Evening All,

Still pretty warm outside but just a hint of a breeze.

Actually I was thinking Strausburg PA would really be neat, but any place will be fine, after all aren't the diners more important than the location?

I did about 30 minutes of prep work on the layout. I printed a picture of the control panel, numbered the turnouts, used that as reference and numbered the back of the control panel, put up 7 cable supports and drilled 2 more 1 inch holes in fascia behind the control panel to ease routing of wires, and of course painted the holes Tuscan Red (or at least as close as I could find). I have to get a fan for under the layout, it is sweltering under it when working.

OK ... Time to decide. Where will the diner be for June? ... I suggested Nova Scotia because it is to be shipped back from Germany...... (Thanks to you know who ) ..... The Port of Halifax would be a good location. CN serves the docks there. .... Then we could tour Nova Scotia. Der John had some ideas for that. We could tour other parts of  Eastern Canada, too, while we are at it. 

Any thoughts? 

This would be a great time of year to visit Nova Scotia!  Hopefully a bit cooler than it has been in the Finger Lakes today!  Go for it!

Jeffrey wants it in Sundown.....  Not unless the air conditioners can put out a lot of coolness.  Sometime mid Winter would be good down in infernoland Jeff!

Finally!  I have finished last Falls w*rk!  Wood is stacked on the back porch.  Tomorrow I hope to sweep the driveway and collect all the little pieces.  Then people could actually park there again.  Still waiting for some items I have on order to arrive like the new key for the mower.  Hope it arrives before the next round of mowing.....  Also have a few items on order from Caboose Hobbies to use in the engine house

Just recovering from a nasty virus.  Ended up needing a complete re image of my hard drive back to factory spec and then the inevitable rebuild of all my applications and files.  Thankfully I take pretty good precautions when it comes to backing up, so nothing of significance lost.  Still it is a pain in the rear end and time consuming to get things back to how I like them.  

This particular Trojan defeated my normally secure protection.  It came from an infected blog posting site.  In other-words it is my fault for not practicing better Net hygiene. (Following some random link off of a BING search result and then clicking "Yes" to a question asking about running a program is a real dumb thing to do)     It had one real nasty feature, where it "hid" all my files and programs.  It is a bit of a shock to click on "All programs" and get  the message [empty]!

To head of inevitable responses.  I don't want an Apple, I can't use it for my business applications.  Having used both, I now much prefer IE8 over FireFox and have not even bothered to reload FireFox on the newly imaged drive.

Jeffrey- I liked Night in the Museum even though I'm not a big Ben Stiller fan. Also, if you like the first one, try the second one (can't think of the name, but you'll recognize it if you see it). Not often a part two do I enjoy, but I liked that one also. If you don't like the first one, I probably wouldn't waste my time on the second. (though I think it isa bit better)

WAIT! Don't listen to Chuck. He's from Texas and most people North of the Motherland like their BBQ sauce a bit sweeter than he would. Probably tasted great.  Myself, I like 'em both ways. Sweet for pork, not sweet for beef. But won't bat an eye if it's switched. Even like some Carolina's as l;ong as it's not too vinegary.

Afternoon folks!

Flo, just a glass of Cherribundi Skinny right now.  I'll go sit at the Rivet Counter for a while near the Air Conditioner....

Hot!  'tis hot here in the Finger Lakes today!  Just hit the 90°F mark.  I did a bunch of weeding in the asparagus patch late morning.. Was hot then as well, but tolerable.  After lunch I started moving the last of the firewood from the side driveway to the back porch.  This is the stuff that I never got moved last fall.... Sometimes I tend to be a little late getting things done.  Did 3 wheelbarrows full so far and decided to come in a sit for a bit.

Got a call early afternoon from an dear old teacher friend whom we affectionately call "Ma".  Real name is Mable.  She was letting me know that a gentleman who the librarian at the Middle School back when I first came to Geneva died yesterday.  Obit is in the paper tonight here.  He was 85.

Think I'll head back out and do another load of firewood....

just a short stopover before i call it a day. I was busy all day long with various exercises and check-ups. All is fine and I actually start to feel the improvement. No doubt about going home on Thursday

HI guys,

    It's back to the old grind again and it looks like another week without rain again. Had a great memorial day yesterday. After mounting Ol' glory to the porch, I threw a beef briscuit on the pit, smoked it for 7 hours,  and it turned out fantastic! The bar-b-que sauce was a bit too sweet but it wasn't too bad. The TV had some good war movies on so while I watched the movies and throw wood on the pit all day, I also got to make a plaster pour into a home made jig for some scratch built tunnel portals.  Maybe next weekend i'll get to work on the trains so I can get another scene finished. How was ya'lls Memorial day?.....chuck

Zoe, I'll have a breakfast bagel w/cheese this morning along with a pot of dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR mug.  Please and thank you Ma'am.

This morning I feel a bit like a mosquito in a nudist colony....  Know what I need to do, but can't decide where to start!  Already 81°F outside on its way up to 89°F (I'm betting it will get to 90°) later today.  I have a bunch of outside projects needing to be done before I plant the garden, and there are a number in inside type projects to get done as well.  Maybe I'll just sit here at the computer and not get anything done.......

Ulrich, hope you are continuing to heal and get stronger by the hour!

Jeffrey, I hear you about the ringing in the ears....  (Well actually I don't hear you at all...  You know what I mean.)  Deafness is quite noisy as a matter of fact.  Hold on, have to answer the phone.... Hmmm.  just a dial tone?  Wait, somebody is at the door, be right back.   Wonder where they went so quick?  bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....  A bee in here?  must be hiding!  I have those sounds constantly.  My hearing aids help lessen the noise, but it is always there.  Getting what appears to be a 60 Hz hum at the moment.....  Now, If somebody would just get rid of that guy with the chain saw THAT comes around every night...........

Curt, thank for the kind words on the Engine House.  I hope to have it in judgable form before the end of July (The NMRA Division picnic).

Good morning. It's 74° and cloudy. The high will be 91°  and it will be mostly sunny. The chance of rain is practically nonexistent.

Nothing planned for today except to stay off my feet as much as possible. My train wreck of an ankle is still causing me quite a bit of pain after the workout it got Sunday. The ringing in my ears is running through alternating tones from high pitch to low pitch and back to high. I watched a documentary this morning on the history 4-4-0 American Standard locomotive. Now it's time for something with a bit more humor. Night at the museum looks like good choice as I've never seen it before.

At w**k, day 2 of 3. At least today is my short day. No rain scheduled with a temp of 92 F today. I asked my son to mow the yard (riding type) yesterday but  he said it sounded really bad and was blowing black smoke. There were no issues last week.

Ulrich- Glad you are doing well. I know you are looking forward to Thursday.

Good Morning!! Coffee and the #3 breakfast special please. Thanks. Good thing about the old number 3 is it comes as it comes. No decisions after you decide to have it. I guess that’s a decision.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 89. I guess sunny and dry all wek made it until…today. 30 to 40 % chance, depending on what source you use.

Ray- Apparently you haven’t seen the cobwebs in our house.

Ulrich- Don’t worry. I ain’t never seen a nurse looks like that over here either.

Star Trek? Count me in too. Well, kinda. I liked the old TV show still the best. (call me old fashioned) The the Star Trek movies with Kirk and crew. I never really could get into the other movies or shows. Maybe because, for me now, it was kind like I was watching Starsky and Hutch without Starsky and Hutch. Or that season of the Dukes of Hazard without Bo an Luke. Not taking anything away from those, I have seen and enjoyed a few, but just not Star Trek to me.

Looks like Flip stuck his head in but didn’t say anything. Probably just to peek at the nurse.

Galaxy- THAT’S what I was going to say before! I was told the same thing at our Walmart that Lee was told. IF you ask, an employee will place your bags in the cart from the whirligig (which, granted, they will do from time to time anyway if they are waiting to switch cashiers) and/or wait for your car and put them in. This is, I guess, for all purchases not just groceries I think.   

Lee- I have made that very same decree several times including this weekend last and I will again this coming weekend. Unfortunately, my loyal subject does not recognize the holiday as legal.

Today, will be a miscellaneous HD day. I need to mow my own yard, work on the tractor, put the groceries away at the restaurant, get the pressure washer ready, clean the grates of the grill, remove the scale rust from the burners (six cast iron ones, but I can order brass (or bronze?) replacements. No more derusting!), um…let’s see… put a computer back together for the boy, scratch the dog, empty the cab of my truck at least so the landslide stops coming down on me, fix Brenda’s car (she always throws that one in there so it's a gimme), clean the shed up so we can walk in there, wash the back porch, paint the same porch, clean some unwanted bushes from the wanted ones..... before work tonight at 5. Ooops sorry, excuse my language…w**k. THAT’s my HD list for just today because it's a short day for me. Tomorrow, she says I need to get back out to Mom's house and finish up the outside yard.

Retired they say. Enjoy it they say. Hey, at least I can lay around in the shade sipping lemonade til supper time. Or, so they say.

Remember the list, I’ll check in tomorrow to let you know how much I got done.

I have decreed next weekend to be model railroad weekend at my house.  The last 30 days I have been replacing toilets, gutters, shingles, plumbing, repairing computers, and yard work and now it’s my turn….

Every plan is a good plan until first contact with the enemy…

Jeff, if it’s any consultation to you; in NE Ohio the first ticket for parking in a handicap spot is $300, the second ticket is $500, the third ticket is $1000, and the fourth time your car is towed and I’ve heard some people have lost their driving privileges (except for going to court or to work) for up to 90 days.  The police love to write tickets for this.  Maybe the only other thing they love is loud music from cars; first offense is a warning, second offense they remove the offensive equipment from your car (with bolt cutters) and hold it for evidence in your court case. OBTW, SyFI channel had non-stop Star Trek this weekend not sure if you get that channel…

Galaxy, my brother works for WalMart, if a patron asks the check out for assistance they will hold your cart at the door, you pull up and they load your car for you.

Ray, very interesting.  I may use that information to power my dwarf signals.  I scratch built dwarf and block signals.  The dwarfs will indicate turnout position.

Ulrich- congrats on going home. Around here, even with Federal Insurance {Medicare} as primary and State insurance {medicaid} as secondary to pick up what the Feds don't cover, I can still get a private room. Back when I had pneumonia 3 yrs ago I thought maybe they put me in a private room as they at first weren't sure it was pneumonia {I ended up with a viral infection, a fungal infection and a bacterial infection as two sought to be "opportunistic infections" setting in as my poor immune system fought off the primary infection. I had 4 types of antibiotics at all hours of the day and night.}. But the hospital is now made up mostly private rooms as more and more proceedures are done on a day-surgery basis {or ambulatory surgery}. You go home when you have your proceedure and it is over the same day. ONly for things like bipass surgeries, etc. will they chek you in. SO they don't cram as many people in as they can anymore.

Well, I have some things to do today and see the psychiatrist tonight. MAybe clean off the porch this am while it is before the garbage man coming. If I find anything to thorw out, I can do it with the intention of it going out in todays garbage. HAve to do it like NOW as it is going to be a scorcher today in the 90's!

Have some friends coming over for a good old fashioned BBQ Sat. so need to kinda clean up the place and the enclosed porch gets real hot quickly!

Well, we have our first heat advisory of the season today. Going up to 84F with the humidity at 75%..makes it feel like 107F....yay

Have to pay some bills today as well as get a few grocery like things done..then it will be get some more running around done later on....dang car repairs

 Speaking of new engines. Can anyone help me ID this engine? Jeffery, I know you know a lot about Blue Box Engines, can you help? I really should not be thinking about messing with this one, I have way newer engines I should work on. But I have a OLD Athearn Blue Box Delaware & Hudson PA and I love the Colors. I am guessing it is from the 60's or 70's (Hum, I am old, the 70's don't seem that long ago to me ) Side frames are metal, wheels are steel, worm gear cover is 2 pieces, coupler pockets are on the trucks and front truck has the headlight mounting is in the trucks frame?

 I like to get her running again, I have motors and I think the need drive shafts. But, I am afraid I will build a decoder eater. Gears are full or dried hard grease, I think I need to pull the bottom truck plates then the side frame to get to the gears for cleaning. I have never seen a engine quite like this one.

Sounds like a loco from the late 60's, early 70's. The metal trucks sound about right. Athearn was still selling the PA's in the 80's but they had plastic truck side frames and sintered iron wheels.
