 Good foggy morning.

Well Jessica is home sick today.   Hopefully I don't catch it.    I guess I will spend the day in the basement.

Hope everybody has a good morning.

Good morning All,

60F with sunshine for now and more rain coming tomorrow. Battling roof leaks at the shop - new roof an all but it's flat and there you have it. Oh and the geniuses that put the roof on built a berm all around the perimeter to trap water on the roof and I'm sure THAT helps enormously.

Museum last night putting more N track down another couple of sessions and I should have the two new loops done and ready for testing. I'm doing the track solo as there are enough other jobs that the crew is streched thin and truth be know it's easier this way.

It pains me to hear of people still being laid off and the continuing nonsense with bank loans and the like. I don't see any real improvement happening until the powers that be fix some of the things they've done that have genererated jobs everywhere but here. No Zoe, I don't want the soapbox, no I don't want to violate the parameters we have established here, just wanted to state a fact.

Time to get out in the shop and get on with it. See y'all later, J.R.

Flo, just a dew to go.

Yes dealing with the Banks can be a pain. Getting hold of a live person that can help is all most impossible!

What I hope is I can get a part time job making $200.00 or a little less. Why less you ask? If I make $200.00 or less they don't take anything off my unemployment. Now a real full time job would be great, I am starting to get a little sicking hanging around the house.

Did have a ball this mourning, ran the trains for a few hours. Broke down a 45 car coal train and used the SW 8 to get all the cars back up into the mine. Darn good little switcher, could push 8 coal cars at a time up the 2% grade on a 18 inch turn. All so took some cars off the Hopper Train and added them to this evening local freight to Kingsdown. Took a few empty hoppers to the Grain CO OP as well.

Well, time to do the dishes for Sue.

Afternoon everyone!

Zoe I'll just have a RBF to tide me over til dinner.

Ken, THAT is one of the big reasons I like my Credit Union.  They will usually let you just pay the interest on a loan when finances won't allow a person to make full payments.  And they have real living sentient Human Beings to chat with face to face!!!Thumbs Up  Of course they also will extend the laon accordingly.  But I know of several people for whom it has saved their house!  I won't do business with a commercial bank anymore!!!!  Oops!  I see a SoapBox sliding over this way......

Anybody else have trouble getting into the site this morning?  I could get to the Kalmbach main page, but no matter what route I tried it would not let me into the forum...???  After lunch I decided to repair permissions on the G5 Mac and while it was soing its thing, mow some of the lawn (Yep! D@m% thing is high again).  When I just came back in I tried again and it let me on...  I don't know.

I have a long list of "other" stuff I have to get done this afternoon, so...

Later!

I’m a member of the Navy Federal Credit Union, love it. I still use a local bank for everyday transactions, however the CU is my savings and if I need a loan I can sit and chat with a real live person that speaks English!

Hello, everyone. Florida has been hit by a tropical system for the first time this season, today (The rain has started on my neck of the woods now) I'll just take a cheeseburger, fries, and a milkshake.

Don't get too close to me. Everyone in my family has been giving each other the same illness since last weekend.

Not mutch happening on the hobby front. Other than some wethering, I got nothing to do.

I'm hoping that one of the bottles of Children's Chewable Motrin runs out soon. I saw it on the Fine Sacale Modeler forum (sister magazine to MRR) where someone scratch-built a boioler from a medicine bottle for a 1/35 scale diorama, and I'm hoping to replicate that project in HO scale for an abandoned factory I have been working on for the past year or two. (I doubt it'll be finished. I keep adding little details to it as I come across them)

Man, I can't wait for my next trip to the hobby shop....

 Afternoon folks!

Flo, I take a Toasted Ham and Cheese with ever thing  on it but Mayo, tender of Coal (pun) Slaw and a Diet Dew in a Monon Mug.

Been doing some much need Kitchen Cleaning today. After I got done with the dishes I took the ceiling fan apart and cleaned it in the sink. It was a mess. Then I went after the refrigerator and the range. Used 409 and it worked pretty good, that and some elbow grease, something my wife seems to lack.

Think I am going get some rails down, going to make some run around sidings for the passenger train station.

Not sure if I will make it by for dinner yet.

Goooooooooooooooooooooooooood Afternoon, cup of coffee please and thank-you.

Banks. We do business with a pair of credit unions, never had any trouble with them. The mortgage (or 30-year rent-to-own program) is with Wells Fargo. It originated with one of the credit unions, they then sold it to Washington Mutual, who then sold it to Wells. I'm not thrilled about THAT... But, we're still here...uh, as long as we send 'em the fixed-rate every month, THAT-is. The other credit union has extended a loan multiple times...it's almost scary how willing they are to give-out bucks. Don't get me wrong, it has gotten us out of a number of jams. Bottom line though, I think they LIKE having us "on the hook."

No RR time today, been w**king on content for THAT Editor. I did manage to order some decals direct from Microscale a day or two ago, so have THAT to look forward to. I might eventually get a repair/replacement part from Intermountain. Several months ago, a grain hopper was knocked off the shelf (by a flying hammer...don't ask). The only damage sustained was the demise of one of their older multi-piece trucks, and the breaking of a B-end ladder. Of course, the busted-off ladder chunk has yet to surface. So, I e-mailed Intermountain about the possibility of obtaining a replacement part. They responded within a day or two...then nothing. A few months later, they asked for more details, so I sent 'em a pic of the damage. Then...nothing. Got another e-mail a day or two ago apologizing for the delay and asking for my address. We'll see what happens next. I suppose I could always put an HO sized Bad Order tag on the car and run it THAT way...have it moving to the RIP track at Beverly or something. I haven't quite wrapped my brain around how to fabricate the missing section, otherwise I'd just go THAT route if the part can't be had. Just watch, after the new piece arrives and is "cut-in," the busted off chunk will surface...

Welp, coffee's down, time to get back at it. Gotta write-up captions and game summary from last night's high school volleyball. Something along the lines of the Clippers skinning the 'Cats (Benton Community Bobcats)... THAT Editor wouldn't let me use "Clippers neuter 'Cats" last year after a massive victory...Whistling Euthanize and 'put down' weren't allowed either...

THANKS to those who commented on the award-winning fluke shot. I've always kinda shrugged it off since it was a fluke. I look at shots where I tried to use skill, experience, etc.; and had 'em not turn out. Then I look at the jump and shoot shot THAT won. We have the long night of picking contest submissions coming up in the next week or two... Now, I'm even less sure what to submit than I was last year (1st time)!!!!

Have a good, SAFE rest of the day, and an even better evening.

Morgan, glad to hear!

Looks like a lot of folks are starting to get sick. As for me that bug i thought I had was just being super over tired. I like the weather change though, it feels so good. haven't seen the sun much though, but then that's what heats the air up, so.....

Ken, sounds like a fun time running trains!

well, I have a spanish test friday. I'll be trying for a 100, but I'll be happy to pass it.

Enjoy it whist you can gentlemen - after is life where you're tested every day. A coffee and a blueberry doughnut please.

Long day in the shop even considering it was a late start. Now for some gov't w..k - back on the CFOs' Ram 50 brakes. Finally got the calipers off and the rebuilts look correct (not messing with totally rusted calipers, nope not me) so with luck back on they go. Broken wheel stud was straight forward - knock out,  press in new with green loctite, reassemble rotor to hub and reinstall with bearings and new split pin. One thing at a time and all steps closer to starting that layout again.  Here's that coffee and I'm gone.    CUL, J.R.

Hey guys

Seems kind quiet here today

North East rail modeler, on your end of Florida anyways. This end is actually cool and dry.

Ken, it's a bit louder than the video shows. the camera tended to focus more on the wind noise than anything. The shutters opening and closing were louder than I though

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

You are right about that, Packer.

Although, Florida has dodged some big bullets this season. If it hadn't have been for that pressure cell or whatever that was over us, my family would have had to literally head for the hills in Georgia for Earl. (I lost track of how many hurricanes we've tracked, as well as the number of close calls and lucky breaks)

Anywhoo, the rain has let up now, and I have the empty bottle of Motrin for my boioler project. I'll probably draw up the plans tomorrow, and probably on Friday afternoon, I'll get started on it.

Yes, I'll post photos as it progresses

Thanks, I tend to be a bit over-dramatic with my predictions of how I'll do on a test or something, so we'll see how it goes.

Well, set a new personal best for myself for continuous time spent running; ran for 25 mins. 29 seconds tonight, for the entire second half of that I was chanting "Praise You Jesus" in rhythm with my running (not trying to get into religion here, just stating a fact).

Well, I'm gonna sleep good tonight, have a good one y'all!

Hello everyone.

Vincent ... I looked at your Texas trip pictures. It looks like fun.

Regarding Allegators. I recall Alco made them to compete with SD24's. Santa Fe's idea was to order them with low noses for better visability. They did likewise for SD24's.

Ken ... Sounds like you are in a rough period. I hope everything works out soon.

Everybody .... Any thoughts on where to move the diner in October. I suggest Ray host it at his museum in Upstate New York. The fall colors should be nice. Perhaps, Duke  could loan his favorite Berkshire to haul the diner there.

Happy Model Railroading!

Mourning Flo, Am I the first customer of the day again?

I will take 3 sunny side up, 3 strips of bacon, English Muffin and a Diet Dew please.

Need to do something about my sleep cycle, it is getting out of hand. I was up at 3:30 AM this mourning. I think I am sleeping well, all so having a lot of pleasant dreams.

Really didn't much done on the Layout last night. Solder together a couple of turnouts and that was it.

Garry and others Thanks for the kind words and thoughts. Yes thinks are going to be tight till i start working. But, I am still better off than many and way better off than when I was working at Mattress Giant.

I might lay some more tile in the hallway. Doing a 36" X 48" section should take with cutting out the carpet a Hour. So, with my luck 3 hours!

Did install a light over the Kitchen sink the other day, one of the reason's I wanted to install the Mill Work, to hide the light. That is the section of the cabinets that I painted with the POS White paint. Sue took a good look at the area I painted yesterday and did nothing but complain about how cheap it looks? She does not like the high gloss paint. Sure glad I did not get more painted.

Good Morning All,

64F and just bucketing down rain here this morning. Runoff flowing over the curbs and down the driveway at the bottom of our hill. Probably the ity needs to clean out the storm drains again as we had water backed up all down our street. Must be left over from our friends in Florida. Still soaked from the walk from the house to the car and from the car into the shop - all of about 50ft total.

Still no Jeff - hope he's doing ok - the fatigue thing was worrysome.

I'll go and pick up my coffee at the counter and see you all later.  J.R.

Mornin' everyone!  (takes off slicker and boots.)

Zoe I'll have a hearty bowl of oatmeal with brown sugar this wet chilly morning.  Oh!  And lots of dark raost coffee in a R&GV RR Mug if you please.

Well we got RG&E 45 tonner 1948 fired up and ready to complete the switching, but she isn't legal to move out onto the LA&L trackage, so Duke will have to get the dinner over to us with one of his Berks!  You can bet the railfans in the RR Hysterical Society will be out in force to see the move!  Track 4 is cleared for the diner, and 1948 can do final spotting for us.

Yep, there are several among the missing.  Ulrich hasn't been in for a couple of days either.  Hopefully Jeff is just having some internet access problems.  I sure do miss Tom White's posts here!  Hope it wasn't my singing that drove him away.   And Fergie?  Do hope he is alright and staying safe.

Today is....... ah..... WET!  Yep, today is wet here in the Finger Lakes.  We are right on the edge of the storm that has the whole Eastern Coast of the US getting soaked.  We could get anywhere from 1" to 2" from it to 2" to 5" from it.  Depends on who you read.  Like the rest of the East, we are under a Flood Watch.  Likelyhood of anything really bad here is low.  My prayers for all of you where conditions are far worse!

Later!

It's another chilly and rainy day here in Pittsburgh. Got my car back from the bodyshop this morning. They did a great job and I'm really pleased with the results. Now all's right with the world once again.

Okay Ray, we will leave it up to you for the local wine list when the diner arrives. But if you could find it in your heart to get a couple of bottles of Riesling from Prejean's Winery stocked, it will be greatly appreciated. It always goes so good with anything on my plate.

I think we will drive up to the train show in Berea, Ohio this Saturday. It's been a couple of years since I've been there. It's about a 2 hour drive from here, so that's not too bad. And the weather is suppose to be nice.
