A very cool and rainy day here in Pittsburgh, but we had a nice weekend. Been a lucky couple of days too. First we went up to Camp Hill, PA for a great nephews birthday party on Saturday and were upgraded at the motel to a suite. Pretty nice. Then today I dropped my car off at the body shop (fender bender about a week ago) and the car rental upgraded us to a Chrysler Town & Country minivan. Since I'm not a very lucky person, I've spent all day waiting for the other shoe to drop. So far, so good. Think I'll buy a lottery ticket tomorrow morning when I take my daily walk.

Tom

EDIT:   Just noticed I'm at the top of the page, so I guess breakfast will be on me in the morning. Eat hearty me lads, who knows when it will be my treat again.

Ugh, flu. By the Diner sure went through her turn quick. I'll leave Ray(?) the neccesary paperwork, CMPA is rather *Informal* about dispatching compared to the Chessie/CSX/B&O 30miles up the line at North Vernon, but he'll still need to sign dispatcher's papers. Least the Spatch is portable in his truck. Rest of the tools are in the underbelly too unblock the car as needed. I for one, cannot wait to see his muesum.

And remember guys, we were gonna take it to that museum next, we promised nice-like.

I'll be catching up by the scanner. I cannot wait to hear Chessie getting permissions for a 45tonner on ther 50mph line. We may hve to push to speed it up.

Morning guys,  Coffee please, with Splenda

Chilly,Storm, Umbrella for a No day.Angry Grr! Posed to be only in the 50s later this weekend and Storm Umbrella too.

Well the pain shot injections fo rmy back actually made the pain worse I think, and naturally I bruised at teh injection sites. I seem to have less flexibility and tolerance for movement than before the injections. And it has not removed the need for hte Oxycontin and Vicodin, if fact the injection Dr told me to keep taking them,,, that shounds a bit odd. I thought the idea was to eliminate the other pain killers. So I've been doing a lot of lying down and not much else . I can do only one chore a day, if I do two I get overstressed on my back and have to lie down.Geeked

WEnt to one of those auto liquidation sales thingys they send you in the mail with a scratch off number and a key to see if you won a new car. i knew there were no guarantees and lots of catches and chances at chances of winning, but the  other half was jumping for joy it said we might have won $100K so I went too. THe only thing we won was a chance to win a 42" TV or "grab that dough air booth" up to $1K cash if you could grab that much. We litterally have NO ROOM for a 42" TV nor do we want one so we didn't go back fo the later drawing onthe TV. WE just bought the KIA Sedona and can;t afford two car payments. SO it was a moot point to show us anything also hte cars the sales lady was showing us were 2008 and newer and as it was we could only afford the 06 Kia, so I knew they were out of league. HAd she listened to the fact that I said we wanted a payment of $200 or LESS there might have been a possibility, but not what she was showing us in vehicles. No

My credit is very very good, other half nto so much as we have a few medical bill collections to try to clear up if we can ever figure out who should properly be paid for those. FOr some bills, insurance says they cannot bill you as they don't participate in the plan and the labs should not have performed the service,, but we think those are the ones who turned into collections, which technically they don't then have a right to do according to insurance. We would like to clear these matters up and boost other half's solo credit rating by an individual auto installment loan that I am not a cosigned nor coapplicant on so that when we apply for a mortgage down the road we will both have excellent scores and will get a better mortgage. Rihgt now our rate would be dragged down by the lower credit score rather than my higher score. Paying the Kia loan every 3 weeks helps to boost my credit scroe as well somewhat as I pay back on time/early. ANy way you look at it, I HATES payments, so the fewer the better! Whistling

well, i have missed a few days as in back pain and laying down. WOn't try to catch up.

Thanks to all for b-day wishes!!!!!!!!! Cake   Dind't get any Gift, but wasn't expecting any as we don't generally do b-day presents except to fine dine Dinner out. SOme ideas have been floated about for xmas, but not much we are doing xmas on the cheap this year. I already got other half a GG1 Tuscan Red {fav color} in Nscale to run around under the tree, as that is one thing that was wanted. GOt it back in May as it was available then and I didnt take chances on it.

Other half looking forward to more hours at work hopefully as split departments want coverage, so that good news.

WEll, I go have more Coffee now

Good Morning All,

72 and rainy this AM with thunderboomers later. Means the old pup will be trying to wedge himself into some impossible place again (he really hates the loud noises but is front and center when I crank the stereo at home). Oh, thanks and a donut with that coffee please, Zoe

Had a productive weekend getting the Focus mobile again (still need a fender and nose cone) and starting on the CFO's Ram 50 (brakes and frozen clutch). Got the storm door done at the house and a bunch of tidy up items clicked off the HD list. More steps to cleaning out a new train room.

On the camera front, I like the Nikon but agree the Canon is probably the better unit for the money. Both are heavily discounted by the chains so look for a "special sale". The live view stuff is good, but a feature i really like is the one on the CFOs' pro shot where the screen twists around so you can have the camera at a wierd angle and still see the screen. My little 3.2mp sure shot as all auto focus but has a section in the menu (when Ican find it) that allows you to designate a section of the screen to concentrate the focus so hopefully you avoid the out of focus main subject. Still easier to use an SLR to do action shots.

Ray - the lineup of coal cars is great. Looks a lot like the section just north of Corning where they have a bunch of them tied up. I think the coal is for the glassworks there. THAT yard feeds down to a wye that connects to trackage running parrellel to rt17 . Not sure who used to run there, but towards Binghamton this year there was lots of traffic.

G - it might be fun to see who actually wins some of these come-ons. Before the housing boom collapsed it was all about getting traffic into the model homes in East Arid Arizona (free tumbleweed with every unit). Wink

Chris - nice shot - no wonder it won a prize. Nothing like trying to preserve life and limb to help compose the shot.

Ken - did you scuff the cabinets to get the paint to adhere better? I agree with the $13.00 paint and multiple coats thing. Do you need primer first? and definitely shape the trim to the ceiling. Last thing you need is a fine coating of plaster dust throughout the affected area. Sounds like you live by one of my mottos - "no job too easy to turn into a project".  If you are daring and the ceiling is smooth, you can try holding the trim up against the corner and tracing with a pencil held against the ceiling to get an idea of how much to trim and where. Easier said than done with a long piece of trim up in the corner of the ceiling (and probably over the counter as well?).

Time to pick up tools and get to it in the shop. Catch y'all later.   J.R.

Good rainy morning.  Seems like the northern part has rain all day!!

Well I gotta run by some stores this morning, and work on some more cars.   The train show got my payment yesterday, so I need to get the ball rolling more.   As of right now, they have me at a great spot at the show.  A lot of traffic!!!

 Sawyer.......That's a neat shot!!!

I will be back in later.

Good Morning! Got up late this morn. Didn’t awake until 7:30. Gotta run.

Camera works great so far. Took a few pictures of Mom’s house for her to look at when I go in today. It appears in auto focus mode, that it focuses es es on several points in the frame and averages them to come up with a happy medium? That sound right Ray? Guy told me not to read the instructions for a while. I have no problem with that. Actually I think I will. It has a pretty comprehensive owners manual that is indexed very well with reference pages AND the whole book is written in English. I think I can find something I want to know in that book easily as opposed to others out there. Like my PHONES!!!. WHICH, by the way, is almost as big as the cameras and just chock full of crrrrrAP I don’t care about. Buried in there somewhere is stuff on how to use the phone part. Gotta be. Just gotta be. Someday I’ll watch or listen to the DVD or CD they sent with it (camera). Don’t know what it is other than some round CD looking thing. Didn’t pay any attention. Could be one of them photo programs Canon is fond of sending out.

Y’all have a Great Day now ya hear?!!!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have the Eggs Benedict with sausage and lots of drak roast coffee in a FGLK Mug.

We got a few days before the move,  The 45 tonner is up and running (more or less) so she can do the virtual move when needed.  The diner will be put on track 4 so we can have parking across the road from the depot.

J. R. it looks like what it is.....Big Smile  The photos were taken from the High St. Ext. bridge going over the tracks.  We were on our way from Corning to Watkins Glen at the time.  Those tracks by NY Rt. 17 were at one time the Erie Lackawanna, before that it was the D. L. & W., Erie, and a couple other lines.  They connected with the Lehigh Valley in Waverly, NY on their way to points East.  THAT was my old stomping Grounds for my first 11 years teaching.....  The whole area had lots of rail service at one time.  Where the photo was taken in 1895 branched out to be a 9 track yard.  At this time I think only 2 tracks are still in service.....

Currently 71°F under fair skies and a forecast for more rain today.  I think most of the day will be spent down cellar doing what I can on the project I have started.

Catch you all later!

Thanks Ray,

As I've said before I drive by all this trackage and what looks like seldom used lines going to and from the Glen but never stop because I'm usually in the truck and/or running late. I will start to look for books on the area at the few train shows I go to as well as the museum (which is having a great 1/2 off used surplus books sale just now). Without knowing which railroads had the tracks I was hesitant to purchase just anything. Apparantly Sayre had a huge facility as well for repair but I wonder how much of THAT is left?    J.R.  Hello Madison IN

Flo, just a Dew for me.

J R that motto sure sound like my life here of late. I would have never thought the Mill Work would not fit! I am going to tack in the Mill Work and give it a good look and see how bad it does look. Good chances I am going to say the heck with it and leave it that way.

Far as the paint, I did hit the area of the cabinet I did paint with a 220 on a sanding block. Some of the brush mark's could have been left overs from when my wife painted it. I did not go out of my way to make it slick, it is in a area you really don't see.

Th highly visible area's I am going to use my DA, first with 120 grit then 320. That way there no old brush marks to show through.

Good aftrernoon friends!

Galaxy- We'll be praying for you.  Hopefully your back will be better in a "jiffy"!

Jeff- All this talk about faces for stuff, reminded me that I have been told numerous occasions that I have a face for radio and a voice for TV!

Packers- Awesome Rugby Shots!  Who is THAT madman wearing the helmet and go-tee?

Chris- Were you successful in evading the onslaught of muscle for THAT excellent action shot?

BTW- mention of painting gets me in a foul mood...  I prefer wall paper...  No matter HOW hard I try, with ANY type of brush, I wind up with "stroke" marks... maybe it's due to my perfectionism coming through and I try one too many strokes?  Not sure, but wall paper is able to be pulled back and reseated if not in just the right spot!

Just stopping in for a quick visit, as I have to be at work at 2:30pm.  I have my final check-ride today, for the CSX portion.  Once I get back from THAT, I have to switch out a "training" train.  Supposedly the Prince William County Police department is sending over a crew of K-9 officers as well as other elements of the force to do some exercises on the equipment.  I may or may not have to stick around to remove the equipment once they are finished, we shall see!  Today is my second day on the Engineers Extra Board, with no work yesterday...

Please wish me luck!  I am whole-heartedly looking forward to getting my Class I Locomotive Engineer Certificate!

Well, I must be going to get ready for aformentioned tour of duty!  Y'all have a great day!  I'll be back later to fill you in on all the details of the days going's-on's!

Sam

May He bless you, guide you, and keep you safe on your journey through life!

Hey guys

Got back from Texas late last night. Got to go to ride a train pulled by an RSD15, and even got to go inside the old ALCO. I have some pics and videos of the Alco and the train, haven't uploaded them yet. Also went to see the NHRA in Ennis. I had a blast while over there. I managed to see a bit of fallen flag stuf out there, couldn't get a picture in time for most of it. However a certaint ex CNW AC44CW managed to become a camera hog (the train ride stopped in a siding and the car I was in was right next to the ex-cnw GE for a good 4 or 5 minutes)

I did manage to hit a hobby shop while there. Picked up 2 athearn RTR PC&F 50' boxes in SP, a BN FMC covered hopper, 8 athearn trailers and a PFE TOFC car.

Galaxy and Barry, Happy belated birthdays

Garry, I like the WPF photo as well!

I'll be at the RC trying to catch up

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Ray, thanks! I'm not quite sure who took them, nobody ever told us. I actually found them browsing around on the facebook page a few weeks ago. Hey, the rugby pitch is where I get my violence out; some of my best practices and games have been when I had a chip on my shoulde ror was really ticked about something in my life. That framing looks really nice.

Morgan, that sucks about the flu man.

Robby, glad to hear the show is looking up. And I agree they're neat shots haha.

Sam, thanks man! Those things absolutely SUCK at protecting one's head though (I should know: one practice I knocked skulls with the same kid twice; first time I saw flashes of blue and orange). its main function is to keep one's ears from getting all cauliflowered up or ripped off (yes that happens, although it's RARE; it only happened to one kid last year and he was a back, so idk how in the world it happened). Hope you get called from the extras board!

Vincent, I love Texas man, we lived there for three months when I was 4 yrs old. I'm hoping to either live in Greenville, SC, or Texas after I graduate college in at least 7 years.

Well, that Packers game was a doozie. the idgits kicked to DEVIN HESTER and paid for it. if we didn't do that I'd have put money on our defense holding them to a field goal or forcing a punt. And then that 15 yard penalty Zombo got that negated the int and gave the ball back to the bears...if he had moved his helmet over like 6 inches that's a clean hit and it's Packers ball. Oh well, we'll see them in Lambeau later this year.

 Flo, bucket of Beer please.

Pretty much down in the dumps today, the reality of the new house payment is really starting to sink in. There is no hobby or home improvement budget left.  Good chances I am going to have to drop cable in a few weeks, so if you don't see me at the dinner you will know why.

All so sounds like the Computer Hard Drive is Dying. Guess it has a right, when I built this thing Pentium 2.4 was the fastest possessor you could buy. Hard drive is screaming like a cat being choked when it first starts up.

Vincent Sure looking forward to see a working RSD 15! Big Smile I would not thought any where still in services. But, whit there still being working BL 2 on the East Coast (Maryland something) why not a RSD 15. For now my Blue Line RSD 15 is the second main engine on my A line. Great slow speed with a Digitrax N scale decoder with BMF and pulls pretty darn good as well.

Best sounding Diesel I have, other ones get on my nerves.

Robby: Those cars I mentioned earlier. the Yard crews marshalled 9 boxcars and 4 hoppers so far out of the yard for your painting session if you still wish to get ahold of them.

Evenin' folks!

Flo, just a decaf for me.  I'll go relax in the back booth for a while.

Ken....  I would see about getting THAT hard drive backed up pronto.  Hate to see you lose everything on it.  At least THAT way you would have the info for the next one, even if you can't get it right now.

It has been a nice Fall day here in the Finger Lakes.  This morning the high was supposed to reach 72°F.  It did, and kept on going all the way up to 77°F.  I picked a mess of green beans from the garden and a huge head of cauliflower! Gave a large bag of Broccoli to one of the neighbors along with a couple green peppers.  I will freeze the cauliflower sometime in the next couple of days as I already have half a head in the fridge and 2 more growing on the garden.......

Did get down to the trains for a while.  I glued the plywood into the frame:

and tonight put a coat of Urethane Varnish on the frame itself.

Tomorrow I will go over it with some 000 steel wool and give it a final coat of varnish.

Hope you all are having a great day!

Hey guys, nothing new from me, just a diet dew. Thanks.

Been working on a big English 3 research paper, and is my one teacher a real witch. Hate to talk bad about people, but she is a real work of art. We had to do 20 quotes or something for our paper and that took me the whole period to finish up. Nice thing was I was smart and brought my flash drive with some music and some ear buds. Smarter than a friend of mine who got onto Facebook and got busted right off the bat. Embarrassed Me, I didn't do nothing, just sit back and watch the show. He's now got a bad rap going with the English teachers. The one guy is cool, but the woman is something else. Better get going, I think Flo's got her frying pan.

If you can read this... thank a teacher. If you are reading this in english... thank a veteran

Gooooooooood evening diners!

Sorry I haven't been around for a while. I was away this past weekend, but I came home to a new computer, so hopefully, I'll be here everyday!

Last week was the college fair. Very overwhelming. Here's the colleges that I like:
-Northeastern
-College of New Jersey
-Catholic
-Clarkson
-Lehigh
-Lafayette
-Vermont

I'm also looking at New Haven, Princeton, and Fairfield. New Haven will probably be my "easy school" (even though I like it anyway so far), and Princeton will be my long shot, just for a gauge. Fairfield wasn't there, but I have a lot of family that went there and liked it.
My cousins live in Connecticut, so we'll probably make a trip up there and check out New Haven and Fairfield. My mom went to TCNJ, and her homecoming is this Saturday, so I'll be looking while I'm there. Still got over a year, but it's getting time to get serious...

On a MRRing related note, the PL42 is coming along relatively well. I messed up several of the tri-color stripes, and there are no extras, so I'll have to get another decal set before they are discontinued at the end of October. The left side and both ends are almost complete, but the right side hasn't even been started. I'll do as much as I can until I get the second set.
Here is what it looks like as of last night (I've added some more white striping since then):

Well, I've gotta go, but hopefully I'll make it back in here later tonight. If not, then I'll talk to you guys tomorrow!

Hey guys

Managed to finish up countersinking the screws on one of my C425's frames.

Ken, It's a tourist Railroad in Austin, TX. $30 gets you a ticket in a PRR P70 coach for a 4 hour train ride. Then you get to spend 2 hours in Burnet, and there is a re-creation of a wild west gunfight. Worth it just for the ALCO, IMO

Also some videos:

After that I hit a shop over there and picked up 8 40' trailers, a PFE 85' flat, 2 SP 50' PC&F boxes, and a BN FMC covered hopper. All Athearn for $80.

And that was only saturday. Sunday I went to the NHRA finals at the Texas motorplex (in Ennis). Had a blast there too (haven't uploaded pics yet). On the way back, I had breakfast with some friends from when I used to live in San Antonio. Got to do a bit of drive-by railfanning (one of the highways parrallels the UP main for about 25 miles). Saw some intresting RR equipment between here and there. 2 ex-SP GP60s still in red and grey, a CNW AC44CW, a patched ex-UP GP38 (couldn't tell if it was an AC, -2, or straight). Also saw some kind of weird boxcar at a goodyear plant in Louisana. Looked like a 50' thrall bulkhead (like the MDC 60' version) with a roof. Guess it's for rubber.

So yeah, awesome. ;D ;D

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Good Evening Diners!

A very nice day here with sun and temps in the low '60s which is above normal. We've had a lot of wind so quite a few trees are bare of leaves including the old elm beside our house.

Not a lot new here, just work and visiting Mum at the hospital every night.  Luckily it is just a mile or so from our house which makes that whole process a lot easier.

Ken, sorry to hear about your banker/house problems. You'd think that banks would relax a little to help over rough patches so that they continue to get a payment and don't wind up with the asset they have as security but unfortunately it doesn't work that way. I work in finance(not a bank!) and banks base their interest rates and loan repayments on their assessment of risk. If they think risk is high up goes the interest rate and down comes the amortization.

If banks ran hospitals they wouldn't give blood tranfusions to anyone who might be at risk of dying as it might be 'wasted' and could otherwise go to someone with only a minor problem. Oops, I think I see that soap box sliding out.

Think I'll go downstairs and run that Hudson for a while, at high speed.

Hello everybody ...

I've been a busy with non-model-railroad stuff last couple of days.

I noticed several of you took time to comment on my WPF picture. Your remarks are very sincerely appreciated!

Happy Model Railraoding!

 Mourning Madison IN

Flo, I take a English Muffin with cream cheeses and a Diet Dew if you please.

Ray The hard drive has been making racket on and off now for a year. Last night it was real bad, today it seems normal. Some time ago I started backing up files on my seldom used lap top. Plus I have a 4 gig thumb drive as well. When it dies, hard part will be finding the soft ware CD's so I can start the new one up.

North East and Charlie If or when the computer dies it will not be a $ hardship. I all ready have a newer computer that I have never hooked up. My wife's cousin sent to us a few years ago when they got a better one. Far as the Bank they called twice yesterday but hang up before we can get to the phone. I call them back and I get voices mail.

Vincent Thanks for the pictures and Video's. I was shocked and disappointed on how quite the RSD 15 was at idle. I think mine is louder at idle.Big Smile Wish you had gotten a video of it moving from the out side. I still enjoyed the video's and shoots you got of the engine.

See you all for lunch, Ken

Good Morning,

It was too damp out last night to work on the backdrops L. Been cold enough out that I had to bring all the house plants back inside for the winter.  Tonight is the Euclid MRR Club work group and Friday is the NMRA Div 5 meeting.  Saturday and Sunday is the train show at the Berea Fairgrounds.  Well I’m on the 20th floor ready to get to work and we are on emergency generator as most of the town is out of power.  Why?  No clue the rain stopped last night.  This winter I’m building two 1:1 scale railroad bridges and three 1:1 scale street lift bridges.  One of the railroad bridges might be interesting; due to the span and the elevation it may be a 2010 model center swing bridge.

Good morning! Coffee and a sweet roll please.

I get to work all day on Mom's house today. At least so far. I hope to get a good amount of stuff done.

Ken- Sorry about the financial woes. Banks anymore aren't there to help the guy/gal who needs it. Kinda like SS disability.

I don't know how much trouble you guys that are on it had getting it, but most that I know who really need it had such a hard time getting it or could not get it at all, while those who don't need it seem to get it no problem. One guy, 24, has partial, partial mind you, loss of sight in one eye. You guessed it. Gets disability. Lucky guy doesn't have to work except for odd jobs and has more money than I do.

You know I just thought of something. I don't get to work on my trainset and it's really getting me down. That's a mental issue correct? I think I'll apply....... Nah, on second thought that would put me in the group that wrongly gives those who actually need it a bad name.

Ya'll have a Great Day now ya hear!!!!

EDIT: Welp, just remembered. I've gotta open the restaurant today at 4. So much for all day on the project. Should only take about an hour but it still blows things to a point. Oh well, I'm used to it.
