Nerm, Wikki says this "GE is currently performing electrical work and changing out the original 7HDL engines with a new 6,000 hp (4,500 kW) GEVO-16 engines on several CSXT..." but it says it for units 606, 620, 628 and 640. Maybe those units you are or undergoing similar work. Still a bit odd for equipment that isn't even 20 to undergo overhauls like that

Interesting.

I beleave that one or two of the units are what you mentioned (I think CSX 606 was a few units back in the photo that showed the whole line),  but I'll have to check. That would make sence (at least, a lot more sence than what I have come up with.)

I got no clue what to make of it now. It definately would be an interesting scene for a layout.

EDIT: I'm at the top again. Everything's on me.

Evenin' folks!

Flo just a decaf and a chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup on it for me.

O.K, you can have the blue plate special, and the apple pie. But no alcohol, unless it's from a domestic supplier. If you want imported stuff, you got to pay that tab on your own.

NERM!!!  Domestic Supplier?  You must not be paying attention.  Thee Wine List this month will only consist of some of the best wines in the world!  All locally grown and made right here in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State.  None of these wines have a drop of Foreign stuff (like from California, or some other "foreign" place..WhistlingLaugh)  The list at the moment is all Anthony Road Winery wines.  They are located just South of Geneva, NY on Rte.14.  Only Finger Lakes Grapes are used and most are Estate grown on the hillsides right on Seneca Lake.  Hey, This is a high class establishment we are running here! Big Smile  Anthony Road only carries and sells their own wines....

Been a long day of w*rk at the computer.  Got a lot accomplished, the financial report for the MLK Committee tonight, the agenda for Deacons on Wednesday, and the draft of the flier for the NMRA Fall Meet in a few weeks.  I have to get THAT printed and in the mail to the membership in the next couple of days.  I am just waiting for a response from one guy to have it completed.

Tomorrow I plan to spend most of the day w*rking on the module for the Merit Award.  Also have to can some green beans, and freeze some cauliflower.

Hope you are all having a great evening!  (Domestic supplier, really!) GrumpyLaugh

Since you have top honors, I'll have the blue plate special..apple pie ala mode for dessert ...and, uh, oh what the heck, a glass of wine from Ray's wine list...

O.K, you can have the blue plate special, and the apple pie. But no alcohol, unless it's from a domestic supplier. If you want imported stuff, you got to pay that tab on your own.

Drinks such as {cocktails} or wine are rarely served here, the Beer Barn  does a good job of that. But they ARE available.  But since "howmus" RAY introduced us to a list Of NY State Finger Lakes Wines {yes Domestic stuff} a few pages ago,  I thought I'd at least have a glass...which I very rarely ever do-my tab or yours. It helps to ocassionally upgrade teh diner and offer some of the  finer stuff, which NYS wines are highly rated these days. I believe we are second in the country for producing fine wines, behind CA, natch, but catching up. I think some NY wines actually beat out CA's last Wine event.

AS I said there are no calories, no cholesterol here in THIS diner and alcohol has little effect {neither does the "bucket of coffee" have any caffeine},so one can go home "fat and happy and sober adn jittery-less"!

So now, that I have digested the blue plate special and the pie ala mode, I will have a good ole' batch of southern fried chicken with a boat of cheesy fries with a BIG mug of hot tea to go with it for a "midnight snack" on your second tab, TY.

Sit for a spell and have a glass {of something} with me and tell us more about yourself.

BTW it's still here in Upstate NY and is expected to for the next two days also so make sure you all have your handy.

Well, I think it is for so I will call it a night after my southern fried chicken !

Good evening!  Susan and I just got back from our Cape May (NJ) trip.  My friend got married in the blowing rain!  Beautiful ceremony though!

To answer the question posed: "Is Keolis/VRE still hiring?"   The answer is yes, BUT, (isn't there ALWAYS a but!!!)  They prefer to hire experienced Conductors/Engineers from other railroads... But who's to say that they won't hire from the street???  Not hard to learn to be a passenger conductor, just need to be good at learning physical characteristics and rules!

I am not scheduled to work until this coming friday, for which one of the regular engineers is using a vacation day!  Then I work again on Sunday, for what is called Clifton Days!  They are erecting a temporary "platform" at the grade crossing which in located smack dab in the middle of Clifton Interlocking!  Should be interesting to see how the spotting goes for THAT!!!  We run a schedule from 9am to 6pm that day, only going between Manassas Station and Burke Centre (I think I am remembering this info correctly Hmm)

Anyway, just ordered the 2011 issues of Great Model Railroads and Model Railroad Planning!  Can't wait to get my hands on those puppies!

Also, someone asked (sorry I can't remember who...) will I still be doing the MRR thing now that I am a Class I Locomotive Engineer?  The answer to said question is a resounding YES!  I don't plan on giving up my hobby for anything...

Ulrich- My condolences to you and your friends family.  You and they will be in our prayers.

Well, off to do some OTHER stuff!  Have a great evening!

Hello ..

The Diner certainly has been busy today.

I'm glad Wolfgang brought the roast lamb, but the chow hounds have eaten all of it. Well, I did enjoy Wolfgang's photo, and I hope he returns here in the diner soon.

Chris.. Nice photos of what may have been mating season for CNW GP15's. Looks like they were just starting the kissing part.

Ulrich ... I'm very sorry to learn about your loss of a very good friend. I looked at the video you linked of Swiss railway and enjoyed it. It reminded me of riding on the Pikes Peak Cog Railway.

David P  ... Good to see you again.

Bill T ... You were up so early you beat Ulrich.

N E Rail .. The second photo had a caption briefly described work on the CSX 600 series units. Thanks for posting.

Sam ... Good to hear you like the job and you will continue with the hobby. There are some railroad employees I remember who did not think much of model railroading or railfanning. I did not understand people like that.

Todd .. glad you can relax with movies. I can't. Every movie I see bores me within 5 or 10 minutes. I think old movies are much better than today's movies.

Did anyone watch Howdy Dowdy when they were a kid?

Happy Model Railroading!

Garry,

I understand just a little bit, as there are several of us 1:1 scale Railroaders who have to hide our MRR stuff from the rest of out co-workers...  Some railroaders seem to think that if you like model railroads, you are a "Buff", "Foamer", "Rail-Fan" in the MOST extreme sense of the word!  When it is, as in most cases, the few that take it TOO extreme THAT cause the rest of us to get the knicknames...

Oh well, just have to live and let live!

Well, I had best be hopping off to bed before my eyes roll in the back of my head involuntarily!

Good night my friends!  Chloe, may I please have a warm glass of milk to go?  Thanks!

Sam

Good Morning Everyone,

I overslept - well, not really. I could not find a good night´s rest and stayed up until 4 am, just too many bad thoughts in my head. The sudden death of my MRR buddy Wolfgang really caught me - how fragile life is!

Zoe, I need a bucket of coffee to get me going today, thank you.

Sam - it was me, who asked that question. In Germany, quite a lot of the railroad men are also into the hobby of MRRing, actually, I believe they form the largest group among us. No need to hide your interest from your co-workers.

Garry - that Rhaetian Railway is certainly something! It is a huge network of 1000 mm narrow gauge line, running on 10kV AC - with the exception of the Bernina line, which runs on 1000 V DC. This line sports tram-like curves, tunnels with a full circle, likewise viaducts - just like a huge model railroad. In fact, I believe that when HE created Switzerland, he had a model railroad in mind!

Ken - no harm done! Unfortunately, our monthly "allowance" does not provide sufficient funds for anything else than buying our food, pay the energy bill and our telephone/internet. There is absolutely no room for anything extra other than about $ 30/month for gas. I don´t know , for how long I will be able to keep our car, which my father bought us. It still makes me raving mad to be "condemned" to poverty after 30 years of hard work. I´d better step off the soapbox, though...

Ray - I was not aware that upstate NY is a wine growing area. The wine must be pretty good stuff, as none of it finds its way into our super markets.

Any news from Keith? Jerry? Bama?

You all have a good day!

Retirement is fine!

My wife and I had a walk with the dog, usually 2 hours. Now it's time for lunch.

In the evening is railroad again at the schedule. I have still to prepare something for the next FREMO meeting I want to participate.

This will be a big event. 20 years FREMO Netherlands. There will be participants from different European countries and different scales, from N to II.

Good cold morning.  The high will be only about 50 degrees.

I have to go to the DENTIST this morning Dead  Angry  Super Angry  Bang Head  Crying.   I thought I could chew some gum, but I think I pulled out a tooth filling.

Got the Neon back yesterday and the check engine light was on due to a "crank shaft" sensor.   I read on-line yesterday that the 2005 Neon have bad sensors and they go bad all the time.   Each person on the website says they get it fixed and back in the shop for the same thing two-three days later!!!   I have no idea what to do when my cars does  that!!!

Well I better eat since my face will be numb in a hour or so!!!

I will be back in later.

Good morning All,

50's and rain again today and supposedly for the rest of the week.  Road trip to Nova Scotia this weekend (I'll wave to DerJohn and Fergie and Luc as we drive by Halifax) to celebrate my moms' 90th birthday. Since the Canadian Government can't produce her paperwork in time she can leave on her US passport but couldn't return legally so we had to cancel the celebration we had been planning for a year at my brothers' in Massachusetts. Think of it as sort of a busmans holiday as it's an 18hour drive each way now that the Bar Harbor/ Yarmouth ferry is discontinued.

Off to the railway museum again tonight to put down more iNvisible track for the display. Keeps my hand in while planning the next move at home.

It seems odd that CSX would have nearly new locomotives disassembled out in the weather. Can their traffic be down enough that they've gotten rid of the locos to replace with newer more efficient units? Could as (I think) Vincent suggested they be getting updates from some "outsourced" supplier or even converted to specifications for export? When we were in Montreal we did see new locos on the docks in shrink wrap awaiting sea shipment so it's possible some country overseas is building up they're rolling stock (sort of like the fate of Ulrichs' Mercedes). If anyone finds out more inquiring (nosey) people would like to know.

Ulrich - sorry to hear of your friends death. Our prayers for him and his family.

Ok Steven - Good morning to you and what the heck is a pecan kringle? (some kind of Santa nutcase?)

Time to get back in the shop - the Amilcar awaits me. The bodywork goes out to the blasters today for paint removal and the chassis frame is not far behind.    CUL, J.R.

Good morning. It's 48 and clear. The high will be 78 and it will be sunny.

The past few weeks I've been doing a lot of nothing. Now, for the past few days I've been picking on a couple of GP30's I just happen to have laying around. I'm not doing much to them, just adding a little paint here, a decal there. These are the Bachmann GP30's so there's not much detail on them, somewhat like Athearn blue box.

Good Morning,

I’m trying to catch up from this weekend. I have several projects that need to be done out in the garage; backdrops and trees.  I think at my current rate of progress I’ll be wearing a parka while making my trees, LOL.  The 3M spray is a bit over powering for basement use.

derJohn (from the September Diner) Not sure where you’re going with you metal plant but something to think about for expanding the layout without expanding it. I have installed transfer tracks at various locations that act as a drop off point for trains (simulating spurs) for “off layout” steel industries.  Unfinished metal from the mill comes in one of 4 forms; Plate, Sheet, Wire, or Tube. The plate from the BOF is sent to a rolling mill to be turned into rolls of sheet metal then shipped to heat treating facility, and then it goes to the Ford stamping plant.  Then Ford loads gondolas with the scrap sheet metal and it’s sent to the steel mill’s BOF to be melted into plate steel. The plate steel is sent to the rolling mill to be turned into sheet metal…… and the circle of railroad life continues.  On the north coast of Ohio the stamping plants are in Maumee and the steel plants are in Lorain, Cleveland, and Youngstown.  My layout is set conveniently in the middle in a rural area.

Ok it’s off to Civil Rights training this morning for me, wish me luck…..

Morning guys

Bucket of coffee, some corned beef hash and two scrambled eggs and two fluffy buttermilk pancakes and what the heck two sausage links and a  biscuit with sausage gravy.

It's still here so bring your . There is no but it is a cold chilly drizzle. Will be for a few days sometiems wants to make me .

I get to go see the general Surgeon today to find out if he wants to do a biopsy on the possible necrotic {dead} tissue in my lumbar back. I hope he does. The second MRI didn't even mention the anomoly so the reader must have glossed over it or wasn;t as experienced as the first MRI Reader. so I don't know.

I do know my back is NOT getting better with the injections from the CPR! I use the cane around the house now unless I have something else ot lean on. The oxy and Vic. are not doing the job either. have to go see my GP next week and see about getting something new? Other half said if my back keeps on as it is that we will ask either GP or CPR Dr. about handcapped window hanger. I agree.

GOt a new SHARK Steam Mop yesterday at Bed Bath and Beyond with 20% off coupon. The one witht the triangle head, two rectangle heads and the fluffy carpet cleaner. IT worked ok in the kitchen, but doesnt really do the corners well, even with teh corner attacthement. I could lean on it while i used it as it as push/pull pumping action to make the steam. TOday if up to it, I do the hall floor in front of washer/dryer/bath. Then maybe tomorrow scour the bathroom floor. GOt to do the entry wy too. Except the corners, it did a great job at cleaning the floor! I recommend one if you have such hard surface floors to clean. A Swiffer does not even touch the steam mop! and the heads are machine washable. Keep in mind for a xmas present for the wives! It was $129.99 with 20% off in mail coupon! so $103.99 plus tax. WEll worth it. I plan to use it only about once a month rotating my floors weekly...so one floor gets thoroughly steamclean once a month beyond vaccuuming....don't know if my back can take more. I gues to thoroughly get teh corners I will get on hands and knees and use the SHark protable steamer and a cloth. Now if I can only get back up for being on my knees!

I Hope NERM is happy with teh Finger Lakes Wine list and has tried some UNLESS he has a problem in that area. DOn't want to encourage those with problems.

I see Jeffrey W. has been in the diner! GOOd to see him! We have missed him. Hope his foot feels as good as possible.

{both angels} for thoughts and prayers for Jeffrey AND all who need them!

WEll off to try the floor in the hall before my back really starts screaming at me.

Ut oh, I think I hear other half unloading dishwasher that is my job I better go attend to it! no need for consternation to happen here! OOps wrong...just making noises making eggs for breakfast.

Good luck Lee.  Wonder how it would have w..ked had Ford been able to build it's Willow Run plant to actually build cars? IIRC it was to have the capability to take in the raw materials and turn out complete cars with its own steel making plant, casting facility, etc. Might make a nice "what if" diorama.  J.R.

Good morning, Chloe.  I will have my usual coffee and cinnamon roll.  How about that one with lots of gooey frosting.

I started on my trees yesterday.  Today, I  need to cut more furnace filters.  It has probably been over a year since I made any so the precut filters were buried under the layout.

My ballasting has dried enough to clean the track and vaccuum, and also run a loco to verify that it is clean.

Later,

Sue

Good Morning! Gonna be a long day today. Moved wrong while brushing the ole teeth and…. Yup you guessed itCrying. Good news is only the left side seems to be affected so, might not last but today or a bit into tomorrow if I‘m careful.

Good to see Sue is stopping in again.

Ulrich- Sorry buddy. This one wasn’t meant for you either I guess. Yes I will place your friends family and friends in my prayers

Vincent- No, it’s not right to laugh at someones misfortune. That being said, I would have laughed my paaaa-tootie off having to pull over and finish doing a “it’s about time” dance along the side of the road.

Wolfgang- Welcome I have admired your work for quite sometime.

I need an appliance mover. Now, I’m going to need this thing on 3 different days, not consecutive. It will be about the same money to buy one than to rent. Actually cheaper taking in consideration the gas to travel to the rental place in Spfld and back 3 times. No.... 6 times. So I found one at Menard’s. Now I’m not gonna use this thing like a pro mover will so I don’t need a fancy aluminuminum-inum mover that costs $2.50 less than a Mercedes Benz of the same year. BUT, I don’t want it to be so cheap it explodes on first contact with an appliance. Then I think .., Harbor Freight. Not the highest quality stuff, but depending on how you use stuff, many items are AOK. Take the airbrush for instance. Now you have probably heard me from time to time here or elsewhere, discount online reviews for various reasons, many involving not actual users and only a certain group usually responds to these soo…not that reliable of a source. ANYWAY, I still read them anyway and make my decision based on the types of replies I see. THIS time I choose to go with the reviews on the Harbor Freight one and not drive deeep into Springfield to save about $40.00. Most, referred to the same problems one of which is the wheels breaking (not something I want to happen on my new wood looking floor) If your curious why I choose to pass, check out the reviews.

Best get going. The grocery trucks will arrive and I kinda want to get my dolly first. Might checka and see what, if anything Lowe’s has.(across the street from Maynerd's) Maybe I can save a buck or two since the thing will take the remainder of the hobby cash left after the camera. Oh well, I didn’t have the money before I started putting back the last time so I guess I can start again.

Y’all have a Great Day now ya hear?!!!

Good morning friends!

Chloe, may I please have a LARGE RBF, Two eggs scrambles with whole wheat toast and three strips of bacon done just enough to be slightly crispy but still "flexible"?  Thanks!

I have become addicted to a new "toy" I found over the weekend in Cape May.  Tell me if you've heard of these: Bucky Balls.  They are little magnetic spheres, or ball bearings as they look to me...  And you use them to make complex shapes!  I spent the better part of last night trying to figure out how to create the "Cube"!  Extremely Eddictive, BE WARNED!!! Lol

Well, I am back on the extra board after marking back up for duty last night.  I am not needed until 8pm tonight, when I will report to Broad Run Yard in order to switch out some equipment!  Lovely day outside here in Manassas, Virginia, a beautiful sunny 48 degrees out there!  I'll be at the RC for a while.  Want to cruise The Bay to see what's what!  Hopefully find a steal!

(EDIT)  Wolfgang!  Just caught up on post's!   Good to see new faces mixing in with the "Usual Suspects"! Lol

I survived the training…..

GMT that would be interesting,  I was thinking if I ever gained more real estate for the layout I would like to have a steel mill on the layout.  Maybe in 5 years if I keep my nose to the grindstone I’ll have the 3 bedroom ranch I want.

Jeff those decals turned out ok.  I have a friend coming out to repair my ALPS printer this month so I hope to be back in the decal making work soon.

Sue, have you tried the circle cutter for the furnace filters?  I bought one from the scrapbooking section of JoAnn’s for the “first cut” process.

Todd,  Thanks for "Hi".

Sam,  You have such strange taste.  I would never consider root beer with eggs.Laugh

Lee,  I will check out the cutter next I am in there.  I usually put the squares on and trim them before I apply ground foam.  How do your trees look with  the rounds?

Robby P,  Being a hygienist,  I know that most people get stable once the restorative is complete.  Continue regular visits to your dental hygienist and the work lasts longer.  On another note,  What do you use to oxidize box cars?

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have a short stack of Buckwheat Pancakes (with NYS Pure Maple Syrup, of course) and a bucket of dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR mug.  I'll go sit in the front booth and see what is going on outside in the rain this morning.

Looks like there is a tour of the depot...

Robby, what's THAT you are saying?  Can't seem to understand you this morning...???  Sounds like you went to the dentist and have a numb face.... LOL  Huh?  Oh!  Sorry, I guess you went to the dentist and DO have a numb face.......  (Wish I would remember to think before I speak!)

Some light rain and kind of chilly here in Pittsburgh today. We had to do a little more grocery shopping today, and afterwards stopped at and had breakfast. Also stopped and filled up the tank because I forgot to do it yesterday. A costly mistake for sure, as the price of gas in my area went up about seven cents since yesterday morning. OUCH!

Not much going on except some chores that need doing. Oh yeah, I'm expecting delivery of an Atlas Genset today. I ordered one in Norfolk Southern paint to go into my collection of Western Pennsylvania rolling stock & locomotives. I've read that many don't like the looks of them, but I do. Hope to see a prototype one of these days. Maybe the next trip up to Altoona I'll spot one.

Hope everybody has a great day.

I Hope NERM is happy with teh Finger Lakes Wine list and has tried some UNLESS he has a problem in that area. DOn't want to encourage those with problems.

Now I know it's all domestic.

No thanks, not for me. I'm only 16, under the legal age for alcohol consumption.

I'll buy it for you, but you have to use your own ID to get the stuff.

EDIT: I just realized I'm not at the top of a page no more. Disregard the above, and go back to your normal programing)

Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood Afternoon, plate of cheeseburgers with a bucket of Coke please 'n thankya.

TODD is playing with dollies now??? Oh......... I see.

ROBBY P: Here's some extra napkins, helps with THAT post-dental w**k drool condition.

NERM: Glad the "mating" geep 15s pic helped. I don't have any top-shots, but if'n you've got the Model Railroader drawings from... 90-something, THAT should be a big help to ya.

GARRY: Geesh! I didn't (at the time) think of them GP15-1s as mating....didn't realize I was getting the initial phase of EMD courtship/mating rituals! Now I feel....dirty...like a Rail-***-O-Grapher!!!!!

Just back from the big mission of the day: picking up and deposting the paycheck. We'll see how long this one lasts... I took Rerun with me, he loves playing co-pilot.

Have a good day,

Chris

Trainman Sam

Eh, I was partially kidding. Sounds like a fun place to work. Been doing the Conductor license at ITM, I figure GCOR 4 (outdated) and limited trains is still about the same amount of introductory a mechanic or a lawyer gets in College for their fields...

Ah, spotting. We consider roads to be "wide". Some of our "stations" involve plywood placed to smooth the transition from roadgrade to the ground. Last weekend was Pumpkin train, and though we hit every platform dead on, the station stops took quite a bit of creeping to do so. You know how it is, know your conductor, learn your steed, and come into there as slowly as you can without tieing up the railroad. Hopefully you get a Con that'll give you a "That'll do when you get her stopped" and not "That'll do THERE!"

Vincent, sounds like that jerk had it coming. Also, that's funny what your bro did. and $200, good deal man.

Sam, I want the 2011 GMR, I wouldn't mind seeing the MRP as well but I'll probably end up getting just the GMR.

Well, not doing much today. I have a decent amount of homework, but I've gotta go to my sister's volleyball game.
