the USPO. Like I said, I’ve never had a mess up I can blame on the PO that I can recall.

I’m thinking next week of possibly mailing myself somewhere as a testament.

IndyJim- I know what you mean on the water. Mom’s house has developed a knack for water showing up lately also. After all these years, as we are trying to sell it we have water seepage. Oh and don’t feel bad about the Beer, like all the food here in the Diner, it has all the taste but none of the negative effects.

(ahem) But you still have to be 21. Sorry, guys, it’s the implication we have to deal with.

Curt- I’d get a piece of styrene and practice a bit first. I would also recommend Acrylic paints as opposed to enamels until you get pretty good. They at least can be erased easily. As can powders like Jeff said. Careful on the drips. A tiny runs are all you need. A run you can see well, usually ends up looking too big. Remember, little is big in our little world.

Well, I have fooled around long enough. Waaaaay long enough. I will mow first, then….who knows.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Good Morning All!

Not much to report from the land of Buckeyes on this Derby Day Saturday..While I'm not much on horse racing I always watch the Kentucky Derby and today's race is the 137th "Run for the roses"..

Yesterday afternoon while out and about I saw the CF&E local powered by a I&O GP40.Oddily one sees more I&O locomotives on the CF&E then CF&E locos...I haven't heard that many NS trains and I suspect that has a lot to do with the floods.

I shall have a cup and look over da forum.

Have a good'un!

Mornin' everyone,

Zoe, the Eggs Benedict looks good this morning, a glass of OJ, and lots of dark roast coffee in my R&GV RR Mug.  Please and Thank You!

sfcouple

howmus,

That is a great idea you had for the fascia labels and that is exactly what I'm looking for.  What kind of spray adhesive did you use?

Wayne

Thanks Wayne!  I used Scotch Mount repositionable spray adhesive by 3M.  Made for posters and other places you want to put up paper and then be able to remove it later.  I got it at Staples a while back.

Here in the Finger Lakes it is one of those now it's sunny, now it's not, now it's sprinkling.... Ooooo now it's sunny days.  i am just about out the door to my son's house to w*rk on his woodpile for a few hours.  Catch up with you all later!

Good Afternoon,

Flo, a large RBF for me, please! Come to like that stuff ... Whistling

Galaxy - if you feel uncomfortable being, say, a little "flatulent", here is what you can do: Mix two to three tablespoons of cider vinegar into a mid size glass of water and drink it. Do this every evening for about 4 weeks and then pause for a week. The taste needs a little getting used to, but Petra and I have been doing this for years now to improve our digestion and well being. Sounds a little like magic, but people have been doing this for centuries - it works. Cider vinegar is an old, old medication for a number of little illnesses. Try it, you are not going to like it, but it helps.

Curt - I am sure everything will be OK, but I am still a little nervous about it. For a 82-year old lady, it ain´t a walk in the park.

Went upstairs into our attic to do some w*rk on the bridge module. Just a spray painting jobs to weather the rails. It should be dry in a few moments - it´s above 100 F up there. Next comes ballasting - my favorite!

Morning guys

Went up to the track last night. My best and first pass was a 9.23 at 78.2 mph, wit a .14 RT; with a little bit of a bog. Every other pass that night was really bad last night. I was spinning tires like crazy. My father and some friends watched my 4th pass and then told me that I was spinning one tire. Looks like my traction-loc is worn out. The 2nd pass I made would have been a really good race, had my traction loc been working. On that 2nd pass, I got matched up against a 99-04 Mustang GT. He ran a 9.23 at 78.2 mph.

Jim, I've had that happen before. The condesor tray on the AC unit wasn't put in right and my room got a soggy floor. Got the tray fixed, then shop vacced that area for about 20 minutes.

Ken, There's still 24 days left in this month. You should be able to turn it around.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Jeff- Once again nice job on the loco. When I get done with the layout I plan on starting to weather my freight cars. I am still very apprehensive about doing it to my locomotives because of their cost. About the only thing I have done to my cars at this point is dull coat them.

On most of the locos I use powders. If I don't like the job I can just wash it off and start over. Once I have something I like I'll spray it with Clear Flat.

Morning All,

The only thing I have going today is the club BBQ. It is supposed to be near 90 today. It rained yesterday for about 10 minutes.

The Ice House I put together yesterday is white--too white if you know what I mean. I am thinking of using diluted acrylic paint and let it run down from the roof eaves and then take a light swipe of rattle can grimy black for the steam smoke I will be using. After that I will dullcoat it. Does anyone of you have other suggestions? I am still pretty new at the weathering thing. I don't want it to look like it is getting ready to fall down, but that it has been in use for awhile.

Galaxy- Aren't families great?

Ulrich- I hope your Mother will be fine.

Jeff- Once again nice job on the loco. When I get done with the layout I plan on starting to weather my freight cars. I am still very apprehensive about doing it to my locomotives because of their cost. About the only thing I have done to my cars at this point is dull coat them.

Morning all

Still tooting, but much less.

MOH goingi over to help MIL and FIL do somethings. Strange. FIL called yesterday to ask if MOH was working Sunday {it's Mother's Day} cause MIL feels ggod enough now to go out to eat at a nearby buffet which is: handicapped assesible and theyhave a staff memeber who can stand outside out the women's restroom shoud MIL have to go {she has continence issues}. MOH said was working- even has a whole 10 hour day, and FIL did NOT ask IF I wanted to go along???? SO now I only can go IF MOH goes now? I think I'm being shunned. FOr what who knows. MOH has said FIL's gears have been slipping. I can stand outside the bloody durn door and warn ladies that theres a man in there! He also has warned us his gifts of cash that flow our way sometimes are going to be dwindling fast. FIL gave MOH a $100 bill for MOH just passed B-day, and MOH threw it back at him and said keep it!

I see where I fit in that family.

HAAAAAARUUUMPPPHHH!

Hope everyone has a g reat day!

Good morning. It's 57° and mostly sunny. The high today will be 86° and it will be cloudy with some sun showing through.

Nothing in particular on the schedule today, just whatever comes up I suppose. There are many HO Scale bushes and trees that require attention, if I ever get to them that is. Seems like any time I start something else comes up.

AARRRRGH! I ran down to the basement this morning to grab something, and when I hit the bottom landing, SQUISH! The carpet was soaking wet. Some time between 11:30 last night when I was last down there and 7:00 this morning, something dumped a bunch of water in the basement. It's in the storage area, under the stairs, and around the bottom landing where the carpet pad has been sucking it up like a sponge. What's worse is that I can find no evidence of where the water came from. Man, if there's any was I could sell this #@!! house, I'd do it gleefully.

Good news is that at least the train room didn't get wet this time (unlike the other two times I had a leak down there).

So the weekend can only get better, right? Flo, get me a Beer, and I don't even drink!

Lunchtime in Germany!

Zoe, a Barry-sized burger, fries & salad, please. And a Beer to wash it down.

Sun, sun, sun - nothing but sun! Today´s high will be at 25° C, that´s a sizzling 77 F! Too warm for the season and too dry already. We continue to be under forest fire watch.

No major plans for the rest of the day, maybe a little touch up w*rk on the bridge module. The shipment from Japan will not arrive on time; it just rests at customs, awaiting clearance. Those guys don´t work on a weekend ... Whistling

I am starting to get my gear ready for tomorrow´s trip to my parents. My Mom has to be in hospital by 10.00 hrs ion Monday morning, so we will have to leave early. I hope everything will work out just fine.

Have a good weekend!

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a decaf for me tonight.

Been a busy day, but I did get a lot done.  Finished getting materials together for the scholarship news release and got a CD of everything down to the local paper.  Finished mowing the lawn, trimmed around the trees, side of the house, and garden fence, picked up Rxs at the drug store, and then headed over to my son's house to watch the granddaughters for about an hour and a half.  The oldest served Grandpa some pizza (she putt a lot of extra cheese on it for me) and some apple juice I think.....  Both pretend of course.  Then the 2 of them ran as fast as they could around in a circle through the living room the dining room the kitchen and the hall way until they were both no longer able to run.... We also watched some completely idiotic children's TV shows that started with a sponge wearing square pants, and getting much worse as the afternoon progressed....  Anyway Grandpa survived and had quite a lot of fun!

Have been starting w*rk on a database that I will use to list who is coming to the Scholarship Dinner earlier this evening, and finally went down to the train rooms and took a few photos for the Weekend Phot fun thread.

I forget who asked, but the blood thing for me wasn't a "go and give blood" thing, although I have given just under a gallon over the years (they don't like it anymore as it contains a bunch of stuff the Doc gives me that others wouldn't want.......).  This was the once every 6 months "TAKE" thing after the obligatory 12 hour fast.  Have an appt. next Friday to see what they found that shouldn't be there......

Galaxy, glad you are doing better and not..... ah.... tooting so much!  Fiber....????  Oh, yes, I know about that.  i have fiber for breakfast, fiber for lunch, and fiber for afternoon snack....  Then I say to heck with it and eat food for supper most days. Whistling

NERM, uneventful can be good!  Believe it or not.  Uneventful can be a good day!

Oh, here is a quick shot of the new toggle signs for the fascia of the layout.  You can see I have not quite finished yet (still need to print some of them out).  They are done on glossy photo paper, cut to size, and spayed with adhesive.  They stick much better than the old labels, and are easier to read as well.

Later!

Good Evening everyone.

My Friday has been pretty uneventful, but I did trim some trees in the yard.

This weekend, is going to be buisy. My Dad and I are going to go out of town for the day (possibly to Folkston, GA- will show photos if I go)  then after that, we have to prepare a shed in our back yard for a ride to another location in the yard (that means mooving 10 rolls of insulation, several boxes of random stuff, and hauling a very large generator to the garage)   Not exactly the most fun, but I'll figure a way to have fun. After that, I got to clear some yard debries from those trees, and, if the bed isn't full, wash and wax my truck for the first time this year.

Good news for me is that I don't have any homework this weekend, so I got it easy (as far as my brain goes)

On the train front: I'm thinking about changing scales for a little while, and trying out N scale untill I can get enough space for an HO layout in my garage.  I have done a little bit of modeling with N scale, and I like how I can assemble longer trains for the mainline compaired to HO scale.  A big plus for me is that N scale has the only SD-80MAC s for realitively cheep (N scale Kato locomotives are starting to rival their HO scale counterparts price wise, adveraging about $70-$80 per diesel)

I hope to get started on that soon. Mabe I'll go surfin for a track plan, and see what I can come up with.

I'll be in the back booth for a little while.

Evening All,

Flo I would love a slice of pecan pie and a coffee please.

Today I had a enjoyable day. I put together my stockyard kit although I believe it had  the worst directions I have seen. There was just a confusing schematic and about 200+ parts. I also put together the Ice House kit I had. My DPDT switches came in so I mounted them on my control panel.

Tomorrow I am helping cook a the club BBQ. Hopefully Sunday afternoon I will put together the meat packing plant I have. Monday I need to rundown to the LHS and pickup a package of Kadee couplers and some Kadee wheelsets for the 3 stock car kits waiting to be built.

Lee- I sent you a message.

Ulrich- Your friend is in a better place and no longer feeling pain. I hope that gives you and Petra some comfort.

Jeff- Nice weathering job.

Galaxy- I'm glad you are feeling better. I had GI issues for several days after I did the procedure.

Everybody havea good night.
