Lee: My condolences to Dean's family as well.

Good Morning...

we are seeing a partly sunny sunrise here, going all the way to 27F today and up to 30F tomorrow in the dull dull dull...

Found out yesterday that a friend of mine broke his hip in a fall down some stairs...suspect  that he had a black out ...he also has heart issues as well...so I be going to see how he is doing today.

Need to find some more glues for the pink foam stuff again...I thought i had enough...Bang Head

Flo, I'll have a coffee and a cheese croisant please...I'll be at the RC for a bit...

 Good morning.

Looks like my area dodged another snow bullet.   Sooner or later we will get a major snow storm.

Not much planned today.  Go by the post office, and maybe grocery shop.  I might even go by a LHS.  I do have some Christmas money to spend!!

I will pop back in later!!!

... which we are having right now!

Good Afternoon Folks,

yes, we have a real blizzard outside! We were lucky to get all our shopping done. We have stacked up on food, just in case things get worse than they already are.

Nothing much going on today - a dull day.

have a safe day!

Good Morning,

Looks like it will warm up later this week and we will get some rain to wash the salt off the roads.  I see several people in the south received snow this past weekend, I hope it didn’t cause too much panic…

Rob I use Krystal Klear adhesive by Micro Scale. Clear fingernail polish works well also.

Morgan, that’s good news that your still there, I never thought Amazon would do that much in sales, amazing.

Berry and Morgan, thanks, I can only imagine now that Dean has passed his books and rolling stock lines still on the LHS shelves will jump in price.

Tonight I’m heading to Akron for a visit with friends, then Thursday I’m heading to Ashland.

Packer

Jeff, Would the old (but new to you) tripod be a case of "they don't make them like they used to"?

Definitely. The tripod I've been using is an Ambico 54" (maybe a V-0555) tripod and is somewhat flimsy. It weighs slightly more than two pounds. It's stable enough indoors but has a tendency to vibrate in even a 10 mph wind and a 15-20 mph will flip it right over. If there's a wind I have to anchor the legs with rocks, bricks or whatever else may be handy to keep it from turning over. There are two things I like about it. It has a built-in level and it has a detachable plate. I have no idea where it was made. The new tripod (old actually) is a Velbon VE-3 (Made in USA). It's heavy construction makes it stable even in a 25-30 mph wind. I borrowed it quite a few times in the past and never had to anchor it. It's own weight holds it in place quite nicely though it is a pain for me to carry for more than a short distance without a sling. It takes longer to set up than the Ambico and it doesn't have a level or a detachable plate. On the other hand I don't have to worry about losing the plate.

Flo, I'll take anything and everything that's hot.  I ain't tellin no lies: we had SNOW fall IN FLORIDA

Hi group!  Yeah, it must be winter.  Cold and snow.  GALAXY- you can always go to Mexico and help ED with his orange grove.   He can also use an extra pair of eyes with his N trains.

HAH!!! We STILL have about 4 FEET of the dang stuff that fell from a couple of weeks ago....If anyone wants to see snowfall they should come here and travel with me up highway #4 to Lucan where they got beaked with a 7 FOOT snowfall---in 2 days...so there...haaaarrrruuuuuuummph...

BTW---just to point how snowsqualls can be so fickle...Toronto never saw even a flake from that...yet you go down the Golden Horseshoe to Buffalo---you got to see ALL KINDS of it....

Howdy...

Good to read many of you had a nice Christmas.

We visited in Cincinnati. Now we are in Detroit. Shelley has a bad cold. Grandson in Detroit will have minor surgery on the 30th. Son in Cincy and daughter in AZ each have a birthday on the 31st.

Sad to learn about Dean Freitag's passing. His book was helpful when I modeled my steel mill.

Who is planning January location for thr Diner? Hope it's a warm spot. How about the Gulf Coast?

Zoe dear, scoot this over to Bama, he'll have finished the one you brought him earlier!  Laugh

Good morning folks, heavy wet snow for a couple of hours (coating-the-windows type) earlier last night, then rain, rain, rain - with the wind, of course. It blew in my MIL's bathroom fan vent (faces due east - right where the wind came from), and soaked the floor, and did the same thing under our back door, which isn't in the wind at all!  Quiet now, and from the look of the satellite cloud picture, it may well be over. We even saw some watery sun about an hour ago.

Rob: Please check that PM we have going, and get back to me.

I think I may try fitting snow ploughs to a GP7 today.

Good Morning All,

A regular and some pancakes with butter and maple syrup please. Side of bacon? Sure why not ? We are in a lull after the first real storm of the season. We ended up with about a foot and a half according to the local weather guessers but the 40-50 mph winds have piled drifts up all over and the temp has remained in the low 20's since yesterday morning. Our two dogs have very mixed reactions to it all. The mutt - Rupert (a Heinz 57 breed) is shaggy and loves the snow. Runs around with his nose down in it playing snowplow. Ratty - a toy fox terrier (think miniature chihuahua with bigger ears) gets about 4 feet from the door turns around and makes a beeline back inside. Big fun.

We texted everyone this morning that the shop was closed so we get an extra day off. Time to get busy in the basement - more wiring and moving about to do. Perhaps with some effort I can get it as neat as Toddland. CUL, J.R.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have the same as J. R. only make it a dark roast in a R&GV RR mug.

Currently 18°F under very gray skies with some little white flakes falling here in the Finger Lakes.  Winds at 17mph with gusts around 25mph.  Good day to sit by the stove and do some odds and ends in the train room.

I highly suggest we move the diner back up North next month so the Southern Folks can warm up a little.......Whistling

Wood stove has been fired up this morning and I probably should move a couple more wheelbarrows full of wood to the back porch just to stay even with what I have been burning over Christmas.

Oh, Merry Christmas once again..... only 8 days left!

Later!

Afternoon folks!

Flo a cup of hot cocoa would do nicely right now....  It is now at the high for the day, 21°F with the wind chill, 8°F...  Wind is currently gusting to 27mph and we have a flurry happening......

I, of course, had to drive downtown to the drug store as I found I was almost out of a couple items....  Managed to get in line right behind a lady who was busy chewing out the pharmacist because she didn't understand something...  The lady (pharmacist) again and again calmly tried to explain what the lady had to do to get something filled, pointing to the paper (not a prescription).  THAT only made the lady yell louder....  After about 15 minutes the pharmacist just shook her head and walked away...  This, of course, really ticked of the lady who was now yelling at everyone including me....  I just smiled and looked the other way....  Ah, Peace on Earth (to those of good will...).

Did 2 loads of wash so far today which means I got some time in the train room. WinkBig Smile  Started putting on some railbars on the new tracks at the quarry.  I find if you put the railbars across the gaps at the frogs (Fast Tracks Turnouts) they effectively hide the gaps.....  Once they are in place, I will paint the track, and then ballast.

Stay warm out there!

Afternoon guys.

Well guess what, more anti freeze lost in the car today, but not a lot. It was leaking at the stem of the radiator where the line from the reservoir goes into it. I stuck a hose clamp on it and it seems to work (there wasn't one there when I took it apart). Now to try and get subframes and a belt that I can bypass my broken AC compressor.

Jeff, Think you could get the built in level and detacable plate put on the old (new to you) one?

Garry, Where on the gulf coast where you talking? BTW, on the CB&Q light clusters, the mars was the clear lens and the red was for the emergency light, right?

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Just a BIG mug of chicory coffee for me. Been to the bank (make deposit), the gas station (get gas for the van) and Wal-Mart (in that order). Bought enough groceries to last out the week. By then my SS will have hit the bank and I can go back for more groceries. Yesterday I have a severe dizzy spell and had to get off my feet for a while. Afterward I was really tired. Even a six or seven hours of sleep I'm still tired. The skin right around my eyes burns and I'm having a bit more trouble with my balance than usual. I hope it passes soon because it's irritating.

Three extra large black coffee's Flo one for each boot and I'll drink #3. MAN! it's blankety blank cold and windy as all get out here in the lovely little piece of heaven known as New Jersey. (only kidding about that last part guys) We have about 3 feet or so here and drifts up to 5 or 6 feet in spots and then you walk around the other side of the barn and there's bare ground........lol but the kick in the head is as quickly as you clear the snow the wind puts it right back where u just cleaned. Got tired of that game and went up to the farm and drove the front end loader and cleared the street and most everyone's driveway. Don't know about any of you but this is enough snow for me.

Jeff hope what ever is ailing you passes real soon, my cellulitus is kicking the you know what outta me but you gotta do what you gotta do. Just glad it's behinds me for the most part now.

Just my 2 cents worth, I spent the rest on trains. If you choked a Smurf what color would he turn?

Near the bottom of the page? can't have THAT!

So,althought I have little to say, I shlal post to move it up a bit and keep it from disappearing to page two.

Jeffrey W. thanks for all your recent help, I must sound like a bumbling fool. Hope you get to feeling better. I have dizzy spells once in awhile, and not fun! Take care of yourself, ya hear? I think mines caused  by medications, though.

Speaking of medications, I have learned to stay away from the computer and posting at various times when I take my new muscle relaxer,it makes me very sleepy and I have no idea what I said or typed, adn fortunately have not been far off topic when I read it later when I've slept off some of the med. Have to call the DR. adn find out about it cuz I can't go out in public and drive under the influence of THAT I tell ya. It may relax my muscles, but relaxes all of me and talking? well forget that- I sound drunk I slur my words. I only take when I know I'm going to be home and can sleep it off. JSUt woke up form a three hour nap from it. I'm supposed to take it 3 times a day, I don;t think so!

well, I've said enough.

Talk at you all later when Im not drugged!

As neat as Toddland! (of which I’m king) HAH! Somebody doesn’t set there sights as high as I thought they would.

Didn't get to the layout as hoped today and probably won't tomorrow either. Maybe Wednesday. Spent most all day driving back and forth to Springfield in search of the correct straight caths for Mom. Scipt was very vague I guess and I had no idea what she needed as Brenda does it not me. Main problem was neither Brenda nor I are familiar with this process and have no idea what the need is other than what was given to us by the hospital WHICH, I might add, is NOT available to the public. They gave us little information as if we knew all about this catheter (sp?) thing FINALLY a nice lady helped me who knew something about catheters (sp?) and deciphered what we needed despite the fact the script did not say. It was after hours by the time I got to her so the docs office was closed as well as the place I was at. She said the Dr should have been called right off the bat to see what she was supposed to have instead of guessing. All is well now. Mom is nodding off to sleep with a comfortably emptied bladder.

I think I’m gonna cozy up in the parlor car with Ray by the fire with a cup of dark roast, bring my D-28, he can break out his baby and maybe teach me a thing or two. Good night for it.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a decaf for me.  I'll be sitting in the back booth keeping warm by the fire....

Got a bit of model railroading done today.  Found I used way too much diluted white glue on the ballast inside the engine house.  Came out with lots of globs of glue in places and was very shiny..... Not good!  So I used some of the dental picks I got for my birthday last month and picked off what I could and then painted some clear flat paint on it to dull it down a bit.  I think it will be alright by the time i do all the other stuff inside it.  Also glued in place a lot more rail bars.  Only have a few more to install and I will get to painting the rail.

Todd, my one big resolution for the New Year is to lose enough weight THAT I will be able to hold my Guitar correctly and get some flexibility back in my fingers.  I should be playing it while I still have enough hearing left to know what I am doing and enjoy it!

Hope everyone stays warm and safe!

Good Morning,

Well it’s that time to consider New Year’s resolutions…

My goals are to build all those Suydam metal buildings I have on the shelf and lay the track in the train room expansion.  You know the room that has had bench work in it for over 12 months.  I think losing some weight is in order. Since I started this office job in 2009 I’ve gained 24 pounds.  Maybe set a goal of 1 pound/week.

Friend of mine (Jim) asked if I would look at a steam locomotive of his that’s not working.  I said sure.  Well I figured out why it’s not working; it’s a HO-Scale Bowser kit for a PRR Pacific locomotive that’s never been assembled.  There has to be 30 parts still in the original packaging plus all the extra details.  The tender is a stack of flat brass sheets that need soldered together.  I’ve never built one of these kits so if anyone has any tips or tricks they care to share I would appreciate it.

 Morning Folks

Flo, may I please have a Western Omelet.

Yesterday I was depressed all day. Maybe it was due to lack of Caffeine. When I bought my Diet Dew supply the other day they where out of 2 liter bottles. So I gaped a case of cans. Opened them yesterday and they turned out to be Caffeine Free Diet Dew? What is really odd few years ago when I was trying to buy the Caffeine Free Dew, there was none to be had.

Got to clean up the train room, seems Charter is coming out again today! Phone is cutting in and out again. They have been out more the last three months than the last 5 years.

 Good morning.

Well we have a warm up coming.   That's always good, but with Pittsburgh hosting the outside NHL hockey game....They are all worried about the ice melting.   Don't matter to me, I'm just ready for a few days of warm weather.

I laid some more foam board yesterday, and laid some track done.  The track isn't down to stay, but just to get a idea.   I haven't weathered any cars lately.  I guess its due to me going back to school in a couple of weeks.

I see Lee has his list ready for new years......Well this year its get this DANG debt paid off!!  We don't have much, but with the refinance of the house not getting done, and not getting any pain money from my wifes wreck,  we are still stuck with it.   Jessica is getting student loan money to go back to school, and we will be hitting the bills hard in about a month or so.   The first few thousand we got last year with her money went to taxes (house, city).    I'm still trying to get her to put some towards the bills and try the house one more time.    I guess we will see.

I do have to clean the house today, its a mess.   Jessica is off all week, and she doesn't understand how I can't just let it wait.   Well I can't stand a nasty house.

Todd.........I forgot to say something to you the other day about the CSX app.  I put on in before, but didn't get a call, so I'm not expecting one this time either.  A buddy I know just got hired on to Norfolk Southern, and he's set for life!!  He's only 19 years old.   He has a good future with them.    Me.....I still have school to do, I just thought I would give it a try, again!!

Good Afternoon,

brrr - it is icy cold outside - 5 F only. No more snow, though, but driving conditions are now worse, as the roads are covered with ice. We are only a week into winter, but it is already the worst we had in the last 40 years.

Zoe, a mug of hot cocoa and some chocolate chip cookies to munch on, please.

I will have only one New Year´s resolution - not to attempt any thing I am most likely failing to meet Whistling

I am also still in a low mood. All my MRR plans (for myself) somehow go up in smoke, due to lack of funds and space to do something right. For the first time in my life, I am seriously thinking about giving up the hobby for good, as it just adds to my frustration.

I hope you all have a good day. Stay safe!
