Lunchtime in northern Germany!

Zoe, just a large mug of hot coffee, as I just had a bowl of Petra´s award winning lentil soup! Thank you!

November 11th, 1918 - Armistice Day! WW I left Germany with 2,5 million dead and 4,2 million wounded people - what a price to pay. But worse was yet to come! If only mankind would learn....

Spend the morning fiddling around with my track plan. I did some tweaking and added a mine - what would a western themed layout be without a mine! I think I now have pretty much captured what I was looking for. ( and all I can handle).

Here it is:

Better to stop playing around with it, before I get stuck in an analysis-paralysis rut.

There are a few issues regarding the benchwork which I need to drool over, but basically, there is no issue that really gives me a headache.

 Good morning.

Just a couple more days to the show.   Today Jessica and I will do a check list and make sure we have everything we need.   I also have to take her for her CT scan resolute.   They stupid doctors office has canceled three appointments now!!!  She finally called and went off on them, so we see them today.   These are symptoms from the car wreck a few months ago.

The last car going to the train show is almost ready.   One more day, and it should be done.

Ulrich........I forgot to say something yesterday....Congrats on the second call.  I hope it goes real good for you.

Thanks be to all those who serve-past, present and future!

WE have some FROG outside...FRozen fOG. But will burn off and be a beauteous day! with warmth and sunshine! Clown

Off to get other half's paycheck. Don't think we can deposit it though- I think the bank is closed due to the holiday. WE are waiting for the day they allow direct deposit into other bacnks besides their own E CU which is like a 3 hour drive away. ANd apparently according to one former employee, the CU will charge you a fee is all you do is set up an acount for direct deposit and do nothing but write checks out of it and into your other bank accounts!?!?.

It never ends does it?Dead

Then off to walmart to do some shopping.

It never ends does it?Dead

Then I have to run diswasher .

That never ends does it?Dead

And I have to run the laundry.

That never ends does it?Black Eye

Other half will cover the LR window A/c with foam board insulation and a cover, I will have to stabilize the BR a/c as other half takes it out of window to be sure it doesn't fall out like it did one year when other half tried to do it alone {I can't lift it}. Other half will "button up the porch" by covering the top ends with heavy plastic to keep out snow and wind{taller and more stable on ladder than I am}.

It never ends does it?Bang Head

WE need to go to Lowes to get new A/c winter cover as teh ones we have are shot. If not a new on, then both the old ones will have to go on to help better cover the a/c for the winter. It serves two purposes, doesn't allow wind to blow into the window through the a/c and to protect the insides form freezing damage of snow and ice.

It never ends does it?Bang Head

While at Lowes, we can check on 3/4" ply 4x4' piece I will have cut to 42x40" if not 42x42" with a min of 40x40" so I can run an 18r circle/mini oval instead of a 15r circle/oval for the under the table top tree layout. I want to be able to at least put in a very short piece of straight track so it in not all total circle for my poor trains! I want to paint the board white for the "snow scene" teh other half INSISTS we have under the tree..I am not so fond of it. Other half also want alpine houses draped in snow in N scale to go under the tree but will have to deal with current stuff until next year. WAlther has a set for sale this year but Santa has charged up the CC enough fo rthis year. I am going to have to see if I can set my handy dandy router-like gizmo to a short depth so I can rout out a groove under the layout for the wires and will ahve to go to Unicorn Electronics to get some kind of male/female plugs to be able to "plug into the wires" connected to the layout fromthe power packs, as i don't want to hard wire the EZCommand to the layout rather have a plug-n-play system.

Sounds like fun doesn't it?Stick out tongue

Already have next years present for other half for xmas will order soon cuz I know they have it or  in teh spring. wants to go DCC now having seen how easy for me, so wanting the Acela in N scale now bachmann has DCC OnBoard adn will get for next xmas it is aobut $180-$225 I think, but if I don't get while they got {like I did the GG1 last MARch} then Imay nto get for next xmas and would be disappointing. Next year I get a Digitrax zephyr Xtra! whoo hoo! so the second EZCommand I just got can go to Nscale dedication under the tree. The first EZcommand work the HO under tree. and he Xtra work the layout which I'm gonna rebuild this winter to a slightly large size that will accomodate two 18r ovals interconnected...

Sounds like fun doesn't it?Stick out tongue

Well you all have a great dayGeeked

SOunds like fun doesn't it?Stick out tongue

Good morning all,

I would like to thank those that served before me, served with me, and those that continue to serve our Armed Forces today and into our future…

Last week I received my (almost) free license plates from the State of Ohio: “ARMED FORCES RETIRED”.  For those of you working towards the 20 or 30 year mark, hang in there, it will come soon enough.

When Ulrich returns and announces he got the job I make a motion he picks up the tab for the rest of the month. LOL!

Good morning All,

Just below freezing this morning but bright sunshine so all is good. Colonoscopy went well enough especially since they now insist on putting you under so it was just a nice nap.

Vincent - I think the coil over conversion is good if you're doing corner weights or using the car on track or for auto cross. otherwise it's just bling and will be siezed up in a year or so when you need to readjust for some reason or other. I much prefer shorter springs to lower the car (don't forget to shorten the bump rubbers on the shock as well) for street use. I bodged my own adjustable perches for the Focus by cutting up some surplus broken race shocks since I wasn't sure what ride height I'd be able to get away with (roads are a bit more bumpy in my neck of the woods).

Robby - good luck with your tarin show this weekend - I'm sure you'll do well.

Ulrich - best to you in your follow up interview - always a good sign to be called back!

Well my coffee has come and gone and I've been interrupted continuously for the last two hours so I'll just post this and get on with it.             CUL, J.R.

Good morning All!

Not much to report from the land of Buckeyes on this 34 degree Veteran's Day morning.Modeling wise yesterday I manage to drop a structure and now its in 4 large pieces.I shall glue it back together..As a update on Slate Creek Industrial I decided to go with a 1'x 8' which is the maximum my space will allow.

I shall have a cup and look over the forum.

Folks,

I feel the need to address this, today being the 11th of November.

Being a German, I feel very touched by all the greetings to the service people and the memories for all of those, who gave their lives in the fight for freedom. Without their sacrifice, the world would be a different one today, but not for the better.

In both wars, Germany accounted for about 12 million casualties, both military and civilian,  a number which terrifies me. My family was extremely lucky to survive both wars without a major loss of life. Hardly any family did not have to mourn the death of a beloved one, and many a family was eradicated completely.

We do not have a public holiday to commemorate those who gave their lives in two unjust wars, so I would like to invite you for a silent prayer for all people, who died in the course of these wars, be it friend or foe.

Thank you!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have the #2 special, over easy on the eggs, bacon, home fries, and a double order of Sour Dough Toast and lots and lots of dark roast coffee in a FGLK mug.  Thank you Ma'am!  Oh and give Bill a refill and tell him I said Thank You!

Ulrich....  Amen, Amen, and Amen!  I hope each of us spends some time in prayer for all those who have lost so much for "Man's inhumanity to man".  I can only hope for a world with less hatred and greed........

Nice sunny day here in the Finger Lakes, so I think I might pile some wood on the back porch for the winter heat supply.  I also HAVE to finish the new display for the Modelers Corner this Sunday.

Have a blessed day!

 Afternoon folks.

 Flo, just a beer please.

Ulrich Thank you for your touching thoughts on WWI and WW II. It is sad you country does not have a day to honor your fallen. They gave there life's for your country not that Paper Hanging Son of a female dog. I am not sure how to phrases this, but I am glad you stood up and said something. Reason I say this is I made a friend that lived in Japan that was into Dodge Chargers. We had been E Mailing each other for months. Then Dec 7th came around and I brought up Pearl Harbor and asked how they honored there fallen. ( I have been there and was very moved ) Last time I heard from him.

Wow, Duke and Krump in one week!  It's like a reunion. If Flip stops in.... And for whoever was looking for Spacemouse - he resides (resided ?) out in the big hall where he held forth on his varying philosophies and had quite a following. He's from Indiana Pa. out by Butler/Pittsburgh/etc (yes Robby and Monnenssin) and was in the process of tearing down his layout to redo it as a transition era PRR set up IIRC. Jeff can probably fill in the rest.

Long day again but getting things done a little at a time.

Ken - out of idle curiosity why do you need a 100 gal compressor set in your garage (and an upright one at that)? Planning on building a truck repair bay off the verandaWhistling?  If you can change it out for a smaller unit that sits in the hoizontal type plane you could gain a fair bit of space. I only mention it because that ambitious track plan you're noodling could use a bit more space to strech out in and most of the other options aren't really. You could make a nice liftout mountain around the air conditioner depending on which way it's oriented or build it into the liftout by making it a powerplant or factory. Just think of the fun you'll have explaining a weathered detailed unit when you go to trade it inSmile, Wink & Grin.

Evening all.

Had a great time at the Devils game last night, even they lost due to Kovalchuck's epic fail.
On Yahoo, they referred to it as a "Koval-choke," which I thought was pretty funny.

Also had the best English class ever today. Somehow, we got off topic about drinking and Jersey Shore. I also made our teacher, Sister Mary Alicia (we call her SMA, just not to her face, for obvious reasons... and yes, we do still have some nuns!) laugh by telling her a story about her from last year. It went something like this (it's me speaking to SMA, btw):

Last year, you were subbing for some class, and you said something about "Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars."
Then someone said, "What if you shoot for the stars?"
Then you said "Then you'll land in the trees."
Then they said "What if you shoot for the trees?"
Then you said "Then you'll land in the mud."
Then they said "What if you shoot for the mud?"
Then you said:

"WE AT [school name here] DO NOT SHOOT FOR THE MUD! WE ARE ABOVE THAT!!!"

I'm not sure if she realized that she was actually laughing at herself, but I still feel accomplished that I got SMA to laugh. Laugh

Thanks to all our veterans!

Well, I gotta go for now. I'll catch you guys later.

Evening guys

Sledered up half of the front handrails for a GP9. I'm actually using a messed-up GP18 sill as a template for these. Also finsihed the final painting (painting the weight) on the CR MDC 2-bay hopper.

Helped my father (Who himself is a veteran of 26 years, like my grandfather [A Korean war B-29 pilot], and his father and his brother [served in Big Red one in WWII]. There are a bunch in my family; as far as I know all but one came back[lost in Vietnam]) with moving his LTDs around so that the wagon isn't sitting in the grass.

Veterans, Thanks for all you guys put on the line so we can have our freedoms.

JR, I'm mainly using my car as a daily driver, with occasional trips to the local (if you call 30 miles local) dragstrip. I test drove my brothers car which has the set-up I was looking at getting. Looks like it the old-fashioned coil spring and shock/strut.

Ulrich, Here I've heard that KIAs and VWs tend to be unreliable. There's the usual debate of Ford vs. Chevy vs. Dodge here (guess it's the south). Can't say anything since all 4 cars I've had have been Mustangs (88, 97, 90, 94 GT)

Ken, You see the picture on the last page? I think Todd did.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

pcarrell? PCARRELL? PCARRELL? who's that?

Gee, Duke, brakie and pcarrell I must have transitioned into the twilight zone.

WEll, naturally they didn't find anyhting wrong with the KIA. But it is documented so even if the problem gets identified after the warrantee runs out, it can be grandfathered in as I reported the problem pre-out-of-warrantee. The Service tech said Kia is pretty good about taking care of their customers even after the warrantee runs out....IF you can prove you have properly maintained it. SInce we don't know if the 30k service pack was performed or not, and it has 50 k on it now, he agreed that I should wait til closer to 60K and do the 60k service pack {same as 30K service pack @$395.00+tax, etc}. ALso I wanted to add the spark plugs to the service pack, and he agreed. While they may say they can go 100K on sparkplugs, I have had several Mechanics all say that 75k is the better bet as they do wear out. and Kia service guy reccomended 60-70K. After teh 60K service pack, is the 120k service pack job. SO I will be good for another 60k after I do it {the 60k}  next year. Dunno.

Didn't get all the errands run and tomorrow is the banking as the bank was naturally closed. I also walked all the way down to the wall of locked Mailboxes for the park side we are on and walked all the way back empty handed before I remembered there wasn't any mail today Bang Head

WEll, {deep subject that actually holds water} I shall move on and check out the rest of the forum.

Good Evening All,

I just knew that the diner would (still) be the place to check in Geeked.  It has been crazy busy around here but fall always brings me back to the TRAINing.  The kids are all active with school, the church's youth group and various sports - eldest will celebrate b'day 15 tomorrow (yikes).  My good wife has been busy with beekeeping and extracting the honey - now the fun begins with the sales at craft fairs.  ME ? - same ole stuff.  The chickens have a new "palace" and my office work (the stuff I get paid for) is busy as ever.

We were trying to sell one of the vehicles - decided to write it off instead.  the other vehicle suddenly took my space on the road.  Still waiting on insurance for the details, and in the meantime I'm doing what I can to be more comfortable - everything aches but that is the blessing - it looked a lot worse than it was.  And yippee-me, I had my first massage yesterday, as a result.

I've been hanging out with the local club again (Salmon Arm, BC) and starting to make time for that.  Also helping a buddy re-design his layout, and that is giving me a lot to think about for renewed efforts on my CASTAWAY railroad details.

The garage is now done, and my train room is available again.  Thumbs Up

Remembering and Thanking all the Vets today.  We are so Blessed.

coffee please.

hey - is that billiards table still operating (or did one of you put a layout on it) ?

cheers, krump

Evenin'.....  Holy Moly!  Look at the crowd in here.  Oh just a decaf for me, Flo.  I'll go hang out in the back with everybody else.

Philip, good to see you!  That bike out there belong to you.  Somebody was suggesting prayers for you?  Well, I will remember you in mine......

BYW, not only is today Veteran's Day here in the US, but November 11 is also the 216th. anniversary of the signing of the first treaty of the United States.  It is known as the Treaty of Canandaigua or the Pickering Treaty.  The treaty was signed by Timothy Pickering (Council to President Washington) and the Leader of the Haudenosaunee, Chief Red Jacket among many others.  "One of the things that will happen today that is a symbol of that peace and that friendship is that the United States of America will present us with what we call treaty cloth. That was part of the treaty, that they would give that annuity of cloth each year and as long as we continue to receive it, we will believe that the peace is still in place," said Perry Ground, Vice President of Friends of Ganondagan.

This is both a historical celebration that happens every year in Canandaigua and a living piece of the early History of the United Sates.  I am proud to say to this very day both sides of the treaty have faithfully kept their promises signed way back then.......

Got the wood splitter off the trailer and put away for the Winter, stacked a bit of the wood in the driveway, finished up most of the needed items needed for the Batavia Show on Sunday, and attended a Cub Pack Meeting this evening.  If any of you make it to the Batavia, NY show, be sure to stop at the NMRA Booth and introduce yourselves.

Tomorrow I get to run trains at the home of a MMR who lives in Hammondsport, NY.  He has a World Class RR that is definitely fun to operate!  Looking forward to it.

Have a great evening!

Good to see Gerry's layout is looking as good as ever!  Well done shot my friend!

Philip, good to see you!  That bike out there belong to you.  Somebody was suggesting prayers for you?  Well, I will remember you in mine......

Yeah, it's my scoot out there.

And just so you all know, even though I haven't been around in a while, I always pray for you all!  Thanks for remembering me!

Good very early morning on the 12th.Zzz Warning, the links in this should open in New Window, but may not.

Ulrich: That Sir, is one elegant layout!Bow

but the easier way would be just to omit the turntable, if I found out how to install a working coupler on the pilot of my T-12.
I like the mine, and just the one  turntable very much. On a layout that size, running the loco in reverse if you can figure the front coupler thing isn't going to be a big deal is it? I've ridden behind a lot of passenger steam where the loco was that way - presumably because there was no economic reason to turn it.

On your thoughtful comments for the day, the treaty of Versailles was a terrible vindictive mistake - sin, if you want to be theological about it. The result now clearly known.  It's a poignant time for me as my only uncle, whom I never met, was killed in a "Friendly Fire" incident returning to port on the vessel that laid the gasoline pipeline to Normandy after D Day.( Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE http://www3.hants.gov.uk/hampshire-countryside/lepe/lepe-history/d-day-lepe.htm...and http://www.rigzone.com/news/image_detail.asp?img_id=226 for the ship he served on - I think, there were two others equipped to do the job )

Garry:

your work=-n-progress.
...it's HO, but there is progress today as the glue tube seems to be otherwise fully functional.Thumbs Up  Jerry, you can see it's not a Butler field-storage bin ( I finally tumbled to your meaningDunce). It's for feed at a chicken barn. Maybe this progress from today will shed more light as to the format.

TiptonBill: Thanks for the reminder of all those less remembered theatres

PC: Good to see you back again!

Krump: Hope you heal up really quickly and no lasting harm.Angel

On that glue tube thing

I've written to the manufacturer, and we'll see what if anything he has to say.
"he" turned out to be a Kathleen, who said they've now changed the packaging to a bottle, with an (additional cost) needle nose applicator top.  She did ask for my mailing address, so we shall see if anything comes of THAT!

Looks like bedtime yet again. Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers continuing for all in need.Angel

PC!!! Great to see you again. I hope all is well with the family. We missed you.

Same with Duke and Krump though they have been in since PC.

I'm proud to be in the company of those who have served and as important, with those who support those who do. Support is of equal importance. Let's not forget that also.

Ulrich- My Father served in WWII in the Artillery. Mainly in France and Italy, but I've heard him reference Germany many times. He staunchly held that it was not the Germans we were fighting. It was the N**zi's. The Germans were just caught up in the middle.

I'll retire for the evening and sleep well knowing there are good men and women protecting me. AND I'll see how the "N" word posts.

PrayersForThoseInNeed and our troops.  Angel
