>Pops one eye open, looks around, yawns<

Good Morning everyone in AZ!!!

WEll, dunno, maybe today we go to Elmira {Horseheads} to Lantz's hobby shop AKA wholesaletrains.com to look for a train station for out train nut friend. I can pick up some track bits too and a set of new trucks for my newly aquired {old used} B&O Caboose.

I say maybe because th KIA will have to go back to the dealer {again}, It seems after awhile on the hiway at hiway speeds with cruise control going, when we get off at the lower speeds it BUCKS quite hard or hesitates when the gas is stepped on at the lower speeds. Dunno if its a tranny problem, a fuel filter/pump issue, or a "sensor" problem as there are so many on todays vheicles. It did that on the way back from the Syracuse show as we got off 81 to drop off our train nut friend. WE were gonna stop at his house, but decided to get home while she was still running.

Have to call the service desk about it. Meant to yesterday. FOrgot.

We also have to go pick up our HEAP application for energy heating assistance for this winter. With the gas and electric rates going up {for us the same company}, it will certainly help to reduce our costs this winter. Was available on the 1st, but shows you how well we think about getting it fast and filling it out as it will take about  3 months for them to process and give us our award, which should be the same as last year. Right now the energy comapny OWES US about $250 of service. WE always remain paying them $100.00/month year round and with our HEAP Award, we usually don't owe tehm more than that. Balanced Biling is wonderfull.

So what are you guys up to today?

I may get top honors, If I do, eat up!

If not, please disregard the previous message.

**please disregard the previous messge!! I did NOT get top honors!

Good Morning,

I really need to check in on the weekends, I’m always 5-7 pages behind.

Fireman216, I hope the Mrs. is feeling better.

We had 2” of snow Saturday; it came out of the sky in clumps and in less than 3 hours after it fell it melted away.  This morning we had a heavy frost, winter is coming soon…

Larry, nice to see you in the diner, I heard I missed you and the guys at the Berea show; I had a lost girlfriend I had to find, LOL.

Robby, you should sell some of your rail fan pictures at the train show.

Ken, on the curves I agree.  This layout I designed it to have some massive curves (36, 38.5, and 41) on the 3 track mainline since I had the real-estate to play with, but it dominated the rest of the layout plan.  I think most locomotives can run on 22” to 24” radius curves.

Speaking of layouts: I got a bunch of work done this weekend on the east end of the layout.  I’m still doing touch-ups here and there before I take pictures.  The lumber yard is in and fully stocked with lumber, stacks of bricks, drainage tiles, cinder blocks, and various building supplies. I still need to finish up the stray foliage and install a trash/burn pile in the back to finish it off.  The team track/yard office is waiting on the little details to finish it off.  Basically it looks too “clean” without any stray piles of junk and stuff you normally find.  The sugar beet refinery has the basic building in place and I’m working off layout on the beet pile sluice pit I’m scratch building. I kit bashed a truck scale and have that installed with a small scale house.  The seed-feed-farm supply store is in and almost finished.  All of this is in a 4’ x 14’ area on the east end of the layout.  The area is divided into quarters by tracks and a gravel road.  Total the area can hold up to (a total of) twelve 40’ cars on the four spurs.  It will make an interesting switching situation for the local freight crew.

Good Morning! Coffee please. The dog got me up at 4:30 to pot-ay. She has returned to a snoring slumber and I have not. I have decided to go to Mom’s house and do some grouting etc then return for the truck at 10:30 then do some things around the house til w**k again at 5. Probably bring the table saw home I intended to some other day.

I kinda lean towards Ulrich’s view on track plans. Yet I want plenty to do, but I also want something to look at as well. Scenery that is. Somewhere in between but closer to Ulrich than Armstrong.

Jeff- Feller in Leesville has some observation cars for sale on the (not so) Evil Bay. Know him? No concerns or questions, just curious if you did. Don’t know if I’ll bid enough to get one. I have received many “you lose” notices to date. Right now I’m leaning towards the real cheap. There are plenty of heavyweight rear observation cars out there and I can continue without one for quite some time.

Last night after I left I……..looked into the train room. Can’t wait to get back in there. The thing looks lonely.

Sooon, very soon.

Best get moving if I want things to go as planned. "The best laid plans of mice and men...."

{in regards to taking/selling some railfan shots}

Robby! I suggested a few days ago you take some "8x10 glossies" {photos} of your real train shots so you can show/sell the weathered cars as looking exactly like what you saw in real life. It will help greatly if you can get a model  car that matches exactly the photo of the real car, but we are dreaming here. Then again, maybe not. Keep that in mind for the future.

If you have a good printer that will take photographic glossy paper and print well on them with good ink cartridges you should have some swell pics that you can show off/sell if mounted on a piece of corrugated cardboard and shrink wrapped {or wrapped with saran wrap lightly tightly}.

Photo graphic paper should be available at Staples, Office max, even Wallyworld.

Nope. Don't know him. I have no need for observation cars anyway. I already have several rear observation cars.

Good morning. It's 46 and mostly cloudy. The high will be 74 and it will remain mostly cloudy.

Looks as if our low temps are gonna be in the 50's the next few days. That's a welcome change from the 30's. I got the feeder wires under the layout all connected last night. The multi-meter indicates that all the connections are correct and there are no shorts. The next step will be to connect the buss wires with the control panel.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, a bowl of hot oatmeal w/ brown sugar, and a cup of dark roast in a FGLK mug, please and Thank You!

Barry!  Good to see you.  (whispers) I see Vinnie has been giving you a hard time.....  Huh?  No! No! Vinnie, I said, "It's good Vinnie is hard on crime!"  Hey Barry, are you planning on heading up to the Toronto Train Show Nov. 20?  I'll be there for the Niagara Frontier, NMRA Meeting THAT day.  After the Well (deep subject) in Oakfield which went down through 2 abandoned Mine Shafts (Gypsum) to finally reach water....  Ah very nice Sulfur Water....  Very smelly, icky, Sulfur Water....  I am very glad to be on the Geneva City Water Supply here!  The guy THAT drilled the well in Oakfield came within 1" of losing the bore drill head when he did the well.  THAT was the second of the two shafts he ended up going through.  The water in THAT part of NY is for the most part just awful.....  In Elba where I taught, the water was acid and would go through a water heater in about a year and a half.  Yep I like the Geneva Water.  Fresh, pure, Seneca Lake water with just a bit of agricultural run off and the slightest hint of Ontario County Landfill Leachate in it.  Yum!

Robby.........  NICE!

Todd, Steinbeck comes to mind.........Smile, Wink & Grin

Galaxy, not long after I bought it (Brand Spankin' New!) I had a similar problem with my 2002 Dodge Dakota.  It would be running along just fine, and then start to skip and buck.  Used to give me a real scare when I was 60 or so miles away from home pulling a 2 ton equipment trailer with it.  I would get home, call the dealer, and on the way there it would suddenly start running fine again....  They would plug into the computer and not be able to find anything wrong with it.  This went on for a year and a half before i was driving right by the place and it started up.  Drove in, left it running, and went and growled at the service guys....  They came out shut it off and......  Bad Oxygen Sensor on one cylinder!  Finally, after a year and a half, they put a new sensor in it and it has run well ever since.  I won't go into all the other problems I have had with it..........  My guess would be you have the same problem with the Kia.  But they have to isolate and find it first.

Currently 41°F here in the Finger Lakes under cloudy skies (actually it is sprinkling outside).  Guess I will get some w*rk done for the Modelers Corner on Sunday.  Have my Doctors Appt. early this afternoon, then need to do some shopping.  After THAT, the day should be mine to use any way I want.  (I hope!)

Later!

Mourning Folks

Flo, more Diet Dew, just cannot get woke up today.

Ulrich you input is all wise welcome, even if we run trains different. Far as wanting a spaghetti bowl, that is the last thing I want. I understand why you and others might think that with me wanting 4 main lines. In fact the plan by Armstrong that I like he rated low for switching. As far as trying to stick in scenery, not what I am looking to do either.

I guess the one thing I have not posted about is the terrain I want the layout sat in. I love Mountains, I see in my mind the engines snaking around turns going up and down grades. Mountains would be a large part of my back ground as well.I am sure you have seen my pictures in WPF, but here put here is a refresher of the look I like. Next patch will be better, I have learned from the mistakes I made with theses. They will all so all be lift off made from foam.

If you have seen Arthill, Twhite and Crandell's pictures, that is what I am shooting for in a smaller scale to suit my room.

One of the reasons I want a around the room layout is because I want the trains run to be more prototypical. Do not want to see the train go in front of a building, then around the back of it.

Self imposed off limit zones. Talking about the A/C and Breaker Box area. I have decided there is no reason for them. Why impose theses limits for in case I have a problem. I have not done a thing to the A/C for 12 years that involving removing it. When I build the bench by the breaker box and A/C I will have it set up where that section can be removed to do the needed work.

I hope this has cleared things up a little for yourself, Morgan and others that maybe paying attention to my ill directed attempt to build the perfect Cuda Ken Layout.

Vincent Can you post a picture of the Hams car?

Todd I did go to the Pearl Beer Website, we are not getting any in IL!

See you all later.

               Ken

Ray: If I don't get told that I'll be going in to get my ICD put in then I might be able to show up for that--it is always a good show that they put in there!Big Smile That appointment is on November the 18th as well--Whistling

As for the water stuff--Woodstock ON water is kind of funny--being that it is on a limestone bed you would think that we would not have sulfer but there is a pocket of sulferous water from a well near where my sister lives---it is in Sutherland Park just off Huron St. I can still smell that water now even in my memory--I used to go by there on the way to school--right by the pumphouse--and then skitter up the hill to get away from that smell--Tongue TiedHuh?Whistling

Well water out here has sulfur in it seemingly no matter how deep you go. Back before community water was put in we would pump the water up into a large holding tank 500 gallons at a time. By the time the water went to the pump to go to the house the sulfur smell was gone. The tank would have to be cleaned every 2 to 3 years to get the sulfer residue off the bottom.

Good Evening

it´s been a somewhat drab day - Petra was gone nearly all day long and with the mood I am in, I can´t stand being alone too well.

Flo, darling, how about something to cheer me up a little? No, please, I don´t mean a RBF - something like Drinks or Beer.

Robby - that car looks super. Just an idea for the show - why don´t you show a picture of a real car, with yout weathered car "posing" in front of it? I bet people will be amazed!

Ken - I do like the looks of your current layout very much. Do you really want to tear it down (which I would not do)? Btw, Crandell´ s layout is not that big at all.

Well, I see you all tomorrow!

Good afternoon peoples!

WEll {deep subject that holds water} we went to wholesaletrains.com and bought our train nut friend a Maywood train station kit, a fifties truck w/ "produce dealer people", people of train workers, adn people waiting at the station. I think hes got a NS train set, he can never remember and only set up periodically on the dining room table, wants to turn spare BR into layout space.

Also got teh other half some RR cars as mentioned-still wants European looking stuff but will take American freight cars such as a tanker, a set of flatbeds and a covered hopper of the D&H {Our intials} variety to go with teh ALREADY purchased box cars I bought to go behind the GG1 before I got the pennsy passenger cars.

I got some presents from santa too, just forgot what I pointed out. Wasn't much I was interested in. I also got some new wheel trucks for my dilapidated B&O caboose. Now they should be easy enough..now if I can get teh old couplers out of coupler pockets and new KDs in I will be happy. I will have to saw off the old coupler pocket top to drop in the new KDs I think, and don't know to secure them unless screws are included witht eh kds and now I have to dril hole for the screws? Glue the provided KD top on the coupler box? It will be a trick I guess. Unless someone hasa tutorial I will learn by trial by fire. The trucks are easy-just use the screw and hope I dont't strip them out putting on the new trucks.

SANTA IS ALL DONE FOR THIS CHRISTMAS!  WHoo HOo!

I hope they find it and solve it soon cuz if the warrantee runs out and I have to pay for lots of things I won't be a happy camper! I bought a newer one to help alleviate these types of problems for a bout 4-5 years.

Afternoon good peoples!

Flo, a nice warm cup of hot cocoa would hit the spot right now.

Just got back from shopping after seeing the Doc. this afternoon.....  I arrive early as they ask, sit and chat for a couple minutes with an elementary school principle I had the pleasure of working under for her last year as a principle.  Then I was called in for the appointment.  First thing they always do is lead me to the scales.....  Tell me, how can I gain 10 lbs. just by driving across the city of Geneva and walking up a flight of stairs???  I was still down about 4 lbs. since my last visit.  Then you get led down the hall and the nurse takes my blood pressure....  I could not believe what it was.  I almost had her take it again, but decided not to push my luck!  110 over 70.......  I almost passed out!  THAT is the lowest my blood pressure has ever been in my almost 64 years of life!  She leaves and I sit in a chair for the next 45 minutes waiting for the doctor to arrive...  He comes in finally and tells me that my total cholesterol is down over 50 pts.....  Would you believe, 153, and the balance between the good and the bad was right on the money!!!  Uric acid level is down a bit as well.  For some reason they didn't get the A-1, 3 month diabetic test, and my count the day of the draw was up a few points, but he left my medications the same.  So, I figure I aught to drop dead from heart failure any moment now....... Whistling  Told him about an episode of very high blood pressure a few months back, he got very concerned until I told him it was right after a picnic at my son's house and that he was serving Bratswurst (mostly concentrated salt it was.... Good though!)......  And about all the potato chips and other salty stuff.   I also told him THAT I was having episodes of my right thigh muscle going to sleep when I stand in one spot for any length of time.  he scratched his head, looked back over my records, grimiced a bit, and then a light went on and he said, "Oh, what you have is a nerve that is being pressed, probably by your belt around your hips when you are standing.  He have it long name, Latin or something, and said it is fairly common in overweight people my age and it is actually a skin thing not really the muscle.  So I think the move will be made to suspenders soon.....  THAT will give me something to ask for for Christmas I guess.

Well (deep subject) I have rambled on quite long enough, so I think I will see what can be done in the train room!

Later!

Hey Urlich.

Well (Deep subject I am waiting to get a job doing work on.) I've just been listening to some CW McCall after I got done with work. Finally took care of all the leaves. Took me long enough to do. 3 days running out of daylight. The school does not make the school day work for me. by the time I get out now, Its 3:15 and I still have to wait for my sister. I used to get home after 4, but now I drive to school. Alot more convenient.

Nothing for me. I'll just keep Urlich some company.

Evening all.

Did a fair amount of train related stuff today, despite the mountain of homework.

I had to go to the library today for an English paper, and I stopped by the Morristown & Erie shops to see what would be hanging around today. For those interested in seeing photos, see this thread:
http://cs.trains.com/TRCCS/forums/t/182294.aspx

On the modeling side, I did some work on the Genset. Got most of the parts on. Just about everything except MU cables, air hoses, handrails, and ditch light lenses (cases are on) has been applied. I also started on paint, beginning with the cab interior (control stand and seats painted black) and the cab itself, which will be blue. It's coming along. I'll have photos soon.

Don't know if I'll be in tomorrow (actually, I probably won't be) because I'm going to the Devils game, since my hockey team got discounted tickets and there's some special captains thingy going, and they want us to go and support them.

Well, I gotta go. Catch ya all later!

Morgan/Ulrich/Ken:

To get a yard long enough for twenty cars (5.5 in a piece is 9 feet in the shortest track, and then you need almost 7 feet for yard leads total) That yard may have to angle, but then an angle can be longer than a straight side.
...just a thought, curve the yard?  I've seen, so you guys must have too, where proto RRs do that when they are running out of real estate in one direction. My 2 Cents

Krump: Good to see you Sir!  How are things in the B.C. interior? It has indeed been a long time - this last few days have seen the return of more than one long-time patron! Welcome back. Any mrr news?

Johnboy: Cake, and welcome to the 0.7ton club!

DerJohn, Your scratch building is wonderful and hope to get my skills to come close to yours.
Aw Gee ShucksEmbarrassed ....still glad you approve, mostly I find it fun to do, like Robby and his totally awesome weathering!Bow   I've started another HO project   The final recipient may recognize  what it will be from this
Glad to hear you dodged the bullet with that last storm.
...so are we, there is  now severe flooding in SW Nova Scotia and neighbouring parts of New Brunswick.  6 meters in places (about 18') and rising - (that was yesterday, 8th Nov.)

Jeff: Fast progress on the re-wiring!

I was having that problem with the hooks.
Know what you mean. My method now is to make my own clamps from strips of cereal box card looped over the wire bundles and stapled to the bench work.

Todd:

QUICK!  Students.... what's that from?!
. "To a Mouse, on Turning Her Up in Her Nest with the Plough"  Mind you, Robert Burns put it a wee bit differently, since his original says  - "The best-laid schemes o' mice an' men gang aft agley,.." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/To_a_Mouse) LOL

Ken:

When I build the bench by the breaker box and A/C I will have it set up where that section can be removed to do the needed work.
..very do-able Ken.  I have a window blocked by tracks that has to be accessible as it's also a proposed fire exit onto out mud-room roof. So I've a pull away section

Chris565: Welcome to the Diner.  We have a Chris already, so do you mind if we differentiate a bit?  Care to tell us about your mrr / railfan  plans, layout, era, scale, & etc.?

Very little mrr lately, except the scratch build.  Too much other stuff going on.  Better say Goodnight all, and God Bless.  Prayers continuing for those in need of Healing, Comfort, Prosperity and Peace.Angel

Goooooooooooooooooooooood Evening, mug of apple cider please 'n thank-ya.

Operation Smooth Move/Project Ex-Lax continues in a whole new, unexpected phase. I all of a sudden realized THAT shelves in my office, where the staging yard will be, are too low! The proposed yard will conflict with them. So....not having any obligations to THAT Editor today, I dug through a multitude of freight car boxes. Many cars were upgraded and/or repaired, and relocated to the RR room. Another multitude now occupy the "waiting for Dullcote" ranks on the w**k table. I found some items I didn't even realize I had.

I see we have another Chris, no sweat. Thanks to JIM, I've got my trademark eight-ball to tell us apart.

Tomorrow, I go back to being a productive member of the staff of "the little weekly miracles" (THAT Editor's newspapers) I have to cover the first round of the State High School Volleyball Tournament, Class 4A. It's at the former Five Seasons Center, now the US Cellular Center, in downtown Cedar Rapids. The facility was built on the site of the CNW Freight House alongside the 4th St. tracks, and in the shadow of Quaker Oats. After the match (I only have to cover Iowa City West's battle), and good weather projected by the weather speculationists...I "should" be able to do some wandering around my intended area to model. I Haven't wandered around THAT area for several years. With luck, the CN might be in town, and if I'm realllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllly lucky, one of the ex-EJ&E SD38-2's might be in town.

I'll yield the floor and grab a seat at the RC for a bit.

Oh, anybody know anything about a movie called "Michael's Day" or something like THAT? I was flipping channels, trying to find something on the idiot box Rerun might enjoy, and caught part of this on THIS, a movie channel we now get thanks to digital TV. A kid was running a CP Rail Alco on a freight train. At one point, the engineer/conductor/brakeman/something and the kid jump off. The train rolls on by. Not sure when the movie was made, the loco had ditch lights, the "van" was yellow and had ditch lights on as well.

I kept flipping.

They will all so all be lift off made from foam.

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j284/cudaken/K%2010%20Mining/Millspur.jpg

               Ken

3 thoughts:

  1. Your thinking Appalachian mountains right, not (and I say this because I know you're a Monon guy) thems big hills by Bedford. (Just incitng trouble, :D)
  2. What height is the AC? being at least 12yrs old, I'd be inclined to leave the front open, but could one go over (or possibly, though I;d be afriad of it tipping IF it has to be removed) under it? I might steal a foot out of the breaker box, but you do want SOME access too that.
  3. That wall that was a prt of the guest changing room, you said it has to stay, but can you go through it? Is there enough room between the Studs (please don't tell me it's cinderblock) for a 5x4" hole? Possibly two holes, though I'd hate to complicate?

---

Evening all, might I get a bowl of Ice Cream whilst I vent some? Thanks.

Mom's got renters. We've been with her BF for since Oct 2009, and renting the old place. In the Unnattached garage, is our storage and what of mine I haven't got in a unit. We mentioned to the renter that if they were weilling to stay for a long time, or lease to buy, then we'd saee about getting our stuff out and give it to them. A long time being Years. Well, a month or so back (5 months into the lease) we got an e-mail that reads "Our storage unit at our old place lease is now almost up. We'll only have a trailer until November, and we'll gladly help you move out of that garage."

No. Showing the OWNER the door is not the way tro ake friends.

Well, two weeks back then, they asked that with the time change coming et al, I don't come by and work in that garage where my paintbooth is after 7. Fine, we can do that. Now their throwing a hissy fit because I make the dog bark, and that bothers them. I'm over there multiple times a day, every day. I wake the kid by making the dog bark, ot's just insane. To try to help Mom keep sane, I'm not over there for a week. Good thing 75% of my train stuff is out of there, but I won;'t be finishing a commemoprative for Dad... It's YOUR dog, not mine. Talk to ME about problems, and I;m not over there multiple times a day; 2 maybe, but I can't do anything while the paint's wet which takes a day or two or more. And the rest of their B******g and moaning is pure B******T too, but not directed at me. We can't afford an empty house, but we also can't keep sane if people are going to be Afts about not getting their way and being rude about it. Legal council? Disturbing the peace, by making YOUR DOG bark because she heard a car in the street? Of course, you guys only get my side of things, so I'm slightly biased.

What's that? Oh, sorry, my hot air seems to be melting the midnight snack. Sorry guys.

Writing an HO bio for Elliot's how's this sound? A Diner that travels the country, using it's monthly (or more maybe) concert-like moves by rail as an ad gimmick, and highly popular because of it. Founder Elliot found the interest of railfans in the food, but was amazed that cuisine hunters also found the diner an inteesting take on the old railcar diners aside the national roads. Now, for the money to get a Triple Unit Diner and do this puppy. I wosh someone would hire a teenager... "You need work experience" "How do I get it without someone hiring me? I have plenty of volunteer stuff..."

Good Morning,

I am in a miserable mood - I feel, well, maybe wasted is the right word. I  am up to doing this:

A gray day, with temps not much more than 35 F. Wish I could be doing something useful, but I still lack some inspiration to wo*k on Ken´s track plan.

I am not a good company today.
