Yeah, like GG said, when in doubt, add more. The only way you could possibly use too much is if you submerge the model in a container of it...

--------------------------------

Thanks, Taylor!

And congrats John! You're 10% of the way there

--------------------------------

Over the past two days, I've been doing a little more on the model, mostly adding more white and orange striping, and fixing the tri-colors as best I can. I'm out of orange and tri-color striping, and I don't really want to do the other side without it (unless I just do around the cab...), so I might be done for a while. The back end is pretty boring, so you don't need to see that, but I'll post a photo if you guys really want it . Anyway's here it is so far:

EDIT: Just found out that the Atlas Gensets were due to ship to dealers yesterday. About time! Only TEN MONTHS Late, NBD...

You really can't overdue the application of micro-sol. It doesn't matter how much that you put on, you just need to be careful about handling or bumping the decal after that, because the decal will get stretched, and stay stretched. A stiff brush is good for pushing the decal onto rivets and door latches after the micro sol is applied.

John, glad to hear man!

Tyler, live and learn man. I think I did try that and it worked. I probably lathered on too much at times though.

 Guilford Guy:

Micro Sol is your friend! Apply half a dozen liberal coats to the decal area of the course of a few days and it should melt into the grooves.

I actually have some micro sol, but being the idgit I am I put it on before applying the decal. don't think it worked out too well.

You can still put it on after the fact...

Here's what the shell is looking like as of now:

Not even close to done, and not perfect, but it's not too bad. It looks like the striping is missing in places, but it's not. It's rediculously hard to get those tiny decals in those grooves!

Mental Note: Dont get Sawyer angry. Smile, Wink & Grin

Not much to report. I tried to update my blog and lay some flextrack, just to find I didnt have rail joiners. That is one thing I might have to learn about flextrack. Bang Head oops.

yesir, I'm not that violent unless it's on a rugby pitch or similar playing field for sports, however. and usually when I'm rested I let a lot of stuff go. but catch me really tired or really stressed, I can be a real pain in the rear

Ah, rail joiners. those things are pains in the rear. And I'll need some new ones, although I'll be attaching a feeder to each length of flextrack, hopefully. just makes life easier. and I'll be wiring blocks, so that should make it easier to wire up

Taylor, I hear ya man, we all want better use of space.

Well, got my writing assignment for the curcible; it's a portfolio. we have to pick FIVE of the assignments. but there's a few that are worth 2, and I'll be doing one of those more than likely; creating a website for the Salem Witch Trials. and if I do a research paper on that as well, I can kill three birds with one stone.

Alex, SWEET units!

As to me being the fellow with the ball on my homepage, no such luck. Here are a few pic sof me from our game agaisnt Irmo last spring though (I'm #4, and I have a scrum cap and Under armor cleats)

Trying to make a flying tackle (barely missed and then he juked the other player and scored a try):

This is my favorite pic, I love my face in this

going for the tackle

Ooooooh, purdy!

Ok, so I realized that I kinda messed up on the PL42. However, it is fixable, and won't cost me any extra money.
Apparently, there's a black stripe along the bottom edge that I never noticed before, so I went ahead and put the orange striping along the bottom edge. So I had to remove the orange stripe from the edge, and I'll have to paint it black, and then add the orange striping above the black. I need a new decal set for the tricolor striping anyway, and now I'm going to need it for the orange as well. No big deal, just a little bit of lost time.

I'll have photos of what's done either later this evening or tomorrow.

Yup! 902, 1500, 1501, and 1300 are pretty much set for shipment to WRS, though I need to scrounge around the floor of my room for the rear headlight housing on 1300... Confused I may be free next weekend if you want to run some trains, and this will be good because I'm looking to sell a bunch of weathered cars to you and/or Steve so you can pick out what you want. I'll also be collecting my mad bills. It's always nice to have monies.

I spy something new on WRS locos...renumbered locos.......WITH NUMBERBOARDS! Smile, Wink & Grin I have to admit that, despite my earlier fears, the red cab looks pretty nice, especially with the new all-caps lettering. They definitely look the many years younger than the rest of the fleet that they are. And that blue boxcar looks snazztacular!

WRS power running through the best scenery known to man. Stick out tongue

And some weathered stuff. The Centerbeam still needs to have straps added on the load.

Ya but i want to like it is a very good layout for my little cousins because it is a circle with three switches but has no operation at all. It is also a 4x8 and I want something alittle bigger but alittle thinner so I can reach against the back of it and also with legs so its not on sawhoreses. Ya, scarlet letter- 10x worst than every book in the world besides frankenstein. And that wouldn't happen to be you on the top of your website would it, with the ball?

Taylor, you don't even have to start over. only reason I am is it's time to move beyond the 4x8 sheet of ply and have something more space-efficient. And I asked my dad about the Scarlett Letter, now I'm agreeing with you on that. lord. and thanks, I reworked it Saturday

Ya, maybe I will fianlly get this finished and will be able to start over bigger and better, most likely just better though. And nah, scarlett letter is the worst. Nice page btw.

Back to corrections! Crying

Taylor, hey, I'll probably be happy to get to that book after the essay for the crucible. Glad to hear you have some kits, looking forward to hearing about some model railroading!

Well, the CSRY history continues on. I have a page for it here, and will post thoughts revisions etc on it here, updating the page when something sticks

Joe, tell me if ya see snooki while your at the shore JK!

Sawyer, have fun with that, the crucible is like gold compared to the scarlett letter.

So I got Merchants row 1 + 2 today and will be building my first ktis soon. I also got a builtup atlas roadside inn restraaunt building and tree kit and switch extenders for my switches. Whoo big list and first time in a year I have been to the LHS. Eve nthough it is a 40 minute drive in good traffic and only open m-sat and sunday usually works best for me. Will hopefully finally get some pixs of my layout, it is in the almost finished and then renovated to make it 100x better phrase.

Well have test corrections to doBang Head why did I miss so many

Well you guys probably don't remember me, but I was here when we first started this whole Teen Movement on the forums, back 3-4 years ago, with Holmes, Hicks, Noah and others. I'm 18 and in my first year of college now, and have matured a ton since i started here. No offense, but reading your guys conversations, its makes me reminisce about my earlier years.

I feel exactly the same way... I was also around 3 (I think it was 3) years ago when we started the original TMRP. Unfortunately, I think it's turned into a teen version of the Coffee Shop or whatever they call it now, not a thread about modeling. That's why I rarely post anymore - my social life happens in meatspace. But anywhooo...

Welcome back, Max!

Ditto...I think we all have changed in three years, it's pretty amazing really.

Welcome back Max, would you be talking about James? I haven't talked to him in ages! It's too bad the IC&E didn't work out for him, but at least he's still working. 6102 is also a very nice choice, that's one of my favorite units.

Taylor, our next novel is The Scarlett Letter

Joe, sounds nice man.

Well, I think I've found a use for my GP9; I'll hopefully buy the resin kit for a CF7 and make a CF7 out of it. That way I have my roadswitcher and I can fit it into my CSRY history.

"To save some costs of buying U23Bs, the CSRY rebuilt 10 of their 14 F units into CF7s. The remaining 4 F units continue to service in mainline freight today."

I'm also thinking of several other history points for the CSRY. I think this will be my next major project.

Wildwood is one of the (many) major vacation spots along the Jersey Shore. This weekend is Beach Jam (with boy scouts), and we'll be camping on the beach and doing some merit badges.

The PL42 is fully painted and partly decaled. However, I messed up some of the decals, and there are no spares, so I'll have to get another set. But there's still lots of striping and numbers, etc. that I can still do with this sheet. I'll have photos at the end of the weekend.

Hey Everyone,

Long List Today!

Alex, nice vid, I think I may of learned a bit of weathering.

Sawyer, I liked the crucible too, like better then the scarlett letter becasue it didn't have any of the language from back in the day.

John, good luck and atleast there good, I need to try a regualr kit first!

Max, Welcome Back!  It nice to meet one of the founding fathers of this forum and that awesome on the Kato Deal!

Joe, what is wildwood? Keep forgetting to ask and oh man, anything beforee 6 is crazy to me.

Welcome, Max! While I wasn't around when this place was started, I know you from the prototype side of the forums! That's really neat about your Kato deal!

Like everyone said, this thread has recently kinda turned away from modeling for a while because no one is really doing a whole lot. But I'm finally beginning to start back up.

Like John, I'm also working on my first craftsman kit, a PL42AC from Island Model Works. So far, I have the entire shell, sideframes, and fuel tank painted, minus touchup paint. Next step will be to add the grilles and fans, followed by decals, and then it will be done. I'll won't be getting the powered frame until Christmas, but at least the model will be 100% complete by the time that comes around.

I am also in the process of painting two locomotives for Tri State Rail. GP9m 1201 is finally being repainted into TSR colors, and will be the first locomotives in Phase II paint (while I don't have anything painted in Phase I, once I finally buy 4000 or 4001 [not quite sure which one yet, but not important], they will have been painted into Phase I "at an earlier point in time").
4100 is also being "rebuilt" into 4300 (see GP50 Rebuild Program). In reality, I threw out the crappy Bachmann high hood, and I bought a Athearn BB short hood, and that is will become 4300, rebuilt with a low hood. However, I don't have decals, which is part of the reasoning why I said the rebuilds would take so long on the website.

Well, I'm off to Wildwood bright and early (well, maybe not exactly bright that early) at 5:30 tomorrow morning, so have a good and MRR-productive weekend!
