Raining here in NC,been running the MTH SD70M2's today and changed out two tri levels for two bi levels and working some on thie new layout,so this year i hope to get me a walk around cause this new layout is a stand up RR compared to the old one i could just set down and run trains,so Happy New Year.

Just back from a nice and entertaining dinner with the folks I prepared the business plan for. We went to a Greek restaurant, so that´s where this odd smell is coming from.
Driving home was pretty bad - the roads are all iced up.
I see new faces here - a big from this end of the Big Pond!
Janie, I´ll have a hot chococcolate with some of the stuff Ray´s son has put into his eggnog, please.
Time to hit the hay!
Once again, Happy New Year everyone. Just finished our annual New Year's Day dinner of mashed potatoes, sauerkraut, pork roast and kielbasa. All accompanied with a bottle of riesling from Prejean's, a winery on Seneca Lake, just down the road from Ray's. There's just no better way to start the year off.

Good Evening
Well, after spending the afternoon in the trainroom I'm out here in the kitchen with the laptop being snugged up to by the little Spring...
It's been a quiet day up here..I ended up looking at some train sites for a few photos of main street prairie type towns to get a little more...er...prototypical looking town sites...heeheehee
Chloe, I'll have a pork sammich with a bottle of that reisling tc was talking about please...I'll be at the window booth for a bit...

Does anyone understand there wife's besides they are all wise right?
Flo a please.
Tonight I was on You Tube and came across this video and I was truly impressed by the guitar player.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxFJ44gPE3M&feature=fvst
I went and got my wife (Sue) so she could see the video. We started have a good time looking up videos of songs we like and guitar cords. (she started me playing)
Then she started reminding me about a small bar down the street that has life bands, you can smoke there (Todd don't tell the state!) and if I want a beer she would drive home.
Now here is where I became confused.
1 She won't drive at night period! OK the bar is only 2.1 miles from us so maybe she would.
2 While I have have a kick$1***$2audiophile system at 600 watts a side, it is nothing compared to a live band! She started complain that the musics was to loud at 3/4 of the way up?
3 Bar she want's to go even with it being against the law allows smoking. Yet as soon as I light up a cigarette she starts to complain?
So as a recap.
She hates loud music
Hates Smoke
Hates driving at night
She is mad because I won't go to a bar where
Smoking is allowed
Music will be loud
She have to drive at night.
I just don't understand it? Whole reason the mono blocked stereo system is in the garage in the first places is because I as not allowed to crank it in the house?
Just confused again, Cuda Ken

Happy New Year, y'all. Frozen here, so do they have hot coffee in this place? I was supposed to run trains and go to a party last night but below zero temps and icy roads kept us within 5 miles of the house.
Well, 2010 got me back into trains, but I've just been playing on my shelves and working at the club. 2011 is going to bring an actual layout into my home office - that's MY resolution.

Good Evening All,
A belated Happy New Year to all and welcome to our new diners. Easy couple of days and nice weather today to top it off. Went to South Norwalk and the Maritime Aquarium with the CFO just for a break from the routine today. Saw the penguins and sharks had a nice lunch around the corner from the aquarium and got home with time to get back after the basement. Got the back wall studded and foamed so I can start on sheet rock tomorrow with any luck. Still have the inner walls to do along with a ceiling but this is a great step forward to actually having a train room. It's just over a year now since we got back into the house and though it's still not finished we've gotten a lot done to complete it.
Time to get some shuteye. I'll catch y'all tomorrow. J.R.
Evening all.
Hope you all had a great first day of 2011.
I was at my great aunt's house for New Year's today. I got some money for late Christmas presents, so I'm gonna go ask my parents if we can stop by the LHS on our way back home tomorrow.
to The Diner, other Joe!
Well, I should start working my way back into my regular routine since school starts back up on Monday, so I'm gonna head out for tonight. I'll catch you guys tomorrow.

Problem is there were two tumors one on the right side, one on the left. The right side one came out last Oct. Left side will come out this new month and year. Problem is right side tumor removal showed no improvemnt, so I'm not holding out much hope on the left side either.

Spent much of the day down at my parents place. After the new years meal my sister and niece tied into the kitchen to clear the clutter out while my mother sat and watched it happen. Anytime you can get free help take advantage of it. They were finding stuff in there that I hadn't seen in many years! One example is a pressure cooker that's older than I am. Still has all the parts. Here's another example. A Dazey Seal-A-Meal vacuum packager Model SAM 1, complete, still in the box. Bought new when Jimmy Carter was president. They pulled out cast iron cookware that collectors would happily kill for. The cabinets are so deep that when just two of them were cleared out the kitchen looked like two rows in a warehouse! After four hours they got a sixth of the cabinets cleared and haven't EVEN hit the big stuff yet. That kitchen is huge! I could park my trailer in it and you could get around it.

Went over to my son's house tonight. His MIL made an "out of this World" Roast Pork Tenderloin dinner for the whole family..... That would be the 5 of them, her Brother and his girlfriend, and her two other kids and their families..... Crowded table. Then we sat down to a very long game of dominoes with dessert served when we took a time out from the game. I won BTW..... Didn't get home until about an hour ago.... Dealt with a couple important emails, and now just unwinding before bed.
Barry, the guitar should handle and play just fine. I think it was Les Paul that once made a working guitar out of a pine 2x4....
Ken, 1200 watts of stereo???? 3/4 the way open and your wife complains? if I lived in your neighborhood I would called the cops by 3/4 the way open...... Oh yeah, My little system I used for sound reinforcement for groups was a JBL Pro series, top of the line tri-amped sweetheart of a system. 3200w at 4Ω.... And it was small compared to what some are using. Have you had your hearing checked lately? Huh? What? Can't hear you! I'm down to about 20% of normal hearing in both ears. On one of my Mackie Mixers, in the manual warns that the level produced is very hot in the headphone jacks..... Then they tell you, "Deaf Sound Techs have short careers!" My studio Near Field Monitor system is all of 100w and can blow me out of the house... Speakers are Alesis Monitor One MK2s. I was using a pair of Tannoy Near Field Monitors for several years. They will someday see duty down stairs in the train room.
Galaxy, I hope that the removal of the other tumor will help the pain. It may......

Good second morning of 2011,
Ken, when you figure that out you will have unraveled the greatest mystery of the universe.
My girlfriend and I celebrated the New Year with a bottle of cheer and watched the ball drop on the TV in my living room. Nothing fancy, but fairly safe.
I finally installed a drawbar and new couplers on my Proto 2000 F3 AB unit and did some switching on the layout. I might break out the 70 tonner and work in the yard today cleaning track and moving cars.
I tried to figure out what went wrong on the mainline cross over turnouts but still nothing has come to mind on how to fix it…

Sometimes I am amazed at other interest we have in common besides trains! More than a few of us here have old HP cars, play guitar and now fellow Audiophile to boot.
Ray The reason I have the Monon Blocks amps is because of the speakers I run. They are Dahlquist DQ 10's. They are very hard to drive, the mid range and tweeters are free standing, no enclosure. Only the woofer is encased. They spend a lot of time in the 2 ohm range and with only 200 watts a side they sound good. At 600 watts it sound like the band is in the garage, but no where as loud as you would think.
There strong suite is sound stage. When placed right (which they are not now with the railroad) you can pick out where the instruments are placed on the sound stage.
Amps them self are Adcom GFA-555 bridge mono block to get the 600 watts. Preamp is a Carver 4000 T, sub is a NTH SA-1with it own free standing amp, Adcom GCD-575 CD player, Adcom GFT-1A tuner and a Yamaha K-700 tape deck. I was going to go RTR till I got the Yamaha tape deck, there is no hiss at all!
Here is a picture of one of the amps and DQ 10 speaker.
.
The system is all so my computer speakers as well. Real fun when playing computer games.
Far as my hearing, open headers did that in more than the stereo, might be one of the reasons I like the music as loud as I do.
Train Front Planning to going to K-10 Model Trains today with Simon and his boys. It is a great layout, but I rather watch the trains than run one. To much work chasing my train around the layout.
Think I am going to tie into my PK 2000 E-7 with sound today. With the sound down I hear a whining sound that sounds like the motor needs oiling. Bad part is the motor is fully encased with weights. Will pretty much have to strip it to a bare frame.
See you all later.

Ken: The system I have here is rather small compared to yours. We have a pair of home built monos with 300B tubes...all of 100 watts...using EPI 100 watt monitor speakers...they be plenty loud enough for this house...At one time I had a MacIntosh amp running a pair of Klipsch corner speakers...
BTW...did you do the open header thing in a metal driveshed? I love the Impulse Responses that gives...
Ray: According to one fellow on a music forum I'm part of he had something quite similar done using his younger bros lego blocks...it sounded quite good There is one guy up here is making one using cedar plank...

Good Morning..
We got some dull dull dull with snowflurries this morning...with our high at 20F ---slight change from...oh...56F yesterday...
We are all up and getting some things picked up for the church pantry this morning...a bunch of stores donated some food stuffs and other essentials...pet food anyone?...to the church...we'll be out and about this morning...
Later on today I'll be in the trainroom getting some stuff together to see if i can overcome my fuzziness pictures...and actually get something up by next weekend...
Flo, I'll have some coffee and a breakfast bagel please...I'll be at the RC for awhile here
Good morning. We went from 50 degrees to low 30's. I guess old man winter is back.
Not much planned today. Watch some football, and maybe later work on a train car. Not a very busy day for me.
Have a good morning everybody.
"Rust, whats not to love?"
Morning guys,
finally got 3 loads of laundry done yesterday. AND the sleepy factor fo the muscle relaxe Seems to be decreasing some. Need to ge tthe kitchen cleaned and dishwasher run today that is my goal.
It's not that I've been putting off chores, but when I take the muscle relaxer 3 times a day and sleep for 4 hours afterwards each dose....
MOH was getting itchy about the chores I was {not} neglecting. It is my job to keep house, as MOH works outside the home. I actually often have the higher income on my SSD, but it is my job to keep house. MOH understands my medical problems and bad back issues, and the reaction to the muscle relaxer, but hates to come home from work and have to do chores to. so I have to stay one step ahead and try to keep up.
The only thing I do that isn't a chore is check here and a few other forums for about an hour a day. and some chores, like runing laundry or the dishwasher after laoded, I can be free to be on here for awhile.
WEll I am sure i have bored those who actually read these things...
BTW curious.....WHo all reads all the posts on this thread, or do you skip and read only "friends threads?" I try to read them all, but the longer winded they are, I tend to start skimming and see what I may want to comment to. Otherswise it's just interesting to see what is going on in others lives, good or bad or indifferent.
Well, ahve a great day.
I'll have a coffee and pancakes with bacon please.

Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll wait til later to grab some breakfast... just a cup of dark roast coffee right now.
I woke up around 9:00 this morning and went down the hall to use the little room. Came back into the bedroom to find Manét had thrown up all over the bed..... I have THAT cleaned up and the sheets ready to go to the laundry today (may get some more done in the train room). He was giving me that "I don't feel good Daddy" look. Sorry if I spoiled your breakfast here....
Ken, I was assuming your amps are rated at 8Ω? THAT is still a massive amount of power for a small space. At 8Ω my front end system would have only been 1600w. At one time there were 3 different people doing pro sound here in Geneva. One of them is a major player on the East Coast, Greg Bennett, aka: Moondog Sound. Most of his gigs run 8,000w at 4Ω of amps. Way back when, Geneva used to have a weekend festival down at the lakefront called "The Whale Watch". All 3 of us had stages down there for the weekend. Moondog Sound did the "Atlantic Stage" where the Name Bands that were hired for the concerts were. They were most evening gigs. Another guy (From the College) had the Pacific Stage that was for daytime stuff involving local bands, and I had the Community Stage for Schools, Churches, Dance Groups, and Kid programs. If all of us had been running at the same time we would have been blowing more than 16,000 watts of power into peoples ears if we were wide open..... I live 2.5 miles from the area that was used for the festival. When the Pacific Stage cranked up at night, I could hear the groups quite clearly while sitting on my deck at the house......
My ears got damaged early in life as a farm boy driving tractors all day with any mufflers. During my career as a Music Teacher, I was often told by other faculty to "turn it down" in my classroom. I thought they just didn't like good music.... At the same time I couldn't help but notice how people (especially little kids) mumble these days.... I finally took a friends advise and had my hearing tested...... Then I turned it down big time. My point is that you may think it sounds great, but you are continuing to lose your hearing if you are playing anything with that much power in a small space. I have the phone ringers here at my house turned up as far as they go. Without my hearing aids I can be 2' away from a phone and not hear it ring..... It's not fun to be deaf.... BTW, just to remind you. 1200w at8Ω is 2400w at4Ω is 4800w more or less at 2Ω....... All THAT said it isn't amps that cause deafness, it is decibels of sound hitting your ears.... I can run a monster sound system at a level That won't cause hearing problems, but most people would complain! Opps, I see somebody bringing the over. OK, I'll be quiet!

I hope to maintain what hearing I have as long as I have. When I was a teen, I used to listen to my rock-n-roll and even country and pop music with my headphones on and LOUD so I wouldn't disturb others. Then I would have it loud in the car by myself or with friends.
NOw, we rarely listen to the radio in the car. If we do, we listen at a very low level. DOctors or dentist's office low. Occasionally we will turn up the TV if I am cooking something in the next room kitchen or listening to TV news from the next room computer room. WE mute during commercials.
I think MOH has a bit of a hearing problem as MOH seems to put the TV louder than I do as a rule. MOH says I mumble a lot, and while I am soft spoken, I don't think MOH hears all I say, sometimes I feel like I have to shout to be heard.
Hearing and sight are two very important senses to take care of, I hope, Ray that you maintain enough hearing with your hearing aids to keep your dirver's license! TO loose both would be devastating to me!
Good Morning! Dark Roast coffee and some eggs over easy on hash browns please. Don’t forget the salsa too thank you. Oh, I see you’ve put our favorite brands on the tables.
Colorado Mac and HOn30critter
I put up yet another part of the bench work frame yesterday between commercials and episodes of NCIS (favorite show) I'd seen too many times. I now just have the final straight section, (tad over 4ft X 18inches which I will do today, and the support for the inside curved corners, that I will build when I get the plywood to cover. You know, build the supports to match the surface. I really didn’t want to do it this way, but after I started it, running a train has not been possible. So, I have to complete the bench work of this the first half of the world, so I can complete the loop. Problem is, I have to deal with the duck under now, as opposed to later. I know, I know, but with the wants, needs and available room space, I (tightens lips and kinda bobs head tilting side to side) kinda don't have a choice.
Ken- Your wife’s logic? Sounds like she’s normal to me. I wouldn’t worry about her. She’s fine.
Barry- Like Ray said, probably will play well providing he used the proper glue . Don’t forget Leo Fender made a guitar out of a flat slab of I forget what type wood originally, to become one of the iconic guitars of all time. The Telecaster. There are a couple guitar manufacturers that make guitars out of plexiglass and isn’t Parker the one who has a fiberglass or something like neck?
Galaxy- I read all the posts. Well, I’ll admit if for some reason, like last month, things get so hectic that I don’t get in but once a week, the posts build up and the time available sorta forces me to skim, but I skim all posts, not just a few. My issue is I don’t often look at the who posted block AND occasionally I’ll get confused as to who said what. Usually I can tell but what the say but sometimes I think it’s someone it’s not. But yes most times I read all posts and in their entirety. (boy, I didn’t expect that to be spelled right being as how I pronounce it entire-a-tee)I hope that’s not Forum rude. I figure some things are still interesting and I may have something to add. I figured if it was meant to be just between two or three, they’d use the “conversations” thing.
BUT, however, I do NOT expect people to read all my babblings. Even if I address them. I realize I get a bit lengthy and there are more important things are in peoples lives for THAT! But, if you're bored and just killing time or are juuust not sleepy enough and need that little bit to kick you into la-la-land. TA-DA!!!! read away. That's what I'm here for. (actually people have responded to things that I admit I think, gee, they made it all the way to ther? I think even I would have gave up by then! )
Gee, my little 30w FenderCyber Deluxe gee-tar amp isn’t even worth mentioning. Still, plenty loud for me, and loud enough for what I use it for. Anything that needs larger would probably be run through a sound board and through sound system speakers anyway so they’d be supplying the volume, I’d be supplying the tone. You know, considering a 100w amp is really just twice as loud as a 10w practice amp, (which really is pleeenty loud for a bedroom or playing by one self) and I know just how loud the 30w amp is in a small area, and I recall a friend who had a 100w Marshall half stack back in the 80’s so I remember how loud that was in a garage, and I have had my fair share of open headers and straight pipes, (it’s the Harley’s that really hurt ) I just don’t see how you could set in the same room with that beast Ken. WOW!
Welp, heading to the basement. There’s some 1X4’s calling my name. I may have to go to town to get some OSB and some pink (or blue) 2” foam. Maybe today, maybe tomorrow. Depends.
Y’all have a Great Day now ya hear?!!!

The high will be 56 and it will be mostly sunny.Today I'm stripping some thick coats of spray paint from an outside braced gondola. I got off all I could with the alcohol bath. Now it's time to go over it a soft polishing wheel in the Dremel. I'll have to be careful though as the wheel can remove plastic just as easily as it removes paint.

All this talk of New year meals reminds me of one that was posted some years ago by "Dave"...anyone remember which Dave he was? Here's his NYM. by way of memory jogger. Perhaps this will lure him back in! (Wrote that before Dave posted on Page 3 - not you from another life is it Dave?)
Kris found some lamb's kidney when we in the City on Friday - so last night we had a "Proper English Grill" except it was done in a frying pan and we didn't have the lamb chops to really do it up right! "English Style" Bangers; kidney; bacon; baked beans; fried egg (ssu) fried mashed potatoes; hot mustard and brown sauce - apart from a small piece of zucchini, not a veggie in sight- today's lunch was the steak and kidney stew for which she had bought the kidney in the first place - with a very drinkable Chilean red wine that was a Christmas present from our New Glasgow friends.

I've done a complete re-build on the legs of that smaller silo - the originals having warped with the Plastic Weld. Much straighter and more accurate. Have to throw some undercoat on it, and then a finishing spay with the zinc-look. Must Google around for a sign to make a decal from - that would finish this job off if I can get an even half convincing result with "Decal It". Way past Tea Time now, better get on with things...Darn it Chris, I look at a loco now and all I see is NO MU STANDS...I can't 'stand it'...Arhgg! .TTFN.
